Report:
On February 10, 2026, shortly before 11:00 a.m., Troop F received a request to activate ASP SWAT regarding a barricaded
suspect in a rural area of East Ouachita County, Arkansas. Chief Deputy Larry McMahan relayed to Captain Neill that deputies
had executed a search warrant at 465 Ouachita 77. Two suspects were taken into custody immediately upon entry and were
separated.
During an inventory of the residence for stolen weapons and other items, the two suspects were interviewed regarding a third
individual, David Davenport. Mr. Davenport, a convicted felon with an active warrant, was not located during the initial entry.
During these interviews, officers learned that Mr. Davenport had immediately armed himself with a "long weapon" (described as
an AR-style firearm with a drum magazine) and a handgun before fleeing into the attic crawlspace. Chief Deputy McMahan
advised Captain Neill that they were in the process of securing an arrest warrant for Mr. Davenport for Felon in Possession of a
Firearm. This information was relayed to Major Hydron, and ASP SWAT was activated.
Captain Neill directed me to the scene to assess the situation and advised Troopers Smeltzer, Reed, Holmes, Plyler, and Nash
to respond to the callout. Upon my arrival, I reported to Captain Neill that deputies were positioned next to the residence and
inside the house where Mr. Davenport had retreated. Captain Neill instructed me to have the deputies egress and establish a
perimeter to provide officers with hard cover.
Upon his arrival, Captain Neill assessed the scene and interviewed one of the suspects, Mr. Davenport’s girlfriend. She stated
they had been smoking methamphetamine when deputies arrived. She confirmed that when deputies entered the home, Mr.
Davenport grabbed a “long gun with a big magazine” and retreated into the attic through a hole in the master bedroom closet.
She further stated that Mr. Davenport claimed he "would not be taken alive."
Prior to SWAT’s arrival, Troopers Nash and Holmes, assisted by three Arkansas Game and Fish wardens, covered the rear of
the residence. Trooper Reed, Trooper Smeltzer, Corporal Plyler, and I covered the front. Captain Neill and two AHP officers
covered the north end of the residence from County Road 77. Upon Sergeant Staley’s arrival, Captain Neill briefed him on the
situation and advised that ASP had assumed control of the scene.
While SWAT members were still arriving, Mr. Davenport exited the rear of the residence. Trooper Holmes confronted him and
ordered him to show his hands; Mr. Davenport complied. Trooper Holmes relayed that the suspect was not visibly armed.
Thereafter, Mr. Davenport fled on foot and reached a nearby motorcycle, that the Sheriff’s Office had previously started but had
not removed the keys from; he then used the motorcycle to flee the scene.
At approximately 12:59 p.m., I observed Mr. Davenport fleeing around the front of the residence and into an open field. I
pursued him across the field, through a wooded area, and onto a rural gravel road. Mr. Davenport crossed Ouachita 77 and
proceeded onto Ouachita 205, where he failed to negotiate a turn and crashed the motorcycle. I confronted Mr. Davenport at
gunpoint, at which time he repeatedly asked me to “kill him.” After observing that he did not possess a firearm, I transitioned to
my Taser and deployed it. The initial deployment was successful; however, thick foliage severed a Taser wire. Mr. Davenport
regained his footing and fled into the woods.
Officers were instructed to hold the perimeter and await a K9 team. A lengthy search was conducted near the Ouachita River
and other known areas of interest. Mr. Davenport was not located, and the search concluded at approximately 8:00 p.m.
Additional warrants will be obtained for ASP-related charges.
