What you're about to see is body cam footage from Detective Weekly of the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office in Louisiana. I just now I'm just now finding out about what's happening and what's going on with my account. >> Is that somebody with you right there? >> Uh yeah, that's my mother. >> Oh, okay. >> Yeah, that's my mother. She had brought me here, cuz I'm trying to figure out what's going on with my account, as well. But, yeah, that I just left the the one that saw me. >> You went to get a debit card. So that's what I went to do and then that's when she told me that I needed to speak with someone from the risk department. So then I came here. >> Okay. >> So that's what I'm saying. If if if I had if I wanted to do anything for her, why why would I walk in here myself? That's That's pointless. But that's what I was here to clear I'm trying to figure out which risk or whatever is going on and what happened something about a $50,000 check was deposited into my account that I did not deposit. You can go ahead and stand up. >> I don't want to be arrested for something that I did not do. >> decision's already been made. >> Detective Weekly has heard enough. He's made his decision. He's placing Koby Ante Spain under arrest for attempted bank fraud. She's sitting down and refusing to comply. >> Go ahead and stand up. >> What am I being arrested for, though? >> Ms. Spain, please stand up. >> please like tell me what I'm being >> to ask you again. Please stand up, Ms. Spain. >> Sir. I will sign this. >> It's too late now. >> How is it too late? You didn't give ME A CHANCE TO TALK. >> RESIST. Do not pull away. >> This is where it gets physical. Spain refuses to stand, pulls away, and the struggle begins inside the bank lobby. Multiple officers will be needed to take her into custody. >> Sir, stop touching me. >> STOP PULLING AWAY. >> GIVE ME A CHANCE TO TALK. NO. STOP TOUCHING ME. >> MS. ALL RIGHT, well just go ahead. Just go ahead. Just go ahead. We going to figure it out. Just go ahead. Don't create any more trouble for yourself. >> 450. Do you have ID on you, ma'am? Nothing. It's going to be like Southwest? >> No, y'all y'all are good. >> Spain is finally in handcuffs and being walked out of the bank. Officers now turn their attention to the man who drove her here, Felton Charles. They believe he may be more involved than he's letting on. >> I have a nice big picture of the guy that deposited the check. >> I don't know if that guy out there is the one >> All right, that's >> That's what I was just trying to let >> That's what that's what I'm thinking. >> I'm not sure if >> Well, I printed out a big picture before I left the office. >> Yeah. That's what I thought he had was resemblance. That's what I was just saying to the girl looking at. >> Oh, there it is right here. >> Yeah, I want to know maybe >> Is it >> Yeah, I think that's him. >> Is this Donovan, the one I pulled up? >> Uh >> Can you write a point to him in there? >> Wait, what you mean Donovan, babe? >> Excuse me. She asked for a ride to the bank. I came brought her here and now y'all here. >> Well, uh a check was deposited into uh into her account. >> Yeah. >> And uh it's a fake check. So, would you like to give me a statement? >> Sheriff, what do you think we going to do? We don't know what's going on. I just told you she asked for a ride to get here. >> Well, I I I just I just told you what I'm currently investigating. >> Right. So, what do you What do you What do you What do you mean? You You're not telling me nothing. You saying you investigate something. I'm telling you I don't have nothing to do with this. I don't know what's going on. >> What's up? Southwest Louisiana Credit Union? Yeah. Colbiette resisted. Yeah. I'll call you back in a little bit. Mr. Charles, do you want to give me a statement or >> I gave you a statement. She asked for a ride to the bank. >> That's That's not That's not what my statement's going to be about. I just told you a a counterfeit check was deposited in her >> nothing to do with that. Do Do Does Does my name on there? Does my name Is my name on there anything? I don't have nothing to do with that. Wait. >> Brooke. >> Wait, what about that? Let me see that. >> Is that you? >> No, that ain't me. >> It looks like you. >> No, it ain't. Well, do what you want to do. Come on. Come on. Come on. Come on. Come on. Let's ride. Let's ride. >> No, no, I'm I'm not >> I don't have time for this. You keep on asking me something. I'm telling you she asked for a ride to the bank. I came gave her a ride to the bank. How many statements you want me to give you? >> No, I'm yelling cuz he's pissing me off. You keep on asking me the same thing over and over and over. >> Hey, ask him if he wants if he want to talk to him about a case he's working. >> I don't know nothing about a case. She asked me to give him a statement. >> him about? For what? I don't