Domestic calls are one of the hardest calls that we respond to. Not only because they're really sad to see, but also because it's really hard to determine who's at fault when you first arrive on the scene. Today, we have two cases of domestic violence. A man is found in the parking lot area of his ex-wife's apartment building, and he has two guns in the car. Wow. In a second case, when the cops arrive on the scene, they're not sure who's at fault, the man or the woman. I ain't never put my hands on you. I know. I know. First, the cops arrive on this scene where both the man and the woman have visible injuries. She broke my window. She calm down. Stop. Hey, calm down. This is what she did to me. Hey. Okay. I would love to calm it down. She won't leave. Okay. Is it Is it her? Huh? Is it? Yes, it's her. Okay. Seems like it might be. Have a seat for me. Yeah. Have a seat for me. Have a seat for me. Okay. Where are you? Put your arms down. Do you want EM? Do you need EMS? Do you need EMS, dear? Okay. Hey. Hey. Hey. Look at me. Look at me. Look at me. You are good. You are safe. You are safe. Okay. You are okay. All right. My name is Leah. Do you know where are you bleeding from? My arm. All right. You know what? Keep this over your head. Okay. She punched me in the face several times. She's been hating me, calling me out my name. This is your house. Yes, mine. Okay. So, how did it start? What happened to that? I found that because I needed I don't have furniture all like that. So, I found that over there in the park in the apartments. She pointed it out. We was coming back from the store. Right. I go over there. I was like, "Oh, yeah. I could use that to mount my TV and you put stuff on there." So, yeah. So, there be no clutter. It's filthy. So, I used a bleach cleaner. It slipped my mind. She was allergic to it. I'm not thinking about that. I'm thinking about cleaning something that is filthy that I just brought in my house. So, the domestic puzzle, it's similar every time. You have to do an investigation just to try to figure out who's at fault, if anybody. She's just being My name is Autumn. Autumn. My name is Leah. Where she cut at? I have no idea. How did you cut yourself, Autumn? I was trying to stand in the door cuz he's got my bank my bank cards and he's got my my work stuff and I have to go to work tomorrow. So, I was slipped my foot in the door and he pushed it really hard hard and it cut me open. All right, Autumn, how old are you, Autumn? Oh, I'm 27. Okay, so we need to get this. We need to get this clothes right here. Are these your clothes? It's like a pretty good gash. Hard to tell with the blur. [crying] Thank you. My stuff. I'm allergic to bleach. And he he used bleach on a on a piece of furniture he found on the sidewalk in his enclosed room. And I was like, "Well, that's childish. Why Why would you do something like that? It's not smart." And you threw a fit and now we're here. Can you pick your legs up for me? So, cops, we don't have the best medical kits. Maybe some gauze, an AED, some oxygen, maybe. But we can wrap you and we can give you a tourniquet. Deep in your nose and out your mouth. All right. You're doing a good Don't listen to him. All right. Just listen to me. Listen to my voice. I'm here and you're safe. Okay? You're okay. This was an accident, right? He did not do this on purpose. He just He said I broke his window. He broke that window. I broke the other window climbing out of it cuz he likes to corner me and I freak out. I don't like being cornered. Her story sounds a little strange. A little off. She's clearing him of any wrongdoing there. She's saying, you know, he didn't do this to me, but also he cornered me so I broke a window and had to climb out. Kind of odd. Are you okay? I'm okay. Okay. I'm okay. He's got a gash on his neck, too. He was bleeding from pretty bad. Hey, Autumn. Do you know where you're at? Yeah. Where you at? I'm a Merin. You're a Merton? So, you know where I am. Perfect. Don't ask me who the president is. I stopped following that forever ago. Fair enough. Fair enough. I love that your sense of humor is there. Who is he to you? Boyfriend, friend. My fiance. Okay. Do you guys have kids together? No. And do you currently reside together both in this home? No. No. He was holding my stuff because um I lived in the fort on Parkside on Main Street, that building that they kicked everybody out of. So, I'm basically homeless. I brought my stuff over here so that it would have somewhere to be. Fair enough. But then he doesn't want me being out running the streets and staying with people and he doesn't trust other people that I'm staying with. So, he wants me to be here, but I can't be here. Yeah. So this all took place in your bedroom or like in the common areas or took place in the whole house cuz like it started in the bedroom. After I moved that over here, she started calling