Driver flees due to FELONY WARRANT - Arkansas State Police PIT Maneuver rolls truck #pursuit #pit
Description
Trooper's Narrative: On Monday September 14th, 2026, at approximately 4:00 P.M., I Trooper Shackleford attempted to stop a gold Mazda B2300 pickup bearing Arkansas license plate number 539ZDW at the U.S. 71 Abbott Loop intersection. The vehicle's registration had been expired since August of 2025. The suspect vehicle continued east on Abbott Loop at a high rate of speed, which is when I advised dispatch that I had a vehicle failing to yield. The suspect vehicle continued through the Abbott Loop-Rock Island Road intersection without coming to a stop, which is when I advised dispatch that I was actively pursuing the vehicle. Emergency lights and sirens were both activated during this encounter. The suspect's vehicle reached up to 50 miles per hour on the dirt road portion of Rock Island Road, losing traction on the rear tires multiple times while attempting to evade. At approximately 4:02 P.M., I successfully conducted a Tactical Vehicle Intervention on the driver's side of the suspect vehicle, traveling approximately 46 miles per hour. The suspect vehicle rolled onto its top side, and I ordered the suspect and passenger out of the suspect vehicle and placed them both in handcuffs. The suspect and driver of the vehicle was identified as Jay McDaniel. McDaniel had a confirmed felony warrant out of Scott County for residential burglary. When placing Mr. McDaniel into custody, he uttered multiple times that he was sorry and ran because of the felony warrant out of Scott County. After McDaniel was told his Miranda Rights, he advised the same statement as the utterance before, and that his girlfriend and passenger, Tashina Helton, had told him to stop multiple times. Helton had also advised me immediately after the T.V.I that she had told McDaniel to stop multiple times. Helton was taken to Mercy Hospital in Waldron for a minor injury, and has since been released. McDaniel refused medical treatment and was taken to Scott County Detention Center. The suspect vehicle was towed by Affordable Wrecker Service. McDaniel was served the felony warrant out of Scott County, and charged with Fleeing Vehicle or Conveyance, Reckless Driving 1st-Physical Injury, False Imprisonment-1st Degree, Expired Tags and No Driver's License.
