these are the moments that shake your faith in the very institutions that meant to protect us the moments when the lines between law enforcement and brutality blur and the innocent become victims of aggression are you doing what are you doing stop sit up pull her just pull her I am a child of [ __ ] you're being detained now for cooperation what cooperation of Investigation all me that's I'm I'm coming I'm I'm starting with a case Ed Deputy Christopher krickovich on April 19th 2019 a disturbing incident involving police and a 15-year-old high school student in tamak Florida led to accusations of police brutality [Applause] oh what are you doing what are you doing he's bleeding the video which quickly circulated on social media shows a chaotic scene one Deputy pepper sprays a 15-year-old boy in the face as he appears to step forward possibly to defend another teen who was already restrained are you doing what are you doing he's bleeding bleeding bleeding he's bleeding the officer then aggressively pushes the boy in the red tank top to the ground where he is held face down as onlookers shout an alarm a Second Officer joins in pressing down on the boy's back and forcefully slamming his forehead into the pavement two or three times doing what are you doing he's bleeding bleeding [Applause] bleeding he then delivers a punch to the side of the boy's head with a closed fist a still image later shared online reveals the 15-year-old sitting on the ground his hands cuffed behind his back with blood visible on one side of his face following the encounter the boy was taken to Coral Springs Medical Center to receive medical attention for his injuries he was subsequently arrested on several charges including assault on a law enforcement officer resisting arrest without violence and trespassing the incident sparked widespread public outrage impr prompted an internal investigation by the Broward sheriff's office with spokesperson V right confirming that the deputy's conduct was under review if you thought that was bad this is because you didn't know about this next case where a 9-year-old girl was pepper sprayed by cops on January 29th 2021 a disturbing incident unfolded in Rochester New York that would draw intense scrutiny and ignite widespread outrage a tense and painful scene involving a 9-year-old girl who was forcefully detained by Rochester Police Officers after they respond resped to a domestic home this is your car yeah then the other one is mine too it's all in my name if my so it's registered to you registered everything to me DMV everything to me okay but sometimes he driv yeah this one too he and you guys live together uh stay I'm pregnant so yeah on and off all right what was the deal today why do you why why did you call when you left with the car um I actually I called before did yeah let me show you though what time did you call fight we were fighting as the officers attempt to escort the young girl toward their squad car her distress quickly intensifies despite her tearful pleas the officers order her to calm down urging her to take a breath and stop resisting to him I've been you guys don't even understand this [ __ ] will climb in my house he will break into my house I'm not a police person I'm already on probation I did this [ __ ] I'm so like I try not to but I have it's like I got to call you guys once more cuz he won't stop I want my truck back he already has a warrant when she goes to jail I'm getting an order of protection on him so he doesn't come back you could do that now but her cries only grow louder as she fights to avoid being placed in the police vehicle the standoff continues until a female officer delivers a stark warning telling the child that if she doesn't comply she'll be pepper sprayed all right I'll put that out all right please though how long is it like how how long I he's kind of [ __ ] my car up as soon as I as soon as I put it out it'll go to every city okay okay cool whether or not we see it and stop it you know I mean that's are you guys going to run every Mercedes-Benz though right like when you guys see the Mercedes Benz okay yeah I just I just want I just want finally one officer pulls out a canister of pepper spray and uses it on the child leading her to scream in pain and further trauma the girl is eventually placed into the squad car and later transported to the hospital where received medical attention before being released to her family no I want my dad you're not going to run off I want my [Music] dad stop I want my dad I'm in old car I want myad I want myad stop oh my go okay okay wait my mom she's pregnant however the footage has been met with shock and criticism from both the public and law enforcement officials alike Rochester's police chief publicly condemned the officer's actions stating I'm not going to stand here and tell you that for a 9-year-old to have to be pepper sprayed is okay it's not yeah 3823 did you just call stop sit stop acing like the am a child the [ __ ] where's the mom at M just went back to [Music] the stand up stand up you got to get up come on stop messing around come on I off Hey listen if you don't get in you're retired LAPD Sergeant Cheryl dorsy expressed her disapproval the incident has spurred conversations on the necessary limits of force especially involving children get in the [Music] car you got a rig stage IPP the involved officers faced multiple charges including excessive use of force and violation of protocol leading to further investigations into police conduct and policies when dealing with minors but wait for this next case where cop pepper spraying teenage girl on September 18th 2016 a troubling encounter between hagertown maryn police officers and a 15-year-old girl unfolded following a minor bicycle accident the girl whose bicycle reportedly collided with a car soon found herself at odds with the responding [Music] [Applause] officers on good here grabbing back car was coming