you know what we're about to just watch this one and I'm not going to tell you what it's about oh what's in the box not until you give me what's in the you Bo do not look at the title do not look at the title but it was just posted 10 days ago and it has 2 million views my name is Rob Russell and I am the corner in Kan count we are here today to bring closure to an incident that originated in 1978 this case started many years before it was made known to us they're going to tell you what they found in a second I say that like I know everything that's in this video I don't I just rather don't look at the title on November 12th 1978 a citizen James Skinner of vavia was renovating his residence at 239 East Wilson in bet he's renovating there's a renovation going on knocking down a wall of the residence Mr Skinner discovered what appeared to be a human skull between the studs of the wall Mr Skinner immediately called the bavia police department can you imagine you finally sit down to do that home renovation that you and your wife have been talking about for months and you you crack open the wall and a skull comes out here's Johnny Mr Skinner immediately called the bavia police department and an investigation was started at that time DNA and genealogical records were not as advanced as they are today so options were limited oh my God P did an incredibly thorough investigation so they originally found the skull in 1978 right right is that what they said gen was in thorough investigation with what they had available at that time several outlets were contacted to include National Labs museums as well as colleges and universities the most that could be obtained at that time was from a university Professor who surmised that the skull was from a young woman around age 20 dude they're about to ID this girl and I'm so C ious how do you think that they ided a a skull from like 200 years ago like what kind of Records unless it was like a wealthy family or or maybe just looking at the records of who lived in the home I'm I'm not sure but that sounds too easy right so I love good police work I don't know about you guys but I'm hoping that we hear something interesting teeth Bal okay all right let's see let's see was also determined that the skull from a young woman around age 20 it was also determined that the skull was from someone prior to 1900 oh Pavia police searched records for missing persons and no additional information was revealed after the exhaustive search and investigation the case grew cold on March 10th 2021 employees of the bavia depot Museum they was bored during covid they was bored 2021 2021 employees of the bavia depot museum were cleaning and making room at the Museum when a box containing a skull was found not knowing where the skull originated Museum of employees called the bavia police to report the finding bavia PD informed uh excuse me performed a search of their records and found the original 1978 report oh okay no additional evidence was recovered from the search hold on they took the skull out of the man's wall and just put it in a museum unidentified I mean I guess so maybe like a scientific Museum or something I I learned new things about the way the world works all the time because I felt like that should be a box at the in the in the county sheriff's office the bavia police no additional evidence was recovered uh from the search the bavia police department then decided to appropriately remand the skull to the K county corers office for for consideration of the investigation thank you please return the skull the next day we continued the investigation and because the case was mentally over 40 years old I decided that the Cold Case team was best suited to investigate this incident Deputy Gabriel Allison was assigned as the lead investigator I started the Cold Case investigative team in July of 2015 to review old cases in response to citizens who had legitimate questions and concerns in relation to previous equivocal death rulings upon reviewing existing evidence and and chasing down leads for 2 years we became aware of a company called aam laboratory in Texas this company performed a relatively new investigative technique called forensic investigative genetic genealogy or we'll call it fig fig I feel like that was too many words they could have just said a DNA investigation I would have been like I know exactly what the he means this is the same procedure that was used to catch the Golden State killer in 2018 oh by the time we had heard of them aam had already solved over 100 cases across the country using this process Our Hope was that if fig could solve these cases then maybe a profile could be established for ours Although our case was much older we placed Our Hope in aor process wait that's actually really sweet they they usually use that service to identify Killers but they thought maybe they could build a DNA profile for this unidentified person that was never really laid to rest that that's also really you know for the Cold Case Department there's no family members anymore advocating for this person there's no followup they just are like hey let's try I really like that though our case was much older we placed Our Hope in aam's process aam graciously offered to look at the skull to determine if they could obtain any DNA from the skull oh even though it was so old there's our after several weeks a informed us that they were able to she looked like the daughter of the Colonel from KFC that's the first thing I thought after several weeks Al informed us that they were able to obtain some usable DNA that they could test and if they were able to obtain a profile oh my God it could be run through their database where members of a family with similar ID could be discovered aam said that if if we would like to do this procedure the the the funding required could be obtained through a crowdfunding site as a means of obtaining the required fees needed I felt that the public would be interested in helping in the solution so the crowdfunding option appealed to me so in December of 2023 a press release was sent out about the unknown identity of the 1978 found skull with an appeal to the public for their help with the help of the media many of you honestly I I I like the progress you're making here I love that we found her in the wall I didn't give up on her I deed her I want to know why she was in the wall that's what I want to know also I've never really heard of people being found in the wall makes me wonder if there's more people in walls you who are here today and the generous individual citizens who answered that call we were quickly able to to gain the funds necessary to perform the ancestral match with uh the DNA from the skull within two weeks of me officially