This is Officer Carpenter. Officer Carpenter? Not Sergeant? He's senior only. Okay, how you doing Officer Carpenter? Good, how are you? Pretty good, man. Pretty good. What's going on today, sir? So this is what happened today. Showed up today at the district office. Trying to come in and to do two different things. Okay. First thing I wanted to do was exercise my rights to record in public, like I've been doing. Okay, that's fine. Second thing I wanted to do is file a FOIA. Everything was okay until I was standing right where this officer is at and opened up this door just to see inside of the room, not to go in. And they was like, "No, it's private. It's private." So went back and forth. And that's why they called you guys initially. Well, the the room is clearly marked. It says "Staff Meeting Room" and indicates it's a private room. Yeah, and that's why I didn't cross the threshold. Yeah. So you can't open the door for that reason. Right, so that's why I didn't cross over inside. And then they asked you to leave once, too, right? Well, they did, but I was trying to say that, you know, unless it's a crime and the Supreme Court has already ruled this is time, place, and manner, as long as it's open to the public, I am the public. I can be here. I have official business here. What is your official business? The first thing is to document. The second thing is to file a FOIA. I filed my FOIA. And these public records on the wall that I wanted to record. Okay, did you record those yet? No, sir, because he was trying to say something about trespassing. That's easy. Well, they asked you to leave so you can record those and you can go ahead and leave. Okay, so and I will. I definitely will. Like I said, if I'm going to be threatened with arrest if I don't leave, then I'll just be out the door. That'll be okay. Well, we don't want to get to that point. I mean, we're trying to handle handle it civilly with you. Right, I understand. But but Officer Carpenter, I understand what you're saying. But do you understand what I'm saying? That the Supreme Court has ruled that I can be here until they close. If I'm being kicked out early, then that's a violation of my rights. Well, you refuse to identify yourself to Officer Krusac. Not refuse. I just have a right not to identify. That's a Fourth Amendment. But when you say you don't want to identify, you know, we don't know who you are. I understand. So we don't know what business you have here. And this is a school building and you can appreciate the problems that the schools have nowadays with safety of the children and the employees and stuff like that. So that's why it's a concern to them. And at the point they asked you to leave because they think you're concerning like opening the door to private room that is concerning. So, the door wasn't locked and I just stood right here in the lobby. Okay. Never went in. I appreciate you not going in. Never going in. So, and I appreciate you backing out when they asked you to. So, now they're asking you to leave. So, if you want to record your stuff in that you want to record and leave, that's fine. I'm definitely going to. I just don't want to be rushed into doing it. Oh. That's the only thing. Like I told the officer once I filed my foyer, I said once he leaves, I'm going to leave. I have a right to do it. legal process to file your foyer online? Uh Everybody does. Everybody does. But I just did it in person. That's not even the point. Yeah, he's already filed it. Yeah, I filed that. It's just now I want I want to be able to exercise my rights to record in public, sir, without being infringed on. That's it. to do that, but once they ask you to leave because they're you know, concerned for their safety, then you know, you have to leave. I mean, that their safety doesn't supersede my rights, Officer Carpenter. I mean, just all due respect, I go through this all the time. I've been illegally trespassed before. Chief of Police has had to get on the underlings that you know, authorized it. That's not what we're trying to do with the city of Kewanee. I'm I know precisely what I'm doing. I I go all over the country doing this. Okay. I just don't want it to be infringed on. I have a right How much time do you think you need? To be honest with you, sir, like I told him before you came, Officer Carpenter, I'mma get the rest of the documents that I need to get and as soon as you guys leave, I'm out of here like I always do. I always do. I don't feel comfortable leaving with you here not knowing who you are and what business you have here, so I mean, I understand, but You said if it's a public place, you know, it's It is. It is. It is. And it's And it's like I said, the Supreme Court judges already ruled. As long as it's open to the public, I can be here. I'm going to get you Mike a call. Okay. Is Mike like a deputy chief or What's that? Mike, is he like a commander or chief or Yeah. Oh, oh, deputy chief. Okay, cool. I'm not trying to give nobody a hard time, man. It's just hey, our rights is the last thing we got, man. That's it, you know. We can't We just can't let them be trampled on. So, I definitely We definitely appreciate Officer Carpenter at least trying to get some verification. Not a lot of officers do that and they try to get some verification before and you know they make a mistake, man. That's That's beautiful that they're willing to do that. So, we'll see what the deputy chief has to say and go from there. Man, how far is the guy's police department from here? Is it pretty far? It's probably about a mile. Mile? Okay. Not too far. Right up the road. Okay. I should have got two. We should have got the direct phone number for this location. That'd be that'd probably be the last thing we'll get from them and we should be might be up here somewhere. Uh no. I won't say yet. I'm just trying to speak to a higher-up there, uh Officer Carpenter. Just let him know what's going on, man. Okay. Now, I definitely appreciate you trying to get some clarification, man. So, right now we're just hanging out with you. Ain't nothing wrong with that, man. It's you know. I just, you know, like I was telling this officer here, man, our rights is the last thing we got, man. If we If we give those up, big what, you know? That'd be it. How do you feel about that, Officer Carpenter? You swore an oath, now. You said I swore an oath. Okay. Well, part of your job is to uphold the Constitution, sir. You swore an oath to that. I am. Okay. Okay. This Who's that there? Uh there was a Mrs. Baney. Jake. He said I can't remember what the other one was. There was a couple of them. Well, we're still waiting. I guess we're waiting on them. Is this the actual commander? You know Show it to the thing. No, I don't know. Oh, okay. Okay. Okay. Looked like a one of the head supervisors, man. Looked like he was coming in. Looked like he was in a regular car, though. Uh we'll see, though, man. We're we're still hanging tough. Going to see. See what he says. Like I said, all I would need if we're going to say what they need to say, we're moving forward. We're good to go. That's why I asked him, "Where's the police department cuz it look like it's going to be one of those videos where we'll have to hike on down there and file some complaints. We'll see, man. I mean, you guys stay tuned. It's 30 to 45 minutes, man. We're still waiting on the deputy chief. The chief, whoever they called. I mean, we'll hang out all day. This is ridiculous, man. Let me ask him one We're still waiting on the deputy chief, right? Yeah. Or the commander? Okay. We're done talking. If you want to record, go ahead. If you want to hang out, go ahead. Okay. Have a nice day. All right. Appreciate it, man. Good luck. Can one of you guys at least jot down the card number for me? I did. That'll be the only thing I need. Appreciate it. You can come up to the PD and request it if you want. Oh, you don't want to jot it down for me? If you want it, you have our report number. Just request it. Yeah, so uh See what I'm saying? TJ got me messed up. It's crazy, man. That's crazy, man. I can tell they uh I can tell they salty they peeping on that thing. Okay, appreciate it. Thanks a lot. Have a good day. All right, you too.
