Trooper's Report:
On July 22, 2023, at approximately 7:49 P.M., West Memphis Officers advised they were attempting to stop a black Chevrolet
Equinox on Southland Drive. The driver refused to stop, and a vehicle pursuit ensued. The black Equinox was traveling east on
Southland Drive at speeds above 100 miles per hour in a 45-mile-per-hour zone. Traffic conditions were heavy, but the driver
showed no regard for other motorists on the roadway.
Trooper Donnie Cheers and I were sitting in the parking lot of a private business on Martin Luther King Jr Drive, close to the
pursuit, and responded to assist. Trooper Cheers pulled his patrol car to the right shoulder of the road, and I pulled into the left
lane, attempting to block the black Equinox from striking other motorists and causing an accident.
The black Equinox traveled east on Southland Drive and turned right onto MLK Drive. The black Equinox continued to drive
recklessly as it approached the entrance ramp to Interstate 40. The black Equinox turned left in front of me onto the entrance
ramp to Interstate 40. At approximately 7:50 P.M., I took over the primary pursuit position and immediately positioned my patrol
unit to perform a Tactical Vehicle Intervention to end the pursuit before it entered Interstate 40. At approximately 7:51 P.M., I
used the left front portion of my TVI bumper to contact the right rear bumper area on the black Equinox. This contact caused
the black Equinox to rotate clockwise 360 degrees and stop on the shoulder of the roadway. The black Equinox slowly rolled
down the grassy shoulder embankment, stopping in the grass at the bottom of the embankment.
The driver of the black Equinox was taken into custody without further incident.
The driver, identified as DAMARIOUS L
SCHOFIELD was transported to the Crittenden County Detention Center and charged with the following:
Driving on REVOLKED LICENSE, FAIL TO STOP AT STOP SIGN, RECKLESS DRIVING, NO SEAT BELT, FLEEING IN A
VEHICLE, DWI 2nd.
