Dumb Criminal Gets Caught Stealing And Trying To Kill Someone, Pretends He Is The Victim
Description
Watch this police interrogation with intense raw interrogation from the interrogation room as police conduct a full interrogation of a suspect. This raw interrogation footage captures every moment of the suspect interview, complete with deception detection techniques, and criminal psychology in true JCS style interrogation.
The Background
Victim: Melvin Swagerty, about 60, of Port Angeles. He was working a DoorDash route on the evening of October 19, 2025. He is also described as a Special Olympics athlete in the local community.
Defendants: Nicholas Well (about 30) and Rosario Lopez-Castro (about 29), a couple with seven children (ages reported as 6 months to 9 years). They were walking along U.S. Highway 101 near Deer Park Road in Clallam County with the children when Swagerty stopped.
Relationship to victim: None reported. They were strangers. Swagerty offered a ride because the family appeared stranded at night.
Apparent motive (as alleged by prosecutors): Taking Swagerty’s vehicle (a blue Lexus RX300) and fleeing. Charges include robbery and motor-vehicle theft, not a personal dispute with the victim.
Same-day context: Deputies had already contacted the couple earlier on October 19 (disturbance in Sequim; Well was booked and released after a reckless-driving stop in Port Angeles).
The Crime
Date/time: Sunday evening, October 19, 2025. 911 about 8:10 p.m. after witnesses saw a man come out of a vehicle on the 260 block of Carlsborg Road near Sequim.
Sequence (alleged): Swagerty picked up Well, Lopez-Castro, and the seven children on Highway 101. After they continued toward Carlsborg Road, an altercation occurred inside the car. Swagerty was stabbed multiple times (neck, face, head, chest, and other areas reported) and ended up on the roadway. The vehicle then left the scene with the children still inside.
Planning / coordination (as alleged): Prosecutors say this was a robbery of a Good Samaritan. In later interviews, Swagerty said he heard Lopez-Castro say words to the effect of “now, now, now” just before the stabbing. Investigators later alleged Lopez-Castro was complicit, not a bystander. These are allegations, not findings of a jury.
Aftermath at the scene: Bystanders helped until medics arrived. Swagerty was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, had emergency surgery, and was discharged about two nights later. He later said doctors revived him during surgery.
Flight: Well is alleged to have driven off in Swagerty’s Lexus. The car was found hours later in Kitsap County.
The Investigation
Arrest: About 4:57–5:00 a.m. on October 20, 2025, Kitsap County deputies found the stolen Lexus. Well was in the driver’s seat; Lopez-Castro was in the passenger seat; the seven children were in the vehicle. Both adults were described as passed out / unresponsive. Children were removed and placed in protective custody / CPS.
Physical evidence: Blood in the driver’s-seat area. A bloody knife recovered from Well’s pocket. Vehicle confirmed stolen and registered to Swagerty. Children were not properly restrained (no car seats / unsafe seating reported).
Witnesses: People at Carlsborg Road saw a fight inside the car and a man fall or come out the driver’s side as the vehicle fled. Swagerty initially could say little but told responders he had offered a ride to a family with many children.
Suspects’ early legal posture: First booked in Kitsap County on possession of a stolen vehicle and reckless endangerment – domestic violence (tied to the children in the car). Clallam County then obtained warrants for attempted second-degree murder, first-degree robbery, and theft of a motor vehicle, with deadly-weapon and Good Samaritan aggravators.
Conviction and Sentencing
Charges (Clallam County, as reported): Attempted murder in the second degree; robbery in the first degree; theft of a motor vehicle; deadly-weapon enhancement; Good Samaritan aggravator. Separate Kitsap charges for stolen vehicle and reckless endangerment.
Trial status: A six-day trial originally set for mid-January 2026 was continued in December 2025. On January 16, 2026, defense attorneys asked to reset again (expert reports and other trial conflicts). Judge Simon Barnhart set a further reset hearing for February 27, 2026. Both defendants were held on $750,000 bond in Clallam County Jail as of that reporting.
Verdicts and sentences: Not publicly reported as of August 2026. Do not state that either defendant has been convicted or sentenced unless a later official record is confirmed.
