Title
Nissan Altima race Arkansas State Police Trooper to Memphis, TN at 100+ MPH - HIGH SPEED PURSUIT
Description
Report: On August 6, 2025, at approximately 11:22 PM, I, Trooper First Class Garrett Byrd, was stationary in the gore area of Interstate 40 eastbound at the 280-mile marker, observing eastbound traffic and traffic entering the interstate from Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive. I observed a silver Nissan Altima enter the interstate and attempted to confirm the vehicle registration on my in-car computer and received a return on a different vehicle. I began to travel eastbound to catch up to the Altima to double check the information. As I caught up to the Altima, at about the 282-mile marker, I observed it was driving erratically, passing other vehicles at speeds between 90 to 100 miles per hour and failing to maintain a single lane. I activated my lights to initiate a traffic stop on the Altima and the driver accelerated to triple digit speeds and turned off the vehicle’s lights. The driver fled recklessly as the pursuit passed a Trooper’s traffic stop and other traffic at the 283-mile marker. I notified dispatch of the pursuit and Trooper First Class Gunner Fultz became the secondary unit as the pursuit approached the Tennessee state line at the 284-mile marker. Due to the recklessness of the driver and safety concerns, I was unable to forcibly stop the Altima. The driver continued to drive recklessly to the 284-mile marker, and I terminated the pursuit at the state line. As I slowed to normal speeds and deactivated my emergency signals, the driver continued to drive recklessly into Tennessee. The Altima displayed Arkansas license plate AAR54Y, which returns expired to a Ford Fusion. I have stopped the vehicle in the past and the driver was an individual known to flee from law enforcement.
