Deputies were called after a real estate agent reported something suspicious at a home she'd sold. When she arrived at the property for a final walk-through before [music] closing, she was met by a handyman who had already changed the locks and refused to [music] hand over the key, claiming he'd been hired by the real homeowner. >> Hey guys, how are you? >> Good, you? >> Living the dream. >> What do you got? Are the people living here here now? The fraud the squatters? >> The squatters are not here right now. >> Okay. >> But here's the whole story quick rundown. House was foreclosed on, people bought the house, they closed on the house yesterday. The fraud person allegedly came to the house or hired a handyman. The handyman changed the locks that they had on the house already, so now they don't have keys to the The handyman's holding on to the keys to the house, not letting them go into the house. >> Where's the handyman? >> Don't know. People bought the house, they technically live here now. They allegedly whatever posted this on the door. >> Who posted it? >> The fraudulent person. >> The squatter? >> Yeah. >> Do we have her information? >> Her Is it spelled right? >> Okay. >> Um I guess she has prior fraudulent charges that they looked up in the past something like that. Is it civil? >> I think it's not civil. >> No, I don't think so. Cuz Sarge thinks it's civil based on what's all there. >> Yeah, I think we got squatter's law. >> And then she text me and said, "Oh, there was a gentleman here that says that he's changing the locks that the owner has sent him to do so." [ __ ] Who's my realtor? >> Yeah. >> You're the right book. And then when I started to call the contacts and kind of get my pieces together, be the FBI and try to figure out this chain of title, figure out what was going on, um he came back and posted these signs all over the place. He posted over here changing the locks on a house for somebody that she don't even know. >> Yeah. >> That's crazy. >> Are they actually staying here? >> No. >> Okay. >> There's nobody been here. >> Okay. So they don't have any property in here? >> Nothing. >> Okay. >> Vacant. And they removed the handyman removed the lock that we changed it to yesterday. And how would you feel if you were sleeping in a house that you just closed on and somebody rolls up on your house and starts changing your locks? I mean, you'll be seeing the end of a .380 if it were me. I mean, I'm just being honest. >> Uh, yeah. Y'all got the sale paperwork? >> I sure do. All right. All right. Here's our closing docs from yesterday. >> Yep. Are you the new homeowners? >> I am the representing realtor. She is the buyer. >> So, she is the new homeowner. So, here's all of the closing docs from yesterday. And then I did print out chain of title so that you guys could kind of see ownership. It's in the secondary. >> Okay. >> Um, so that you guys could see kind of how that transpired. >> All right. >> Y'all want some Cajun boiled peanuts? >> No, thank you. My fingers will be stinking the rest of the day. Do you have your ID, ma'am? Perfect. >> This lady has filed this deed that is fraudulent. I mean, ultimately I think we're going to have to pursue charges against her for that, but that's outside of our current problem, you know? >> She filed a deed through the court? >> Right. So, and this paperwork here, you can see that she has filed a fraudulent deed. So, this is the title showing that PennyMac is the verified owner of the property. Okay? And obviously PennyMac is who sold her the property. This individual saying that she's making claim to this property two owners back that she was a beneficiary. So, there's no chain of title. Cajun So, here's the property card that shows PennyMac as the owner of the property. >> Mhm. >> And then here's this fraudulent deed that she's recorded that's basically stating >> say it. >> Yeah, of course. >> [clears throat] >> It's stuck in my throat. Like it's just chilling out. >> Oh, no. Making the back of your throat burn. >> So, she's saying estate is selling the property to the trust. So, she's signing as if she's a seller to herself as a seller, but she's nowhere as a seller or an owner. >> Right. >> It's like trying to find where it's well, though. >> Is this on the clerk of the court's website? Is that where we got this? >> the property appraiser's website. So, she did go down to the courthouse and she did record that deed. But, there was no ownership. She's claiming that she um filed for a silent title title transfer and filed for property abandonment. >> What do we got here? >> This is the general warranty deed. This lady is stating that she was a beneficiary of the deceased Campanello that was a owner of this property 7 years back. >> Okay. >> So, she has no claim to it, again. >> Right. >> I guess wanted to be able to provide you the chain so that you can actually kind of see it. And when a foreclosure happens, I mean that's why it takes so long in a foreclosure proceeding is because they have to make sure that there is nobody that can pop up and make claim to the asset. >> Right. >> So, when we have it, it's kind of a blank canvas. So, this lady kind of coming out of the blue and changing