Title
Arkansas State Police vs. 50cc Moped
Description
Trooper's Report: On October 5, 2026, at approximately 1543 hours, I, Trooper Wootten #567, attempted to initiate a traffic stop on an unlicensed red moped in the 700 block of Weston Road. The moped was operated by a white male wearing black pants, sunglasses, and a black backpack. The operator was not wearing a shirt. Upon activating my emergency lights and siren, the operator failed to yield and continued traveling northbound on Weston Road. I overtook the moped on the left in an effort to initiate the traffic stop. However, the operator continued to evade apprehension, passing my patrol unit and proceeding northbound toward Albert Pike Road. I subsequently maneuvered my patrol unit alongside the moped and guided it toward the right shoulder of the roadway. The moped entered the roadside ditch and laid over on its side. The operator then fled on foot, traveling eastbound into a wooded area, where he was subsequently lost from sight. Officers with the Hot Springs Police Department arrived on scene and assisted in conducting a canine track in an attempt to locate the fleeing suspect. Despite these efforts, the track was unsuccessful, and the suspect was not apprehended. During an inventory of the moped prior to its removal, I located an Arkansas driver's license in the storage compartment beneath the seat. The driver's license identified the individual as Chance Vaughn. Upon reviewing Vaughn's previous law enforcement contacts, I observed documentation indicating that he had a distinctive "FTP" tattoo on his right triceps. This identifying characteristic was consistent with a tattoo I observed on the individual operating the moped. Based on the recovered driver's license, the documented identifying characteristics, and my observations during the incident, I identified Chance Vaughn as the operator of the moped. Based on the circumstances of the incident and the subsequent identification of Vaughn, an arrest warrant will be sought for Fleeing, a Class A misdemeanor. Martin's Towing and Recovery responded to the scene and took possession of the moped.
