Killer Mom Blames Her 4-Year-Old Daughter for Her Death — No Idea What's in the Bathroom Sink
Description
A 4-year-old girl is found unresponsive inside a bathtub. Her mother says she simply stopped breathing — but the injuries doctors discover tell a very different story.
This true crime documentary examines the police interrogation of Britney Mayes following the death of her 4-year-old daughter, Averylee “Avery” Hobbs, in Cincinnati, Ohio.
After Avery was rushed to the hospital, medical staff discovered serious injuries that raised immediate concerns about what had happened inside the home. When the Hamilton County coroner later ruled Avery’s death a homicide caused by blunt-force trauma to the head, detectives began investigating the accounts given by the adults responsible for her care.
During questioning, Britney Mayes attempts to explain Avery’s injuries and what happened before she was found unresponsive. Detectives carefully challenge her timeline, examine inconsistencies in her account, and compare what she says against the physical and forensic evidence.
The investigation would ultimately lead to criminal charges against Britney Mayes and, years later, a guilty plea to aggravated murder. She was sentenced to life imprisonment with parole eligibility after serving 20 years.
This episode of Evidence Lab Interrogation includes police interrogation footage, the 911 call, investigative context, evidence surrounding the case, and the eventual legal outcome.
Watch the interrogation closely and follow the evidence as detectives work to determine what really happened to Avery.
