Get out of the car now, sir. Just get out the car. I'm trying to breathe. You got to put your hands on him. Get the out of my face. I don't who you are. These were moments when police officers attacked their partner. Starting with the case where officers treated an Army lieutenant in a disgraceful and unexpected manner. An encounter that stunned everyone who saw it. I can't [ __ ] believe I'm being treated like this. While returning from deployment, US National Guard Lieutenant Karen Nazario was pulled over by Officer Daniel Crocker of the Windsor Police Department in Virginia for a possible license plate violation. Instead of stopping on a dark road, Lieutenant Nazario chose to drive to a well-lit gas station to pull over. A decision that frustrated the officers and triggered a highly tense and ultimately disastrous encounter. Driver, roll the window down. Felony traffic stop. Put your hands out the window. Put your hands out the window. Turn the vehicle off. Put your hands out the window. Not complying. J, come around your side. Let me see your hands. How many occupants are in the vehicle? What's going on? How many occupants are in your vehicle? It's only myself. Why are your weapons drawn? What's going on? Open the door slowly and step out. Open the door. I'm not getting out the vehicle. What's going on? Get out of the car. Open the door slowly and get out. What's going on? Get out of the car now. Open the door and get out of the car. Get out of the car now. I'm serving this country and this is how I'm treated. Yo, look. Guess what? I'm a veteran, too. I don't know. Babe, get out of the car. What's going on? Get out of the car now. Lieutenant Nazario's hesitation to exit his vehicle was completely understandable considering the officer's aggressive behavior and the fact that they had already drawn their guns, creating an intimidating and potentially dangerous situation. What's going on? What's going on? You're fixing to the lightning, son. I'm sorry. What? Get out of the car now. What's going on? Get out of the car now. Get out of the car, sir. Just get out of the car. Work with us and we'll talk to you. Get out the car. You received an order. Obey it. I'm I'm af I'm honestly afraid to get out. Can I Yeah, dude. You should get out. What's going on? What did I do? Get out now. I have not committed any crimes. You're being stopped on traffic violation. You're not cooperating at this point right now. You're under arrest. You're being detained. The officers escalated the situation further by aiming their firearms directly at Lieutenant Nazario's face and attempting to forcibly open his vehicle door. But it didn't stop there. The encounter intensified when the second officer, Joe Gutierrez, chose to physically engage with the lieutenant, making an already tense situation even worse. You're being traffic violation. I do not have to get out the vehicle. You haven't even told me why I'm being stopped. Really? Get your hand. Get out of the car now. Get out of the car. Get your hands off me. Please, get your hands off me. Get your hands off me. Get your hands off me. I didn't do anything. Don't do that, sir. Get out of the car. Don't do that. Out of the car now. Don't do I'm trying to talk to you. I'm trying to talk. Can you please relax? Can you please relax? Get out of the car right now. This is not how you treat a vet. Uh, I'm actively serving this country and this is how you going to treat me? I didn't do anything. Whoa. Hold on. Let's go. Hold on. Watch. Watch it. Deployed. Get out of the car. Get out of the car now. That's [ __ ] up. That's [ __ ] up. Get out of the car now, sir. Just get out of the car. I'm trying to breathe. Get out of the car now. That's [ __ ] up. That's really [ __ ] up. Yeah. Get out of the car and get on the ground now. again. Lieutenant Nazario was treated in a deplorable manner. But unfortunately, this was only the beginning. The officers already out of line had even more questionable actions up their sleeves. Take your seat belt off. Specialist, where are you? I'm a lieutenant. Lieutenant, get out of the car. Take your seat belt off and get out of the car. Way more difficult than that. If you just comply, get out of the car. I'm reaching for my seat belt. Fine. Take your seatelt off and get out of the car. Straight on the ground. Straight onto the ground. Ma'am, is your command and available down? Let's go. Is your command available? Get on the ground. Get on the ground. Please talk to me. Get on the ground now. Get on the ground. You're getting sprayed again. Get on the ground. Can you please talk to me about what's Get on the ground. Get on the ground now. Can you please talk to me about Get on the ground. Can you please talk to me about what's not Can you please talk to me about what's going on? Why am I being treated like this? Why? Cuz you're not cooperating. Get on the ground. Why am I being treated like this? This is really messed up. This is really Come on, sir. Sir, just what you really This is Sir, sorry. Sir, you know this is lay down. Lay on the ground. Just lay flat. Lay flat for me, sir. You know this is [ __ ] up. Sir, lay flat. Are they black? This is [ __ ] up. I can't [ __ ] believe being treated like this and I'm [ __ ] Get on the ground. The lieutenant's voice was shaky and he appeared to be on the verge of tears from the treatment he was enduring. Only then did the officers begin to have a conversation with him. Something they should have done from the very beginning. What happened? Why would you comply? I looked out the mirror and I saw guns drawn. I put my hands out and we told you, we identified ourselves. We told you to step out of the vehicle and you wouldn't. All you