Title
Fleeing is a Felony
Description
As a part of the Milwaukee Police Department's Keep MKE's Streets Safe initiative, MPD will feature a driver who has been arrested, charged, convicted and sentenced for reckless driving and/or fleeing from police. This week we are featuring Teon O. Key. On October 18, 2018, MPD officers saw a car being driven by Teon Key run a stop sign at a high rate of speed at the intersection of North 34th Street and West Auer Avenue. Police activated their lights and sirens in an attempt to stop the vehicle. Key refused to pull over and led officers on a vehicle pursuit. During the pursuit, Key reached speeds of 60 miles per hour and disregarded several traffic laws. He continued to flee even after the vehicle's hood flipped open, blocking his view of the road. Key eventually pulled over near the 3700 block of North 39th Street where he fled on foot. After a short foot pursuit Key was taken into custody. Officers found that the vehicle he was driving was stolen. On April 03, 2019, Key was criminally charged by the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office for Attempting to Flee or Elude an Officer and 2nd-Degree Reckless Endangering Safety. Key was sentenced to a total of 3 years and 6 months in prison.
