Are you Why he got on his forehead?
>> You can't run through the parking lot.
Those kids are the priority, not a car.
>> A lot of these marks and stuff on him.
>> He's got stuff under his arms. Kid has
crap.
>> He's got one on his leg, too.
>> Your four-year-old was out here running
around for 10 minutes and you was in
here sleeping. This is disgusting, but
I'm not coming in here.
>> Oh, well, there's a hatchet.
>> This was one of the worst things I've
ever seen. It was like he's been kept in
there like a dog.
>> In the United States, some of the most
difficult calls officers respond to
aren't about a single heated moment.
They're about the homes parents have
been keeping every single day. Floors,
kitchens, and bedrooms that were never
safe to begin with. In this video,
officers responded to six different
cases where parents let the residence
itself become the danger. Homes with
conditions no one should have to breathe
in, sleep in, or eat in. Trash and waste
left to pile up for months. health
hazards the adults in charge walked past
day after day without doing anything
about them. Each case forced
investigators to document not just what
they found, but how long the parents had
let it go on before anyone else stepped
in. Different homes, different
circumstances, but the same failure at
the center of it all. Parents who were
responsible for everyone under their
roof and who let the home itself become
the threat. On February 22nd, 2023,
Spalding County, Georgia, officers
responded to a hotel room for a welfare
check after staff reported a possible
medical emergency. Inside, they found a
man and a woman living with three other
family members in unsanitary conditions.
I'm Jack and this is Unpopular.
>> Hello everyone.
>> What's going on?
>> If you just go ahead and take a look in
the room, that's Would you let them in
the room so they can see?
>> Yeah, I mean, give me a second. My
wife's right here. Hold on one second.
>> I can't sleep.
>> Is that your wife sleeping in the bed or
another
>> in the bed? That's my daughter clearly.
>> We got a call that one was down. I just
want to make sure
>> at this point to get inside it would be
a voluntary service just to make sure.
>> I figured just in case if anything came
out of it, this is my bro.
What up?
>> She's fine because of the condition of
the room.
>> Oh yeah. Yeah. No, I mean you can see I
got dirty clothes and stuff.
>> That's fine.
>> I could clean up.
>> I'm mainly concerned all the children
are okay.
>> Yeah, you can see that my children are
fine. My wife is in the bed. It's my
six-year-old daughter.
>> You going to talk to your wife?
>> Yes, that's perfectly fine. Ken,
>> come in. Come talk to me. I mean, the
mercy stretch out over time. Come on out
everybody. Come on out.
>> Hi. Hey.
>> You got any more kids in there?
>> Yeah.
>> My daughter and son are asleep. I mean,
I can wake them up.
>> What's going on?
>> I can just look at you trying to make
contact with you. Let you know you got
my daughter right there.
>> Dirty clothes. I mean, dirty clothes.
>> There's clothes behind my door.
>> And I don't need you in my room either.
>> This is my hotel. Well, we're going to
get our stuff together because you're
behind. But the the condition that you
have in this room with these babies IS
APPALLING.
>> THERE'S DIRTY CLOTHES, MAN. There's
dirty clothes, bro. WE HAVE THREE KIDS
AND two
>> and I have to pay to wash clothes. I
have dirty clothes. That's expensive.
And we pay $3,000 a month already here.
>> Calm down, please.
>> Her thing was she just let you know that
she's going to You'll have to be out by
whatever time she says.
>> Well, we're going to be out and nobody
has to worry about the dirty clothes
anymore. And there's no I mean the room
is perfectly fine.
>> Yeah. Nobody's answering us over that
phone.
>> We don't answer the door for nobody
we've never seen before. I've never seen
that lady in my life. So I mean we've
had people that lived here for 6 months
got kicked out just out of nowhere
yesterday.
>> I don't we don't enforce their policies.
Their policies are their policies.
That's not something we inter
99% sure they're doing with the kids.
But I can't find them. They gave me
permission to go make sure the children
weren't which they're not. that I would
really like the opportunity to search
the room because I bet I could find some
because when we asked to go inside, he
said, "Yeah, give me a minute."
I don't have any reason to go in there
without, you know, whatever. So, at this
point, it'd probably just be a defax
case. I didn't see either of the other
two kids faces, but you can see that
kid's got something weird on them. I
don't know what it is.
>> They look healthy, not malnourished or
anything.
>> No, I mean, the daughter's kind of
skinny, but not like alarmingly skinny
or nothing like that. No. Stepping away
to confer, officers noted they believed
that the use of a controlled substance
was likely occurring inside the room,
but lacked probable cause to search
beyond the initial welfare check, having
only been granted access to confirm the
young occupants were alive with no basis
to pursue that suspicion further. At
this stage, officers returned to advise
the couple that the incident would be
documented and referred to child
protective services.
>> All right, team, here is what's going to
happen. I'm going to do a report of
incident just saying what happened here
today. There are some concerns with the
Huh.
>> Just like a police report.
>> Yeah. No one's in trouble. No one's
going to jail. But there are some
concerns with the children, the state of
the room, and the appearances that I'm
getting. So, we're going to report to
defects. Exactly what we saw here today.
>> I mean, that's the necessary because I
mean, we our kids just showed their toys
everywhere and you literally just
stepped inside of the room.
>> Did you see anything unnecessary?
>> Not. It's really dirty in there, but
other than that,
>> what's dirty, though? What's dirty? Cuz
there's dirty clothes.
>> I mean, there's dirty clothes and
there's a couple of dishes. We fixed the
sink ourselves.
>> Good job.
>> We hadn't had the sink fixed in like two
weeks. We fixed it yesterday.
