Today's video starts after officers in Tyler, Texas respond to a reported theft at a Dollar General. With a detailed description of the two women involved, officers begin searching the surrounding area and it doesn't take long before they spot two people who appear to match that description. The breakdown starts now. >> Come here. >> Come out of the road. >> Come here, both of you. >> I don't have to come here. >> you do. Come here. You are detained. >> Wait, cuz you can't detain me cuz this is my clothes. These are dirty clothes. >> of the roadway. >> I don't have to step out of the roadway. >> Yes, you do. >> No, I don't. >> Yes, you do. >> No, I don't. >> I'm investigating a shoplifting. You're stopped. You are detained. You try to leave >> stop You can't detain me for shoplifting. >> Yes, I can. >> The officer is trying to move this conversation out of the roadway, giving him a safer place to conduct the investigation. Her refusal turns a simple positioning request into a back and forth, making basic cooperation an issue before he can fully address the reported theft. >> No, I don't. >> You were standing in the roadway and you need to step out of the roadway. >> I'm walking and I don't have to stop and talk to you. >> I am stopping you. You are stopped. >> How are you stopping me? >> Because you're stopped. >> What am I stopped about? What? Oh, these are stuff two bras are stuff I already had, honey. You see this [ __ ] This [ __ ] is I I already had. This stuff and all. Dollar store don't hold none of this. You want to see my dirty panties, too? >> You can either step out of the roadway or get thrown in cuffs. >> The officer is setting a clear boundary now. Cooperate with the instructions or risk being detained in cuffs. The purpose is to remove the back and forth and make the expectations unmistakable so the investigation can move forward. >> Step out of the roadway or get thrown in cuffs. >> How you going to throw me in the cuffs? You can't do that. >> Yes, I can. >> can't. >> Yes, I can. >> Cuz I just showed you everything in my pocket. I know my rights. I showed you everything in my pocket. And I don't have to show you really nothing. Baby, I don't I don't fool with police and I'm a sovereign citizen. I really don't have to talk to you at all. >> I'm investigating a theft. I have told you. >> And what's I'm six or half a mile up the way from there, you can't stop me for nothing. >> No, I can. >> No, you >> Her attempt to walk away shows the officer that verbal direction still isn't producing cooperation. Watch the officer's response here. He's closing the distance and preparing to take control rather than allowing her to dictate when this investigation ends. >> No, I can. >> No, you Oh. Stop that. Grab me. I'm pregnant. You're grabbing me. I I I'm pregnant you're grabbing me. >> Stop. >> I am three months pregnant. DON'T GRAB ME. THREE MONTHS PREGNANT. DON'T GRAB ME. >> STOP GRABBING MY >> DON'T GRAB ME. STOP. STOP. DON'T GRAB ME. HELP. HE'S BEATING ON ME. HE'S BEATING ON ME. GET OFF ME. PLEASE STOP. GET OFF ME. I'M PREGNANT AND YOU'RE GRABBING ON ME, SIR. GET OFF OF ME. GET OFF OF ME. >> STOP. >> DO YOU GET OFF OF ME. >> At this point, her resistance changes the officer's immediate priority from investigating the theft to gaining physical control. Until he can secure her, he can't safely return his attention to the original investigation or the second woman. Another officer has now arrived to assist. But what happens next IS COMPLETELY UNEXPECTED. >> HEY. QUICK. >> I LET ME GO. I'M I'M EX >> BACK UP. >> DON'T GRAB ME. >> BACK UP. >> GET OFF OF ME. >> BACK UP. >> GET OFF OF ME. GET OFF OF ME. >> SIT UP. YOU'RE going to be in cuffs. >> Let go. Stop. >> LET GO OF MY GUN. GOD DAMN. >> WHY DID YOU EVEN HAVE IT? I SAID >> SHOTS FIRED. >> Once that firearm discharges, the entire risk calculation changes, even after she let's go of the weapon. The officer's strike comes as he's trying to rapidly re-establish physical control and finish securing her. Because after a weapon has already been accessed, allowing the struggle to continue creates an immediate concern that she could reach for it again. >> KILL ME, [ __ ] WHY [ __ ] BACK KILL ME. HELP. YOU [ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ] YOU'RE ON MY STOMACH. I'M PREGNANT. LOOK AT MY FACE. THIS IS WHAT OFFICER DID TO ME. >> SHUT UP. Shut up. You keep your mouth shut. >> I AM 3 MONTHS PREGNANT. THIS IS WHAT THE COP DID TO ME. I'M 3 MONTHS PREGNANT. YEAH, you punched me in my face. You punched me in my >> Yeah, I did punch you in your face. >> AND YOU TRIED TO I KNOW I'M 3 MONTHS PREGNANT. THIS OFFICER PUNCHED ME IN MY FACE. >> I DID PUNCH HER IN THE FACE. Cuz she reached for his gun and pulled the trigger. >> NO, I'M TRYING TO GET Y'ALL OFF ME CUZ I'M 3 MONTHS PREGNANT. YOU SLAPPED ME TO MY STOMACH. >> NO, YOU TRICKED THEM AND THEN >> The suspect was taken into custody and booked into the Smith County Jail on multiple charges. She later pleaded guilty to aggravated assault against a public servant, harassment of a public servant, and possession of a controlled substance. As part of the plea agreement, the resisting arrest charge and the charge related to taking an officer's weapon were dismissed. In October 2025, she was sentenced to 40 years in prison. The Tyler Police Department also conducted an internal investigation following the arrest. Both officers were cleared and returned to their regular duties. What began as a theft investigation changed dramatically once the officer's firearm became involved, forcing officers to respond to a much different level of risk than they were dealing with at the start. What are your thoughts on how the officers handled this incident? Let me know in the comments below.