authorizing the testing the ancestral match that sounds like something you might hear from twin flames University while they live on the cast hold on let me go back a little bit The ancestral match with uh the DNA from the skull within two weeks of me officially authorizing the testing and genetic matching of the skull aam sent a report to us stating that the profile had yielded a match not only did they have a match but also a tree living relatives yes make contact with the assumed family lineage members for confirmation we reached out to the second great grandson of the person in question and he submitted DNA to a to confirm a DNA family match the grandson's DNA was confirmed as a match we now know the skull found in the wall in bavia as Esther Granger dude her name would be Esther Granger like I mean perfect match Perfect Fit Esther Esther was born Esther we found you on October 26th okay this is about her 1848 in Indiana wait oh wait there's something so sweet about they found her almost 200 years later and put together a slid show about her life about us her life okay let's take a also yes she dude yeah why do they make her look like Esther from that movie what's the name of the movie Esther was born in on October 26th 1848 in Indiana 1848 in 1865 at 16 years old she married Charles Granger and after a few months became pregnant with their first child dude we really are in 2024 on the internet because my first thought was and how old was he when she got pregnant with her first child and he didn't say it though hold on the tuna Mayo you had the same exact thought Mayo was like how old was Charles we were like let's get him like too many of us have dated old men listen I know we're very can I just say really quick we're very heavy on the age Gap stuff online lately almost annoyingly so because there's the people that bring that they're like oh I'm better than you because I'm bringing this up or something like that but like for a lot of us like actually dated an older guy that in retrospect we were like bro what the [ __ ] is wrong with you it's really good that we call this stuff out because when I was younger I thought that dating older guys was cool I thought that and I'm just being straight up I feel like a lot of people had that experience I thought I was cooler or like more mature because this older guy liked me because we weren't in a point in society where we were shaming older guys for dating girls who are literally in high school so like if we had this culture now where those guys were getting shamed I would not have been younger and thought thought that this older guy was cool you know like we're like calling it out now that they are not cool cuz when you're yeah I I I know it's annoying sometimes when we're like how old was he or something like that but I'm like just genuinely curious cuz it happened it happened to me way too much like bro some dorks she was 22 oh when she passed yeah yeah I was going to say no she was 16 in Indiana in 1865 at 16 years old she married Charles Granger and after a few months became pregnant with their first child in in May of 1866 Esther gave birth to a baby girl but lost her life soon after due to complications from child birth what she was buried in mville Indiana leaving behind a husband to care I'm confused in 1865 at 16 years old she married char and after a few months became pregnant with their first child in in May of 1866 Ester gave birth to a baby girl but lost her life soon after due to complications from child she died from the child she was buried in Maryville Indiana leaving behind a husband to care for their newborn daughter in honor of his of his deceased wife Charles named the baby girl Esther the same name as her mother oh the question remains wait if she died in 1866 in Indiana how did she end up in a wall of a house in bavia yes we will never definitely know exactly but with records you going blo on me like that it's still a cold case if I know who died we've come to a common sense Theory okay okay we believe eser was a victim of grave robbing what grave robbing was quite common in that era oh okay as it was quite profitable the grave robbers made the equivalent of 3 to four months earnings for an average person work working 60 hours a week one body every few few months would give a grave robber a reasonable living which is why it was so attractive at that time because they were bu dangerous although it was illegal many law enforcement agencies did not enforce it justice was relegated to Vigilantes many of whom were family members of the deceased many riots occurred in response to known grave robbing incidents across the country and several Hot Potato Boogie said you want ghosts that's how you get ghosts that is true that is true occurred in response to known grave robbing incidents across the country and several several perpetrators of the crime were murdered one such Riot occurred here in Cain County in the city of St Charles in 1849 in an incident called Richard's riot which is a separate Esther was not part of that right again there is no absolute answer to how Esther ended up in that wall or where the rest of her body's located but being a victim of grave robbing does fit the bill since discovering Esther's identity we were able to make contact with Esther's second great-grandson Wayne spiler Wayne has been a great asset in helping us to determine Esther's identity oh we are very honored to be able to serve his family by restoring a sense of decency to the life and death of his second great grandmother with the approval from her family Esther Granger was laid to rest in bavia at West bavia Cemetery in a columbarium space donated very kindly wait I trust Nel cuz she went to school for this stuff she said Bose grave robbing was popular as a way for medical schools to get cavers apparently a city of bavia Wayne spiler gave an appropriate eulogy to his grandmother he never physically knew however stated he felt he knew Esther because he had such a great relationship with his own mother and grandparents oh hi eser through them the positive identification and probable theory of how Esther's remains were found in a house in bavia was surmised through an intense investigative process we are detectives sworn to uphold and investigate the truth behind those who pass on from this world although the entire office and our partners worked together to conclude this investigation I would like to specifically thank the following people and agencies special thanks to De to Deputy Gabriella Allison she's been the hand wait whole wheed said anatomical study was viewed as a sin who said that rule who who dated a doctor and was mad about it I need y'all to I need y'all to like figure figure some stuff out get in there get in there