me childish, hitting me, trying to make it seem like I'm abusive, like I'm doing this and the third, but in reality, no, I got you. I don't do that dumb. Okay. Okay. Um, no, I did not punch you. You lying. Hey, take a second. So you're a lying. Hey, Vince. Okay, so you said this those scratches are from her. These are from her. This is from the door. I'm going to have you I'm going to take a picture of him. Okay. Do what if you want. Okay. Your arm is not from the door. It is from the door. Is the same thing as the glass on door, bro. Yeah. It's the same thing as the back of his neck. He's got a dash on the back of his neck. He was pushing with his back. Shouldn't have been pushing your way into my door. Move, man. All right. We need to get a liar. Get them out a shot of each other. Let's walk over here so we don't have to listen to her. Look over here. Yeah, come over here. We don't need to listen to that. Yeah, we got you. Fish is going to accept you. Playing. All right. Off. Hey, she's pissing you off and I get that. You're justifiably pissed off. Okay. She's lying on me trying to hurt my character. She said I'm hitting her. I ain't never put my hands on a female in my life. Are you in cuffs? No. No. But still, it's going to be a report. It's going to be written down and now. And And of course, man. Your first name? Vince. Vince. I'm Leah. You're not in cuffs. People lie all the time. We can see through the [ __ ] Okay, I hope you see it through that [ __ ] over here. We take more women to jail for domestic than men. Okay, maybe in her district that's true, but nationally police departments report all their crime stats to the FBI and they compile the numbers and it's heavily male arrests when it comes to domestics. But she also might be using a tactic here to kind of ingratiate herself to him so that he's more relaxed and speaks more freely. Relax. Stop screaming over over this officer over here, okay? She's only trying to talk to you. I'm sorry. I'm just pissed off cuz I ain't even doing that. She doesn't live here anymore. She said she hasn't lived here. Her stuff has been here because when they got kicked out of Parkside, she she was basically homeless. He got set up here. She left her stuff here. She came to go get some stuff. That's all I got before I was like, I'll go talk to him while she's calm. So, it's just assault right now. I don't know if they were still in a relationship, but even if they even if they were, they have no kids together and they were not residing together at the time of the incident. So yeah, they're trying to establish if domestic violence crime can be charged here if appropriate. You know, if you're married to somebody, substantial dating relationship, you're engaged, you share kids. That's why they're asking those questions. I think in this case, they were engaged. So that's a substantial dating relationship. And it seems like they still have some kind of relationship. So I think you would be good to charge domestic here if you chose to. The window, did you break it? Did she break it? Or is this broken? Trying to keep her from pushing her way into my door. My back is on the door like this and I'm using the refrigerator to break and she keeps pushing pushing and while she's doing she punched me through the window. That's probably why she got the the window was behind you. Yeah, the window was on my back of my neck. Hence why the big ass gash. The one on the right's from that. But the one on the left is from from her cuz she kept she kept barely trying to push her way in and I'm over here like, "No, no, no. Get out my house. Get out my house." I got you. So, are you guys I know you guys said you guys were like engaged or whatever. Are you guys still like engaged? I don't know. I don't want to send her out on the street. She She's going through a lot and I care about her. I'm just tired of this and it's always coming back on me like I'm the bad guy. I'm the problem. I'm this. I'm that. Look, I'm sick of that [ __ ] Look, man. We're trying We're trying to figure it out. All right. Um, and I don't want her arrested. I don't want her thrown nowhere. I don't want her out on the street. I'm just tired of this. It falls on me every time. That's We're trying to figure something out. Do you Did you guys still stay together? Well, uh, right now the only way she the only place she has to stay is here. Um, and you guys were in a romantic relationship. You guys are Okay. I don't know. I don't know what it is now, but I'm tired of it. I'm really sick of it. Did my partner grab your name? Yeah, she did. But I'll give it again. I'll give you I'll give everything I need. He got So, um, I I hear So, um, things are going on. I can hear them yelling out there, you know, before he continues. Having a witness in a domestic violence situation is so great cuz they can be so hard to figure out. A witness can