Cant Escape the Arkansas State Police (HE GAVE UP!) - Suspect forced to crawl to patrol car #pursuit
Description
Trooper's Report:
On August 26, 2023, around 10:23 P.M., I was stationary on Interstate 40 westbound near the 282-mile marker. I observed a
car approaching me from behind. I activated my rear radar and clocked a gray Dodge Charger traveling at a high rate of speed.
I had a positive reading of 96 mph in a posted 65 mph zone. As the vehicle passed me, I activated my blue lights and sirens.
The operator of the sedan showed no indications of attempting to pull to the shoulder, in fact revving the engine.
As the suspect went by the Martin Luther King exit, he turned his lights off and began to drive recklessly, weaving in and out of
traffic, with no regard for motorists traveling in the area. As the pursuit continued west, I kept a visual on the fleeing vehicle.
While nearing Marion, Arkansas, the suspect took exit 10, traveled down the East Interstate 55 Access Road and ran a traffic
light at Highway 64 & Military Road.
After running the traffic light, the suspect drove down the West Interstate 55 Access Road. As I caught up to him, he realized
there was no escaping apprehension and he surrendered. I placed handcuffs on him and stood him up against my car.
The driver was identified as Rontravis Hester from West Memphis, Arkansas. He was transported to the Crittenden County Jail
and charged with the following: Speeding, Careless and prohibited, Fleeing in a vehicle, and No lights at night.
