This lawn mower man has failed to learn from his mistakes. >> Bro, if you don't have a buzz, I'll beat fleas off you. >> And is out for an afternoon ride on his lawn mower when suddenly he crashes into this mailbox. He backs up and without missing a beat, the hit-and-run mower is takes off. He then picks up speed on the straightaway, but apparently this lawn mower man has failed to learn from his mistakes. We got to see that again. The lawn mower man is on a collision course with the mailbox. As fast as you can say John Deere, the mower plows into the concrete mailbox. And the driver executes a full 360 somersault. Miraculously, he sticks the landing. Well, sort of. He dismounts the mower and is now trying to regain his balance, which could be exasperated by whatever alcoholic beverages he may or may not have already consumed. And that ditch isn't helping matters at all. He gets back on his feet and stumbles towards his vehicle. Or in this case, his lawn mower. He gathers his thoughts and then gathers his thoughts some more and then gets back on the mower. Only problem, it's not moving. That clicking noise? Never a good thing. It clicks some more until finally the mower shifts into reverse. He pulls away and then shifts it into overdrive. And away he mows. Well, the lawn mower man left behind two key pieces of evidence, a pair of sunglasses and Pittsburgh Steelers cap. Now, if last season's performance by the Steelers is any indication, I don't think the guy's going to be coming back for that cap anytime soon. >> Yeah. I would be staying away entirely >> [laughter] >> if I'm if I'm that guy and that happened to me. Um He didn't have a seat belt on. Yeah, yeah, that's that's that's clear. >> [laughter] >> Um there was no seat belt. And what is what is generally the law about driving around in a motorized thing like that under the influence? Are you allowed to do that? >> No. >> So it's a motor vehicle on a roadway. Um that I've heard there's different tails in different states, but some some people say you can't ride a horse and be intoxicated cuz it's got a mind of its own. But that [laughter] guy couldn't find a horizon. >> Myself and three other deputies are on route to an address here in our county. Uh this guy's got a probation violation warrant. It's like we will be taking the back side of the house or the trailer in case he runs out the back and then the other deputies are going to be in the front. He has a GPS monitor on and as of right now he's still at the house. So we're getting ready to roll up here and hopefully take him into custody without any incident. Someone coming at the door. >> The pickup's in the back with him. >> What do what kind of pickup? >> Red one. >> Yeah, red Chevy? >> The red Chevy? >> Hey Ramirez, you want to jump in your truck and drive down there? >> Yeah. >> Does that trail go all the way back to the road? >> I think so. >> out from here. >> There's no out from there? >> No, that cross up there is is where my son is buried. >> Okay, but like where >> That's the only place it goes. >> All the way back? >> It it does not exit this property in here. >> Okay. We getting updates? >> They're pinging it now. >> Is that where it's No, that's the house. Is that's where he Which one? >> I'm guessing the flag is where he's at. >> And we're in the circle. He's the red flag. >> Okay, so here's the road. He's down Okay, he's yeah. All right, let's get in. 145 on 38. Good. Went all the way down to where it dips down. I ain't seen nothing down here. I mean there's a bunch of dogs barking at the very end, but I can't get down there. That copy. I think he's going to be closer more to the road. Um So, the probation officer pinged his ankle monitor and uh he's not on he's on the property, he's just not at the house. So, the thing is he knows this property better than anybody. >> He's like right here. >> Okay. >> last picture I got. So, there's Jade Road. >> That's him. So, he's got to be like right up here. >> I wonder if we can >> You You to get Chase out now? >> Oh, fantastic. So, where where is that picture at again? Is there's Jade? >> Yep. >> So, Jade >> No, he's like right there. Steven, Sheriff's office. Come out with your HANDS UP. YOU'RE GOING TO GET BIT. 45, do you see our location? 