Description On September 25, 2026, Pope County 911 received multiple calls regarding an aggressive driver traveling westbound on Interstate 40 near the 99-mile marker. Callers reported that a silver Ford Taurus was attempting to force other motorists off the roadway and had struck the rear of another vehicle. Sgt. Brenda Smith of the Arkansas State Police was stationary near the 90-mile marker when she observed the suspect vehicle traveling in the right lane and following another vehicle too closely. When she initiated a traffic stop near the 89-mile marker, the driver moved into the left lane instead of stopping and then rapidly changed lanes again. The pursuit continued with the suspect driving on the shoulder before accelerating to more than 100 MPH and swerving around other motorists. Near the 88 exit, the vehicle moved in front of an 18-wheeler and began to fishtail and slide sideways on the exit ramp. The incident continued into Pottsville, where another officer became involved in the pursuit. The report documents a subsequent search involving multiple law enforcement agencies and additional investigative activity.
