When we arrive on scene, it's not always easy to determine what's happened. And today's suspects are not going to make it any easier. >> I hit him with my club. Got like he was going to hit me. >> I can't confirm or deny anything. >> First up, a fight at a golf course has left one party battered and bruised. >> And then he pulls the golf club back and hits me in the face and breaks the club over my head. >> Well, I see the golf club. >> It's an iron. Then we'll see some surveillance footage that shows who was lying when an elderly man was attacked. >> I don't know what the problem seems to be. You punch that guy in the face that day is the problem. Right in front of a camera. Clear as day. >> But first, a fight over golf etiquette leaves one man seriously injured. >> Hey, how y'all? >> We're fine. >> Somebody got hit. >> Yes. >> Me and the dude got in a fight down there. >> All right. Who's the other dude? >> The one right down the court. >> And what happened was y'all can tell them what happened. >> These guys are hitting up on us, right? >> That's not good golf etiquette. On 17, we're walking up. Just got in the car. got hits and ball go right by us. All we said is don't hit up on us. Started talking trash. >> Mhm. >> We got to this hole here. They came down. Oh, y'all must not know golf etiquette. And he walked towards us with his >> club. His club. >> Mhm. >> So we walked towards him. >> Okay. >> With his right hand closed. >> Okay. >> Man had a club up there open. He grabbed his club. >> I'm going fear that he going to hit me with that club. When he walking up on me, he baldled his pitch up. He broke down in a fighting stance. >> So, you can tell this guy has some kind of law enforcement experience. He's using kind of like elements from the crime. He took a fighting stance, baldled up his fist. I was in fear. He's kind of setting it up for his defense. >> And then we run at it. I hit him with my club like he was going to hit me. >> Okay. >> Where is this guy? >> That's him. >> Is that him right there? >> You hit him right there. >> And I All y'all had to do is say, "All right, >> you just stay right there. I'll talk to you." Okay. Just stay right there. Yeah. >> Hey, we need to press charges. >> Exactly. >> Yeah. >> Someone swings a golf club and hits me in the face. >> Hey, listen to me. Or all of you can go to jail. >> Now, he's done asked you. Y'all speak to him and I will speak to them. >> Or all of you can go to jail. That's kind of like an old school copper thing. I don't hear that a lot anymore, but it's appreciated. >> Please, very lowly, so we don't start arguing out here. Tell me what happened. So, I'll let him explain because he's actual with >> Whoa, he is tuned up. Just a second for me. >> He busted open pretty good that year. >> Where I see the blood. Where did he actually get struck at? >> And then he got >> 851 Mon County >> and then the guy tackled him. Wow. Does this look like somebody who >> Oh my goodness. >> EMS, a white male. >> So, this isn't like a simple golf course fight or a simple assault and battery. This is assault battery, the deadly weapon or aggravated assault carries much higher penalties and the stakes are they're getting higher here. >> Bleeding from the head as well as has an injury to the rib cage area. Get an ETA, please. It's actively bleeding. So, you got struck in the head and in the >> broke his golf club on my face. >> Got beat you in. >> Well, we have been playing behind them all day and they >> already picked up my balls. So, they have been picking up my balls, messing up our pace of play. they've been doing, you know, 20 minutes. There's golf etiquette. You let the faster players play through them. So, we had to team up with another tusome just so we could play slowly enough to where we're not just sitting for 20 minutes waiting for >> I'm guessing two that were behind y'all. >> Correct. Yes, that makes sense. >> Correct. So then, >> so you from Alabama? >> Yes. >> Oh, you just out here visiting? >> That's what I'm doing. >> The aggression was unnecessary. >> What started the whole thing that you talking about picking up their ball? They had a ball. We picked and we gave it to them. We said, "Man, we're sorry." They were cool. >> It was the other two. We kept >> his buddies are back in his play here. >> To 16 is the par five. >> And it happened twice. You didn't see the first time. First time ball went thinking, "Oh, maybe it's just smash." >> Mhm. >> Second to You don't take two bad shots. Hitting the ball past people. >> Mhm. >> And golf etiquette, you do not hit up on. That's the one pet peeve of mine. >> In golf etiquette, of course, if someone hits their ball close to you, you beat them horribly with your club. Everybody knows that. all the things on the golf course. You don't want to get hit by a golf ball. >> You know, they have been mouthing off. Ming off said golf course etiquette. Golf course etiquette is you let the faster player play through. So then he comes up to me. I say, "You need to stop coming towards me. You need to stop coming towards me." And he puts the golf I was. And he puts the golf club in my face. And when he does that, I grab the golf club cuz I'm, you know, in fear of my life. >> And then he pulls the golf club back and