So, you left your ID in some random car? >> Yeah, my whole bag. All my [ __ ] Can you please not stand behind me cuz you making me nervous. It's a payment replay. It's called 21. It's basically you go and steal all the [ __ ] that you can steal and you get out without getting caught. Well, I did it one other time than this time, but I got caught this time. So, >> at Walmart, somebody just shoplifted and they got a buggy full of stuff and I'm following them around the parking lot. They're looking for the ride. I guess they ditched them. >> Okay. All right. And um can you give me a description of the subject? >> Uh redhaired woman. They're getting into a Nissan. The license plate a seven. >> Okay. And it was a Nissan Ultima. Okay. All right. >> I'm in a Dodge Ram truck with two blue barrels in the back of it. If you got a patrol car close, I can pull out behind them and block them in until they get here. But I'm parked two spots over from them. They're loading the car really fast. On March 25th, officers in Palm Coast, Florida were called after a woman was spotted leaving Walmart with a shopping cart full of unpaid merchandise. When an employee approached her and asked for a receipt, she refused. And instead of stopping, she pushed straight past them and rushed out of the store. At this point, what may seem like a routine shoplifting call quickly begins to escalate. And what happens next is something no one there was expecting. >> How you doing? >> Fine. How are you? >> Good. >> Awesome. >> So, hold. Okay. Is this your car over here? >> No. >> All right. Would you come over here with me? >> Where? >> Over in this way. >> For what? >> So, we're doing an investigation right now. Apparently, somebody walked out with a >> car put in a random car. >> Yeah. >> Yeah, that was me. >> Okay. Would you come over by the car with us? >> Whose car is it? >> What do you mean? >> Whose car is it? >> I don't know. >> Me neither. >> Okay. All right. So, where's all your stuff you took out of the store? And >> I just put I put it in a random car that was open. >> In a random car that was open for what? >> What do you mean for what? because y'all come y'all was coming. >> Okay. So, you just put all the stuff in a random car you didn't know? >> Yeah, it's a game I was playing. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> What for? >> Um just for the hell of it. >> Okay. You got any ID on you? >> No. >> I left it in the car. >> Which car? >> The random car. I don't know what car it was. >> What color was it? >> Um silver. >> Silver. >> Gray. Something like that. >> So, you left your ID in some random car? >> Yeah. My whole bag. All my [ __ ] >> All right. Makes sense. >> What kind of bag do you have? >> What kind of purse? is I think it's a Michael Cor. Can you please not stand behind me cuz you make me nervous. I was the whole time. >> Were you? >> No. >> Yeah, he's in a car. >> Well, I'll be damned. >> What was your question? >> What kind of purse did you have? >> It's a Michael Kors purse. Can you go get it for me? >> Okay. >> What kind of vehicle were you? >> It's like gray or silver or something. >> What kind of make model? >> Um I don't know. >> You have no idea what kind of car you're >> No, because y'all were coming and I just ran up to the car and put it's a payment replay. It's called 21. It's basically you go and steal all the [ __ ] that you can steal and you get out without getting caught. Well, I did it one other time than this time, but I got caught this time. So, now I got to figure out where my purse is and where my merchandise is because now I got to give all the merchandise back to Walmart. >> Well, it's not really a game. >> It is a game >> to you. That's the It's a It's fun, too. It's really fun. >> Oh, going to jail is fun. >> Okay. Well, I suppose. Am I going to jail? >> Well, we'll see how much stuff you took. >> It's a lot of [ __ ] >> The woman admits she walked a full cart of unpaid merchandise out of the store and loaded it into a vehicle. But according to her, this was all just a misunderstanding. She claims the car wasn't even hers, that she randomly chose it, placed the stolen items inside along with her purse, and did it all right as law enforcement was arriving. She