over the course of a couple weeks Juan Martinez put the absolute SmackDown on jod Aras but before the verdict comes out before the jury goes to deliberate jod who has been talking way too much this trial I don't think I've ever heard any possible killer talk this much during any trial at all ever you said it right there No One Believes a word out of your mouth why do you keep talking she decides to do a final plea against the death penalty let's see what jod says I warning severe manipulation is coming it is coming Jody did it jod did it oh it's it's so nice I don't have to say allegedly sometimes I got to say allegedly over some of this stuff Jodie did it okay she did it it was malicious she tried to get away with it then she lied about it and then she basked in the Limelight of all the attention she was getting and don't forget Jody's weird she's a weird person if you don't give me the electric chair I will donate my hair for the rest of my life if you love somebody you don't break into their house and then murder them you just sat here a week ago under old and said you didn't do it what Jodie some months back while the first phase of this trial was ongoing my mom visited me just like she'd been doing every week since trial began why does this sound like a poem she told me that after leaving the courthouse she was idling at a stoplight and she happened to look over at the car next to her and Travis's siblings were in that car my mom and I were silent for a few moments when she finally voiced exactly what I was thinking she said I know they're going through hell yet nothing drove that point home for me more than when I heard them speak last week I never meant to cause him so much pain I never meant to cause them so much pain okay so now that you that you're guilty you're like okay I did it but because right before this she was saying that she was not involved in this no jury would find her guilty she didn't do it when Steven said he read on Travis's 3x5 card that it said call Steven and that he never got that call Travis used to write out his day on a flash card the last one he wrote said to call Steven I never got that call Jody no no the other reason why I just am not buying Jodie crying right here is because Jodie in my opinion wasn't in love with Travis I think she was obsessed with him I think she was obsessed with him and she couldn't control her Obsession and and she wanted him to pick her she wanted him to love they didn't know each other long enough for her to love him and like also if you love somebody you don't break into their house and then murder them he had been concerned about my health and wanted to fly me to his house and help me quit smoking never got to go I know that's because of me oh that's a weird thing to say and when Samantha showed us the last picture that she took with Travis this was the last time I saw Travis he talked to me and it taking this picture even though I was in PJs it makes me cry every time you know what else is annoying while his siblings are doing their Victim Impact statements she's crying along with them as though she's on the same side with them that is so manipulative you didn't shed a single tear during the rest of this trial I'm so glad he talked me into taking this picture I will cherish it for the rest of my life I know it's because of me that that will always be the last picture that she'll ever take with Travis throughout this trial I've avoided looking at Travis's family for a variety of reasons that I won't go into I typically avoided eye contact Travis comes from a family where they all sort of look a lot alike so when I see their faces I see Travis and I see the man that abused me and I don't want to look at that oh but now we're crying now we are in tears now we're crying oh Jodie Jody Jody Jody oh you're so sick but I wondered where is his grandma is she here I didn't learn until last week what happened to her Samantha said that Travis was the glue to their family around Thanksgiving last not last year in 2007 Travis called me he was really upset he said his grandmother was ill and frail and that he didn't know if she was going to make it he said he didn't know what his family would do if she didn't make it because she was the glue to their family to know now that both are gone and that I may have also inadvertently induced her passing destroys me oh my God stress does do that every time I've had the thought or desire to commit suicide there's one element that is always almost always caused me to waver my ego they're sitting right over there they're my family no no the fact that she's trying to act like she's so close with her family is so funny because they never spoke out for her like in the beginning she said my mother who visited me every week stop the C did she at times I've lost track of that element for example the incident I testified to when I took my Razor apart at the cisu county jail I managed to convince myself that they would get over the pain with time and that in the long run I was doing them a favor by unburdening them of my presence she's claiming that she did try on a l herself I wrote a bunch of them goodbye letters addressed specifically to each person and in the letters I didn't Focus so much on explanations but on how much and why I loved each of them then I wrote a general explanatory letter to help them understand my decision at that time I saw it as taking myself off of life support I'm sorry did she just describe an un alive letter as a general explanatory letter to help them understand my decision uh I didn't know a lot of anything about prison at that time and I didn't think it was fair to expect my family to have to support me for the rest of my life I didn't know then that if I got life instead of death I could become employed and self-reliant I didn't know that if I got life there are many things I can do to affect positive change and contribute in a meaningful way in prison there are programs I can start and people I can help and programs that I can continue to participate in if I was in jail I don't know if I would sign up for jod aras's self-help program I'll share a few examples that I thought of oh my God this is oh I did see this I I've seen this part for trial this is crazy selection my hair was past my waist oh my God and I donated it to Locks of Love the nonprofit this is hold on guys we're about to Skyrocket into delusion I think I have seen a clip from this before it's where jod Aras tries to keep the jury from giving her life in prison by saying that she's going to start crafting and different programs in jail and help other prisoners I like spoiler that's where I think this is going and by