hits me in the face and breaks the club over my head. >> Oh my gosh. all of this over a verbal altercation because they were going slower and were picking up y'all's balls. Yes, ma'am. >> Do me a favor. Just because I know how head injuries are, can you just have a seat? I don't want you to fall over and start getting laded. You're still losing some blood. >> So, when we say to him, "Hey, you can't hit up on the other young man says, >> speed up. >> Y'all need to speed up." I said, "But you don't get a chance to hit balls up on folk." He's walking up on the green. He has a club in his hand. Brother has a club and he has his right hand closed. And when he grabbed his club and pulled it, it was on. All we told him, I said, "That's the wrong thing to do. That's not the right thing to do." I said, "All you guys had to do was say we were sorry for hitting up on you." That's it. >> I'm sure that hurts. [laughter] >> I'm sure that hurts. >> All you guys had to do was say, "We were sorry for hitting up on you." That's it. and everything would have been squashed. But in golf etiquette, particularly on the weekend, there's no rushing through on the weekend. I don't care where you play. >> Yeah. >> If he lunged at me first and grabbed my glove and my arm and then I defended myself. Then when I took him to the ground, I asked him, "You you going to stop?" He said yes. And I I released my whole >> I stopped when his aggression stopped. >> Okay. Do you hit him with a closed fist or you hit him >> a closed fist? Yes. >> Okay. I hit him with the club, too, cuz when he grabbed it, I brought it on back around with it. I hit him with the club. >> A little bit over the top, my man. >> I don't remember. >> Struck in the head and rib cage with a golf club. >> Not sure where the blood's coming from on the head, but he's got a >> Is that what it was? A putter? >> He's got a nice uh indentation on his rib cage right there of a >> Did he get stopped? >> No, he hit me [laughter] as soon as he got >> You got a golf beat down. >> You can see the golf. This a golf club. >> I mean, I could suck myself. getting hit in the ribs and in the head in a cough club. >> You remember everything that happened? >> Yeah. >> If if you remember where where he where it was head, >> I don't remember hitting him in the head with the club. >> That's one. But I did punch him. I did punch him with my fist. >> I hit him with the club. I punched him with my fist. This guy did a long time in a prison. It's time to hang it up, brother. Like I know it's a tough job. It's stressful. You probably had to wrestle dudes all the time. But you're all playing golf. You don't have to throw a beatd down. did hit him in the stomach area, but come and then they got down on the ground heavy guy start walking and Anthony gets in between him >> cuz he was getting ready to swing and I'm not going to let nobody swing on my brother when he's on the ground. This ain't going to happen. >> And then while he had it down, he just said, "Hey, all you got to do is just say I've had enough >> because they're messing with grown men here. We're we're not little kids." And that's golf etiquette. I'm saying to [laughter] say >> this golf >> etiquette licks exchanged from him to this gentleman or it was just him taking the brunt of it. >> Once he got tackled it was kind of just like a wrestling trying to get him off of him but that guy just kept trying to hit him in the like on top of him on like his stomach on his back swinging like that. >> So this was after he got struck with the golf club in the head and the ribs. Then it went >> pretty much right where he contact was really no aggressive. It was after he got hit in the ribs. The guy came in, bear hugged him, took him to the ground, and kept functioning. >> What color shirt is the one wearing? >> It's the guy with the hat. >> The one without the hat. >> Okay. >> I'd like to know how the guy who attacked the gentleman there, how his golf game was going, what his score was for the day. Cuz I have never seen people get so angry during a sport than golf. >> Turn that. >> It is the number one sport that seems to set off people's tempers. So when they come down to 17 barking at us, >> that's the wrong thing to do. We're we're trying to finish up on 18. We're here at 18. Hey, >> well, give me just a second. Let me speak with my >> Okay. >> boss lady and I I'll be right back. >> Speak with the boss lady. >> They Okay. >> Says that they're trying to play through golf >> and that through the whole day they're getting caught up behind them going slow. This guy claims the guy in the red shirt. >> [clears throat] >> The big guy says the golf court ete just let him play on pass you >> ete >> instead of them doing that. This group's been picking up their balls all day when they got down here to the symphony. You can actually see the guy's hat is laid out there on the on the green. >> Mhm. >> The one in the the one in the blue shirt with no hat on right here. >> Apparently words got exchanged about them playing slow and them having to wait behind them all day. That words were getting exchanged and this guy pointed the golf club. this gentleman with no hat on pointed the golf club in his face and that he grabbed the golf club trying to get it away from