Title
Caught going 140 MPH on Yamaha Motorcycle (don't be a Tanner) - Arkansas State Police #pursuit
Description
Trooper's Narrative:
On August 22, 2023 at approximately 1630hrs, I was patrolling the area of Highway 70E near the rest-area, when I received a
phone call from an Arkansas State Police DL Examiner. She stated that she was east of my location and met an oncoming
westbound motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed. I moved to the center-turning lane and observed a motorcycle traveling
west in the outside lane of Highway 70. I clocked the motorcycle with my front radar at 98mph in a 60mph zone. The operator
weaved in and out of traffic at high speeds while failing to signal. As the motorcycle passed by, I turned around and activated
my emergency lights and siren.
I observed the motorcycle to be dark in color with a white male rider, wearing a black helmet and white shirt. Upon passing me,
the motorcycle operator accelerated. He passed by oncoming Cpl Michael Reed. Cpl Reed clocked the motorcycle at 99mph in
a 60mph zone and noted that the operator was turned around and looking behind him, in my direction. I continued pursuing the
motorcycle as he displayed blatant disregard for the safety and welfare of other motorists, reaching speeds in excess of double
the speed limit, 140mph in a 60mph zone.
After pursuing the motorcycle for approximately 4-5miles, he finally pulled to the roadside. The operator was identified as
Tanner Templeton. He was taken into custody without further incident. Templeton stated that he observed
oncoming Trooper while traveling down Highway 70E and accelerated in attempt to get away.
The motorcycle was unregistered and displayed no license plate. It was confirmed to be a black 2007 Yamaha, last registered
out of Texas and had no insurance coverage.
The operator had no motorcycle endorsement and failed to transfer to an
Arkansas driver's license after establishing residence for approximately 10 months.