know nothing. I just told him what I know. >> I'll tell I'll tell you I'll tell you what this is. >> to do I want to give him a statement. I just gave him a statement. She asked for a ride to the bank. I can't even remember. >> Mr. Charles, Mr. Charles, I'll tell you what. This is This is what we'll do. I'll give you a card with a phone number and the case number on it. If you decide you want to give me a statement about that check being deposited in her account, you can give me a call, okay? >> You got nothing to talk about. You're pissing me off. You keep on You You're trying to manipulate me right now. That's what you're really trying to do. >> No. All I did was ask if you wanted a statement. >> I got it. >> I don't know nothing. You keep on asking me about the check in her name. >> He may have questions that you could answer, but he can't ask those questions until after you consent to talk to him. >> I'll tell you what. If you decide you want to give me a statement concerning that check, you give me a call, okay? >> Give us some water. >> You identified him? You got a date of birth? >> No. >> Mr. Mr. Charles, can I get your date of birth, please? >> 8 22 82. >> 8 22 82. Thank you. Sir, you have a good day. I'm waiting for my evidence guys to get up here so they could take some pictures of me. >> guy is that him or not? >> I believe so. >> Cuz it had braids in the hair. It had braids in the hair. And that's the mama over there sitting there. >> I I believe it is him. He He gave me his name. He does >> It had braids He had braids on the picture. I think that's him. >> He keeps saying he doesn't want to give me a statement. So, Kobe Ante resisted. So, I tried to get a statement from her. She pushed the uh >> Mute off. >> Looking at what, though? We're trying to figure out what's going on. >> You want to be ugly? >> I'm not trying to be ugly, sir. I'm just trying to figure out what's going on. Like, I really don't know what's going on. Like, I really don't. Okay. >> You're under investigation for bank fraud. >> Okay. I don't do bank fraud. >> So, you're under investigation for bank fraud. >> I'm a victim. her at the bank. That's my daughter. Yes, ma'am. She tricked me this morning. She tricked me this morning and I didn't think I could give her a ride to the bank. She didn't have another ride. She got a new bank card. This is all I did. >> Mute off. >> I know they they have her in the sheet. So, I'm going to go let them know that they could go. >> Ma'am. >> Yes. >> Y'all are free to go. Just letting y'all know that tire is low. >> Okay. >> I don't want y'all to have a blowout or something. >> Oh, girl. >> All right. >> So, so you're going to be at the office where she's going? >> I'm going to do my paperwork and she's going to be booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center at 54 10th Street. >> you. All right. >> It's it's it's part of the job. I I completely understand. It shouldn't have happened. Um but I I understand the position she was in. >> but the way he talked to me when I was trying to figure out like he was just saying I was interrupting but I really I guess he was just it was all a part of it. >> With Spain secured and Charles questioned, Detective Weekly debriefs the mother outside the bank. He explains exactly what her daughter is being charged with and why the arrest was unavoidable. >> I've been doing this job for 10 11 years now. Usually whenever a family member comes in and sees a a cop talking to their their their family member like a daughter and they come and interrupt I I'd I'd like to be as respectful as possible but her being an adult it's nobody else's business. If she wants to tell you after I'm done talking to her, that's that's her decision. Uh but I'm I'm also not going to I I can't be having people interrupt and I need I'm I'll be honest, I didn't even like having the bank employees in there. Because people whenever they're listening to whenever I'm getting a statement, they tend to start interrupting and that affects my statement. I didn't like having them in there but the bank is the victim on this case. >> Okay. >> So, uh you know, they've got information that they are they might be able to clarify information. So, it was kind of a lot easier to have them in there while I tried to interview her. She didn't want to give me a statement. She did not want to go to jail. Uh I mean I I've I've got the evidence. I've got I've got the probable cause to book her. So, she she's going to be booked in for the attempted bank fraud uh and then also the uh resisting force of violence uh for whenever I went to go detain her. So, uh it's part of the job. It shouldn't be. I hate that it is. I hate that anyone, you know, gets put in that position. But, um you know, it it it is what it is. I don't I don't hold it against you. I don't hold it against uh Ms. Felton there. Uh I That was a decision Koby Ante made