We hate dealing with cases that involve kids, but these parents are some of the worst I've ever seen. You've had fights three days or longer that have gotten physical with your dad? Yeah. Wonderful. We have a woman who abandoned her two-week-old baby in a parking lot and couldn't seem to care less. Where is the baby? We left it at the hospital. And a teen who had to secretly call the police because his father was treating him so poorly. I guess there was some kind of argument between you and him. >> Okay. Okay. But first the cops were called when a woman found a newborn baby alone in a parking lot. Okay, so what happened exactly? I was I was parked over there and I saw the So it's over the caller. The couple pulled in and then it was a young man, African-American, with a with a girl, very tall, skinny. I thought they were going in. I was driving by. The next thing is I drove by again cuz I was going to leave and I saw that the car had sitting there and I was like Did they pull up in this car? I don't I'm not sure if it's this car or not, but it was right here. Okay. Yeah. So >> Okay. This isn't her baby? No, no, no. I I was the one who called. Did you just drive by and saw this? Yeah. Or kids. >> I was driving. I was parked and I was driving by and I saw it was sitting here. Did you see the parents? >> Yes, it was African-American. And they both walked away? They had a car, so I'm assuming they drove away. They just left the baby or Is the baby okay? Is he >> Yeah, she's okay. She was crying and then I picked her up and just laid her by her. So Approximately maybe two to three-week-old baby was left unattended in a stroller in the parking lot. Probably enough to get CID involved in. So I I'm just trying to be clear. You're You were parked. Yeah. Did you see someone with the baby? Yeah, I saw it's Yeah, a husband two of them. Yeah. A mom and a dad? >> Mhm. Were they arguing? No. No. >> Okay. >> the baby in and I went around and I came back and I was leaving and I saw the baby. The baby was crying. I had my windows up. And then you no longer saw the parents. >> they yeah. It's kind of like she saw them Right. putting the baby in the stroller and she like kind of looped the a lot and then all of a sudden they were just gone. She doesn't She doesn't remember seeing if they got in a car or what. So I've heard of bringing a baby to like a fire department. There's sometimes even like a designated safe baby drop zone if you absolutely have to abandon your child. Not ideal of course. Never seen one just left in a parking lot like this. This is This is bizarre. Diapers, water, formula. Very weird. An original caller named Bill. He called in about the female, gave an approximate age, and knew her name. We Yeah, we got to get him back. Yeah, copy. Can we call him back and see where he is? We need him to come back. What's going on? What's going on? This girl had me driving around all day to get help because she didn't have a ride or nothing. All of a sudden she What's going on? Where's the Where's the baby? You're telling him I left him with the baby. Who Are you the father? No. Is he the father? Are you the mother? She's here because Ma'am, look at me. Are you the mother of the baby? Yeah, and he's the father. Where is the baby? He left it at the hospital. I gave him the baby. No. Now I'm lying. Look, let me tell you exactly what happened. Okay. She says, "Take the child to the hospital." Actually, So you're you're fine that your baby is is you don't know where your baby is right now? I'm asking him where my baby is. Was she there Was she there with you? >> You know what? Yeah, I I'm the one that took her to the hospital. Okay. But what she did was she was like, "Come inside with me. I'm going inside." And as we're going inside, she's talking crazy to me. So I said, "Well, I'm done. Well, I'm going home." I start going home. She runs back TO THE TRUCK WITH THE with the baby and parks it in front of the other car. And leaves. How did How did she leave? You see how she's saying she You see how she's saying I'm going to lose it? There's cameras. Listen. How did SHE LEAVE? SHE WALKED OFF. LET'S Let's run it down. How did you get over here, ma'am? Did you walk? So, you left your baby in the parking lot. >> I left him with the baby. The baby was in front of There's cameras. Check the cameras. It's not our baby. I'm not even on the birth certificate. Listen, she's here because Okay. She's here because she thinks Nobody was with that baby. We can agree. Okay. Come on. Let's go. Back to your child. You need to take him back to the child. >> Ma'am, who's on the birth certificate? >> Him. His last name is on there. I didn't sign no BIRTH CERTIFICATE. SHE PUT MY NAME ON IT. It's your last name. Go get the baby. So, you put my