An Arkansas State Police traffic stop in Blytheville quickly developed into a vehicle pursuit after Trooper Carter Lazenby attempted to stop a black 2016 Ford Fusion. According to the official incident report, Trooper Lazenby had confirmed that the driver had active felony warrants through the Blytheville Police Department before initiating the traffic stop. The Ford Fusion then allegedly accelerated away and fled eastbound on East Moultrie Drive near 1st Street. The report states that the Fusion continued past Ruddle Road, disregarded a posted stop sign, and passed multiple vehicles despite heavy traffic conditions. With the pursuit continuing through Blytheville, Trooper Lazenby moved into position for a Tactical Vehicle Intervention. During the first TVI attempt, the report says the Fusion abruptly braked, resulting in contact between the vehicles and damage to the passenger side of the patrol unit.