then tells officers she was playing a game called 21, where the goal is to grab as much merchandise as possible and walk out without paying, all while trying not to get caught. At this point, officers are hearing an explanation that doesn't quite add up. And situations like this tend to get more complicated the longer they unfold. >> So where's where's the car at? >> I don't know. >> Okay. >> What's your name? >> It's Amber. >> Okay. And I don't find it funny. I'm just very >> Okay. Did you Is the car yours or are you renting it? >> I don't know whose car it was. >> It's just a random person. >> It's just a random car. Yeah. Like if you walk up to this car. >> Okay. How about you feel me? It's going to be open or it's going to be closed. You never know. You just got to try it out. >> All right. Go ahead and put your hands behind your back for me. What's wrong with your arm? Is it broken or >> I think you >> Okay. >> Oh, wait a second. >> All right, we'll get that. We'll get that. We'll get that. >> Do you have any leg shackles? >> Uh, I have leg shackles. >> Hey, I have a hobble. >> Oh, I got >> You do? >> Actually, flex. >> I was just trying to grab my phone. You flex. >> We can do flex. >> Yeah. >> You're not going to put shackles? Are you [ __ ] serious? >> So, you got a cast on your arm. >> Exactly. Regular handcuffs. >> Scraped up knees, too. >> No one said you're going on your feet. So, what are you putting shackles on me for? >> You got a cast on your arm. >> Oh, >> it's too big for regular handcuffs. >> Oh, okay. Look at that. Flex cuffs. >> So, let's go stick these back here. >> All right. And not too tight for you? >> No. >> All right. Let's go over here for a second. >> All right. >> You got anything on you? >> Is that my phone I just fell? >> No, that was a stick. >> No, I don't have anything on me. >> Okay. So, you're not under arrest right now. You're just being secured so we can conduct our investigation. >> Okay. >> Do you have anything else on you? >> Um, >> like on you, in you, anything like that? >> Do you have anything that say you do go to jail that if you go into the jail and they find it on you later? Is there anything like that? No. A tampon that needs to be changed, you just ask me that question. Well, you can keep that. Ask the same question. >> All right. Your You said your name was Amber. >> Yes. Last name is M. >> You got a middle name? Amber? >> D. >> D. >> Yeah. >> All right. What's your birthday, dear? >> 114. >> Deputies detain Amber without any resistance. As they continue their investigation, she quickly admits she doesn't even live in Palm Coast and goes out of her way to make one thing clear. Her boyfriend had nothing to do with this. >> You live around here, Amber? >> Um, no. I do come out here sometimes, though. >> You don't live in Palm Coast? Mhm. >> Okay. >> All right. You're not under arrest right now. You're being detained. >> All right. >> My boyfriend doesn't know that I steal >> and he doesn't know that I put all this [ __ ] in the car neither. >> Okay. >> So, I would be really in trouble with him. >> But that's that's the thing. >> What kind of car is it? >> I don't remember cuz it's a rental car. We just got the rental car. >> I thought you said it was someone random this month. >> Yeah, I know. I lied to you. >> Her her boyfriend rented the car. >> Yeah, he rented a car. >> Hold on one second. >> Real quick before we go any further. Okay. She's just going to read the right to remain silent blah blah blah blah blah blah. >> Well, we we still have to read it before we can talk to you. >> It's like music to my ears. >> Anything you say can and will be used against you in court law. You have the right to talk to a lawyer and have him or her present with you while you are being questioned. If you cannot afford to hire a lawyer, one will be upon you to represent you before any questioning. If you wish, you decide anytime to exercise these rights, not answer any questions or make any statements. You understand these rights as I've explained them to you? >> Yeah. >> Okay. You said Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> All right. Cool. So, anyway, that's done. Um, like I was saying, yeah, that's my boyfriend's car. He