145 to 138. I'll be pushing from the southeast from your location into the woods. Hey, I got that red truck up here. There he is. He's in there. >> Get out of the truck. Get out. Get out of the truck. >> Get out now. >> Let me see your hands. >> Stand by, we're making contact. >> GET OUT OF THE TRUCK. YOU'RE GOING TO GET BIT. >> Hands up. >> Get hands up. >> Get on the ground. GET ON THE GROUND. >> Good boy, Chase. He's a good boy. Boy, watch that guy. >> Get yourself up. Let's go. >> Let me grab [ __ ] out of my door real quick. >> 138 Chris, you show that to me. Did you call your officer? >> That's what it's saying. >> Yeah, did you call her? >> What? >> No? Chilling in his truck, didn't give much of a fight, so that's good. They're confirming on his warrant now and he'll be probably having a peanut butter and jelly sandwich tonight at the Curry County Jail. >> We want to show you something a viewer named Mara S sent our way. It happened in Grover Beach, California. Officers investigating a collision involving a Ford pickup that had collided with another vehicle, but when officers attempted to talk with the driver of that pickup, he took off. And then this happened. The driver of the pickup crashes head-on into the patrol car. Which they say crash was intentional. The officer behind the wheel was sent to the hospital for minor injuries. That's a good The officers car, which was brand new, had been in service for only a few weeks. It was badly damaged. As for the driver, well, this is him. 62-year-old Steven Thomis was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail and charged with attempted murder assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer and DUI with injury. The DUI may explain uh that particular mug shot, which will certainly probably end up in one of these books with all the crazy mug shots. >> Yeah, that one's kind of hard to beat. >> Yeah, yeah, yeah. >> [laughter] >> Master Deputy Sloan Simpson there trying to catch up with the vehicle that apparently ran a stop sign. >> 10-4, the last four were 0338. >> They ran the stop sign back there, too. No, I'm 5 10-38. Uh go ahead and show me 10-0. It's going to be on a dark colored Dodge Charger Applebee Lane. We're like at >> All right, so uh I initially tried to pull him over for running a stop sign. And I mean ultimately, I mean before I even lit him up, he started speeding up through the neighborhood, driving reckless. So, I lit him up based off his reckless driving and he just kept going. Uh and ultimately, he's saying that he ran over this little bit of marijuana right here. So, uh We're going >> They're now searching that car, the guy who initially just >> And I just saw it was a dark colored car, so I come to check the tag. And then he uh He was He was driving real reckless, running the stop signs and stuff through the neighborhood. He got pot scattered all up front. I'm going to take it from him. Uh >> Curtis, we heard a reference to uh P width there. >> Yeah. >> That's possession with intent to distribute. So, that's anything more than personal use and less than trafficking. So, right there in the middle. We use packaging for sale and things of that nature. >> Uh >> My lieutenant's 100 possible intoxicated driver. >> 40 Okay. Okay, I don't know. I'm also out with Adam, too. Howdy. >> How are you? >> Doing good. How are you? >> Really good. >> Good deal. Where are you headed? Cuz I wasn't doing anything, bro. >> What the [ __ ] are you talking about? >> What do you mean? >> I wasn't doing anything, bro. >> Okay. Well, you're under arrest. >> You're on some [ __ ] [ __ ] you. You're a [ __ ] >> Okay. >> [ __ ] ass You're just another [ __ ] hiding behind your back cuz you're a [ __ ] bro. >> I got you. >> Yeah. I wasn't doing anything. >> You got [snorts] to search his to rest of his pockets. >> For what? For what? >> You're under arrest. >> I wasn't doing anything, bro. I was trying to get the [ __ ] home. >> Stop. All right. Quit. >> Bro, you're a [ __ ] bro. If you don't have a badge, I'd beat the sleeves off you. >> What if he wasn't wearing sleeves? >> I wasn't doing anything, bro. [ __ ] y'all. For real. [ __ ] bro. >> Watch your head. Yeah, I will. Uh so, right now we're conducting inventory of the vehicle. Um He's with me going to jail, making sure that he doesn't doesn't have anything he shouldn't or nothing of value. Uh Buzz balls. >> [laughter] >> Th- These are empty balls. Uh two empty cans, obviously he's had quite a bit to drink, but make [snorts] sure we're not leaving a gun in there or Got some tuna, you know. So, well, I was like ground, we take him down and he pulls me out this way and my So, my leg just slides across the pavement. I was like, "Whoa." >> Hey, at least he jumped in. >> Yeah, my bad. >> That's what I was saying. Ripped my pants, dude. He wanted to tense up and wrestle with the police, so he will be uh absolutely spending the next I don't know, 4-hour hours, how whatever the mandatory hours is in jail and uh hopefully he'll think about his life choices. >> So, we're headed to a vehicle flipped over into a canal. Unknown