Title
How Portland Police Staffing Works
Description
The Portland Police Bureau often receives questions about staffing and how many officers are available to respond to 911 calls.
As of the summer of 2026, PPB has 808 sworn members. That number includes officers serving in specialized units, detectives, supervisors, command staff, officers in training, and others performing essential public safety roles throughout the Bureau.
This video explains how police staffing is structured and why the total number of sworn members is different from the number of patrol officers available to respond to calls for service at any given time.