him cuz he was pointing it in his face and I know where the guy started swinging at him after he struck him in the head and the rib cage. You can see it's a clear golf club print on his abdomen that the golf club got dropped and he tackled him to the ground. And this is all coming from the guy in the red, not the victim. Mhm. >> The guy in the red says that while the guy in the white shirt was laid down on his stomach, that this gentleman here was on his back, belly on his back, wailing on his head. >> They're saying that they had gone to 18 TE >> standing at the tea box to tee off. They were finishing up on 17, which is right beside one another. Young guy, he walked up, had his glove in his hand, started, you know, they were holling about golf etiquette, this and that and the other to the little guy. charged at him, had his golf club in his hand, lunged at him, grabbed one arm with his hand, grabbed the other one, and there it was kind of a struggle. He said he did hit him with the damn golf club. >> They didn't get that part. Talk to the guy in the red shirt real quick and I'm going to see what the owners knock on the window. >> Are they pressing charges? >> Oh, it's not there's not going to be an option. It's going to be us that puts charges on. And we probably going to take both of them. >> Yeah. Take both of them, >> more than likely. >> Okay. Cuz what it sounds like to me is the the two gentlemen over here got a little frustrated being behind them all day that they wouldn't let them play through. >> Apparently that's golf eticy. >> Okay, just pause for a moment here. This madness has to stop. I don't think eticy is a word, but she keeps using it. And I do like this copper. She's she's doing a good job. But I I don't have time to Google it. >> I got you, homie. >> But I'm 99% sure etacy is not a real word. Well, then they they ran into each other again right here. Some words got exchanged and this guy got struck in the abdomen. You can see the clear golf club print. He's probably going to have issues with his ribs. >> The one that's bleeding right here. >> Oh, the black guy hit him with a golf >> hit him in the golf club in the head and in the rib cage with the club >> and then dropped the club. >> Savage golf attack. him. And from what the gentleman in the red shirt is saying is that >> the black gentleman was belly to this gentleman's back on the ground wailing on his head. So that's how he's got his head busted open. >> I was going to say we don't want either one of them back out here. >> Either one of those two or either of the groups. >> No, just want either of those. >> Just the two that are fighting. I hate to penalize those guys when they didn't do anything, but >> those >> Well, my problem is I don't know what the what exactly who exchanged all the words. >> That's assault with it's one thing to >> fight words. It's something completely different when you're swinging a club at somebody's head. >> That's exactly right. >> And I'm really curious which one to hit him with. I mean, you could almost take the club and match the shape. >> Yeah. >> It It literally is going to bruise in the shape of a golf club. And I'll have to speak with Officer Maddox. It's his call, but more than likely the gentleman in the white shirt and the gentleman without the hat are going to both catch charges. >> How do I go about pressing charges? >> Well, that and that's one thing that Officer Maddox is looking into at this point is who's going to get what charges cuz clearly their story is different from y'all's story. >> So, we got to kind of put everything together. >> I mean, when you hit someone with a golf club, it's different if we were fist fighting. >> It's absolutely different. You >> he hit me with a golf club. That's >> it's absolutely different. But you also have to understand that the property owner is going to ban you from the golf course. >> You are not. >> I do wrong >> because of y'all are out here fighting. >> I got hit. >> Well, their story is you started the verb. >> I just can test that later. >> They start Who started verball? >> That's not >> the other guy. >> And y'all were out there the whole time. >> Yes, ma'am. >> Okay. I'll speak to them in just a minute away from you. That way their story isn't twisted. But I do need your ID. >> It's It's actually in the golf cart. >> In the golf cart. >> Brown wallet. So, this is perfect. We have witnesses that weren't involved with either of them. Perfect for assault and battery because it's always like this. It's always he said, he said, he said, she said when you show up trying to figure out who the aggressor was, who caused it, who was defending themselves, who was attacking, it's a huge pain in the butt, but witnesses help every time. >> What you see, what you saw, what happened? >> You first. Well, me and my buddy Aaron, we were playing golf. >> Big old mouth of chew there. >> We were trying to keep up pace with the ready to play. That's the rules on each golf course. And apparently me and him, we want to skip a hole cuz we're just trying to see what was wrong. Just seeing why it was taking so long. And those two gentlemen up there, >> I asked them if they want to join us cuz I told him I was like, "We ain't going to go any faster, >> right?" >> So they want to join and we were on 17, no 16. And the guy that just got assaulted accidentally shanks his ball towards them on accident. And I didn't see it till last second until it passed the cart. And I was going to say something. They they said, "Don't don't effing hit into us." And I just >> So y'all were on two different holes. >> Yes, ma'am. On accident. >> 17. >> You weren't even coming up behind them. >> Hole numbers are. >> Yes, ma'am. >> So y'all were on 17? