It was April 28th, 2021. Deputies in Colorado were called to a quiet home on a dirt road. Neighbors reported strange smells and a child living inside. As officers pushed open the front door, a wave of rot and mildew slammed into them. The house was dim. Heavy curtains blocked out the light. They moved down narrow hallways, each step crunching on littered debris. Then a closet door. Inside they found her. A mummified corpse wrapped tightly in a sleeping bag. Her face caked in silver and blue glitter. Her body tangled in twinkling Christmas lights. Her skin shrunken stretched over bone. It was Amy Carlson, cult leader of Love Has One. Her followers lived around her decomposing body for weeks, praying, worshiping, pretending she was still alive. And trapped inside that same nightmare was a terrified child. Evil doesn't always hide in the shadows.