ran in the car and he was shopping and I had found all this [ __ ] that I wanted because they told me to play 21 and my boyfriend's older than me, so he doesn't play that [ __ ] And I started playing the game. This is my first time playing the game and I put the [ __ ] in the back of the car and I saw you guys coming. So, I walked off. My boyfriend knows nothing about it. I don't even know where the [ __ ] he's at. >> So, he's here with you now. >> Yeah. If I could call him. Can I call him? >> What's his name real quick? >> Matt. >> Matt? What? Um, Campbell. >> Campbell. Yeah, >> just like the soup. >> Yeah. >> Is that Matthew? >> You call him Matt? >> Like name. >> What's his uh birth name? Matthew. >> Yeah. Can you put it? >> But um yeah, he doesn't know anything about it. >> No. Stay in there. >> Oh, I'm not getting out. I'm not getting out. I have my knee scraped up. What's his birthday? >> Um I don't know. Maybe got to ask him. >> How old is he? >> He is 35. You know his number off the top of your head? >> No, it's in my phone though. >> Okay. >> Can I call him? >> Not right now. >> Well, cuz I need to tell him I got in trouble. >> Well, we'll worry about that in a second. >> Can I ask why? >> Because right now we're conducting an active investigation. >> What is the investigation? I just told you. >> I still have to confirm it. >> Okay. >> So, he's going to get the car. Well, we We're car right now. for me. >> Okay. Well, we know what we know. All right. Can you turn AC on? >> I I will. I rolled the window down for you. >> Just like all this plastic is hard sometimes to get air back. >> As deputies begin searching Amber's vehicle, they quickly locate the merchandise taken from Walmart. But that's not all they find. Mixed in with the stolen items are other things that immediately raise red flags, giving deputies reason to slow things down and take a much closer look at what they're dealing with. >> Nope. >> She doesn't like me. She has a problem with me. It's crazy. >> Meanwhile, in the back of the patrol car, Amber, still in handcuffs, begins making alarming statements. She claims she has schizophrenia and says a personal demon named Te told her to play this game. Her behavior raises serious questions. It's unclear whether she's experiencing a genuine mental health episode or trying to influence the situation, but either way, deputies have to stay focused on the investigation while keeping an eye on her condition. And as they continue searching her vehicle, things are about to take an even more serious turn. >> So So he came to shop. We came to shop, but they told me to play a game. >> T and C T told me to play a game. >> Who's that? >> My demon. >> Okay. >> So, he told me to play a game uh called 21 and I played it and then I got caught. >> Okay. >> I have psychological problems like I have mental issues >> like bipolar, anxiety, depression, all that [ __ ] and schizophrenia. >> Okay. >> Yeah. So, do you have a [ __ ] ATTITUDE IN ME OR ARE YOU [ __ ] GOOD? CUZ YOU ASKED ME QUESTIONS BUT IT LOOKS LIKE YOU GOT A [ __ ] ATTITUDE. ARE YOU GOOD? >> Am I yelling AT YOU? >> BUT YOU GOT A [ __ ] ATTITUDE WITH YOUR LITTLE PISSY ASS. Blink blink. >> I'm not yelling at you. >> Okay, but you got an attitude. >> This is just how I am. >> Well, then change it cuz you meet people like me off duty. >> Okay. Is that >> Okay. NO, IT'S NOT. BUT I'M JUST LETTING YOU KNOW HOW THE REAL WORLD WORKS. >> IT'S NOT. >> OKAY. CUZ YOU'RE A HARD ASS WITH THAT [ __ ] ON, BUT YOU'RE NOT WITHOUT IT. YES. >> YEAH. >> WHAT'S IN THE BAG, SIR? >> Clo the [ __ ] DOOR LIKE THAT AGAIN, YOU STUPID [ __ ] You are not [ __ ] HARD AND THAT'S NOT YOUR [ __ ] PURPOSE TO BE AN OFFICER. Y'all stole a lot of [ __ ] >> If nobody has called it yet, that whiskey fox. >> Oh, that's her. >> That's her. >> She said she got schizophrenia. >> That's interesting. >> Yep. Um, >> interesting. >> During the search, deputies come across a locked safe in the trunk. Nearby, they also find white crystal-like substances and a pipe, items that immediately raise suspicion. At this point, the focus shifts. What started as a shoplifting investigation is beginning to look like something more serious. And deputies turned their full attention to