locks and threatening trespassing just seems to be a little bit egregious to me. >> All right. Let me just go verify that on the property appraiser's website and we'll be right back. So, this person's got no claim to the property. As far as our lawyer has said, for the fraudulent document that she filed with the court. Did we find that document in the clerk of the court's? >> I haven't looked yet. >> Is that Sergeant Jones? >> I've already established she doesn't have any claim or rights to that property. >> Right. >> And she got it falsely. >> It sounds like it's a typical squatter situation. So, they're here now. She is not the new owners. I They have the whole bill of sale and everything. We tell them they're free to do what they want with their property. They sold it yes- they bought it yesterday. They closed yesterday. >> Let's get some evidence with the the first website about on the property the crazy who does it come back to? >> It comes back to PennyMac. >> Who took it back? >> Which is the bank. That this these people bought it through a foreclosure. >> Okay. >> And they bought it yesterday, so it's probably not updated in the system. Clerk of the court showing that she filed paperwork suing the prior owners of property after PennyMac had already foreclosed on the property. >> What's her name? >> Her name is All this stuff started October 7th, but the property was foreclosed on and became the property of I believe it said September. >> Do you guys want to contact the listing agent? Would that help you in your discovery? >> The listing agent? >> Yeah. >> Not really. >> Obviously he's the one with the the contract seller to sell the to list I mean the property is publicly marketed. >> Yeah. >> On the market. >> We're just going through >> in my career ever had this happen. >> Yeah. >> Ever. >> That is more with like rentals, but this whole deed >> Yeah, it's all >> And cuz that information's clearly on the clerk of the courts. >> Right. >> Um She's suing the Daughtrys who lost their home. When did it say September? >> Right. Right. >> That's when the foreclosure finalized? >> And she >> But they didn't submit their she That all got submitted to the clerk of the courts and I think it October 7th. >> Right. >> But then it's saying it's suing some FBC Mortgage LLC. >> Have no idea. Like I said, it's all I feel like it's just all fraud. >> Oh, yeah. >> I looked up the lady. We have a as realtors we have like a I'm going to call it like type of situation. I mean obviously nothing like you guys have, but it's just full of scheme to defraud or any theft charges. So, does it seem like this is out of the wheelhouse? You know? >> She's advanced her game maybe. >> Right. You know, and I was kind of like trying to feel her out because like I said in my gut I felt like maybe she had gotten scammed. >> Right. >> She was under the impression that she had rightfully purchased the property from somebody that >> Mhm. >> didn't own it, right? So, that was and then when she started talking about the silent title transfer and she filed for abandoned property and it's hers and I was like, "That's not how that works." >> Yeah. >> I mean if I could drive down the the road and file this abandoned property and make claim that I'm the owner, I mean everyone would be doing it. >> Right. >> That's not how it works. >> Right. >> Then she started screaming that she was going to have these folks arrested and that she was going to sue or fine them $10,000 if they're on the property. Crazy. >> Crazy. We deal with the crazies all the time. >> All the time. It was nice talking to you guys. Thank you so much. >> All we deal with is crazies. >> Yeah. >> How many acres is this? >> Three and a half. >> Oh, that's why it was 225 or whatever it said. What's it say? >> Yeah. >> I saw that number and I was like >> Yeah, property values in Marion County are definitely not what they used to be. >> No. >> How much does that weigh? >> About 20 lbs. >> You got to work out every day, right? >> I don't even go to gym. >> Yeah, right. >> That's why it's so impressive when I see videos of cops running down people on foot. >> Yeah. >> It's not easy. >> No. >> Did you guys deal with the squatter down here where they built the new house? This guy out of the blue, how he hooked up the electric, nobody knows, but he had electric to it. He was getting mail to it. Him and his girlfriend was getting mail to it. Well, it literally took him about 3 months to get him out of there. >> Cuz they changed the squatter law, I don't know. >> Yeah. >> Four or six months ago. >> Yeah, cuz he was in there and they said, "Oh no, you got to give him time to get out." So, he just dilly-dicked for 2 more months. They didn't have water, so they come down to B&M here and asked for water. Can I get a bucket of water to come back? But they just squatted right in there like they owned it. They say they were there probably good six eight months. Hell, I had them squatting under my bus. I had to run them off. >> [laughter] >> So, it's on file. It's on record. >> Do you have a physical copy with it on you? >> I do. >> Are you able to bring it to the house? >> I am not at this moment. I'm at work. I can do it later. >> All