that anying jury selection my hair was past my waist my God and I donated it to Locks of Love the nonprofit which creates wigs for cancer patients who lost their hair in fact that was my third donation to that organization since I was arrested if I'm allowed to live Inon I will continue to donate to that Organization for the rest of my life if you don't kill me if you don't give me the electric chair I I will donate my hair for the rest of my life on to the next slide over the years I've spent in incarceration I've received many requests from women to teach them Spanish or American sign language because my case was pending I just didn't have the time in prison I will got to just let the video play sometimes I pause just to shake the feeling because my case was pending I just didn't have the time in prison I will if I'm sentenced to life I will live among the general population of women and I'll be able to share my knowledge of those subjects with them the ones who have a desire to learn also I may even be able to start classes if I get permission I'd like to implement a recycling program the women's prison in goodar houses thousands of women and each week huge loads of I'm sorry is she like campaigning for class president or is this a murder trial these are insane things to say her parents were right she's weird she's she's weird this is the person that y'all are talking about some girl boss like this is the girl that ran for class president and she was like didn't even make it into the preliminaries if I get permission I'd like to implement a recycling program the women's prison in goodar houses thousands of women and each week huge loads of waste are hauled off to a landfill a substantial portion of that could be kept out of landfill and recycled instead it may even create new jobs for the people there this is one small thing that could have a far-reaching and positive impact on the community and on the planet there's a higher rate of illiteracy in prison than in everyday Society I know that reading has enriched My Life by expanding my knowledge base and opening my eyes to new worlds and different cultures I can help other women become literate so that they she's going to help people to their lives she's going to help of literacy I'd like to start a book club or a reading group something that brings people together in a positive jod Aras proposes book club in jail if you don't sentence her to death constructive way so that we can share and recommend other good books and stimulate discussions of a higher nature additionally I've designed a t-shirt additionally I've designed a t-shirt if I get permission I'd like to implement a recycling program i' like to start a book club or a reading group I can't do this what is this shirt going to be immediately in my head I'm thinking it's going to be a black T-shirt with an apple that has a little green worm coming out of it and it says something like learning is caring so it's a t-shirt a t-shirt um of which 100% of the proceeds go to support nonprofit organizations which also assist other victims of domestic violence some people may not believe that I am a survivor of domestic violence oh they're entitled to their opinion okay I'm supporting this cause because it's very very important he didn't even like you he didn't date you you guys like weren't dating you were not in a relationship women that were actually in relationships that they could not Escape how dare you there's going to be women in jail that she's trying to Pedal this story to that were literally in relationships they couldn't escape they have been in relationships with actual like abusive partners and Jody's just like I'm supporting this cause because it's very very important to me these are only a handful of examples I've never been to prison that's personal experience what it's like there wow but I'm certain that after I arrive I'll likely find many other ways in which I can contribute to the women there these are just a few of my ideas about how I can make the school better but I'm certain that once I get into the position I can find many more ways to help I'd like to share with you now a few things about me and a few things about my family oh my God show and is it's giving show and tell when I was little my mom took a lot of pictures of me I'm my first child she almost she she had her camera everywhere and she would take a lot of pictures of me when I was first born Selena ISS near the coast and so it seemes a lot of overcat days but when it was sunny she would take me out to the backyard and turn on the sprinkler she wants the jury to see her as a human before they send dress myself a few years later um Carl came along my little brother and we became Inseparable when we were little my parents took us everywhere including SeaWorld here and Hawaii why do she we were little my parents took us everywhere incl these are like not great pictures of her she but my Fondest Memories with him are of us goofing off at home on a lazy Saturday just making a mess of a living room in our pajamas when I was 11 years old and the slide is backward I apologize when I was 11 years old my little sister Angela was born 4 weeks early I think's blinking there I was so excited to have a baby sister I watched my mom's stomach grow I watched Angela come into this world and after the doctor swaddled her he turned to me instead of my mom and said do you want to hold her first if I was the JY Aras or her defense attorney this is not the angle that I would have gone like this is embarrassing but then also it might have worked because I'm sure the jwelry was like well we can't kill a crazy person something's off these are very schol pictures and on occasion my family and I would get together for family portraits such as these in nth grade my family and I moved back to WIA but I still went back to Santa Maria periodically to visit friends this is Patty she was my best friend for years they have to the jury has to she was here last week to testify on my behalf as you heard Mr NY tell you in opening statements but she didn't return today because she and her nine-year-old daughter were threatened and harassed she came back to the state okay I had to I just had to look up like how is jod doing in jail right now this article came up and it says jod aras's former cellmate says convicted murderer is a flirt with a lot of hate what no way there's a I need to watch this show there's a show on Lifetime called uh not an advertisement show on Lifetime called cellmate secrets and then they have different episodes jod Aras see lifetime actually has the I get a lot of emails randomly where like people that tell me information from