Don't resist. Freeze. On February 6th, 2022, reports of a man running nude through the streets led to a chaotic scene. Initially seen working out, he soon stripped completely, pulled a fire alarm, and grabbed a fire extinguisher, spraying it at bystanders. Don't resist. You got to walk Don't resist. Freeze. What are you doing, man? What? What are you doing? I was trying to get my purse. What'd you take? You take something? No, dude. I was going outside. You just what? Just went outside. All right. Can you get up? I was throwing away. Let me uh Face Face the other way. All right. When officers arrived, pedestrians had already pinned him down as he thrashed wildly. Officers quickly took control and detained him. One officer asked what had happened, and a witness confirmed being hit three times with a fire extinguisher. The suspect had thrown it down while being chased. Another person stated that the fire extinguisher was under the garage. All right. We're going to go over this car. Over here. Yeah, that's fine. No. All right. I'm sorry to laugh. Okay. Um Were you one of the guys that had him? That got him? Yeah, I mean I'm uh I I have no idea. Okay. Uh So, I made my post at this point. There was uh The fire alarm went off. Yeah. And at first I had people calling concerned about the false alarm and whatnot. So, What building This is building uh over here. The fire extinguisher Who actually saw him doing that? He hit me three times with a [ __ ] fire extinguisher. Can you hang out just one second for me? You two, can you both hang out for me? Where Where is I got it. Where Where's Where's that at? Fire extinguisher? The fire extinguisher is over there. He threw it, we started chasing him, and he threw it down. Okay. You just uh he's in my car. Are there some other witnesses there? I'm listening. Officer, there's some witnesses He usually came out of the building. Okay. Did he hit you with the Where three or four times. Where's that at? Oh, he just shot me in the face with it cuz he he went after a woman and I started chasing him. Can you show me where it at and tell me where it is that way I can grab it. Up under the garage. Oh, he's got the He's got the uh fire extinguisher. Oh, okay. So, he sprayed you in the face with it? Okay. You want to uh Okay. Okay. He sprayed a woman and a baby, too. Let me um This is not unusual for me. No. He had also gone after a woman, leading someone to chase him. One person explained that the suspect was acting as if it was a game, spraying people in the face. Eventually, four individuals managed to tackle him. A woman who lived with him mentioned that he had been showing signs of mania for weeks, not sleeping and speaking rapidly. She had suggested seeing a doctor multiple times, but he never went. That day, he left for a run, called her numerous times, and later said he was coming home. This is typical for me. All right, dude. What's your name? It's Brandon. Oh, that's my phone. I'm sorry for the Brandon what? Um Hey Sarah. Hi Brandon. Okay, you got to Oh, very well. Perfect. All right, back up for a second and then come back to me. Okay. Um what did he do? I think he's having All right, okay, you got to back up though. You got to back up though. I know. All right, but back up for a second and then let's come talk to me. Okay. Um What's the deal? I think that he's having a manic episode and I think he needs to go to the hospital. Okay, what's his what's his history? He's never had a been I've I've never been diagnosed. The last 2 weeks he's been having a lot of symptoms of mania, hasn't been sleeping, been more paranoid. Have you seen a doctor already? He's never seen a doctor for it. I've said a couple times that hey, we should go see a doctor. Hey, I think we should check this out. He hasn't. Today was obviously the breaking point. And what happened today? Like how did this how did it get to this no idea. He left this morning to go on a run. He called me numerous times on the run which is not normal for him at all. Kept asking what he should be doing. And then about an hour ago he called me and said, "I'm on my way home." Okay. He's only about 20 minutes away when he called me that and then Your fire alarm's going off and this is happening. Okay, um Th- this is only going to help him. It's not going to get him in trouble. Does he take anything? He does I he takes an SSRI for depression. Okay. And that's it. Any recreational drugs at all? No. Okay. Yeah, and I know that SSRI can actually trigger mania which I told him to stop those a while ago. know exactly what he takes? No. Did you take anything tonight? To be honest, I just went for a run outside. Um I was training for But that's naked. Girl. No, no. I was wearing in my Okay, so This sounds really groovy. Um let me let me ask you, did you take any drugs, dude? We Listen, you're not in trouble if you did. We just need to know. We're going to have fire department come and check you out. They're going to want to know if you took something. Tell them. Cuz this is not normal. Okay. Yes, sir. All right. I mean he takes Prozac, but I'm not 100% sure. I know it's in the SSRI family, like antidepressant family. live here? He lives in this building, yeah. Okay. I live with him. Were you home when he got home, or he was supposed to be headed home and just never did? No, I took the animals out onto the balcony to because of the fire alarm, and I saw him running down the street naked carrying the thing, and I immediately ran downstairs. So, what do you think? What can we tell them? So. Sir. Stick to something. I grew up poor, incredibly poor. I've been trying to help my family. You haven't answered the question if you're on something. I don't know what the best I I believe this. I went for a run. I've been running for 24 hours since I was a kid. So, you go for runs when you lose it when you lose it? Today, when I I mean, my my head is really weird. Do you like to run? Do you normally spray fire extinguishers on people? What do I do? Um, am I able to go with him to the hospital? No, at least not our route. You might be able to go down there in a little bit, but you won't be able to ride with him. No. What is the last four digits of your phone number? 