through the intersection she hit side of car she doesn't want to be treated say she's not injured that's basically it but he's hung around to make sure everything's okay so grab her information real quick I'll grab his however the interaction took a sharp turn when the teenager refused to cooperate with the police igniting a tense confrontation officer's body camera later resumed capturing the encounter revealing that officer were struggling to keep control of the situation as the girl resisted and declined to comply with their requests come here don't me listen Hey listen w't make it worse than what it really is ha call [ __ ] parents yeah we are calling your parents off you're being detained now for corpor for what for cooperation of Investigation all for [Applause] me now now hand the police captain Paul Kyer addressed the officer's actions he explained that due to the girl's refusal to provide information on the accident or accept Medical Care she could legally be detained a common procedure even for adults in similar cases mom get off of me back get back just back up man seriously just back up you let that you let that Badge go to your head man you let that badge stop stop for no reason then then turn then turn around put your hands behind your back you're being detained you're being detain right now F get that hard ass [ __ ] off [ __ ] y'all get that [ __ ] off of me get off stop stop stop stop stop Kyer also highlighted the Department's protocol in dealing with individuals who resist cooperation in a traffic investigation further stressing that the girl's uncooperative Behavior made it chenging for the officers to complete their duties as the girl continued to resist officers decided to use pepper spray to subdue her and place her in their Cruiser ultimately she was taken to the police station and subsequently released to her [Applause] family stop okay what's your what's your phone number take a seat listen what's your name hey what's your name 15 to1 you want to start down here what's your name give my shoe what's your name the teenagers family hired attorney Robin ficker who argued that the officer's actions were excessive and unnecessary pointing out out that the girl sustained sprained muscles and soreness from her detainment ficker contended that the police should have taken her to a hospital rather than using [Applause] Force [Applause] get by [Applause] I got you [ __ ] stop I calm down calm down I want calm down I want ultimately the charges faced by the 15-year-old include disorderly conduct second degree assault possession of marijuana and failure to obey a traffic device meanwhile the officers involved remain on duty as the department conducts an internal investigation to review the incident and determine whether proper protocols were followed if you thought that was bad this is because you didn't know about this next case on February 19th 2024 a distressing encounter unfolded between a 14-year-old boy and a Columbus Ohio police officer leading to public outcry and eventually the officer's dismissal the boy visibly distressed repeatedly apologizes your hands behind your back hands behind your back hands your back s your back you hear my face Hands by your back please I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry you can right here wait please don't do it that that's tight despite his attempts to communicate the officer dismisses the teen's complaints continuing to apply Force as the officer attempts to search the teen he questions the boy about possessing a weapon you can sit right here and wait please don't do it that that's tight that's TI that's I'm I'm coming I'm I'm coming I'm compling you move I will break your face okay I'm sorry you understand meard I'm bed however the officer remains skeptical intensifying his grip and warning the teen against resisting or attempting to flee at one point the officer demands the boy to separate his feet threatening to charge him with a felony if if he resists in any way you're under arrest tell you stop you get run it wasn't that serious bro it is now all right it is now dang you didn't have to do my face like that you can shut down throughout the ordeal the teen expresses concern for his belongings other officers present attempt to calm the boy at one point the boy's frustration and physical discomfort become apparent as he notes that his face was hurt during the takedown the officer however dismisses his complaints prioritizing maintaining control and frequently reiterating that the teen had tried to run away which he claims justifies the physical Force being used all right and get some gloves cuz you're covered in blood you got AIDS no hey look at me look at me if you spit or anything I'm charging you the felony you understand I'm not trying to spit you got I got blood in my mouth I hey all right no cussing chill separate your feet look at me like a man chill no you just Botho put your hands on me can go grab my stuff we'll get your stuff just listen to him focus on this for right now focus on this just listen what he's saying okay amidst the chaos the officer also questions the boy about blood on his face even asking if he has any communicable diseases the teen now visibly upset insists that he is not attempting to resist and only wants to avoid further injury he pleads with the officer to transfer him to another squad car stating I do not want to go with this officer I don't trust him oh yeah your son your son oh my D your son bring my let me help you here buddy let me get those cups on cuz you're all right look the officer rejects his requests informing him that this is not how it works this prolonged exchange ultimately attracted significant media attention leading to public backlash and an internal investigation by the Columbus Police Department the department determined that the officer's use of force was unwarranted and that his handling of the situation violated protocol as a result
