And then what happened? >> It just was misunderstanding like the shift that I I would take and everything. It just We go just a misunderstanding. >> Explain the misunderstanding to me. >> I'm sorry for calling you. It's something that we can handle ourselves. I think I was just so temped and everything, so >> I understand. You did the right thing by calling us. >> No, it's not something I was not supposed to even call because it's something that we can handle. I was just so mad. I was so angry, so I believe if something else happens, I will get to the authorities and everything. So, for now it's >> Is that your current address? >> Yes. >> Okay. How long have you been married? >> Married for almost 8 years. >> 8 years? Do you have any kids? >> Yeah, we have two kids. >> Both are Okay. I will I will I will Everything is okay because he was apologizing. I was the one that was just so angry, so it has never happened. It was that I was just so temped. We we it. In case of anything, I'll get back to the authorities. >> Okay. I get it. It doesn't work that way here. It doesn't work that way. I have to investigate it. I have to. >> No, it's nothing. I was just so angry. I provoked everything. Please, I'm sorry that I had to call and I was supposed to call. >> don't be Don't be sorry. And you are supposed to call. Your husband's not supposed to hit you, no matter what you say to him. >> I started everything. >> What did you say to him? >> No, he told me that he was He has been struggling to look for a job and because he's working and he said the shift that I was supposed to take that I should not take a shift that would be detrimental to the kids. So, I was so angry and so frustrated because I've been looking for a job for a very long time. So, >> Sure. And what did you say to him? >> I just told him that he's like he's just selfish and self-centered. So, it it just escalated like >> And then how did he hit you? >> No, when he When he told me that I should I should stop disrespecting him and everything. I told him that he should not insult me and everything. >> So, did he hit you with a Did he punch you? He just slapped? Which hand did he use? >> I don't really know the hand. >> Was he in the driver's seat of the car? And you're in the passenger seat? Reach over and just smack you in the mouth? Is Is that what happened? >> Yes. >> Did he do it one time or more than one? >> No, it was just one and he was apologizing and regretting. Now, we handle this together as a family. >> You got it. Tell me. >> Please, I just want us to handle it as a family. >> You can handle it as a family, but I [snorts] have to I have to do a report. >> That was all that that is all that that happened. We can handle it. And please, I'll get back to you. I don't want anything to escalate because my kids are involved and everything. So, I don't want anything to go out of hand. >> I have to check with him and make sure that what you're saying is matches up with what he says. >> I can call him if you want. >> I need his phone number and I need his name. >> Should I call you? >> You listen, so this is how it works. We have to follow up. We have to make contact with him. Cuz we have to find out if he could have left the scene and you could have bloody him up. We have to follow through. So, we're This isn't going to stop until you give us the information that we need. It's very simple. We we We're we're obligated to follow up and make sure that he's safe and you're safe. >> Yeah, that's fine. Yeah, I'll tell you what. Grab a seat. I'm going to close the door. I want to have to start doing a little bit of paperwork. All right. Do you live in a house or an apartment or a condo? You live in an apartment? Uh Ryan asked me. Yep. >> John. John? >> Yes. Officer Bear. John Bear. Call me. Make sure there's nobody in here. All right. So, um you know what I'm trying why I wanted to talk to you. I'm sure. >> I hope I didn't do anything. >> Okay. >> I hope I didn't do anything. >> Before we get into that, I'm just going to let you know, okay? Before I ask any rights, you must understand your rights. Before I ask any questions, you must understand your rights. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used against you in court. You have the right to talk to a lawyer before we ask any questions and to have a lawyer with you during questioning. If you cannot afford a lawyer, one will be appointed for you before any questioning if you wish. If you decide to answer questions now without a lawyer present, you will still have the right to stop answering at any time. You also have the right to stop answering at any time until you talk to a lawyer. Does that make sense? >> Mhm. >> Cool. You okay with answering some of my questions? >> Mhm. >> All right, great. I can get you to sign right there and then print your name up there for me. Um All right. What happened today? >> To the with >> With your with your wife. >> Um We have been trying to to look for job for some couple of time with her. We come here I do two job. I do second shift and I do night which I come in the morning when the kids have gone to school. So I take care of all the bills. So I we went to look for the job. They they said there is part-time second shift, full-time first shift. >> Okay. >> First shift start at 7:00. >> Okay. >> So he stayed there like 1 hour. I was in my car. When he came out he told me I said, "Okay, you have been since you came you have not worked but I will see try and taking care of the family. But I prefer give preference to the kids first. Take the second shift first like part-time so you can make sure and prepare when the kids since I do two job prepare the kids to to go to school." That is where the problem started. >> I understand. >> That is just all. He said that is where they said I don't want her to work. He wants to he must take the first shift. That is where everything started. >> So you want you wanted her to work second shift >> Yes. >> so that she could keep first shift free to take get the kids off to school. >> Well, yeah because I do I sleep at work at night come back sometime 9:00 the kids have gone. So if you do first shift 7:00 then I sleep at work. Who is going to take care of the kids? >> Okay. Yeah. No, that makes sense. >> It does. Women it he is listening a lot from me. I don't know he she was not like that though. She used to listen everything I said. But now when I say he say no he must do the first shift. I don't want her to work. I said, "I don't want you out. Do the second shift. I'm working two job. I'm paying the house rent, paying her feeding, laundry, everything I does for the family. Take care of the kids but give preference to the kid because kids if the kids we don't if they go out of track we have lost everything we work for. Our priority is the the kid. He say he must do the two job. We started argument from there. He said, "I don't want her to work." blah blah blah. He say he to I want to leave the car. He's not following me again." Because The reason I even took her because I told this car is my first car. I gave you this I gave her this car. So, he parked on the wrong place. >> So, so which car did you take? >> I went to remove the car that he's driving. >> But, what car were you guys in today? >> My own car. >> Which one's that? >> Yeah, Toyota rough rough >> Okay. Is it a blue one? >> Blue. >> Okay. >> Mhm. Blue. So, I he should he would have come with our own car. But, since he didn't have car, I left work. I slept at work this night. Came in the morning. Then he had her appointment at 12. I had to take her to the appointment before I had to start work. Take her to the appointment to bring her back before we go and get this car. So, that is where all the the little problem start. >> Okay. And then describe the problem for me. What what happened? >> Um we left the place. I said, "You can't If you do this, you will affect I've not asked you any support for now. Just make sure because this is me, my first daughter. He has honor and achievement. I don't play with education. This is me with So, this one goes six. The other one goes There's no way you can work second shift. Please take the You can work take the second shift." He said, "I'll not He will take He will come and take the first shift." I said, "No, you can't take the first shift." He said, "It's not going where you want to drop." I should take her out of He He want to go out when the car was even rolling. He opened the door. I pulled the door back. That is just all. Then after I break, he left. Then I went >> Um how did she get a bloody lip? >> When he want to open the door he want to move out from the door. I don't really figure out, but when he want to move out from the door, he hit himself on the on the door, the lock. That is all. So, but then I send my hand to pull the the door back. She's outside. >> I understand. >> Yeah, I'll talk to her in a minute. >> Yeah. >> I need you to stand up for me. Stand up. >> I didn't touch her, officer. >> She said She said you did. >> No, ask her. NO, SHE'S LYING. HOW CAN you take her word? Sir, she's lying, I didn't touch her. >> Stand up. Turn around. >> I didn't touch her. >> Turn around. >> Look, you're taking this wet over my word. >> Because? Because here why why why should I believe you over her? >> Okay, so who is She herself said that he was >> Okay. Here's your husband's stuff. Your husband's been arrested. Your husband's going to go to the Franklin County Jail. He's going to be charged with domestic violence and assault. Okay. Yes, ma'am. I'm