last NAME ON THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE? >> baby come out of your vagina? No. >> [laughter] >> Wow. All right, let's be direct. No. Did it Did you have a C-section? Did you carry this child? Okay. And now it is in a parking lot unattended. >> This officer [clears throat] is like all of us in disbelief. The lady is so nonchalant, doesn't really care the baby was left alone, is arguing who the father is. This is crazy. Go get the baby. >> Did the baby come out of your vagina? Stand up. What are you arresting him for? For child neglect. Stop. It's a felony, sister. Okay, well, you're not grabbing stuff, okay? There's cameras in the car. They detain me. Bye. What else you got? >> Anything on you? No. You got what you wanted. I didn't get what I wanted. Yes, you did. Why'd you do this? This is crazy what you did. This is crazy. She was telling me it's not her child. She was saying it's not her child. Somebody switched her child at the hospital. I'm going to take her to HQ. Okay. I'm sorry. What for what? You should be speaking to me, too. Martha, why are you going? Her whole reaction is kind of off. It could be a case of postpartum depression. That does happen to some women and they kind of get a complete separation of empathy from their baby for a while. It's a terrible condition and this could be what this is. Can I get your address number? >> You sure can. 2110. 2110. And my phone. So, today you're driving her around with the baby. The baby has a doctor's appointment. >> The shelter. >> From Vianova? Yeah, cuz she's she's homeless. Everything was fine until this afternoon. She said, "Take her to the hospital." I said, "Okay." I go inside the gas station, I come out and she's walking off with her bag. And I'm like, "Yo, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. What you doing?" Leaving you with the baby. >> with the baby. I tell her as she's walking away, I tell her, "Hey, I'm calling the cops." Agent Imprince? Yes. Okay, so you were the one that called the cops. Okay. >> Hey, I'm calling the cops. Come back and get your baby. And I knew I kind of knew she would come here because this is the person she was with. >> baby anyway? He's a some guy named Carlos. Okay. Can you raise your right hand for me? You swear everything you've told me is the truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth? >> Yes, ma'am. Perfect. Put your hand down. I see this a lot on on these videos. The officer is swearing somebody in. Pretty interesting. We don't really do that around where I work. Usually you would just subpoena them to be a witness in the case and then they would get sworn in in court. But I do like it. It's kind of cool. I'm Officer Merkel with the West Palm Beach Police Department. I'm the person that's going to be taking this case. Is uh this your baby? Your child? I'm not sure, but yeah, I believe so. You sure Okay, you you don't know if that's your child or it is your child? >> he don't really look like me. Okay. You think that is her? Yes. So, what happened today, then? I wanted to take her to the hospital to see what was going on with her. Really weird dynamics here. You cared enough to bring the kid to the hospital, but then left the kid in the parking lot and you're also not sure that it's even your baby. So, you wanted to you guys were going there to go get a DNA? He didn't want to drink a DNA test. Okay. So, as we were walking, he turned he turned around. And I followed him. I went to him and I gave him the baby and I ran away because he didn't understand why would I do that. Well, you gave him the baby. How did you do that? I left the baby right in front of where he was, by the car. Okay. Where did you end up going after that? And then I walked to my ex's house. The way he acted just threw my whole world off. All right. So, you ended up leaving the baby in a parking lot or by his car? Yeah. I wanted him to stop following me and then I was going to go back eventually. I just needed to calm down. Okay. All right. So, you just so making sure I understand it. The baby you put the baby by his car and then you walked away. Yeah. Okay. But you but so you left the baby unattended. Yeah, basically. >> Okay. So, you know, obviously since you're here, I'm going to end up taking you to the jail. It's going to be for child neglect. Okay. Um at the point at this point, your DCF has the kid and your sister's coming to pick up the kid. I'll get you sent to the jail. All righty? Thank you. My goodness. We'll get back to her charges in just a moment, but first the police were called when a father and son get into a physical fight. Hey, what's up, buddy? Hey. What's going on? Can I help you? Yeah. We got a call Mhm. about uh Who called? I believe it was your son. Yeah. Okay. Can