Title
High Speed pursuit ends when suspects RUN ACROSS BUSY INTERSTATE - female is hit by tractor-trailer
Description
On Monday, November 1, 2022, I, Corporal Hubbard, was parked on the shoulder of Interstate 40 westbound, monitoring traffic
around the 282-mile marker. I observed a passenger car coming up from behind me at a high rate of speed, causing me to
activate my rear radar. I received a reading of 90 miles per hour in a 65-mile-per-hour zone.
I pulled into the roadway, activated my emergency lights and siren, and attempted to catch up to the vehicle. When I caught up
with the suspect's vehicle, instead of him pulling to the shoulder of the road, the suspect ignored the patrol unit and continued
westbound on the interstate. The suspect vehicle started an evasive maneuver by cutting across all three lanes of westbound
traffic and in-between vehicles reaching speeds of over 100 miles per hour.
I continued to pursue the suspect vehicle with my emergency lights and siren activated. The suspect exited the interstate taking
exit 279A, going westbound on the North Service Road. The suspect continued westbound on the North Service Road, driving
recklessly and 35 miles over the posted speed limit.
The suspect car began to slow and came to a stop in front of the USA Truck Lot. The suspect and his female passenger got out
of the vehicle and ran across to the westbound side of the interstate. The female passenger was struck by a tractor-trailer
while crossing the eastbound side of the interstate. The male suspect continued into an apartment complex on the south side of
the interstate. The suspect was apprehended and placed under arrest a short time later.
Crittenden Emergency Services transported the passenger to Regional Medical Health Center in Memphis, Tennessee, for
treatment.
The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the Crittenden County Detention center. The suspect was issued
citations for the following charges: Speeding, Reckless Driving, Fleeing by vehicle, Suspended DL, and a warrant of Parole
Violation.
