Description On October 5, 2026, an Arkansas State Police trooper was monitoring traffic on U.S. Highway 82 in Columbia County when he observed a silver Mazda traveling with only its parking lights illuminated. The trooper activated his emergency lights and siren to initiate a traffic stop. According to the official report, the Mazda initially began pulling over but then accelerated back onto the highway, reaching approximately 83 MPH. The situation quickly became more dangerous as the vehicle reportedly passed another vehicle using the shoulder. The driver later crossed the centerline while attempting to pass traffic on a curved section of the highway, forcing the vehicle to return to its lane to avoid oncoming traffic. As the highway opened into five lanes, the trooper performed a Tactical Vehicle Intervention in an effort to stop the fleeing vehicle and reduce the danger to other motorists.