8141. I know he has the credit card on him because when he ran by our door, he waved, "I have your card." Well, he might have until he got held down. We'll try to figure that part out. For fire alarms, you She has no idea how it got to this point, but Uh, only only during like Doing what? Like like pastoral No official diagnosis. Like the when there's an actual fire, like you see it. When officers questioned him, he denied taking any substances, but later admitted he might have taken Lexapro, an antidepressant. His girlfriend suspected it had triggered a manic episode. She saw him running with the extinguisher and immediately ran downstairs. A man asked why he had sprayed them, but the suspect continued spraying. Another witness explained that the suspect opened a garage door, pointed a fire extinguisher, and sprayed it without saying anything. Can I go grab him clothes before you guys leave? Can I go That'd be okay? Okay. Yeah, I'll Okay. I'll I'll grab him some shoes. I'll grab everything. Please wait. I'll be right back. What do you got? That's all right. I'll I'll pass it off. Well, it happened about 22 minutes ago. Okay. I was sitting at the desk. Um One of the uh one of the uh secretaries of the board member she uh I was coming out of the garage or because the fire alarm was going off at that point. So, I walk out. I'm on the phone with my uh supervisor at the point trying to figure out what's going on. She advises me that there's a guy running around the hallways naked. So, I'm running around the building trying to figure out where he's at. Eventually, once I finally saw him, I realized he was a resident. Try to run up, catch up with him, and then calm down. Once he starts spraying people with the [ __ ] hose I got you. I tried to chuck rocks at him at that point cuz like he's spraying people in their [ __ ] faces and all this other [ __ ] It's a game to him. You know what I mean? So, I I don't know what's going on from that point. Okay. But after running around the building one more time, we get him chased down over to this point over here. That's when there was at least four different guys. I wasn't touching him. You know what I mean? It's COVID. He's butt naked. I don't know what the [ __ ] he's got going on. He's finally uh All right. But he's at this point uh at this point they got him tackled down here by four different people. Um but they're also concerned about his dog. He's got a big brown dog. She took off with the dog. Okay. Um Yeah, that's a girlfriend. She's She's with him. But um or at least lives with him. She was not with him when this all occurred. She obviously came out cuz she saw it all. But um we're going to get him checked out by fire really fast to figure out what's if there's that portrait going on, and then we'll let you I don't rest of the story is on. Okay. I thought that was fine for her to do. Yeah, that's Yeah, that's fine. Here are some clothes for him. I'll take a peek at him real quick. I'm pretty From the sounds of it, we're going to sedate him. I'm not I'm not trying to Is this for you or someone else? That's his girlfriend. Do you mind if I just talk to her for a quick second and then I'll I'll get back with you? We understand a little bit of his history here. Um I think that he's having a bipolar episode. Um he's never been diagnosed with it before, but for the last like few weeks, he's been showing the symptoms of mania, not sleeping very much, pressured speech. Um today he was particularly odd today this morning, just couldn't get his thoughts straight, and kept asking what he should be doing. He went on a run like he always does on the weekends, and he called me multiple times during his run, which is not typical, asking where his car was, asking what he should be doing. Um and then about an hour ago, he called me and told me he was coming home. He was about 20 minutes away. The smoke made it hard to see, and when the witness ran outside, the suspect was running around again. He then apologized before spraying again. A different witness chased him after his wife was sprayed. While running, the suspect spoke to two men near a red car, asking if they were still going to Utah, and then continued running. An hour later, I see him running by on the street. He is definitely the person this has ever happened to. It sounds like things have escalated quickly and Yeah. It seems like you responded pretty well. I know this is probably a lot coming at you. Uh yeah, I mean, I'm in the medical field, so I see people with bipolar disorder and I was I've been telling him for the last couple weeks that he's having a manic episode and that he should take care. I don't mean to interrupt you. I'm working my way through a checklist in my head here. Yeah, go ahead. Ask the questions. Has he ever had to be sedated for an episode in the past? No, he This is his first episode. If it's okay with If it's okay with you guys, I'm going to try to just get him