sorry? >> Well, I wanted to talk to you. >> Okay. What's going on? >> My husband is an innocent person. He has never ever committed any crime ever before. Like he is the breadwinner. We have two children. I don't know how we want to start. Yes, I was I was angry. I said things that were not true. I said things that were not true, but you can't poison an innocent person and stain his record. If you go to the file, you will see that he does not even have any record of sorts. >> I'm looking at your face. >> I hit I I didn't hit him. >> side of your lip is swollen and it was cut. >> Yes, actually. >> you told me your husband did it. >> At first I said a lie when I called on the phone. I said a lie, but he did not hit me. He has never for once ever hit me. I don't know maybe I lied maybe you can prosecute me for that. Yes, but he's innocent. We have our children. We have our children. Please I'm I'm I believe I'm the I'm the one in charge. I'm the one like I don't know how how I can put it, but he's innocent. How will those children cope? I believe this country is out to help kids. How will those kids cope? He's the breadwinner. I don't I don't even have something substantial that I said I can stand for the family. He's innocent. And I don't want this I don't want him to be persecuted over thing that he didn't do. I don't want him to face his record to be stained and everything. His life is going down for something that he didn't do. You can go through the system. He has been here for almost 5 years. Nothing of such has ever happened. For 8 years we are married, he has never for once hit me. Please, I don't want him to be jailed. >> I understand. Everybody feels bad after the fact. But what's done is done. >> Please, I don't want him to be jailed. >> I I understand. And And he will go before a judge tomorrow. And they can give him a bond. This isn't over. He's not convicted of anything yet, okay? It's a law The law is very specific. If there's an allegation of domestic violence and injuries, very specific for me. My My My choices are very limited. >> Please. No, you I told I told you earlier on that it's something that I lied that he can handle. You still decided to bring it this far. Now he will be jailed for something that he didn't do. Now you want to go and see the judge and based on his record domestic violence of which he didn't do that. Yes, over the phone I yes I lied because I was angry. I was actually mad at him. I was mad at him. But not that he do he did it. Not that he did it. >> Well, >> [sighs] >> you can explain all that to the judge and the prosecutor. >> So why why why why is he being prosecuted? >> He's going to be prosecuted for domestic violence and assault. >> But he didn't do it. For something that he didn't do. >> Why would you lie about that? >> I was just so mad at him. I was just so mad at him. I didn't lie I lied about it. >> Well, unfortunately, I feel that it is likely that now that the consequences of this have kind of sunk in and you realize yes, he is the breadwinner. Yes, he works two jobs. >> I should I should I should I should be penalized for lying. You shouldn't penalize me. Okay, jail me then. Let him go. Jail me in his place. Let him go. >> Do you have any any family or close friends nearby? >> He brought those here with the kids. He's the only one that I've been talking with all of this life. Jail me and let him go. Me I can go to jail. Go to jail. Jail me instead. >> Sorry, [snorts] we can't do that. >> Because I need I need to leave I need to leave today with him. He can't be jailed. >> Come on. He's going to be taken down to the Franklin County Jail. >> They put a thing on him over there. >> I can't do anything about >> Thing on him over there. No, I told you about that night. I didn't do what I had to do in prison. Yeah, he didn't do anything. I said I said they should penalize me for lying, not him. Even I had to do the same thing. I told you penalize me for lying. Three years I accepted that I lied, not him. He has never wronged anyone. >> All his paperwork done because we get too late, he'll have to spend an extra day there. So we want to make sure we get everything done, everything sorted out so he can get out tomorrow. Um if he has any bond or anything, he can post that. Um and then we'll move forward. Like I said, call the prosecutor, let her know how you feel about things. And we'll go from there. But you really need to go home take care of your kids. >> Doesn't it take away any bad things from them? >> Very easily cuz you're their mom. >> Doesn't it work that >> It does. >> Yeah, I'm a mom of three. >> It does because they need taking care of, too. All right. We're going to get everything taken care of and get things sorted out for the night. All right?
