Title
Dumb Girlfriend Has Boyfriend Killed Instead Of Breaking Up With Him, Thinks Cops Believe Her Lies
Description
Watch this police interrogation with intense raw interrogation from the interrogation room as police conduct a full interrogation of a suspect. This raw interrogation footage captures every moment of the suspect interview, complete with deception detection techniques, and criminal psychology in true JCS style interrogation.
The Background
Victim: Harley Joseph Jacka, 28, of Virginia, Minnesota. Father of four. Dating Peters about two months.
Primary defendant: Janessa Lynn Peters, then 20–21, of Eveleth, Minnesota.
Others convicted: Bartholamy Jake Drift (also in a relationship with Peters); Anthony James Isham; John Edward Isham.
Motive (admitted in court): Peters said she no longer wanted to be with Jacka and was having trouble ending the relationship. She asked Drift to “get rid of him.” No payment was exchanged.
The Crime
When: Night of April 27, 2014. Body found April 29, 2014.
Where: Apartment at 207 Fifth Street, Virginia, Minnesota (St. Louis County / Iron Range).
What happened: Jacka was stabbed multiple times and died. Four knives were recovered. Cause of death: homicide by stabbing.
Planning: Peters said she asked Drift at a gathering to kill Jacka, then brought Jacka to that apartment knowing that was the plan. Drift agreed. Others later admitted taking part in the assault. Peters said she returned the next day, saw blood through a window, and later met Drift, who confirmed Jacka was dead.
The Investigation
Three men (Drift and the two Ishams) were arrested soon after. Motive was unclear until August 2015.
Peters was in the St. Louis County Jail on unrelated drug/probation matters when she voluntarily confessed on August 24, 2015, saying she could no longer live with the guilt. She had not been a suspect in the homicide.
She named Drift as the person she asked and said she believed the Ishams also took part.
Key evidence: her confession and later guilty-plea testimony; physical evidence at the apartment; statements and pleas from the co-defendants.
Conviction and Sentencing
All cases were in St. Louis County District Court (Virginia), Judge James Florey.
Janessa Lynn Peters: Charged with second-degree murder (Sept. 2015). Pleaded guilty to intentional second-degree murder on Nov. 10, 2015. Sentenced Jan. 9, 2017, to 346 months (about 28 years, 10 months). Judge denied a request to cut about 12 years. Guideline sentence. Minnesota second-degree murder is a term of years, not life; supervised release typically follows after serving the required portion.