herself. >> Yes. >> So, uh unfortunately, so she's going to bond out on on those two charges whenever bonds get set. I'm not sure when that's going to be set. It's going to be a few hours. So, there's no there's no sense in going to sit up there and waiting. Uh once she's booked in, they'll give you they'll allow her to make a phone call and she can call whoever it is that she would like. Or you you could probably call up there this afternoon about 5:00, 6:00. I I believe she should have a bond set by then. I can't make any promises cuz it's up to the judge when the judge gets to it, but I believe she'll have a bond set by then. >> Okay. Thank you. >> Yes, ma'am. I appreciate your help. >> Oh, yeah. No doubt. No doubt. >> Deputies bring Ms. Spain into the interrogation room for further questioning, but even with the pressure building, she continues to deny any wrongdoing and insists she's innocent. >> Everything that I know about it, all these different people. I don't have no reason to lie. >> Well, that's what we're standing down for. >> anything to do with that check. I didn't write my name. I didn't put my signature on anything. You you got the picture right there. You don't see me nowhere near my bank. I didn't call. I didn't do nothing to try to get no [snorts] check cleared. No, none of that. >> All right, can you go ahead and stand up for me? >> Ms. Spain, but so I will speak with the detective and I will basically speak with my entire little detective unit and uh it was kind of the decision was kind of made mutually um that >> But, why? Because of >> for the bank fraud and battery on police officer. >> Because I fought the police officer, but he hit me first. And they have camera footage. He was wrestling with me and >> I understand that. >> pulling on me first. >> Miss Payne, you'll you'll have an opportunity to defend yourself in court. But for right now, today, please stand up. Place your hands behind your >> Am I going to get a phone call or something? Can I call someone and tell someone where I'm going? >> will get a phone call once you're booked into jail. >> And do Am I going to get a bond or anything? >> Yes, you you bond by law. We have to get a a 48-hour warrant to a judge. You'll have a bond within 48 hours, but you will probably have a bond by, I'd say, 6:00 today. Okay, honestly, I um that's no absolute guarantee, but more but but it's not unrealistic either. Miss Payne, please stand up and turn around. >> Miss Payne seems to believe that giving deputies information about the people connected to the check will somehow separate her from the situation completely, but that's not exactly how this works. Providing names and details may help investigators, but it doesn't automatically erase her own involvement. And at this point, it looks like Miss Payne may have thought cooperation was her way out of trouble. >> Okay, I got to hold on. Before I stand up, I'm about to stand up. I'm not resisting arrest or none of that. What So, what was the point in me giving you all of this information just for you to still pinning on me, and I'm sitting here telling you honest with you, showing you You pulling up all these people's pictures that I'm showing you. You You know all of this information about these people, and you getting me to tell you the information, and you still going to say that I'm involved in this? Like what Okay, why though? What evidence do you have of me being involved? >> Counterfeit checks being deposited. >> I didn't deposit the check, though. >> it. That's fine. >> I didn't do it. >> Miss Payne, I'm not going to debate this with you. >> And you know I didn't do it. You see that I didn't do it. You just showed me his picture. You didn't see me nowhere near this. >> Spain, I'm not going to debate that with you. Please stand up and place your hands behind your back. >> [ __ ] that don't make no sense. And no, I don't give y'all permission to go through none of my stuff. We're going to take this to court. I just told y'all I didn't have anything to do with it. I gave you this man's information. You really think it's like what? Be for real. Some [ __ ] >> Uh hold on just 1 second. I'll be All right. Was it straight out this door? >> Yes, straight out to the left. >> Okay. >> And am I getting my property? >> I believe that's all going to be put into evidence, ma'am. >> Why is my stuff in evidence? I need my property to get numbers out of my phone. >> Well, your phone is going to go into evidence, so I believe the detective's going to get a search warrant to go through it. >> Well, then I'm not giving them consent, so. >> Spain was ultimately arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center. She now faces charges of resisting arrest with force and attempted bank fraud. So, what started as her trying to explain her way out of the situation ended with deputies deciding they had enough to move forward with an arrest.