he come out and talk to me? And can can you call him out, too? Okay. Getting the shining vibe from this guy. Expecting a Here's Johnny any minute. Here's Johnny. What's going on? >> Well, that's what I'm trying to figure out what's going on. He called us. >> What's going on? Well, that's what I'm figuring out what's going on. Okay? Um I guess there was some kind of argument between you and him. Okay. >> Teenager. Yeah, teenager. I get it. I'll call my son. I appreciate it. Thank you. >> All right. Have a good day, buddy. No, like I need to talk to him right >> an arrest warrant or something? >> Well, I need to figure out if there is an arrest or not, so. For what? There's no arrest warrant. For what? Slam? Yeah, I'm wondering what's what happened. He's a teenager. I'm asleep. No, I get it. I'm just I'm just wondering what's going on. >> Excuse me, sir. I'll call my son. Where is he? He is not here right now, sir. He's not here? Well, he called us. He said there was some argument between you and him, so that's what I'm wondering about what happened. What do you mean? You got an easy job, bud. Okay. Well, yeah, that's what I need to talk to both parties to see what's going on. Okay. Is he not home? No, he's not home right now. Hm, okay. Let me let me see if I can find his number. Thank you. Okay. Yes. Father, are you giving me a hard time, sir? I'm I'm not trying to give you a hard time, either. >> trying to violate my rights? >> Okay. Please. >> Well, we're Will you step off the curtilage of my home? Well, listen to me. I'm investigating something. I'm investigating something, okay? The curtilage of my home. Okay, I got his number. Do you want me to call him? Please step off the Okay. Hello. Yeah. Hello. Hey, this is Deputy Sunny with King County Sheriff's Office. All right. Hey, hey, what's going on? Hey, uh you're the one who called? Hello, yeah, yeah, I called earlier. Okay, are you here? I Yeah, I'm in the back right now. >> [music] >> He's home, but the guy at the door said he wasn't. Was he lying? No. Okay, can you come out? Your father's not very compliant with us, so. Okay, uh I'm in socks right now and the back door is locked, so. Okay. All right, thank you, sir. I'm still I'm talking to him right now. So, when he comes out He is a minor, sir. Thank you. Is there a mother or anybody else in the house? Okay. I'm his father. Thank you so much. Okay. Will you please give me a little space here, sir? I'm not You you have your have the whole door, man. Space. Hey, what's up? All right. Dude, stay away, please. Okay. Okay. Can you give a card, sir? Yeah. Well, I'm going to have to talk to you, okay? Just so you know, this is This is an ongoing investigation, okay? There's You're going to Okay. No, I'm going to have to talk to you like in person. Okay. Well, give me a second. Let me talk to your son first. Please leave your cards right here, sir. Give a card, sir. Okay. Well, I need I need Okay. Jesus Christ. Are you injured or anything? I'm a little bit, not that bad. It's minor. Okay. Do you want the Jesus Christ, Sam. All right, don't close the door, man. I'm right here, sir. I'm right here, sir. Yeah, call your lawyer, but don't close the door on me. He's not all right. Come by. Hey, how are you? I was going to say, open the back Cop showed up to this thing. Guy inside is a little off his rocker. What's going on, man? Why are we here? What's What's going on? Why are we here? Because I got a teenager, sir. That's why. Okay. Well, can you talk to me about it? I have kids. Maybe I understand. Thank you. Okay. So, your your statement is you have kids and that's why we're here. Sir, please step off the privilege of my home. I did ask you for some identification, sir. Keller 102. Last name Keller, badge number 102. Okay. Let me get some paper right down now. Okay. Thank you, sir. Good day. Ah, Samuel. So, we're here investigating a domestic battery, possibly. So, I'd like to get your side of the story. Sir, I've no I've no comments for right now. >> You have no comments. No, domestic battery? Mhm. Father and a son, sir. Yeah. Yeah, it qualifies. So, you don't want to talk to me. >> That relationship qualifies. I understand. Are you saying you don't want to speak to me? Sir, what else do you Is there anything to say? I need to figure out what happened. I don't know cuz you've said nothing of substance so far. What caused the argument? Can I see Can I take pictures? Oh, yeah, this is from yesterday cuz we only He did that yesterday? Yeah, he's fighting here and this is from 2 days ago. We We're fighting in the middle of the street. Poor kid. You were fighting in the middle of the street? >> Yeah, it was bad. This I've explained this to so many people and no one has helped me. I'm just kind of tired of