Shop with a Cop 2023

On August 23, 2023, the Sunshine Division collaborated with Fred Meyer and the Portland Police Bureau to assist 230 underserved children in shopping for back-to-school clothes. The 21st annual Izzy’s Kids "Shop With A Cop" event aligned with Sunshine Division's centennial milestone of aiding families and individuals in the Portland metro area. Each child received a $150 gift card from the Izzy’s Kid’s Fund, courtesy of Sunshine Division, and was paired with a Portland Police Bureau officer for shopping. Fred Meyer extended substantial discounts on clothing and provided school supplies and toiletries. Meanwhile, Columbia Sportswear generously contributed backpacks for all participating children. Selected based on financial need, kids participating in "Shop with a Cop" were identified by various agencies. The program fostered community relationships and was seen as an important platform for officers to engage positively with youth. The event's significance was further heightened as it fell within Sunshine Division's surge in assistance efforts following the pandemic. Through its Izzy's Kids fund, the organization funded the event and other year-round programs, reflecting its commitment to aiding children in need. Over the years, this initiative has enabled officers to support thousands of children, creating a lasting impact on both the recipients and the community.