right. Well, we're here now. There's a situation and we're trying to prove residency right now. So, is there a way you can come up here with that paper? >> Can I send someone with it? I can't I'm at this moment. I'm at work. >> Well, we need you here for the fact of the matter. >> Okay. Well, let me see if I can get over there, but it's not going to be right this second. It's going to take me a few minutes. >> That's fine. Just I'll call you back in a few minutes. All right? >> Okay. >> All right. Bye-bye. >> Okay. Well, if you look on Marion County Property Appraiser and go pull up that address, my warranty deed is on file. And I have a quiet title action that's also in place that I have filed with Marion County. >> Okay. Well, you're going to need to take all that to the civil division and discuss it with them there. >> Okay. >> All right. What What was your date of birth? I'm sorry. I have your first name and your last name. That's all. >> No, you don't That's not relevant to you, sir. Again, >> It's relevant for It's relevant for the It's It's relevant to the report. That's fine. >> Hello. >> Is Amy here? >> Who? >> Amy. >> Yeah. >> Is Amy here? >> I don't know if she is or not. I've I've been in my own house for I don't know if she's here or not, to be honest with you. What What do y'all need? >> We're looking for >> We just need to talk to her. Where she stay at? >> Uh her her her fiance's camper. >> Okay. Y'all don't know if she's inside or not? >> No, I don't know. >> We need We need to talk to her about something. >> Why y'all got the dog and all that coming up here on my private property? >> Okay, well we still need to talk to her either way. >> No, I mean but it looks to me like y'all are here to arrest somebody. >> Well, we need to talk to her first. So, is she here or not? >> I don't know. I haven't seen her. I just came out of my house. >> Can you see if she's here? >> Is she Is she here or not? >> How y'all How y'all just walk up on a man's property like that, >> Because this is where she lives. >> Huh? >> This is where she lives. >> No, how y'all just walk up on this man's property like this? >> Just like we did. >> Huh? >> We just walked up. There's no gate, nothing like that. >> property. >> Okay. >> This man owns this [ __ ] >> Okay. >> Y'all got to respect that. Time to be a man. >> I don't want to arrest you either. >> I'm sorry. >> It's I mean it is private property. >> Y'all brought the dog, you don't like god damn McGruff. >> And that's what That's what has brought us here. You bring a dog up here to >> Okay, so if I send the dog away, is that going to be less of a problem? >> Well, I don't know. I don't know. You may be able to get >> To talk to Amy. I have told you that. >> Why y'all want to talk? Y'all do that in witness there. >> A witness there, we got to get her there first. >> What? >> To talk to her about the investigation. >> Investigation for what? >> Okay. >> You know, I'm not trying to be disrespectful. My dad is tired of this. >> That's okay. >> You know, I got my dog in there. >> Okay. >> So, why you Why What is the arrest warrant? >> It's not an arrest warrant. >> For what? What y'all want to talk to her for? >> About an investigation that's ongoing. That's all I can tell you. I'm not going to tell you any more. I got to talk to her. >> My sister, go turn the light on. Why did y'all come to my house here? >> To go talk to her. >> For what? >> About an investigation that's going on. >> What investigation? >> I'm not going to tell you. >> Y'all got to get your gun or what? I have my hand on my flashlight. Just to talk to you about the investigation. >> You trying to run up? >> Yes, sir. >> Thanksgiving, man. >> No, Thanksgiving's tomorrow. >> Be be be be be respectful, man. >> Being respectful is not the way you're talking to me. Okay. >> For you to be here in this property, you guys need a warrant. >> Is she here Is she here or not? >> Come on, man. Be yourself. >> Look, is she here or not? >> What you come for? >> Because if I come back with a warrant >> This just you dog. >> If I come back with >> Come on, bro. This is our land, bro. >> If I come back with a warrant, I'm going to go in without you. So, you either bring her out >> That's what you got to go do. Get off the property. >> You don't You don't own this property. You don't own this property. >> Get off here. Go get a warrant. >> Would you like me to Would you like Would you like me to leave? Yes, sir. Bye. Get the [ __ ] off the land. Bye. Okay. You pulled out a warrant. I don't have to have a warrant. Thank you, though. I do not have to have a warrant, ma'am. No, ma'am. I do not. >> Y'all against the law. And you got to >> Does he want >> That's against the law, man. >> We can talk to him, sir. He would like He would like to talk to you. Detective has probable cause for her arrest. Just stay right there. I don't want the dog to jump or react. >> He got a what? >> Detective has developed probable cause for her arrest. So, we are here to take her take her to custody. So, if she's here, you need to let us know. >> Why are you >> I don't know the specifics of the investigation. I just know the detective is looking for her because she's got probable cause