give you a little more reassurance that you're making the right call. Him telling her to get out of the house, but she wouldn't. Glass breaks. I come there to see the the door is closed, but she's I mean the door um the door window is broken, but she he's trying to close the door, but she won't let him close the door. Like she I don't know why. It's probably because she wants the couch to come here while he's out there. So he was trying to close the door. She was outside trying to come in basically is what you're saying. Yeah. If you see that cut right there, it's probably because of that. Gotcha. And about the h about the hip the um when he he tries to dump her out just to get because she won't get off the property. So he tries to dump her. Did he do that before she was outside? Like he took her uh No, no, no. He No, he did that like way after. Okay. Okay. They This was just going back and forth the house and everything. Then she starts punching him like she like after she So that happened after she stopped trying to come in through the front door. No, she she was Well, that was more of him trying to stop trying to close the door cuz she wasn't going to move. So, he went out there to um do that. So, okay. I just had to You guys are not in a relationship at this moment, correct? Um I don't know. We were, but we're not. But we are, but we're not. But you're not living together. Never been married. Don't have any Sounds like they are. Okay. I just needed to ver because that kind of changes things there. I feel like a little like a little weird. Yeah, I bet you do. That big adrenaline dump. Yeah, I bet you feel not well. So 13 for DV. Yeah. Hey, Johnson. Yeah. 13 for DV. I'll follow you down. Okay. She ain't going to like that. After we finish up here, we'll come to with you guys. He has like marks all over his neck, his face, his hand, his hands, and stuff. Dude said they were both raw. Yeah. And didn't you say roommate said she started it? Yep. And she said she got the gash, but it's not from him. Okay. Yeah. She she made that very clear. He did not cause that gash on her arm. Okay. Do you guys want me to do the care while I'm down there? And make sure she's okay. Don't let her do no dumb [ __ ] to get arrested. Yeah. Look. Look. Well, uh, do you want to go inside and Too late for that, my man? Calm down, man. I'm I'm calm now. Just Okay. uh not more on the word side cuz it's [ __ ] But I don't know why I give a about somebody who can't even have a conversation. Who can't even Oh yeah, if it's not her way, it's the highway. It's bull. So whatever happens happens. But I don't want to be the reason why she gets arrested or any of that. I just wanted her out my house for the moment. I know. I got you. But that's just what that's why we're just explaining how the route we're going to have to take this. Okay, we'll get back to her charges in just a minute, but first, a woman called the police to tell them that her ex had been stalking her all the way from another state. I'll get the tags. Let's keep an eye on him. Keep your hands up. Hey, man. Keep your hands up. Go over to him. Yeah. You You live in here. You stay over here, man. Do you live here, sir? No, sir. Okay. What brings you over here this hour of the evening? I was traveling and I was getting some rest. Traveling from traveling the roads. You need to be very specific, sir, because right now we got calls that there's someone out here that shouldn't be. And if you're in a place at a time that you shouldn't be, you can be arrested. At the same time, sir, like there's no uh there's no no lording. Yes, there is. If you do not live here and you're in a place at a time, you don't belong. I don't have no felonies and I have nothing. You just said you don't live here. Okay. And you took arrest traveling. That makes no sense. Trespassing. There still no trespassing law. So sir, I'm not doing nothing wrong. So you need to dispel my concern about why you're here. Sir, but I'm not doing nothing wrong. Do you have business being here right now? Sir, I don't have no business going here, but I can be here because it's free land and I don't private property. But sir, I I'm not doing nothing wrong. I'm just getting some sleep in my truck. You have ID? Yeah, I do. But I I didn't give I didn't give no suspense to uh look at my truck or do anything with my truck. Nobody's going in your truck. And I didn't give no uh no no reason to or or no proper cause or no no I didn't I didn't say yes, you can look at my truck. Am I looking in your truck, sir? Sir, I'm just giving I'm just saying he's obviously given some thought to what to say to the police if he gets caught, you know, checking up on his ex. He's doing a bad job. And I'm saying like who's giving these things because I could do like I have I'm Yes, sir. Like, I'm not doing nothing wrong. Did you hear what I said? It is illegal to be in