Description On September 25, 2026, at approximately 10:14 PM, Arkansas State Police Trooper Tanner Mathis was traveling south on Interstate 540 near Fort Smith when he observed three motorcycles that he believed were involved in racing activity. The report states that the lead motorcycle used the right shoulder to pass another vehicle. As Trooper Mathis caught up with the motorcycle, he noticed that it did not display a license plate. After activating his emergency equipment and attempting to conduct a traffic stop, the motorcycle failed to yield and accelerated away. The pursuit continued toward the Arkansas-Oklahoma state line. Before entering Oklahoma, the trooper estimated the motorcycle's speed at approximately 140 MPH in a posted 65 MPH zone. The pursuit continued west on U.S. Highway 271, where the motorcycle eventually reached 148 MPH, confirmed by radar. The pursuit later entered the Pocola and Spiro areas. The motorcycle continued through streets and private properties, including private driveways and residential yards, while the trooper continued attempting to get the rider to stop. The pursuit eventually continued onto County Road E 1235. According to the report, the motorcycle failed to negotiate a curve and collided with the tree line. Trooper Mathis then located the rider and began checking on him. The motorcycle was identified as a red 2023 Kawasaki ZX636 and was later towed by Adams Recovery.