explaining the same thing. So, I'm just I'm so fed up. I'm happy he called the police. A lot of kids, especially teenagers who are going through something like this, they don't want to reach out. They don't want to get their parents in trouble, but it gets to a certain point where the police have to get involved. Can I just show you photos I've been taking of events that's been leading up? This We got into a fight a long time ago. Last time we got this bed where I got injured like this. We got into a fight where I was trying to take a shower in the morning. There was no hot water. And he comes I'm still naked, mind you. He comes breaking down the door while I'm still naked and he tries to hit me. I gave him two black eyes that day. I'm sure if he shows you a photo of that, you'll understand. This This isn't a new thing. This isn't a new thing. A lot of this is just over He's been I found out he's been taking my money which has annoyed me and he's denied it and he's tried charging me for to the office and you're going to sit for 72 hours while we figure out what's going on. Then why don't you talk to me? Cuz that's our only other alternative. I'm not going to sit here and play this back and forth game. >> I know, sir, but this my son. I get it. >> father. >> I get it. That's why I want to talk to you. But if you refuse to talk to me, you can go sit in our jail for 3 days. So, then let's talk. I don't want to leave him. Cuz I do believe he has potential. But he can get like this. Okay. What happened today? Today I caught him drinking and I was like, "Dude, you can't keep drinking like this. Can you please get up? 6:00, can you please get up?" He goes, "The morning, 6:00 p.m., you're still sleeping." I caught him drinking. I'm like, "Dude, can you please stop drinking? It's 6:00. Please get up." Shut the [ __ ] up. I don't know how it escalated. He tried to hit me. I defended myself and that turned him into pushing me into the chair and trying to hit me in the head. Then he moved from the chair and tried to hit me with the white chair that you can see back there just behind him. It's on the floor right now in the kitchen. And he started hitting you with the chair, right? Yeah. I defended myself from the chair. Then he tried to go back. Um it was really fast. Okay. How old is he? He can take care of himself. So, again, if you don't want to cooperate, you can go sit in jail for 72 hours. So, I'm going to jail for 72 hours? If you're not going to give me any part of your story, that's a possibility. Let me consult with my uh attorney, please. I mean, this is not the time or place for that. You only need an attorney if you're being arrested. >> arresting me, sir, tonight? I am not arresting you. Not at this point, no. However, if you don't want to cooperate, you will be held on a 72-hour investigative hold. And then all this stuff on your left arm is from him? Uh today, yesterday, and 2 days ago. So, yesterday they had they said they were had a fight right there. So, you've had fights 3 days in a row that have gotten physical with your dad? Yeah. Oh, wonderful. I mean, it's been like this for months. But it's I don't want to be taken like DCFS. I don't want that to be involved cuz that happened to my brother and I saw Right. how bad that can get. I Like I said, I do believe it can get better. He's just in this weird phase right now and I just need to be away from I can't I can't be near that. This poor kid. You can see how much this pains him to even report this to the police. He even sees the good in his father, hopes his dad could rise to the occasion and be a good dad, but we are where we are. I get that. Um this hap- this has been a story with this family for his entire life. He gets like this during certain important Is your mom in the picture at all? She is, but she lives far, far away. Um the house has been trashed like looks like a homeless person, and I've been trying so hard to fix it. This is what it used to look like before I started cleaning it. Um I've been pissed cuz he's not been helping me clean it, and he just continues to make it worse. I'm like, "Come on, dude. Can you please help me? Can you please help me?" He's like, "Stop. Stop. Just don't clean it. Don't clean it." He tries to fight me when I'm trying to help him. I don't understand it. Give us 1 minute, okay? Yeah. That's just All right, so from today Yeah. all of this is from yesterday. Yesterday? Yesterday. Yesterday, yesterday. 