had to do is comply and we'd have been done by now. Okay. The officers proceeded to search Lieutenant Nazario's truck only to find it completely clean. Realizing they had made a serious mistake, they quickly shifted into damage control mode. Two ways we handle this. We can either sit here with you until you get your eyes back where you can see and I mean at a good distance so you're safe to drive. Okay, and you go on down the road. Go do your deployment. Go continue serving my country which I respect and I thank you for. Okay. Or we can push the issue, write your tickets for no uh license plate displayed and for resisting not resisting obstruction of justice. I don't think we need to go that route because that route makes the army get involved and I know how they are. The you don't notice it. the AR he'll he'll vise for it um because he's been in and he's got friends that are legal offices I know the military is the only place okay the military is the only place where double jeopardy exists legally because whenever we do them we do the army can turn around jam for the same thing I don't want to see that happen you're obviously a second lieutenant you ain't been in very long if you plan on making this a career or even six years or whatever it's up to you I don't care getting this on your record I don't want your record however do if you want to fight it and argue. I mean, and I don't mean that disrespectfully, okay? I mean, you have that right as a citizen. If that's what you want, we'll charge you, have you go to court, notify the command, do all that, or we can take time out of our night, which is not a problem. We're on we're being paid to take care of people. Okay? We'll sit here with you, get your eyes back. You and uh what's your dog's name? Snow. Smoke. That's a bad ass name for a bad dog. Um you and Smoke can get on down the road. Okay? It's entirely up to you. What do you want to do? I got no problem. I'll sit here with you till you get your eyes back and send you on down the road. Okay. I don't want to charge you. I will. It's my job, but I don't want to. The chief's giving me discretion on how to handle it. He's like, "These are the two choices." I said, "That's what I was thinking. That's what I want to do." He's like, "Not a problem. We can either let it go, help him out, get his eyes back, and get him on down the road so the army doesn't get involved, or we can charge you, and then it's a big hassle for you." It doesn't change my life one way or the other way. This, you see what I'm saying? It's not about me. This is about you. What you want to do if if you want to just chill, let this go and no charges filed. We'll take the handcuffs off. We get you a bottle of water to drink on and sit here until you feel comfortable driving. All right? Or the other option is we write the summon discharge you have and we by then we have no choice. We have to notify your command. Again, I'm not I don't have to be an ass. I don't have to be threatening. Uh, I say that because that's just the way it is. Okay, I've just talked to my boss. Those are the two choices that he gave me. Personally, as a veteran who served, okay, I did my I did six years of this. My wife's a retired sailor. She retired as a EA head of the Navy, okay? I don't want to see you get jammed up by the [Applause] army, okay? I don't want to see it happen. I I do have a good rapport with my command, so I wouldn't feel right not talking to them about it. So, that's entirely on your I'll put it this way then for you. Officer Joe Gutierrez was fired after an internal investigation into Karen Nazario's arrest as he failed to follow department policy. Daniel Crocker remains employed. Nazario is seeking $1 million in damages, alleging both officers violated his Fourth Amendment rights. The next case was a struggle for control as tribal police officers clashed with jail officials over who had custody of a suspect. On December 18th, 2023, officers from the Lighthouse Police Department, a tribal law enforcement unit, stormed the Ulie County Jail to serve an arrest warrant on a non-native man they had previously taken into custody. However, they were met with strong resistance from jail officials. I'm not taking him with me. You guys are taking I'm not taking County Central, do not roll my pre-booking to sell the court door. Well, we can stay here all day. That's what we're going to do until you take him out of my building. I'm not taking You're the one committing crime. Not I'm not, sir. I have not accepted him in my facility yet. He's not in my tribal law enforcement officers typically handle cases involving tribal members. But in this situation, the suspect they were after was non-native, placing him outside their jurisdiction. Legally, custody fell under the authority of the sheriff's office. Despite this, the tribal officers continued to push forward with their attempt to take the suspect. [Music] open this. As the tribal officers continued their attempt to gain entry, jail staff stepped in and the situation quickly escalated into a chaotic confrontation. Are you somebody with little You got to put your hands on him. Don't put your hands on your hands on the captain. No. Come on. N out of my building, gentlemen. You're going to go with us. I promise. See, you put your hands on that's you put your hands on me first. My life is going too. They're refusing to take them. Yeah. We don't recognize that you already exist. State of Oklahoma. That's the only option. It is a director for saying the director of ple or the director of your jail. Hey, there's big difference there. Director of cleat. No. Or your jail. That's who determines it. this hell. The tribal officers