Parole Absconder in a STOLEN Kia Forte - HIGH SPEED PURSUIT ends in PIT Maneuver #chase #pit
Description
Trooper's Report:
I was sitting stationary at the 115 mile marker on U.S. Highway 67 observing traffic on Tuesday, September 5th, 2023. At
approximately 7:52 p.m. I observed a gray Kia Forte traveling southbound with Missouri tags and I noticed that the passenger's
side tail light was out.
I pulled out to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle for the violation. I caught up to the vehicle near the 112 mile marker and
activated my blue lights. The vehicle, bearing Missouri tags ZE0S2U, did not pull over right away. Instead, I followed the
vehicle as it changed lanes, passed another motorist, and then changed lanes again. At this point we had reached the 111
southbound exit ramp and the driver took that exit.
We continued down the exit ramp. When the vehicle reached the stop sign at State Highway 230 the vehicle activated his right
turn signal and turned onto Highway 230. When the vehicle turned onto Highway 230 I could hear his engine as he was
accelerating in an attempt to flee. At this point I activated my siren and advised dispatch that I was in pursuit and that we were
westbound from U.S. 67 going towards Alicia. The vehicle reached speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour.
At 7:56 p.m. we
had rounded a curve and so the subject's speed was in the 80's. I used that opportunity to end the pursuit by tactical vehicle
intervention. I placed my passenger's side front bumper alongside the vehicle's driver's side rear bumper and caused the
vehicle to spin out into the field on the eastbound side of the road. The vehicle slid to a stop and the driver exited with his
hands up. He was taken into custody without further incident at 7:57 p.m.
The vehicle was reported stolen from Butler County Missouri. The driver was an absconder, wanted by the Arkansas Board of
Parole.
