All right, he's about 70 miles an hour in the hammer lane going into Holloway. In Columbus, Ohio, deputies with the Franklin County Sheriff's Office worked in coordination with Columbus Police Department officers and their helicopter to track 43-year-old Andrew Teague. [music] >> Doing a U-turn now. Oh, about cars to five. Teague was on parole and had a warrant out for his arrest in reference to an incident a month prior where he threatened [music] to kill his brother's family, including the children, and fired multiple rounds into his house. For the next month, Teague eluded investigators, even successfully fleeing from a traffic stop to avoid arrest. He's got me screwed here. I'm going to turn tight. S17, if we're not having any luck catching up to him, let's back off. 10 days later, on March 5th, 2021, Teague threatened to [music] kill his girlfriend and her 16-year-old son. A ping from Teague's cell phone led detectives [music] to a previously unknown female associate. As investigators arrived to the associate's apartment, they observed [music] Teague driving off in an unfamiliar vehicle. Franklin County's helicopter moved in for the pursuit [music] and tailed him for almost an hour, but they still had no idea the desperate measures Teague would use to avoid capture. Copy, he's uh in the hammer lane now. He's picking up speed. Probably about 80 right now. Approaching the Walk Bridge. Ma'am, was Andrew staying here? >> Yeah, he was over here probably. Did he call you? Cuz he's in a vehicle pursuit now. We saw him walk out. I was >> [sighs and gasps] >> really trying to like figure out how we could do this without without all this. Is that what I I got his number. That's how we found him here. Oh. We've been tracking him. Right when he turned his phone on, we knew he was here. Oh. He just stays with me on the weekend. >> Yeah, I totally get it. I I mean I totally You're And you're not doing anything wrong. You're doing absolutely nothing wrong. It's just He's got this thing in his head where he cannot conform to I'm aware of it. >> this normalcy. I Because this normalcy to him is now ab- abnormal. I I'm a mobile I used to be a mobile crisis worker. Okay, cool. Just to be advised, there's a uh accident blocking the left two lanes downtown. So he Yeah, he almost he got like on 23, so He may not have been coming back here. He tried to, but then he flipped on 23, went back on 270. Did he flip my car? No. Everything is fine so far. Looking like a westbound turn on Fifth Avenue from Joyce, normal speeds. We don't have any legal reason or means to hold you, so. Okay. Um just be careful. THERE'S THE victim car he hit head-on way down here. I don't know if anybody's got out of it or not. We haven't seen any movement out of that other victim 5A vehicle. You got gloves on? Grab them. Let me put some gloves on. I fired. Are you good? >> Yeah, I'm good. There's no pulse. He's got one in the head. There's nothing I'm just documenting. We can't give him first aid. I know that they said that they were involved in a shooting and they were giving first aid to the suspect. Camera's on. That's on copy. I'm hot. Start CPR. I got him. I got him, Mike. Radio, suspect is secure right now. We have officers tending to him, multiple officers. Freeway is shut down. As soon as we started running up Yeah, I know. He shot at us. Yeah. As we were coming through, as we heard the pops, I [laughter] think it might have been from you on the other side. I couldn't see him cuz I saw him look like he was trying to carjack somebody. They said they have no idea, but there's no movement. The car that he hit. Was he by himself in the car? Yeah, it looked like it. Oh, we've got several hurt. Should have ended this an hour ago. Rather have a car crash than a shootout. And we'll probably need a couple more 24s. 10-4, copy. 1270 at Hamilton. Yes, this will be for the uh uh driver of the five. I know you're probably terrified. Are you okay? You okay? Okay. You're not hurt or anything? Okay. Did you see everything? Okay. You mind sitting here and waiting? Okay. You okay? Okay. All right. Anyway? Anyway you would have approached him. And he was Yeah, he was waving a gun while he was driving. I should have looked to see what the hell it was. I Do me a favor. So, will you have a seat in your car? Okay. Relax. >> Being ordered to have a seat in my car by Sergeant A91. Camera is on. Worst case, we could I mean, if they feel a need for it, we can get him a warm one, but if they can stabilize him, it's their call. I need to sit and cry and process. Yep, and then you You can call me anytime. They wouldn't be able to do CPR in the back seat of this. So, one of us, if we could lay it and squat straddle him. You know what I mean? And put him on the bench. Just if you can text me an update, I would like to know about the poor people in the car. I mean, I can't tell if the car's totaled. >> I know that the last I heard they said 90 on 270 in the wrong going the wrong way. Chopper, your medics are coming in from the south in the hammer lane. I mean, it's still an option if he's critical and they need to get him there. Seven is uh Is there anybody injured in the vehicle seat? Up there, there's major injury up there. Um it's situations like this where I think could we have done it differently? I mean, we've been looking for him since February 2nd. And it's been like this. It's been like we've been within 200 m and then poof, he squirts on us and he fled from Yeah. Yeah, he definitely was. He fled from Blendon Township 2 weeks ago doing 90 mph on the inner city streets. Yeah, we were trying to set up stop sticks and he stopped just uh south of Broad Street was whole way obviously. And we were getting out to do a felony stop and he That's when he went in the opposite direction. So, we backed off, turned our lights off, and there was nowhere for us to turn around until right here. And that's when he pulled forward. 141 Copy. Madison Township 181 pronounced at 6:01. Copy Madison Township. 43-year-old Andrew Teague was pronounced dead at the scene, and an autopsy later revealed that he suffered gunshot wounds to the head, trunk, [music] and right arm. A toxicology report indicated that Teague did not test positive for any drugs in his system, though a bag of white powder and another bag containing a green leafy substance were found in his pockets. Officers quickly located a .40 caliber Smith & Wesson near his body, which Deputy [music] Severance had kicked from his hand during the arrest. Investigators discovered two casings [music] covered by traffic cones in this photo next to the vehicle Teague was driving. Both matched Teague's firearm, suggesting [music] that Teague fired immediately after exiting the wrecked vehicle. The fact that there were unspent rounds in Teague's firearm, and that Officer Keifer reported to see him rack the slide back, suggests that Teague's firearm may have jammed. According to the Franklin County Prosecutor's Office, a grand jury declined to indict any officer for any wrongdoing. Thankfully, the driver of the black Honda survived the collision with minor injuries. A subsequent interview of Teague's childhood friend further illustrated his state of mind leading up to the shooting. I knew for the past couple days he's been more agitated. And I don't want to say paranoid, hyper-vigilant is what I'll use cuz it's not psychotic, so it's not paranoia. He'd been like he was always constantly looking out the window or looking out my window. >> Mhm. Which, you know, I do too cuz I'm nosy, but it it felt different with him. He He didn't say these verbatim, but he said, "I There's no way out of this. I don't know any other way out of it." He mentioned wanting to harm you. Okay. Um and he said something like, "I'm going to go out in a blaze and I might take some extra time off and try to Definitely. figure this one out. Take care of number one first. Make Make sure your mind's right. Uh you can call or text me anytime. If I'm awake, I'll pick up the phone or text back. If I'm not awake, I'll text you back as soon as I can.
