Man w/ dog steals U-Haul - Arkansas State Police pursuit ends in PIT Maneuver and crash into pole
Description
Note: The dog was ok and is resting at the Little Rock Animal Shelter. He may be up for adoption. If not, I'm sure there are plenty of other dogs that would love a nice home. Charges: -THEFT BY RECEIVING -FLEEING -RESISTING ARREST -CRIMINAL USE OF PROHIBITED WEAPONS - METAL KNUCKLES -RECKLESS DRIVING - 1ST -DRIVING ON SUSPENDED LICENSE -POSSESS INSTRUMENT OF CRIME Trooper's Report: On 07/30/2026 at approximately 07:43 AM, Troop A Dispatch stated Little Rock Police Department was in pursuit of a stolen U- Haul 10 foot box trailer traveling east on Interstate 30 near the 135-MM. I, Trooper David Calvert, observed the pursuit traveling east on Interstate 30 to Interstate 440 EB. I entered the pursuit on Interstate 440 EB near the 1-MM. The U-Haul was traveling approximately 75 miles per hour in the number two lane. Due to the size of the box trailer, and the traffic around, I was unable to see ahead of it to ensure it was safe to conduct a TVI. Trp. Ethan Hiland became the secondary unit and began to relay information to Dispatch. I attempted to move into the number three lane where I was cut off by the vehicle. He abruptly took the 3-MM exit, where I attempted to TVI on the exit ramp. I attempted a driver’s side TVI of the vehicle, it was initially successful, and he drove into the grass. Due to the weight of the vehicle, he was able to recover and continued driving on the exit ramp. The pursuit continued south on Bankhead Rd, where the driver was driving in the middle of the road. I attempted to push him off the roadway, but he was able to maneuver in front of my vehicle to make it ineffective. The pursuit continued south on Bankhead, the driver was traveling at speeds of approximately 60 miles per hour through a residential neighborhood. The driver drove eastbound on Frazier Pike, where I struck the vehicle once more on driver’s side toward the rear of the box with my passenger side push bumper. While the U-Haul was turning, it transitioned to the front of my bumper as I was pushing him off the roadway. The U-Haul recovered off the roadway and continued east through a yard and church parking lot. Upon entering the roadway, Trp. Hiland was able to conduct a TVI on the U-Haul Trailer. When the U-Haul stopped moving, we attempted a high risk take down of the vehicle. The suspect then accelerated away from our position. This ended when he rear-ended a power pole immobilizing the U-Haul. The driver, later identified as Jessie KELLER, refused commands to exit the vehicle. He was pinned in the vehicle by his left side on the driver's side door actively resisting commands. Keller was soon extracted from the vehicle and placed on the ground and further disobeyed lawful commands. In order to gain compliance, I struck KELLER once with my right fist on his left side and assisted LPRD into forcing him into handcuffs. KELLER was turned over to LRPD on the scene.
