St. Patrick’s Day Safe Ride Home
Description
Celebrating St. Patricks’ Day weekend like Drippy and Coney? Choose your backseat wisely. Don’t rely on luck. Plan a safe ride home. The PBOT’s Safe Ride Home program offers $20 off taxi rides and $10 off Uber or Lyft rides so you can celebrate and get home safely. Safe Ride Home coupons are valid for rides starting in Portland from Friday, March 13 to Tuesday, March 17, from 6 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. each night. The Safe Ride Home program encourages safe travel and helps curb impaired driving — a top contributing factor to traffic deaths on Portland streets. Traffic deaths are preventable.   The Portland Police Bureau (PPB) is a key partner with PBOT in traffic safety, focusing enforcement on behaviors most likely to cause serious injury or deadly crashes, including impaired driving and other high-risk violations. During select weekends and holidays, PPB works with law enforcement agencies across the region to high-visibility DUII enforcement missions to deter impaired driving and enhance public safety. Last year, PPB’s Traffic Division made 222 DUII arrests, and Portland did not record any DUII-related deadly crashes during peak holiday periods. These efforts are part of the City of Portland’s pursuit of safer streets for everyone. PBOT's Safe Ride Home program started in 2017 and provides travel options for people celebrating at certain times of the year. Last year, the program helped fund more than 3,050 rides so people could celebrate responsibly and get home safely. The Safe Ride Home program is funded by the taxi permit fees and fees charged for every Lyft and Uber ride in Portland.