eventually had to back down and leave the jail premises. However, the situation didn't end there. An arrest warrant was later issued for the jail staff, charging them with assaulting a law enforcement officer. In the next case, an officer accidentally struck his own partner. Hey, police department responded to an apartment to search for a suspect with an outstanding warrant. As they entered the house in search of the suspect, the officers found no one inside. However, they continued to search the home to ensure there was nobody else present. You want to grab your keys and we'll do that. So, that side door right there. She says he's not in there 100%. Hadn't seen him in a month. She told me at HQ that this chick's been calling in tips and he's here and she's and and she's let us in. And I just wanted somebody to come with me so I can officially document, hey, they're feuding today. I'm here. Now, all of a sudden, Re calls us here. If you if you don't mind when you unlock the door, if you don't if you just want to you can you're welcome to go in if you want to and check make sure your dog's locked up. But if your dog if you know your dog's locked up dark and scary but she I promise you as long as she ain't going to get out then we're good. Thank you. And absolutely nobody can be inside. Nobody else has a key. No. Okay, perfect. Well, she has a key. Well, I'm saying I want to make sure you're not going to get surprised. I know. Cool. While continuing their search of the apartment, Officer Sink instructed Officer Butler to keep an eye on a large dog that was confined in a cage. Lafayette Police Department. Anybody inside? Come out now. Make yourself known. Right. Check this kitchen. Hold left. Hey, watch that dog. Maybe you ought to hold there. Make sure you don't get out. Just starts getting out. Just put your foot up like that. It's okay. We're clear. I mean, let's check out Hey. [Applause] What happened? What happened? Medic. By that time, officer Aaron Wright entered the apartment. As he approached the dog cage, the dog reportedly knocked down the cage door. Wright quickly reached for the cage, but in the commotion, he accidentally struck Officer Butler. Do you have your taser out? Where are you? Where you shot? Hey, relax. Did you have your taser out? Where? Right here. Right here. Right here. Right here. Okay. Let me see. Babe, come here. Get her up there. Officer Butler was then assisted into the police vehicle and seated securely as they attempted to transport her to the hospital. Officer Butler soon recovered and was discharged from the hospital. The Lafayette Police Review Board concluded that the incident was accidental and officer Aaron Wright was not terminated as a result. The next case was driven by ego and the situation came dangerously close to spiraling out of control. You can get the out of my face. I don't give a who you are. On January 30th, 2024, a Lexington police officer spotted a vehicle speeding and initiated a traffic stop. But as he approached the driver, he was caught off guard by who was behind the wheel. [Music] Hello. I'm going to walk out. Okay, sir. This could you do an 85 and a 55? I was going out. Are we going? There's one call out right over here. I didn't know we had one. We have armed guy barricaded in the house. Used to be a police officer and right down here on here in Lexington. Yeah, we have an armed person, but we don't know about I'll call my chief and let him know. The driver caught speeding was none other than Cleveland County Sheriff Chris Amison, who was rushing to respond to a SWAT call. Surprisingly, the Lexington Police Department had not been informed of the situation, leading the officer to contact his chief for clarification. Just 4 minutes later, the officer arrived at the standoff scene, accompanied by Lexington Police Chief Ronnie Johnson. Chief Johnson, clearly frustrated at being left out of the loop, didn't hold back in expressing his anger. Where's Captain Tom? Got the hog. Excuse me, sir. Sir, we realize that I'd like to know what's going on in my own city. We would have notified you, sir. We would have. Yeah. I've been at the I've been down there at the PD call. Yeah. It says Mexico was notified. They refused to respond because Okay. I don't know who the first of all. I know the chief. I'm just telling you I don't appreciate I don't appreciate all of this going on and nobody know about. With tensions already running high because of the standoff, the Cleveland County deputies began to walk away. However, the Lexington police officer wearing the body camera wasn't done yet. Okay. I'm sorry. What was your name? Sir, I am too. That's right. You're not going to talk about truth like that, sir. That's not going to happen. You can get the out of my face. I don't give a who you are. This is my county, too. Back up, man. Back up. You don't see the You need to stop. Chill out. Back up. Everything's going to be okay. But you need to back up. You can back up. Negative. This right here. We're not going to be here. Sheriff, you need to back up out of my face, sir. You have no You're not going to tell me what to do. My You're not going to get in my sheriff's face. Just like you told me. Your hands off me. Back up. Pull him. Pull him back. My face said the same. Go to jail. Stop. Go to jail. Stop. You understand? Oh, yeah. Perfectly clear. Perfectly clear. Come on. Let's run that. I want that lieutenant's name so put his hands on me. Good. Now we recorded. Chief Johnson stepped in to pull his officer back while Sheriff Amison told them to leave. The situation didn't escalate any further, but it was clear that tension between the two agencies pointed to deeper unresolved issues.
