On August 14th, 2025, officers with the Orlando Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a blue Tesla for failing to display license tags. Within minutes, the encounter escalated from a routine stop into an arrest. Why do you not have a license plate on the back of the Tesla? This is a brand new car I just purchased. I'll leave my name solely for the purposes. >> The constitutional right to travel allows a person to move freely between states, but it does not eliminate the requirement to have a valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle. In Florida, anyone operating a vehicle on a public road must have a valid driver's license and present it when asked by an officer under Florida statute 322.15. Roadside refusals do not pause enforcement. In this case, a supervisor allowed another individual to drive the vehicle away, a discretionary decision that can carry potential liability if an accident were to occur afterward. Sovereign citizen style arguments have appeared in courts for many years under many names. Not one version has prevailed. The outcome remains the same. Roadside defiance leads to arrest while legal disputes belong in court. Ultimately, the encounter resulted in an arrest for resisting without violence along with traffic violations including driving without a valid license, no tag displayed, and failure to provide valid registration and proof of insurance.