for a case that she's working. So, it's either we come back here, you know, get this solved tonight or we're going to come back and keep coming because this is the last known address we have for her. And that she has ties to this address, so we're just going to keep coming back. >> Of course. >> So, it'd be just, you know, quick and easy. Tell her to come out. We'll take her into custody and we'll be on your way. >> I still don't >> It's going to happen either way, you know, whether it's tonight or tomorrow. >> She is not a criminal. She's ain't done nothing wrong. >> here to judge. I'm just telling you what we're working off of. But the detective is handling the an >> have a warrant for her arrest? >> We don't have a warrant, we have probable cause, which is we can take somebody into custody based on We don't have a warrant, but we have probable cause. So, we would like for you to go in the house, if she's here, tell her to come out surrender. >> And you guys have an investigation, why [clears throat] you guys don't have >> Because we don't need to submit for a warrant if we can take her into custody before getting a warrant. >> Warrant for her to show up in court. >> Because we have to give her that court order, we have to talk to her to give her that court order. We can't just give somebody >> Now you guys have You guys now are >> We will come back with a warrant if that's what you guys want. And then we will go into the house without your permission. >> Before you guys do all of that, that goes into the court order system. Yes, it I'm sorry, but yes, it does. >> Okay. >> And that goes into the the fifth amendment. >> You got a court order for Amy right now? >> Yes, sir. >> No, ma'am. >> Like we've already explained, I'm not going to round table this. The detective is following an investigation for criminal charges related to some kind of fraud. Fraud? Fraud. >> What what about what about somebody else is involved in on the other side? >> I'm not going to go down into the investigation because all I know is that she's wanted for for something that she did. >> [snorts] >> So, she got a warrant? >> And where is your supervisor? I would like to talk to you. Now you guys are going against the law. >> We're here for a lawful reason. Okay, this is her last known address. If you don't live here or reside here, I don't need to talk to you, then, sir. >> Now you guys are going all against the law. >> Sir, what's your name? >> My name's Charles. >> Charles? >> Charles. >> Okay, well, like I said Appreciate your service. If Amy is here >> please have her come out. We'll take her into custody and we'll be out of here. Uh quick as quick as easy. Um but if she's not, tell us now. >> Okay, so so she come out of bail out of jail? >> Yes, yes, she'll be bailed out. >> How much is it? >> $5,000. >> It would have cost 500 bucks to get her out. >> Yes, sir. >> It's Thanksgiving, man. >> Everything is going to association. That's not the right way. >> That's what we're saying. >> The world goes whether it's a holiday or not. >> Huh? This is all wrong, y'all. It is all wrong. Especially you guys have to also send stuff through the mail. >> No, we do not, ma'am. >> Yes, especially if you're going to be >> doing this job for over 10 years. I can tell you that's not how it works. >> Everything to investigation, everything goes to the court system. So, don't don't go on with that cuz I know a lot about the law. And this is all wrong. This is all wrong. >> Well, we're not leaving until the gentleman Charles tells us to leave the property. You're not the homeowner, so we're not going to talk to you. >> What? Man, you can tell you need to talk. Tell them to leave the property. >> [laughter] >> I really wish you would because I I don't know what >> All you got to do is tell them. >> I told them about it. >> So, let me tell you this, Charles. When the warrant does get filed and becomes active, we're coming back in here and we're not going to leave, okay? So, it's easier for us to get this over done with now and have have her transported and booked in and be done with it versus us coming with a warrant that we're going to, you know, surround the house, possibly go inside if she's in there. Uh we're just here to take her into custody and that's anyway, that's it. >> Why didn't you tell me you were going to arrest me earlier? I would have turned myself in. >> How y'all came up here, bro? Don't touch my [ __ ] woman, bro. >> Now, you're going to be interfering with an investigation. >> Okay, now we're done. We told you that she's going to be arrested, okay? >> Yeah, okay. You have a $5,000 bond. Okay. Do you know what this is about? >> No. >> Okay, I'll tell you something. Keep talking. So, you're being charged with hindering a police officer, okay? Would you like to talk about it? >> No. >> Okay. Cuz you will see him coming out there. I'm going to place you in handcuffs for me. If you'll turn around and place your hands together like you're praying. All right, this man he's going to place you in some handcuffs, okay? Have a seat for us, okay? You just confirm you don't want to talk to us, right? >> No. >> Okay. >> [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music]
