The Honda accelerated instead of stopping. The vehicle continued southbound, swerving between lanes as deputies followed. Although the Honda never exceeded the speed limit, its movements continued creating hazards for other drivers. >> Yeah, I was on my way to the and she's about to rear in somebody. I'm like, "Oh my god." She I I swear she saw me and she just kept trying to pass this car. >> Speed bolted out. She was supposedly did in the 80s. >> Yeah. So I was like, I think I I'm going to have to stop a car. I think I got a two Ford driver. A sergeant joined the pursuit near Neville Street and moved ahead of the Honda to prepare spike strips. Before they could be deployed, the driver suddenly turned into a business parking lot. All right. Just just relax. Okay. >> I can tell you >> listen. You you've been drinking tonight and it was probably not the best decision. Okay. And then obviously all this happened as well, so it doesn't help. Let's try to take deep breath. Okay. How about we walk over here? That way we're not so close to the roadway. I'm just going to have you have a seat on this push bumper over here. Okay. Here. You just do me a favor and just have a seat right here. Have a seat right here, ma'am. Thank you. >> Sit down. Try to take a deep breath. >> Negative. Um, just make sure you just don't have anything on you and then we're going to go through those tests. Okay. You are you familiar with field sobriety testing? >> What? >> Are you familiar with field sobriety testing? Standardized field sobriety testing. Testing what? >> So there's tests to see if you're impaired or not. >> Does that make sense to you? >> No. >> I am US you the translator for me. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> This is Deputy Emler. She is going to check your person. Make sure you don't have anything on you that you shouldn't have on you. Yeah. >> Uh, >> ma'am, it's in it's in your like this. >> See? See? >> Do you have your thing? I'll >> have you translate. >> Do you have anything that's going to poke me or stick me >> or hurt me? No, >> no. >> That's it. No more. >> I don't need that. makeup. >> I don't know why you're doing that. >> No, >> he's stopping. >> I don't know why you're >> here. I'll take it. We got a brown bag in there. >> Wow. [snorts] The first time in my life. The driver, Narita Garcia Cruz, was taken into custody without further incident. Deputies reported signs of possible impairment, including the odor of and glassy eyes. At the jail, Cruz submitted to a breath test. >> Yep. Feet together and then keep your arms down at your sides or if you're cold. I'm okay with you. You don't have anything in your pockets, right? >> What's Oh, those are your glasses. Okay. You can keep your hands. >> Okay. You can keep your hands in your pockets if you'd like. >> Okay. [snorts] So um I need you to tell me if you understand these instructions. So what I need you to do is using your eyes and your eyes only I need you to follow the tip of my pen. Okay? Do not move your head at any time. >> Your my head >> do not move your head. >> Okay. >> This is only the eyes. >> Only the only Ohos. >> Okay. >> Only the ooh a >> do you understand that? Yeah. >> Do you want me to translate? >> Yeah. She seems like she understands what just >> I I understand. >> Okay. >> A little bit, but I understand. >> Okay. Same. Same. >> Follow the tip of the pen with your eyes and your eyes. Oh my. >> I know. >> We're just going to do the cover us that way. That way you understand >> and that way there's no disputing it. >> Huh? I understand. You see a tip like that. Draw it. Drive it. >> Uh-huh. >> Don't move your head. >> Don't move your head. >> I don't move my head. I see. Uh-huh. >> Okay. I have to have a clear and distinct break. This is a break. Okay. >> Yeah. >> All right. You understand the instructions? You don't have any questions? >> No questions. >> No question. >> Okay. All right. >> Noas. >> No. See, >> I know this. >> All right. >> Okay. >> Mhm. Mhm. >> [music] >> Mhm. See Yeah. Heat. Do you hear it? for [laughter] for you. >> I think I'm I'm good with probably just HDM. >> I have to read this form to you. Okay. What it basically says is that I'm going to ask that you submit to a chemical test, meaning that I'm going to have you um either give me a breath sample, meaning you blow into a tube, or you give me a urine sample. Um, in your case, I think it's probably would be easier just to have you provide a breath sample if you're willing to to where you just blow into a tube and that determines your level of impairment, your level of intoxication, how much uh alcohol you've consumed tonight. Okay? Um, obviously you can refuse that, but your license will be suspended for a year. Okay? So, I have to read you all this information, but I just wanted you to understand the gist of it. Okay? Um, do you understand what I just said? No, >> a little bit. >> Okay. All right. >> Yes. >> Okay. I know. >> I know probably. >> Okay. Thank you. Um >> I understand. >> Okay. >> But you speak a little bit slow. I understand. >> Okay. [laughter] Sorry. Um let me grab a clipboard. The test registered a 0.152 blood alcohol concentration, nearly twice Ohio's legal limit. Cruz was charged with offenses related to impaired driving and fleeing law enforcement and was transported to the Pickaway County Jail. Her vehicle was impounded and no injuries were reported during the pursuit. A traffic stop can change quickly when a driver decides not to stop, turning a routine encounter into a situation involving multiple people on the road.
