Killer Truck Driver Runs Over 64-Year-Old Grandma, Abuses Her Body, Then Dumps Her in the Woods
Description
On September 20, 2021, 64-year-old grandmother Melody Rohrer went out for her usual morning walk along a quiet Michigan road. She never returned home.
Hours later, investigators were searching for a missing woman. What they eventually uncovered would lead them to a damaged pickup truck, a 29-year-old driver named Colby Martin, and a disturbing investigation that would challenge everything he claimed about that morning.
**What Colby Martin described as a tragic accident would ultimately become a first-degree murder case.**
🔍 **THE DISAPPEARANCE THAT STARTED IT ALL**
Melody Rohrer was a retired nurse, a loving wife, a mother, and a grandmother of four. She regularly walked the rural roads near Oak Shores Campground in Van Buren County, Michigan.
When she failed to return, her family became worried. Investigators eventually located Colby Martin asleep inside a black Ford pickup truck in a Walmart parking lot. The vehicle had significant front-end damage.
Martin later led authorities to Melody's body in the Three Rivers State Game Area.
But why had he taken her there instead of calling for help?
🎙️ **INSIDE THE COLBY MARTIN INTERROGATION**
During police questioning, Martin maintained that he had accidentally struck Melody in the fog and panicked afterward.
Detectives weren't simply interested in how the collision happened. They wanted to understand his decisions afterward, the inconsistencies in his account, and what the physical evidence might reveal.
As investigators examined his statements and digital activity, the case took an increasingly disturbing turn.
⚠️ **THE DISTURBING EVIDENCE**
Investigators recovered evidence that raised questions far beyond an ordinary hit-and-run.
During a February 2022 court hearing, testimony linked DNA from Martin and Melody to condoms recovered during the investigation. Detectives also presented evidence of online searches involving pornography depicting dead or unconscious women.
Martin denied engaging in sexual activity with Melody, and he was never charged with a sexual offense. The defense also challenged the interpretation of the forensic evidence.
Prosecutors argued that the collision was deliberate. Martin maintained it was accidental.
⚖️ **THE VERDICT AND SENTENCE**
On June 14, 2023, a Van Buren County jury found Colby Martin guilty of:
• First-degree murder
• Failure to stop at the scene of a crash causing death
• Concealing the death of an individual
On July 31, 2023, Judge Kathleen Brickley sentenced him to **life in prison without the possibility of parole.**
🕊️ **IN LOVING MEMORY OF MELODY DAWN ROHRER**
Melody was 64 years old. She dedicated much of her life to caring for others as a nurse and was deeply loved by her husband, children, and grandchildren.
Her family received a measure of justice, but no verdict could bring her home.
May Melody Dawn Rohrer never be forgotten.