if anyone's trapped inside of it. >> Can't hurt the female, too. >> Hold up. Hold up. >> Watch your face. >> I got you. I got you. I got you. I got you, bro. I got you, bro. >> Why don't you go outside and think? >> Watch this sticky, bro. >> We're stuck in thorns. >> You got it. I'm good. I got you. Just give him back. >> All right. >> Cuz I'm trying to understand why I'm a half up then. I didn't even do anything. Like, I'm literally in the back seat. Like, literally. No, I'm not. I don't have any drugs, honestly. >> So, this your car, your mom's car, who is driving? >> My mother's car. I wasn't driving. >> You were just with her? >> Huh? >> Who was driving? >> It was all three of us. >> Okay. >> Who are you, man? >> Huh? >> Who are you? I'm sorry. >> Oh, baby. I was up at my house and I heard boom boom boom. >> I didn't know if you were a family member or one of these. >> No. >> Okay. All right. I'm safe. And about every Nobody didn't get hurt, huh? >> No ma'am. Everyone's fine. >> Corporal Hart, I don't know if he's telling them trying to hide stuff or not, but uh he found couple reasonable size baggies of marijuana. Um he's checking the area to see if they threw any more anywheres before we got on scene. >> So I'm I'm getting charged for something that I didn't have nothing to do with? >> Well, cuz unless someone else claims and says it's theirs, we have no way to prove whose it was. >> y'all, right? And I heard y'all speaking to each other. I can hear what y'all were saying. >> Yeah, we was talking. I was asking him was he okay cuz he was sitting there. I was asking him was he >> y'all stuffing. He came off. He was He started to spin sideways here. His front end caught this fence and he skateboarded that uh concrete all the way down. >> How fast were y'all going? >> He was He was going at least about what? 40. I'm going to keep it real with you. I'm going to keep it real with you. We were going at least about 40. >> All right. That's >> But y'all just Dukes of Hazzard a canal. Y'alls Y'all There's no There's not a snowball's chance in hell y'all were going 40. >> We were going around the curve fast. >> You might need to multiply that by two and you're about right. They all refused the EMS, but uh they're going to end up getting uh summonses for possession of marijuana. Waiting on tow truck to figure out how they're going to tow this car from the other side of the canal. We're going to get the summonses written up for them and get them cut loose. >> Cuz it looks like there's a pursuit going on there. Lieutenant Kristen Riddle here. All right, one of our deputies just called out that he attempted to stop a car and it's currently fleeing. Woo! Going 130 mph on 26 westbound. I'm not sure we're going to be able to catch him, but we'll try. Come on, guys. See me. See me. Okay. 130 is crazy. Oh god. >> She's now on the side of the road because she's now in a position where they believe that the pursuit is behind her. So she's now waiting for it there. >> Copy 10-15 to a vehicle still going. >> What you going to do? What you going to do? >> Copy speeds 120 at the dirt park. Copy passenger park. Copy at the next exit. >> 102's here, but if you can pass me up, pass me up. >> Copy take it. >> What do you think we're going to do? >> Central 102, speed's 114, 26 still. Car B, speed's 113. All right, let me open the road back up. I'm going to open the road back up real quick. >> Okay. 10-7 10-7 1. >> 10-7 1. >> Well, >> 2762 701. >> That ended about as best as we could ask for. Um sounds like he sideswiped someone on 26, so we've got someone checking on um their condition now, but good hit on stop six, ended this safely. Everyone's taken into custody, so we'll just uh run him, see what's going on with it, and that's it. It's a good night. >> I went all the way down North Main Street. I went all the way down North Main Street, and then they said, "Oh, he got hit by stop sticks." 10-48. I was like, >> I also wanted to be known who started this. >> Who did start it? Was it you? >> No. >> Bro, >> And and and >> I made two wrong turns. I went I got I got on Eastbound. I was like, "I'm going to get in on the chase going Eastbound." I had to reverse and go back down North Main Street. >> Who here went to To sticks? search. >> I don't know. >> I would It had to be someone on uh Jedburg. >> Oh, was it the trooper? >> was a trooper there. >> There was a trooper. I didn't either. >> I mean, you dropped like >> I was sitting on Jedburg just peeping waiting for him to come through. >> All three >> There's There's an open container, too. So, he's finally getting >> to get out. >> Huh? >> They're refusing? >> She did. >> No, he What I