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Those other gentlemen were on 18. >> Yes, ma'am. That >> he hit the ball. >> Yes, ma'am. >> And it went over there on to 18. >> Yes, ma'am. >> Okay. >> Which is totally common. These guys are even on two separate holes. I thought they were like coming up behind him. So, he hit a ball, he shanked it or or whatever they call it and it went on to the other hole. Happens all the time. It sounds like this other group of guys really overreacted. >> And then what did he say? >> And then apparently the the guy that assaulted I don't know his name. >> It's okay. The gentleman over here. >> Yes, ma'am. >> Okay. >> He the black guy came and coming towards him with the golf club and started cussing him out and everything. And I was trying to tell everybody to calm down. Calm down. There ain't no reason for anybody to go to jail over this. And the black guy came and did that to him. >> The golf club right in his face >> and then got pushed. >> Hey 52. >> And then he grabbed the golf club and just >> and just started smashing them in the ridge. And then then the third hit hit him right there in the ear. >> Right there in the head. >> Let me ask you a question. >> Love his golf club. >> Outside of y'all just starting to golf together the little bit today. Do you know any of these young men prior to today? >> No, ma'am. Those are going to be two independent witnesses that back up the story of the gentleman that got hit with the glove twice in the rib cage, once in the head. The golf club got knocked away and then he actually tackled him and went to the ground and went to >> Did you look at his ribs? >> Well, I see the golf club print. >> It's an iron. >> You can see it cuz the shaft was all is wrapped around his hard. >> Yeah. >> That is hard. >> Do you see it? >> Look. Look at his avenue. >> His rib. >> Come here for a second. I'll be surprised. >> Yeah, >> that's some major impact to give that definition. >> Where is the laceration actually at up here? >> His ear. >> So, it's just on his >> See where his ear is torn? >> Wow. Even his ear is torn. Assault battery, deadly weapon, serious bodily injury. The area I work, it could also be considered mayhem because you've altered or disfigured the human body. So, this is going to be really bad for that other guy. Now, I also have independent witnesses that have come forward that, you know, have given statements that that did this say y'all were over over going towards the 18th TA box. However, the altercation happened on the 17th green. All right. So, I mean, and also also sir, let me say this. >> Yes, sir. >> In golf, >> the people that are in front >> Yeah. I mean, I understand the game and you know, and I'm I'm familiar with the game. It's just >> it's etiquette, guys. coming from behind us. >> I've got a I got a quandry here. All right. So, I got a man that's has that's got some some serious injuries. All right. And >> but he was officer. He was aggressive toward us. He came toward us with his club saying, "Y'all don't know Edin saying some other stuff." >> I'm not trying to discount anybody, but you know, the independent witnesses don't don't have a dog in this fight. All right. I I'm You know, you were in law enforcement. Who did you work for? >> Department of Corrections. >> Department of Corrections. Okay. You know, we have to we have to go on all the evidence we have at hand. We have to take your side, have your witnesses, take his side, and we have to take the independent witnesses kind of put it all together. And with the injuries, he he got some serious injury. He's probably going to have some ribs broke. He also has a a cut across his ear. He's got a large lower large swoll up place on on the side of his head where the club would hit him. So, I mean, I don't have any other choice. >> Absolutely insane. >> Turn around, sir. All right. >> Officer. >> No, I don't know where. >> There you go. >> So, I understand what you're saying. He's got >> But are we not supposed to defend ourselves? >> If he's the one >> What are you talking [laughter] about? >> Well, and and and that's what it is. What has to be understood at this point is that we weren't here. We didn't witness it. We can only go by the evidence that's presented to us. >> He was the guy that started the whole >> Well, just call Karen. >> Well, having a verbal altercation is completely different to when it becomes physical. Okay. We can stand here as two grown adults and we can exchange words all day long and there's nothing illegal about that. It becomes illegal when the physical altercation begins. >> I guess you call me a little bit old now. That's all right. >> All right. Just have a seat, sir. >> All right. Thank you, sir. >> There is malicious intent of golf club going to someone's