a place that you don't belong at a time that's not normal for people to be in here. I I never heard that law, sir. Well, we have it here in the city. So, he's referring to a city ordinance, which is great. Cities and towns can make bylaws and ordinances and have the cops enforce them. This guy's not familiar with it. But I live in I live You're in a gated community and you have no business being They gave me access, sir. They gave me access. You don't live here. You have no business being here. Says the law. If you don't live in here, we got a call about somebody matching your description, knocking our doors and stuff. You know nothing about that? I don't know. But like what So let me ask you this since you said that. So what crime has has been committed? I've explained that to you about three times already, sir. What crime has been committed? You said you said a person can't be here, but So that'll fall under problem. time of the night. You said you don't stay over here. You're sitting in the car. So, that's what we're trying to figure out. Do you know anybody that stays over here? I don't. You don't? No. No, sir. That's okay. I'm I'm on the I'm on the road. I'm I'm trying to get some sleep. Okay. So, you have no business being here at this hour that you can tell me, right? I mean, I can leave. No, I'm going ask you a question. You have no business being here? You can turn around. Yeah. You're under arrest for Lord and Prowler. Go ahead and put your hands behind your back, sir. So, I think they're kind of going with their gut here. They have some information about why he's there. They're not really trusting his explanations. And maybe in another scenario, they might just kick you loose, tell you not to come back. But here, they want custody of this guy. Don't resist. Giving you ample opportunity to explain your business here. I was speaking to my tried to tell. Okay. And we'll put that in the police report. 231 returns for that subject out of Maryland. Suspended class D Charlie. Suspended operation. Right now, what we're going to do, I'm going walk you over here to my truck. Sit back here. before we got one in custody. You're going to get a pat down real quick before you get in the car. Okay. Okay. But I didn't do nothing. You want me to turn your car off? I didn't do nothing. You want me to turn your car off? No. You going to leave it there? No. You can leave it right there. I didn't do nothing. Definitely doesn't want him going in that car. I didn't do nothing. All right. You going to sit back? No. No. I need to somebody sit back in the back seat. I didn't do nothing. I'm going to ask you the last time to have a seat in the car. If you want to talk to me from there, we'll talk so I can be locked in here like You are under arrest. Yes. What? You're going to jail. What? Have a seat in the car, man. We're not going to sit here and discuss it. Smell the alcohol in his breath. So, um, and I'll we can talk to them. Let's not have contact with them while he's here. Okay. Um, I can talk to him if you want and run him down. However you want to do it. Okay. Um, I'll talk to them and explain to them about getting a a TPO against this guy. Okay. Cuz he needs one. Yeah, definitely. in a truck situation. Just if you want to leave, just pull past those doors. I'm going to go in there and I'll turn it off. That way it doesn't set him off in the back of your car. Okay? And I'll just give you the key and you just put it in his property. Okay? That's what's going to happen. Hey, he was hiding a a handgun. There's a pistol down here right behind his seat when he was leaning back at. That's what he was hiding when he was moving around. I can see I can see it from the outside here. It's in the floorboard right here. So, he came over here to to do business cuz he had this thing out. This changes everything. This is actually terrifying that that guy was there. We know why he was there and what he planned to do. This happens all too frequently with um ex-husbands, sometimes ex-wives. Terrifying. Um I see what appears to be marijuana in the uh center console, so that might get us in the car. Anyways, another charge. Um, I'm going to call Foreman and see what see what else we want to do with it. But you're good to go. Just book him on that for now. The LMP, I just had a feeling on this one. You know, somebody coming over here, the notes in the call said that um banging on the door and and he, you know, he shouldn't know this address. It's been a year, that kind of thing. Um, yeah, that pistol's laying right here. And I saw him kind of like back. Oh yeah, he was he was moving it. That's why that's why I went around the other side. I couldn't see in there. He I was like, he's moving around way too much. Too much. Yeah. Good move grabbing this guy. Oh no. What's going on? Get your seat belt put on. For what? Safety first. There you go. Okay. Safety