What begins as an 88 MPH speeding stop on I-430 quickly develops into a dangerous nighttime pursuit involving a silver Dodge Ram 1500, heavy traffic, repeated interstate exits, and speeds exceeding 100 MPH.
According to the Arkansas State Police report, Corporal Taylor Elkins observed the pickup drifting between lanes before radar registered 88 MPH in a 65 MPH zone. The truck initially stopped on the shoulder, but as Elkins began approaching, it allegedly accelerated away and the pursuit began.
The Ram allegedly reached speeds exceeding 100 MPH while moving across lanes, taking the Otter Creek exit at the last moment and using frontage roads before returning to the interstate. Heavy traffic made it difficult for troopers to safely position themselves for a Tactical Vehicle Intervention.
At one point, the report says the driver turned off the truck's headlights and taillights while traveling on the interstate, a maneuver Arkansas State Police refers to as "blacking out." Additional troopers eventually joined the pursuit as the Ram repeatedly moved between I-30 and the frontage road.
The pursuit then reaches a critical moment as troopers finally find an opportunity to intervene.