head. >> But the Listen to me. I I I I'm not saying that I disagree with you, but that is >> and I'm pleading to you. It should be to the judge, but >> Well, no, it it's okay, you know, because it's it's >> these guys are pretty reasonable, you know, after this guy did it when they were all three of them alone. They were like, "What the hell did you do? >> He's dead." >> Way over the top, my man. >> It's absolutely okay to do this now because doing this now, it's all recorded on body camera. So, in a year when this actually goes to trial, I don't remember if I said that to them or not. I don't remember if I told them that. His attorney, which I'm sure you guys will have access to, can absolutely get a copy of the body cameras that we have. >> All right, you just go right in right there on that wall to your right. They'll be out to greet you. >> This must be soul crushing for that guy. We'll catch up with Cedric's charges in just a moment, but first, officers are called to a scene where a senior citizen has been assaulted with a hot coffee. All of a sudden, that guy said, "Hey." He came out the door. "Hey, you have some coffee at me." Then the kid turned it around and go, "Did you got a problem?" Came right at him and right across him and he went to the ground. >> Hit him. >> Yeah, I think he did hit him. He got a >> No. Did you see him hit him? >> Yes. >> Okay. Are you willing to ride a steam? >> Sure. I don't care. I don't like I seen him around here before. He parks. >> I don't like him anyways. >> I don't know him. I know he rides biked everywhere. >> You don't know who that guy was, do you? >> I do not. I know. Just know the guy that comes here every day. The one that got hurt. I I did not >> The other guy You don't know? >> I did not see him. He didn't wait long. I don't know why he got felt like he had to throw that at him. We weren't He didn't have a line. >> Did you see him do that? >> No, but I saw the guy turn around and say, "What is you know, he got splashed with someone's coffee?" >> That's all I saw. Hello. Copy down. Copy down for me. >> Yeah. You have any license on you? You have a license on you? Of >> course. >> Okay. >> How you doing today? >> I'm well. How are you? >> I'm good. >> Any weapons on anything like that? >> No way. >> All right. So, the reason why I'm out here with you is that we had an incident race at a um gas station a couple days ago. Early gentleman got coffee thrown on him and he was struck in the face. >> Okay. >> They sent out an attempt to identify and someone called in saying that you match description. That's why I'm out here with you. Were you at a gas station recently? >> Uh, I've been at a race track. >> Did you have an altercation with an elderly male at all? >> No. >> Coffee coffee and someone. >> I've never thrown coffee. >> All righty. I like your Ray-B bands. >> Thank you. Appreciate that. >> Trying to get on the cops good side. Hey, nice sunglasses. >> How's your day going? >> Not too bad. Trying to stay cool. Not too hot out. What about you? >> Uh, same thing. Just trying to stay cool. Uh, headed back home. >> Okay. ate some uh Scotts got some juice. >> Okay. So, you weren't at a gas station, had an altercation, elderly mail, anything like that? >> Altercation. >> Okay. Let me read you something. All right. So, I read everyone this I'm talking to. I ask more questions for you. Just so everyone's aware of their rights that there's no confusion. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say, can it be used against you in court? With these rights in mind, are you willing to speak with me? I also have a few more questions to ask you. I read everyone their rights so they're better informed of what's going on. trying to soften Miranda because when people hear those a lot of times they they lock up because it's like the movies or a cop TV show. >> You have the right to an attorney. >> They know they're under investigation now and it can derail a good relationship or rapport if you had one going in the first place. >> Uh are you arresting me? >> I'm not talking about arresting you right now. I just have more questions for you. >> Well, then I would rather not answer any questions because that's what my dad's always told. >> Okay. Uh, what I have to do is get some some photos of you. photos of you. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Um, cuz like I was talking to you about >> Um, cuz like I was talking to you about in reference to the case that happened in reference to the case that happened earlier. earlier. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> We have video of it. You match it to the >> We have video of it. You match it to the T. Same sunglasses, same shoes, T. Same sunglasses, same shoes, everything like that. Same backpack. everything like that. Same backpack. >> That's fine. >> That's fine. >> Um, let explain to you the reason why >> Um, let explain to you the reason why I'm out here since identify. You match I'm out here since identify. You match the T description of a gentleman that the T description of a gentleman that was assaulted or spelling battery. Um, was assaulted or spelling battery. Um, he's over 65. he's over 65. >> In most states, assault battery on an >> In most states, assault battery on an elderly person or somebody who's elderly person or somebody who's handicapped or disabled becomes a handicapped or disabled becomes a felony. Uh, what I have to do is get felony. Just keep a lookout and your mailing like that. >> Ready to go. >> Thank you. >> All right. >> You guys have a good day. >> You too. Ooh. So, even that by definition, if the stuff hit him, is assault and battery. And I think he's probably standing behind a guy doing lotto because that's what I've experienced in my life is standing there and waiting for somebody to do their lotto and getting a little impatient. Oh jeez. Wow. Little overreaction there. >> Hey, >> how you doing? >> How you doing? You >> how you? >> Good. How are you? >> I'm fine. Just having a cigarette. >> All right. >> Deputy. >> No, we're we're here to talk to you. Is anyone at home there? >> Yeah, you probably want to ask them before you talk to me. >> I'll go talk with them. >> What is that? Your parents? >> Those are my parents. >> Okay. >> I know the the deputies talked to you the other day over at the gas station, right? >> That's correct. >> I know they read you your rights then. I'm going to read them to you again. >> Yeah. >> And then we'll we'll go from there. >> Am I under arrest? You guys are all armored. >> No, this is this is what we wear every day. >> Okay. This is our normal normal uniforms. >> Three of us is cuz we work in the area the gas station is and this is actually his area. So we came over to his area to roll. >> Oh, okay. I've just never been approached by so many people. >> Hey sir. Hey. I just want to let you know that we're in the back talking to your son. Okay. >> Yeah. What happened? >> Oh, we're just talking to him right now about something that happened in the past. I just want to let you guys know so you weren't caught off guard. >> Okay. Well, he's out during his art, but is there something is there legal problem? Is there criminal activity? Uh, >> I'm not going to >> Is it have to do with the bike accident? >> I'm not going to go too much onto it right now cuz they're speaking to him and he's an adult, correct? >> Yeah. >> So, I'm going to if he wants to tell you guys later on or after, he can. But, I just want to let you know that we're speaking to him in the back so you guys weren't caught off guard. >> Oh, okay. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> There's a couple reasons not to tell him. Maybe so he doesn't overreact or try to interject himself into the investigation. Also, he has a right to privacy. He's an adult. He's not a child. He's not under their care that they know of. What I'll do sometimes is if there's an interested family member, I'll ask the person. Do you mind if I tell them what's going on? If the suspect says, "Yeah, that's fine." Then I let them in on it if I'm sure they're not going to be a problem. >> Thank you. >> With these rights in mind, are you willing to talk with us? >> Uh I've always been advised against speaking uh without >> You don't have to. So you don't have to. >> You don't want to. >> Yeah. You don't have to answer any questions. Um I'm still going to explain to you why we're here and what we're doing. Um, and I got a couple things to show you and then we'll we'll go from there. Okay. >> He lives with me. I'm his father. >> That's fine and all, but he's an adult. Yeah. >> So, we're interviewing him and him alone right now. So, if you don't mind, you can you can hang out right here, but if you can't just go over there to interrupt our inter >> I just want to listen. >> Okay. You can listen from here. >> I can't hear you very well from here. >> Okay, that's fine. Like I said, I don't want you over there. >> This is my property. >> You want us to step off it? >> Oh, boy. >> Uh, I may have to ask you to if you can't let me stand where I want to stand. Okay. We're conducting investigation. We're we're conducting investigation with your son right now. So, if you want us off your property, we can go take him up front. Okay. >> You'd rather us do that. Take him on the road. >> It's quieter to do it back here. >> I agree. >> He just wants to listen. >> You want you want to leverage me? Fine. You just >> You understand that? It's his dad. >> High five, buddy. Go on. Go do your business. >> I'll listen from here. >> I concede. >> I don't appreciate it, but I'll listen from here. >> Like I said, if you want us off, we can go on the road and talk with him. I heard what you said. I told you to go ahead and do >> Thank you. >> The other day, these are the pictures they took of you, correct? And I'm pretty sure you're actually wearing the same shirt today. >> Oh, yeah. >> Okay. >> Oh, jeez. I guess so. >> This one as well, right? So, that is you, correct? >> That looks like me. >> This is I mean, you're wearing the same shirt. >> It It obviously looks like >> Do you remember them taking the pictures of you the other day? >> Yeah, I do. Okay. Pretty identical, right? >> Uhhuh. >> Would you say that this is you? I know this one doesn't have color. >> So, I don't know. This person's already said that they don't want to speak to them. He got Miranda. >> I've always been advised against speaking. >> He refused to cooperate against self-inccrimination. Yet, they are still going forward, still asking [music] questions, incriminating questions. Usually, when I hear someone wants to exercise their Miranda rights, it's over. That's it. But these guys are kind of pushing a little bit. >> But, it's actually showing the same exact shoes. >> Okay. Neon green shoes. >> The backpack is the same backpack. You can actually tell on this photo. You see the two straps there? >> Uhhuh. >> The one strap there, the piece there. You got the same thing here. The two pieces there. Okay. Same glasses, same hair. >> The photos aren't color. We just print them. >> Yeah. I can't I can't confirm or deny anything. >> Okay. Either way, um I mean it's it's pretty clear and it's pretty apparent that it is you. Okay. >> I can't say that either one is matching. It looks like somebody that looks like me. >> Well, I hear what you're saying. So, it's also tough cuz it's black and white. It's a photo from a video. The video is actually really good. It's a clear camera. And I'm I'm willing to show you that video after we get done here. >> Oh, yeah. The video we'd be happy to show you. [clears throat] >> So, they really want him to just admit that it's him. I mean, they already have a witness. They have video. They have enough. But the cherry on top is getting somebody to confess that it was them. >> You know, he's >> okay. >> Or do you not know? >> You're telling me that I know >> he's diagnosed. I'm a retired cardiologist. >> Okay. >> He's >> Okay. >> He's been ill for over 10 years and he's on disability. >> Okay. >> The only reason he's not homeless and on the street and hasn't anybody to this point is because I keep a roof over his head. >> Yeah. >> And I make sure he goes and gets his medication. >> Okay. >> Otherwise, he'd be homeless like half the other homeless people that are up buffalo and up children in schoolyards in Texas. >> No. Do you know about all these Park Sandy Hook and who doesn't? >> I do. >> That's caused by mental illness. It has nothing to do with racism or hatred. >> It's undiagnosed mental illness. This country is rampant. >> That's true. >> He has when he's not on his meds. He was non-compliant for 10 years. This is the best he's been in 10 years. >> Okay. >> But I need you to know he's mentally ill. I know that you told me and I'll let the other deputy know as well. >> You are wearing the same exact earbuds. The shoes match again and the backpack matches. >> I'm not I'm not going to say whether the two pictures are the same because I don't explain. >> If I hadn't intervened and called you guys every time he just people up. He had a gun loaded three magazines. >> You have a gun? >> Well, no. Absolutely not. I've taken everything away. >> It's all locked up in my safe. >> Okay. Well, kudos to this guy because there are a lot of people out there with mental health issues whose family doesn't take the appropriate steps or doesn't want to put themselves out there to take care of them. It sounds like this guy's doing that, which is great. >> My father was an FBI agent, his grandfather. >> Okay. >> Well, we're very familiar with guns and gun management and gun safety. >> Yeah. >> But I need you to be aware that he is mentally ill. >> Diagnosed. >> We have zero doubt that it's you and both those images. >> We know, >> but if you have anything that would help us, if you have anything that would cause doubt on our end, it'd be helpful. >> Again, he's exercised his Miranda rights. He doesn't want to talk, but still questioning. Probably might all get thrown out. >> Crap. Crap. Mega crap. >> Not that you really need it cuz you have so much evidence anyways, but you don't want to violate somebody's Miranda rights. >> I don't know anything. I I don't know what the problem seems to be. >> All right. Well, be straightforward with it. You You punch that guy in the face that day is the problem. Um it's right in front of a camera. Clear as day. We have video footage of you coming and going and on the bridge coming and going right back >> on the traffic cameras coming right back to here, >> which is how we got here. >> And then the next day you go back to the same location wearing everything but the same t-shirt. Um, and somebody who was there recognized you. Do you have an identical twin brother? >> No, I don't have an identical twin brother, but >> I can't think of any other way that that that wouldn't be you because we're positive. I was hoping you might have some amazing information that would make us think otherwise. >> I wish I could give you some. >> When I ask you like let's say 10 questions, I already know the answer to seven of them. It's how we do our jobs cuz folks lie to us all the time. And I don't take any offense when someone lies to us. I really don't. It's just the nature of the job. >> Well, I wouldn't be lying to you. As of right now, we only have one side of this. So, that's another reason why we're out here. We're trying to talk with you about it. That's why we read you your rights and that's that's why we're here. >> So, do you have audio? >> No, we don't have audio. >> So, you just have somebody's account. >> Oh, we have a video of you. >> We have a full video, >> right? So, >> hey, once again, we can show you right now if you'd like to see the video. >> What I would like to do is remain silent. >> Okay. >> Second