on april 22 2022
an undercover police officer arranged to
purchase 15 grams of methamphetamine
from a man for four hundred dollars in
la crosse wisconsin
the man was identified as 35 year old
matthew smitchek
during the controlled by the undercover
officer was assisted by an on-duty
officer who was monitoring the
transaction from nearby
shortly after the exchange matthew
became suspicious about the transaction
and accused the undercover officer of
setting him up
the conversation could then be heard via
wire escalating and at one point the
undercover officer was heard telling
matthew to let go of their arm
the officer became fearful and advised
the safe word to indicate their safety
was at risk
matthew tried to force him toward the
vehicle in which he arrived but he
released the officer when an unmarked
police car parked next to them

matthew was charged with felony counts
of manufacturing delivering
methamphetamine false imprisonment and
misdemeanor resisting an officer his
cash bond was set at fifty thousand