first, buddy. Don't touch my truck. I know you been in my truck. Have a good night, sir. Yep. No promises. All right. Hello. Hello. Is this Miss Sharita? Yes. Hey, this is Sergeant Bradley with Domey Police. Hi. Hey. Um, I'm not sure where your apartment face is. We made contact uh with this gentleman out here. Mhm. and uh we arrested him for loitering and prowling since he could not give us a reason that he was here on the property. We did not tell him that you called. We just said that we received a few phone calls from residents uh stating that someone was banging on a door and you know kind of things like that. I I don't know the situation between you guys. How how serious is this issue? It's it's really serious. I mean, we got a divorce and but I haven't seen him in over a year. But, um, he's like blocked, but he's like finding ways to reach out to family and I was trying my best have him find out where I live. I have no clue how he found out where I lived or how he even got in the gate. Well, I mean, getting in the gate is is not too hard to follow another car in. But, yeah, how how he found you would be uh something. I mean, there's no telling. I mean, you can go to online places and pay money and they'll they'll search they'll search open records databases. So, I mean, that's possible as well. Is there been any violent past between y'all? Yeah, I mean that's that's kind of like that was the icing on the cake, which is why I left him. Um, and like since I've been here, I've been wanting to file a restraining order, but he hasn't, you know, known where I live, so I haven't done it. But now I'm just like I I wish I would have done that. Not saying that it would have changed anything because he's really unstable. Say that again. I mean, he went way out of his way to find you. He's drunk and he had a gun. Could have been a very bad situation. Um, but yeah, it's definitely been a past of a lot. Like 5 years we were married. It's just been a lot. So, was there ever a history of violence, like physical violence or threats of any type of violence? Yes. Are you able to talk talk about it right now? Yes. Um, I know like a few months ago he called me blocked cuz like I said he's blocked but he would block his number to try to contact me and he will say like if I move on then he will hurt the person that I move on with and also kill me. I I think I actually have that still recorded on a device. But I have videos as well of, you know, when I the last time we did live together and the things he was was saying and doing and he's always drinking and like it's just a lot. So yeah, definitely need to meet up with this lady and get some better charges on this guy because he's definitely on a mission here. Again, I'm not I'm not trying to get in your business and and push you for things. From what this short encounter that I just had with this gentleman, I think this is a very serious situation out here with him with what you've described him tracking you down. He should, you know, and and I want, you know, I just want to give you the information that you need and and uh let you know how serious it is that I really think you need to go get a protective order against him. I would try to do that as soon as possible. This charge that we have on him is a city misdemeanor. It's different all over the US with domestic violence laws, but usually you can get a emergency restraining order. So, the courts are closed or it's after hours. You can call an on call judge and get the order. Like this cop like in the area where I work would be able to go to this woman, interview her, they call a judge together, and the judge would issue the order right there and then. It sounds like where he's working, they don't have emergency orders, and she's going to have to wait till court is open. It's only going to hold him for a short amount of time. I have seen some things out here that concern me a lot with what this situation is. Three months ago is when he actually made the threat and he was making them so much like he said it more than once which is why I pulled out my laptop and kind of started recording him and I actually have him saying that he was going to like kill me. And I know you said I mean that's that's definitely something that takes serious but he was saying it. I can't even just defend that. But yeah, he said that tonight could have been the night. Okay. And he called you from a block number. He has to be out because he's blocked from my phone. It's been so much. Also, when I left, it's a lot of information. But when I left, um, like I said, it's a year. It's been almost a year now. He killed my dog, our dog that we had. Like he killed the dog, and he admitted that on the phone as well. That's insane. And a huge red flag. obviously killing house pets. [music] Who's next? How did he kill the dog? I have no clue, but he called me after to