want to know This He got out the back seat. >> Oh, he did? >> He got out this door and got on his knees like he wasn't driving. Well, IF YOU DON'T >> STOP PLAYING. >> COME ON NOW. THAT WAS A GOOD OKEY-DOKE. That was a good try. That was a good try. >> At least At least it was a >> He said the 4-YEAR-OLD WAS DRIVING. >> ALL RIGHT, THEY GOT HIM. >> HELLO. >> But kind of infuriating to see him get out of the car and seemingly and and particularly the woman blaming the police for going in with weapons drawn >> Good job, bro. >> in a situation he created. >> It is, and and I think Tom can vouch for this. This is something we have seen all too often throughout our careers and even here on On Patrol Live. You have a suspect who puts his 4-year-old child's life in danger along with the woman he's in the car with. And then they have the audacity to act like this is the police's fault for what they're doing for their job. And of course, during the pursuit, they don't know that child's in the car because that is a factor that like you as a supervisor, we have to evaluate when we're chasing this >> person. But, you know who did know? The sand. >> Exactly. Yeah. >> And I'm hoping that they go ahead and put those charges on him as well. >> You're not a willing participant, okay? I understand that. I understand that. But, when something I know. Just listen to me. >> Why won't you stop? >> I don't know. >> You don't have anything on you. You don't Why wouldn't you stop? >> But, when this happens, we have to get everyone out of the car safely before we walk up and get Yeah, she's okay. One second, okay? We're done searching the car. We'll get you out in a minute, okay? Well, well, well, let you call her in just a second, okay? All right. Can you cover me up, please? Yeah, I'm about to shut the door. I'm not going to leave this open. You're good. Um, so this is the kid's mother. She says that she was screaming at him to stop the whole time, said he's got a license, she has no idea why he was running. There's no open container in the car. Um, she was pretty much in fear for her life the whole time, but she's okay, kid's okay, so we're going to figure out a little bit more and worry about some charges here in a few. >> regular iPhone charger? Like the old school, like the lightning cord? >> Well, if that's true, he could have additional charges here for kidnapping, etc. >> The 4-year-old. >> Yeah, she's right here. I just got her a separate motion. >> Good news is that child's okay. No one was injured. We see there's open container. We heard them say there was an open container in the car. There it is. Let's see if as they search the car, we'll find out. Is there something in there that he was running about? >> I'll get it from your wife. And I'm going to hit you with another charge. >> You don't want to give us your name? >> I ain't going nowhere anyway because you ain't sitting here listening to me. >> You're going to jail. >> You sitting I I I ain't understanding. >> Can you give US YOUR NAME? >> WHY ARE YOU Why are you trying to sit here and bamboozle me like, man? >> I ain't bamboozling you. Everything I told you is a lie. >> you were driving 130 mph with your daughter in the car. >> My car ain't even reach 130 mph. >> I'm not going to listen to anything you say cuz you are being disrespectful. Do you want to give us your name or no? We'll book you as a John Doe. I don't care. You won't go to bond court for at At 3 days. >> No, well, then I'm giving you my name. >> What's your name? >> Man, listen. Talk to me real quick cuz at the end of the day, my child mother and my child ain't got nothing to do with this. >> You put him right in the middle of it by running from the police, bro. >> I did. I did. >> That's irresponsible and you're putting your child in danger. >> I did. >> What's your name, man? >> Jamal. No, I ain't got nothing on nothing. All I got to feed the stock, man. That's all I got. >> What? And you just do it again? >> No, I ain't going to do it again. The whole thing is is that I got scared. When I saw him when I saw him roll up on me, I wasn't thinking that oh, he was rolling on my car. And then I seen oh, I get over and then he's getting pulled over with me. So, I'm like, what with me for? So, then I'm like, okay, then I stop. He stops. You got the wrong car. I KNOW YOU GOT THE WRONG CAR. >> THE wrong car. Clearly, if you're running from the police, we ain't got the wrong car. We got the right car. >> hey, let me tell you one thing. I'm scared because at the end of the day, if you look at my previous mug shots, I have a beating on my skin. >> Now, I know. >> I have a >> I know. I know. I know damn well. >> You Oh, no.