time my which is what I've always been told to do. Tell the appropriate uh authority what happened, make sure that the stories match up, and then we'll take it. >> What stories match up? >> Well, you just said there's another story. >> Well, yeah. Obviously, somebody called us. We have one We have one side of it, which is why we're here. We're trying. >> You have one side of it, and I'm not going to give you the other side. >> Let me rephrase that. We have one side of it. >> Have a lawyer. >> We have one side of it plus a video which shows >> an overall of the entire incident. >> It's pretty clear, man. I don't think I have anything to say. >> Okay. All right. Stand down up. Put your leg down. >> Let me go. Let me go. Let me put these things in my pocket. Going in your pocket. >> Yeah. I'm put in my pocket. >> I'm telling you right now, you're not going in your pocket. >> If you want to sort out your property, we can do that after. But right now, we got to get you cut. >> Where are you taking me to jail? >> For what reason? >> You punched a 76-y old man in the face. >> He attacked me. >> For apparently no reason. >> He attacked So, you're confirming that you were there, correct? >> I'm saying I'm saying that you're asking more questions and I already told you who I want to speak. There you go. >> That's called a spontaneous utterance. When you just say, "He attacked me." >> I didn't ask you if he attacked you. >> Spontaneous utterance is a thing. I've had people in the back of the car before just start talking and talking about the crime. I haven't memorandized them yet. So, that can go in my report. I just put in the report. unprompted by me and without being questioned, so and so said this, but these guys definitely were continuing to ask questions. >> You just straight up said he attacked me. So, I'm going to take that as by that statement, you confirm that you were there that day. >> And I'm going to take the video of you clearly being there. And then >> I hate to criticize. I really do. >> Most of the same clothing, comically looking identical to the day before, almost around the same time. But hey, I guess that's just information. >> What should I do? you're mentally ill, don't talk until you have a psychiatrist and a lawyer or a public defender. Just don't say anything. I'm I I don't know what you did, but it's in your best interest not to cooperate, to wait until you got an attorney and a psychiatrist to work with you because you're mentally ill. >> So, can I if I can explain? So, >> yes, >> apparently somebody in the face. I'm not going to go as far as what happened, but I will tell you there is a victim. There is a crime that happened and there's a victim and he's a suspect. Okay? So, we'll be taking him to jail today. >> Let's go over the car. I'll show you the video. If you decide that you want to talk, let me know that you want to wave your rights and you want to talk and then we'll go from there. Okay. >> All right. Sound good? Fair. >> Is that in slow motion? >> No, it's not slow. Play it again. >> No, I don't need to see it again. So, with that in mind and your rights in mind, do you want to talk about anything or >> All right. Well, from what I remember, when you saw him turn around like this, >> it looks like he said something. >> He called me a psychopath and a then I wasn't going to stand in line and deal with that. So, I walked out and as I walked out, I just dropped my cup because of whatever reason. I don't know why, it just happened. And uh I walked out planning to leave and not have any altercation with anybody. And he came out and started threatening me verbally. >> Well, how did he threaten you? >> Uh he yelled at me. He cussed at me. He said he said he said something about you got a real problem. You want to fight? And then he put his arm up. As you saw in the video, he put one arm up. So, he already knows there's no audio from this. So, kind of keep [music] that in mind. Maybe he's kind of inserting things that were said that maybe weren't. We don't know. But he knows there's no audio to prove otherwise. >> And I assumed he was going to come at me and then I don't know what happened after that. It just all happened too fast. >> When he called you those names in the story, have you guys ever met before or never met? You just turned around just kind of like from your perspective unexpectedly for no reason and just kind of was there anything leading up to that like >> No, I just want to he just started calling me names. >> I just want to try to make one part clear. You did ride there on a bicycle. >> I did. >> So when he walked out on foot and you were already out of the view of the camera, right? You at that point you did you had the ability to leave, right? there. There should have been no threat. Even if he was saying, you know, threatening things, you had the ability to leave and call us and handle it the right way, right? >> I'll take responsibility. >> Craig was charged with felony battery on a person over 65 and sentenced to 15 months in prison, followed by 3 years of probation. Cedric was charged with aggravated assault and sentenced to 5 years in prison. He was released in December of 2024 and is currently on parole. Thank you for joining me on this video.