getting that safe open to see what's inside. >> So, we're good. >> I'm rolling. >> All right. Signal zero right out the gate. >> And there's a baggie underneath. >> Got it. >> And there's marijuana resident. >> Is that a light? That's a nice. >> All right. Come box. Oh, we got white powder everybody. Yep. Uh >> yeah. >> Yeah, it's a hiding. >> If I was a bet woman who's a who's a little We're going to have to do ID just to verify. >> I mean, they look >> they look like what the bottle is. Be careful cuz you got marijuana residue right there at the top lid. >> Is that marijuana? >> Can 13 flag telltai. >> We also got white powder >> 1069 a uh serial number on a 9 mm keeltech. >> Um but we got white counter. >> I got >> I got some of the swabs. Oh, there it is. >> Serial number Lima 7 Mike27 L7 M27 >> 9 mm Keltech. >> Yeah, >> it's a negative on that. Do you have the swabs in your test kit? >> Coca. >> Yeah. >> Yes. >> If not, I mean, >> these are a screwdriver. >> I got it. >> I got just a knife. >> These right here. 30 40 bucks a piece. your flavor. >> 2530 bucks a piece if they're real. >> Oh, good job. Good job. Good job. >> You can do nothing but ignite it. caring the window. >> Oh, hot me. >> Okay. >> Can you please take it off? >> I cannot. >> Okay. Can you readjust them? >> I can't. >> They're one time use. >> Well, can you put a different one on then? Because my it's it's cutting my circulation. You're not >> scoot your knees that way. >> Okay. But it's it's my my blood circulation is going off. >> Ma'am, I'm checking them for you. If you scoot your knees that way. There you go. It's okay. >> Okay. Do me use just your pinky. Correct. >> There you go. All right. >> And what do I do if I have to use the bathroom? >> You're good. All right. I readjusted the >> Thank you so much. I have to use the bathroom. >> Okay. Let us let us finish doing what we got to do. We'll >> We'll get you one. Okay. Deputies test the crystalall-like substance to determine exactly what Amber has in her vehicle. What started as a so-called grabandgo game is now taking a serious turn. And depending on those results, this situation could quickly spiral into a much longer list of charges. >> What are these? That would be um >> as well. >> That's meth. >> Yeah. All right. >> RT is math, too. >> All right. >> Or ecstasy. >> Oh, there's another meth. >> Is your car online? >> No. Let's just >> We need a better place to test all of this because we got >> We can We can take that to the station. Just put it >> back either way. Yeah. >> And just get your bag. >> Do you have a walk? >> Yep. out. >> I gave her the opportunity to >> All right, I'll do all the meth woman. >> See, that's awesome. >> All right, this is a lot. Hang on, there's more. >> The test comes back positive, confirming the substance is methamphetamine. At this point, what started as a shoplifting call has officially escalated into a much more serious situation with charges that carry far heavier consequences. >> Oh, we got her on. Huh? >> We got some hair on. >> Yeah. Or that tish. That's photograph everything and we'll send it off to RGCC and crime analysis RGCC and property crime. >> Oo, they can check and see if they had any >> sandy bars. Oh, wait, wait. What was in here? Wait now. >> I don't care what's going on. >> Hey guys. >> Mac is ultimately arrested and charged with grand theft, multiple drug possession charges, and trafficking methamphetamine, a charge that carries serious weight on its own. She's transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall inmate detention facility where she's held on a $34,000 bond. What started as what she described as a shoplifting game quickly turned into a situation involving multiple felony charges, completely changing the outcome of what may have seemed minor in the moment. In a statement following the arrest, Sheriff Rick Staley emphasized the role of the public in cases like this, pointing out that a simple see something, say something call directly led to deputies intervening and uncovering far more than just retail theft. He also made it clear what might seem like a quick grab from a big box store can carry real consequences, especially when it opens the door to more serious offenses.
