On July 21st, 2022, Centerville police responded to a report of a man who broke into a home by shattering a front window. Inside, he attacked an elderly couple, demanded money, and set part of the house on fire after pouring gasoline. the window. The intruder, later identified as 37year-old Aman Woodhead, reportedly held onto the door frame and refused to leave. >> Let's go. Let's go. One police report indicated that while being carried, the suspect said he suffered from an undisclosed mental illness. >> There we go. >> No one left inside. >> I need to move that way. Investigators uncovered amphetamine and dextromphetamine pills as well as syringes and a glass pipe containing a burn substance confirmed to be methamphetamine. >> I got >> I'd say let him sit. So, bring your car to you. >> So, you two follow your car. Although firefighters were able to put out the fire, the home was severely damaged and most of the residents belongings were destroyed. The victim sustained significant injuries from the incident and were treated for both their wounds and smoke inhilation. As for Aman, officers learned he was on parole and took him to the Salt Lake County Jail on a warrant issued by the Board of Pardons. Ultimately, Aman was charged with felony first-degree aggravated arson, aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, theft, four counts of aggravated assault, two counts of first-degree attempted aggravated murder, thirdderee disarming a police officer with an energy device, assault on a police officer, and [music] possession of a weapon. as well as misdemeanor, two counts of assault on a police officer, two counts of resisting an officer, vehicle burglary, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of amphetamine. On August 9th, 2023, Aman pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated murder, aggravated arson, disarming a police officer, and assault on a police officer. The remaining charges were dismissed. In the end, he was sentenced to a minimum of 18 years in state prison. He was also ordered to pay more than $140,000 in restitution. At the sentencing hearing, Aman said he went into the house looking for a pair of socks, but ended up burning [music] down the house. He told the judge he was in shock, apologized to everyone involved, and said he didn't understand why he'd [music] do something so terrible.