on the stretcher. Did you ask him if he has the card anymore by chance? He doesn't. He said he gave it to you. But I think that was his version of throwing it in there. Now, someone over here This female Yeah. I don't know if you know her, but she was talking about the card. I don't know if they gave it to her or she found it or Okay, I'll ask them. But give us just a minute, okay? Yeah, I don't I Anyways, I don't know where he took off his clothes. No, don't yet, but We're going to have you just step back just in case he spikes up again, okay? Okay. As soon as we get him secure, we'll we'll make sure he's taken care of, okay? I think my husband was in the middle of moving, and so he had to go back to the house to grab a pair of keys so we can go to dinner. And where were you at? I was in the stairwell on the third floor. This is where we live. A lot And I just wanted to get down and he opened the door. Like he like surprised us like He is in who? That guy. The naked guy. He opened the door from the parking garage. And like just like pointed the fire extinguisher So you opened it on the You're still on the third floor and there were people down and like he's like down here by the door and like opens it and just like sprays us in the Did he say anything when he did it or he just opened it and sprayed it? Opened it and sprayed. And I don't even know what happened. It was like so smoky in there. I couldn't really see. Did it get all over you? It was all over like It was all over us. I mean, I don't really know if it's safe to breathe it. Like I really am like I'm confused as to what happened right now. But and then we walked outside and I was just like following my husband and I see him. And I saw him outside again running around. Out here? Yeah, like in front of the building and and I like was like like hey, what why would you not to us what's wrong with you? And he still had all the Yeah, I just walked like it was literally like a second after. I was like screaming and probably cussing at him. I don't even know. I was just screaming. Understandable. Yeah, and then he like started charging at us again and I just like I came to out of the fire fire extinguisher and the stairs. And I'm standing on the street and he came out and he started spraying her and then I started screaming at him. He sprayed sprayed me. This is on the second floor? No, it's right in the parking lot right in front of the building. Right in front of the building? Okay, right in the parking garage? Another person saw him spraying everyone and hitting a glass door with the extinguisher causing people to back away. The suspect then ran across the street before finally being caught. While being strapped onto a stretcher, an officer asked where he had removed his clothes, but he refused to answer. All right, you're good to go. So what happens now? Uh a detective will come in contact with you. Okay. Did he say anything to you when he sprayed or he just sprayed you when he came running up? He was apologizing to her cuz she yelled at him and he said I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. And then he sprayed her again. That's about it. Then he when I chased him sprayed her twice? Yeah. Once once on once with the spray Once in the stairwell she said. And then once outside. Okay. That's when I shot his face. Okay. And then he sprayed me like three times. When I get close to him he'd shoot me right with the fire extinguisher. Now he did see somebody underneath and I couldn't tell cuz there was so much smoke. got him? Where we got him? 1:15 a.m. He was talking to somebody and asked him, "Are we still going to Utah?" Yeah. I don't know if they were random people, but he was gone. They were gone when I came back. You didn't know him? Yeah. So, you were down Were you down there already when he when he first sprayed your wife and Yeah, we had just walked out the building then he walks out and he had those scars already on him on his legs. Okay. And then the lady that you just interviewed, she yelled at him cuz I guess he sprayed her with the baby. Then he started apologizing and then he sprayed her again and then he sprayed my wife and that's when I started chasing him. Chased him. Okay. And then that's when he hits you three times Yeah, he ran I chased him back in up under the garage. Uh-huh. And on his way he ran behind a car and he there was two guys there with a trunk hatchback open. I think it was a red car and he said, "Are we still going to Utah?" And then I started chasing him again and then And he like instant mercy killing? Uh which which The one on Whiting Street. Um Was it to to the this building right here? Yeah, to the like he was walking towards you. Okay. And then he just like looked at me he was like, "Oh, I like your shirt." I was like, "What's happening?" And then he uh started getting chased by uh another guy that was around. Mhm. And then the other guy just like trapped him by the door he started spraying everyone and then around and then he was like I think he got the spray like three times. With the fire extinguisher? That's all. Okay. And then everyone just like backed off because of the guy kept on running so he ran towards my drive he ran back and then like he ran towards the garage. Okay. We don't want him to go back up there so yeah. That's what the guy I know I know it's going to sound crazy. My hands are behind my back. Yeah. So, can I just Yeah, just listen to me. And that's why we need to put you I We're climbing up So, the last But then after everything Okay, perfect. There you go. Awesome. Yeah.