2 days ago. 2 days ago. What are you doing, Brian? Hey. Come here. >> I need you to come out. Am I under arrest? Yes. And what's the charge? You need to come out. >> He knows the gig's up. Yeah. Well, you Yeah, I'll give you a second. Let me put you in handcuffs, and then we will give you We'll write it down for you. How about that? Just walk out. Yes, you can, but we have to put you in handcuffs first, okay? Is there any way we can avoid the handcuffs and get Brian. Brian. All right, be compliant with us. You know how this goes. You've been you you've been that route before, right? I'm going to let you know this now. If this doesn't go smooth, I'm I'm also charging you with obstruction. Excuse me. So, make this as easy as possible. He understands that. Drop the cigarette. Put it out. You may Can you help me out here, please? Man, this is my This is my son, man. Come on. Put out the cigarette. Come on. Put the cigarette out, brother. Tell you what, if you're going to cooperate and you stick to your word, I'll let you finish the cigarette. >> All right, yes, sir. It's a good tactic. I've I've done this myself. I've let prisoners have a cigarette before. They're very cooperative and you're relatively certain it's not going to cause any other issues. It's something you can do to kind of build some trust and help them cooperate. But if you're going to be a jackass I know. I buddy I'm not trying to be a jackass. >> letting you know. Yes, sir. The way you were with me at the door pretty well signaled that you were going to be a jackass. Hey, you don't deserve that. So, if you're going to cooperate, I'll let you finish the cigarette. But we're going to do it out here. Okay. There is no bond. There's no more bond in Illinois. Remember when Illinois passed the safety act? You got to see a judge tomorrow. More than likely, the judge will let you out tomorrow. But you have to see a judge. Can I Can I get some socks, man? And I'm not trying to run, but today >> They're not They have socks for you at the jail. So, most states there is a holding period or they won't let you go at all for domestic violence until you can see a judge. It's a safety thing for the victim until a judgment can be made whether it's safe to release you. Hey, they have everything. Can I Could we save a little time, please? >> They They're >> He's not in any imminent danger. danger, man. This is what it is. Just finish it. Finish your cigarette. And then we're going to do what we have to do. But could you please All right. Could you please stand there? He's Just finish your cigarette and we're going to do what we have to do. >> dad, man. Come on. I get it. That's That's called tampering with a witness. It's not It's best to keep your mouth shut. >> brother. I don't have to tell you nothing. Stop talking to him or we're going to get rid of the cigarette. And yes, just more charges are adding to your So, stop stop talking. I'm not We're not charging you, but if you could stop start stop talking, brother. Just finish your cigarette and then let's get this over with. >> This is my son. I'm a single dad. I get it. >> He's going through some teenage stuff, man. I get it. He's also got injuries. Injuries from what, Sam? Would you Oh, I'm sorry. >> Stop it. Just the cigarette. Who's pressing the charges, you or I? I am. Okay. Come on. Come on, brother. There's no come on. >> Would you please reconsider, man? There I I literally don't have a choice. If I don't arrest you, I go to jail. That's how serious this is. >> sit down and talk, man, over a cup of coffee, please? Please. What what do I without Come on, guy. You know that ain't happening. >> man. Can we please sit down and talk? >> We can go over to my car and talk. >> Well, you have my son there. I mean, you can I can talk three to you or you Talk to me over here. Anything on you that's going to poke me, stick me, stab me? You got any bullets? I want to know. So, I have to ask you some really stupid questions I'm open to all of them. that will sound like I'm talking to a first grader, but Sarge wants me to do it. Okay. You have a cell phone? Yes. Is it charged? Yes. You know how You know how to call 911? Yes. Obviously. Um You have food in the house? Yes. Running water? Little bit, yeah. Bathroom? Yeah. Can you shower? Yeah. You have clothes? Yeah. Okay. So, he's asking all these questions because they're trying to determine if they can leave him in the house and not give him to the state for custody, which is great. I mean, a lot of people think there's a certain age that you can be left home alone, but really the majority of the states in the USA, you have to determine the maturity level. In this case, it's the police doing it and they're kind of helping the kid out so he doesn't have to go into state custody. The teen mom was charged with neglect. Unfortunately, her county only started publicly keeping a record of arrests after August. And the abuse of father was charged with aggravated assault, but there was no records of his arrest from what I could find. Guys, thank you for joining me on this video.
