Title
Leslie Snell's DUI Arrest & Why She Kept Her Job | Bodycam
Description
At 6:59 PM on Monday, April 20, 2026, a passerby on Route 28 in Yarmouth, Massachusetts flagged down a police officer. A silver Jeep had driven into a street sign — half in a parking lot, half up on a dirt mound — and there was a woman inside still trying to start it.
She told the officer she had had two drinks at Giardino’s and left about an hour earlier. Giardino’s was roughly a hundred yards away.
What the officer wrote in her report, what happened during the field sobriety tests, and what officers found in the Jeep when they went back to get her phone and wallet are all in this video.
The woman was Leslie Woodson Snell — planning director for the town of Nantucket, twenty-four years in the island’s planning and land use department, promoted to run it in 2023. On an island where one planning decision can move a property’s value by millions, she is the person who decides what gets built.
She was arraigned in Barnstable District Court the following morning. A week later she agreed to have the OUI charge continued without a finding for one year — which is not a conviction — along with a 45-day licence forfeiture, an alcohol education programme and $600 in fees.
Two months after that, the commission overseeing her department met in executive session and renewed her contract unanimously.
Snell has publicly said she deeply regrets the incident and accepts full responsibility, and that the matter has been resolved.
No one was injured. Every claim in this video comes from the Yarmouth Police Department arrest report, Massachusetts court records, published reporting by the Nantucket Current, and body camera footage that is a public record under Massachusetts law.
DISCLAIMER: This video is based on a public arrest report, court records, published news reporting and body camera footage released by a Massachusetts municipal police department. Nothing in this video is legal advice. Leslie Snell was not convicted; the charge was continued without a finding.
