Child abuse/neglect arrests

When a 6-year-old girl showed up at school yesterday with bruises still visible on her face, deputies responded for an investigation. They determined the girl had experienced physical abuse that the adult defendants tried to cover up by keeping her out of school for 2 days. The victim was also very hungry and said she doesn't get much to eat. Jeffrey Morales, 29, is charged with child abuse. Melissa Husk, 35, is charged with child neglect for being aware of the abuse and choosing to hide it rather than intervene or report it to anyone. While talking to deputies, the 6-year-old victim drew a beautiful picture for Sgt. Crofutt that she'll be keeping in her patrol car.