tell me that she was gone. And I think it was out of his anger of me leaving, too. Um, and he said that he killed it just out of anger. Do you know if he owns any firearms? Yes, he does. How many? I don't think he own He doesn't have like He's not registered, but um I know at least two. Uh what kinds? One is like a big shotgun and then the other one is like a handgun that I started to see when I was like starting to, you know, work my way out of the house. It was like new to me. I don't know if u you know what other steps that you would want to take to protect yourself. Um, I don't know how you feel about firearms or your mother because when we got him out of the truck out here, um, it appears that he had a firearm u real close to where he was sitting and uh I think he put it down when when we came up here. Um, he smells like he's been drinking tonight. He was uncooperative with us. So, it doesn't it doesn't take much imagination to figure out he's up he's up to some serious no good over here. She's taking this like amazingly well. He just told her someone was there like an hour ago to kill you. They had a gun. They were ready to do it. He's actually playing it pretty cool. This is also very important. Um I'm like pregnant [clears throat] and I don't know if he found that out, too. Yeah. I I don't know, but I mean he you don't come over here at 2:00 in the morning to someone, you know, you know, just just to say hi. So, um I just want you I'm not trying to scare you, but I want you guys to to understand the seriousness of his actions. Now, the unfortunate part is, and the reason I was asking some of the questions I'm asking is to see if there's any possible way I can charge him with something more serious to keep him in custody longer. You know, if he's a convicted felon, then being that I can see a firearm in plain sight from where he was just at, then we're going to charge him with that tonight. But I I won't know that here for a minute. I'm going to have to run his criminal history. I'll try to keep you updated. I don't want to keep calling you all throughout the night. Okay. Thank you so much for your help and thanks for not telling him. Another charge. What is that? The hell was that? Weird. Oh, there you go. There's the shotgun. Wow. There's the handgun. But very least, they have the two guns that she knows that he owned. So, that's good. Please. Hey, how are you? Hey. Okay. So, to to charge him with what we need to charge him with, we need to be able to list you in the report um to charge him with the stalking and other charges that are going to hold him in jail longer than a city ordinance ticket. So, um we can put your name in the report, like I said, in the supplemental section. Um, so it won't be on the initial face sheet of the police report, but if we don't have you listed on the report, we have no way to charge him with serious charges. Like I said, I'm not trying to scare you when I tell you this, but he had a handgun and the shotgun all in the car. He drove down from Maryland. Is that correct? And I think that if we if we charge him with stalking, that's going to start the process that you guys can get the uh the protective order that that needs that needs to be in place. a protective order is just a piece of paper, but if he comes out here and violates it, that again gives us a more serious charge, aggravated stalking. Um, so I don't know how long he'll be in jail on on the warrants that we're going to hopefully try to get for him tonight or tomorrow, but if we don't get some sort of state charge out of this tonight, he's just going to have a a city ordinance ticket and he'll be out within what, 24 to 48 hours. Hopefully with the state charges, we can hold him long enough for you guys to get that protective order and he can be served while he's still in jail. Yeah. And if he if he does, you know, come back out here banging on your door, you know, if it's some if if this door knocks and it's not someone you back window, don't go walking up into it looking at looking out the door. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, those thing those doors aren't bulletproof. Scary like that. minutes, but okay. So, you have anything called app. Good luck to you. Thank you. Good luck with the baby. Autumn was charged with domestic violence. However, the charges were dropped shortly before the trial began. The state left them open, however, so they can be revisited in the future if need be. The stalking man was kept in jail for 541 days. When his trial finally happened, he was sentenced to two years in prison, but reduced to the time he had served in jail. He was made to have no contact with the victim, no firearms possession, must complete a domestic violence intervention program, must complete a mental health evaluation program, and he was banned from returning to Dakob County or any counties within 50 mi.