jail I there's I get a lot of interesting things in my inbox but obviously I don't regurgitate them like on you know stream or videos or anything because I I have no way to verify right but lifetime actually does have the ability to verify if somebody was like jod aras's cellmate or you know were they were in the same prison as her or something like that this person oh my gosh that's so now I have to watch this show like cellmate Secrets what a good show this is when jod finally dyed her hair blonde Daryl's X I haven't seen him since June 3rd 2008 I hear he's much bigger now taller than me okay let's just be clear on something I don't think Jody's Family likes her so let's keep it moving sister following my arrest I wanted so much to avoid trial not necessarily the outcome although that's naturally not something I was looking forward to but trial all of the graphic mortifying horrific details paraded out into a public Arena instead I was hoping to go quietly into the night whether off to prison or the next life but with the amount of attention my case received early on I felt in my ignorance that it was necessary to speak out I got on TV and I lied I lied about what I did and I lied about the nature of my relationship with Travis it's never been my intention to mign his name or character in fact it was a goal of mine to preserve his reputation I didn't want to drag out Travis's skeletons or mine and explain my experiences with them I didn't want to unveil all of those ugly text messages and emails and that awful tape all these things which now stand as a public and permanent testimony of the darker aspects of our relationship to 18 strangers in front of tra's family in front of my family in front of what feels like the whole world it's never been my intention to throw mud on Travis's name when I took the stand I was obligated to answer the questions posed to me and if you'll remember many times I was quick to defend him in the same breath I love to Tris and I looked up to him at one point he was the world to me this is the worst mistake of my life just the moments where she admits that she actually did it are so comical to me because you just sat here a week ago under oath and said you didn't do it for weeks weeks it's the worst thing I've ever done it's the worst thing I ever could have seen myself doing in fact I couldn't have seen myself doing it before that day I wouldn't even want to harm a spider I'd gather them up in Cup oh my God I have to go a harm spider I'd gather them up in cups and put them outside to this day I can hardly believe I was capable of such violence but I know that I was and for that I'm going to be sorry for the rest of my life probably longer I was horrified by what i' had done and I'm horrified still in many ways my family has also you know what also is interesting she doesn't address at all about how she lied to the jury the media the general public at all for the past couple months she just turns around and says like okay I did it and I can't believe I did it I wouldn't even kill a spider like I think it's interesting how she doesn't even take a moment to say like you know I lied for the past couple of weeks because I was so horrified by my own actions that I just didn't want to accept it or something like that like she just doesn't even bring that up at all she doesn't bring up the lying she just like it's like okay now let's move on to this it's so weird their pain is fresh because they only learned about it 2 weeks ago the moment the verdict was read the moment their hopes of ever welcoming me home someday were dashed my dad who's here today was in California awaiting anxiously in front of the TV my mom came to visit me after court that dark day she had spoken to my dad on the way over and she told me that in the 34 years that they've been together she's never heard him cry the way he did that day I've caused that pain I've caused them to hurt that way and I will concede that with Travis's family theirs is a much greater loss and I can never make up for it it's my hope that with the verdict you've rendered thus far that they will finally gain a sense of closure Steven said he doesn't want to look at his brother's murderer anymore I don't want these nightmares anymore I don't want to have to see my brother's murderer anymore y yeah I O I don't want to especially especially looking at her up there playing victim for what doing this High School presentation for what I don't want to see that don't nobody want to see that I don't want to hear his name drag through the mud oh my gosh if I get like he won't have to I've made many public statements that I would prefer the death penalty to life in prison I didn't hurt Travis if I hurt Travis if I killed Travis I would beg for the death penalty do I even have to give commentary on this video is there even any commentary needed I mean I just feel like every line speaks for itself in full Technicolor if I had my choice I would take the death penalty because I don't want to spend the rest of twice she said years ago that I'd rather get death in life and that's still three three I believe death is the ultimate Freedom so I'd rather just have my freedom sooner as soon as I can three don't don't give me four should prefer getting the death penalty to being in prison for life yes that's four each time I said that though I meant it I lacked perspective until very recently I could not have imagined standing before you all and asking you to give me life to me life in prison was the most unappealing outcome I could possibly think of wow I thought I'd rather die but as I stand here now I can't in good conscience ask you to sentence me to death because of them because of your family that doesn't asking for death is T amount to Suicide either way I'm going to spend the rest of my life in prison yes it'll either be shortened or not if it's shortened the people who will hurt the most are my family I'm asking you please please don't do that to them I've already hurt them so badly along with so many other people I want everyone's healing to begin and I want everyone's pain to stop thank you I just want one of those big buzzers why do we find people that are lying to our face or manipulating us why why is it so interesting why is it so fascinating is it because they they present like a like a like a game of cat and mouse to find the truth and they keep saying oh you didn't get it I'm innocent and you and you're like trying to like does it does it ever does the gap ever close I don't know what it is and I don't know why I can't look away but all I can say is I didn't expect her to put on a whole classroom presentation in her plea for life
