Title
Fleeing is a Felony
Description
As a part of the Milwaukee Police Department's Keep MKE's Streets Safe initiative, MPD will feature a driver who has been arrested, charged, convicted, and sentenced for reckless driving and/or fleeing from Milwaukee Police. This week we are featuring Rayshon N. Wheaton Jr. On August 18, 2018, MPD officers saw a car matching the description of a stolen vehicle that was taken in a carjacking. They observed this vehicle drive near the 1700 block of West Galena Street. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but Wheaton refused to pull over and led officers in a vehicle pursuit. During the pursuit, Wheaton reached speeds of 80 miles per hour and disregarded multiple traffic laws. He lost control of the car, drove onto a sidewalk and crashed near the 2600 block of West Highland Avenue. Wheaton then exited the vehicle and ran from officers avoiding apprehension. On March 15, 2019, Wheaton was apprehended by members of the Milwaukee Police department. On June 18, 2019, Wheaton was criminally charged by the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office for Attempting to Flee or Elude an Officer. This was his second conviction related to Vehicle Operator Flee/Elude Officer in the past two years. He was sentenced to one year in the House of Correction for each conviction and received more than three years of probation.