>> We got to be out of the way. Let's get
out.
>> I'm just saying that we don't we have
dishes like that because the sink was
busted and nobody would come fix.
>> Arguers.
There's nothing substantiated. There's
nothing substantiated. We just have to
make a report from our job.
>> It's not personal. We choose our job.
>> Have a good day.
>> Can I get some ID?
>> I don't have an ID. My ID is expired. I
have to go get my ID from
>> You have it or it's expired.
>> It was expired. I mean, it's in my
wallet somewhere.
>> My daughter had it. It's been expired
since May.
>> Just go in there and do your best.
>> We just needed to have a picture.
>> Something with your name and a picture.
>> I don't have it. I don't know. Like I
don't know where it is. It'll take me a
few minutes to find it.
>> Go ahead. Go find it.
>> And if I don't find it,
>> you don't want to give us your ID.
>> No, there's not a reason.
>> Find it.
>> You can run her name.
>> She just
>> I just went to jail because of a ticket.
>> Try to find it.
>> Look, I'm in the business of being as
straight with people as I possibly can.
>> Yeah, you're fine.
>> So, so I'm about to Okay. I am 95%
certain that there's some abuse going on
in there. Okay. Look at me. You don't
answer me yes or no. But if that is
what's happening, you need to stop cuz
you got three kids in there. Okay? And
and if we catch you, there's no mercy
for that. Okay? Any any possession is a
is a felony. You understand that? I
understand.
>> Okay. Have you been to jail before?
>> Yes.
>> Okay. It's not.
>> Have you been to Muscogee?
>> Yeah. I mean, for
>> Have you heard good things about it?
>> No.
>> It's not fun.
>> I don't like a jail person.
>> I will put you there. I swear on my
life.
>> Oh, no. I mean, you will do your job.
Yeah. I mean, you can tell me my child's
diaper is not even fully dirty. You know
what I mean?
>> Where's my brown wallet?
>> She asked me this week.
>> Where's my brown?
>> I know. I got a lot of bags.
>> I mean, it's been since May since I had
it and my daughter had it. So,
>> got a bill or
>> Oh, yeah. I got all kind of stuff.
>> You got anything else? I mean,
>> I mean, this is my paperwork and Tyler.
>> That's my name right there.
>> No, I bet if we could go in there.
>> No, I don't service.
>> Can you explain?
>> And the call came out as a medical call
anyway. So, even if we found some, I
don't think we could charge him with it
cuz he send for help or something like
that.
>> All right. Yeah, just do a referral.
I'll do a report.
>> All right. You had you and your
daughter. I had no idea you had all
these other extra people.
>> No,
>> we can go in the room and take pictures.
That's my room, not their room.
>> That's not how that works.
>> They signed paperwork that says that
they're not a resident. They're not a
tenant.
>> They don't have those rights. This is a
hotel.
>> Can I talk to you in the office, please?
>> I need their phone numbers that they
gave you to make sure they're not lying.
>> I tried to get as much permission as I
could to go in there cuz I bet we would
be able to find some.
knocked out. You been here before?
>> She didn't wake up either. I mean, we
were banging on the freaking room.
>> Yeah, I know. I wasn't. They weren't
even up until I opened the door.
>> So, the female was in there.
>> What's the phone number on file for Mr.
Jeffrey Holt?
>> We're doing a a defax report. We're
sending it to defects. We asked our
youth services if they would come out
and investigate, but
>> All right. Well, they don't have time.
>> Is there a police officer back there
that can um reiterate to them that they
need to leave today?
>> We can absolutely. I mean, she told you
that in front of, you know, to me that
they were going to leave, but I want to
make sure they understand that they are
leaving today.
>> I hope to God you're not doing in front
of kids. I saw the kid was born
premature. There's
>> what happened. You don't have to tell me
what happened.
>> Premature.
>> Yeah.
>> I have no idea what happened. I mean,
this happened, you know.
>> If this is a giant misunderstanding, I'm
sorry, but I really don't I really don't
think it is.
>> I never I understand you're a police.
You have a job to do. You know what I'm
saying? That's why I'm not
>> naturally suspicious of everything.
>> Yeah. I mean, I'm not 75% of the people
who stay here. Excuse me when I say it
this way, but this is how I'm going to
say it cuz I'm blunt and people sell
here. They get allowed to stay here.
They pay their rent. All that's why
management is changing. So now I'm
getting looked at like a idiot. Excuse
me. But I'm just going to be real. I'm
getting looked at like a idiot. But 75%
of people here are pro
>> Well, they're going to pay their bills.
They selling something.
>> I'm getting kicked out. The people, our
friend up here got kicked out. My floor
and stuff is like this. It happens at
night time. I mean, I sit here with my
kids, let them play. I let my kids be
kids. You know what I mean? I can't not
let them be kids. You look where we're
having to stay right this second. And
then she has a problem because she just
now comes in. She's been gone two weeks
and we've been here almost two months.
Never had a complaint. Never had a
problem.
>> I got to run and do this report. Please
take care of those kids.
>> Oh, I am. I've always begging you.
>> All right, brother.
>> Good.
>> Hello.
>> Hey, ma'am. How you doing? I'm sorry. My
name is Officer Eric Straner and I'm
here to report I guess negligence on a
child.
>> And that's the age of the children right
now that you're calling about. How many
children are there?
>> Three children.
Are you in need of immediate assistance
or is something that you're reporting?
>> Okay. Yes, immediate assistance.
>> All right. And what are your concerns
today for the children?
>> We got called for a suspected overdose.
When we arrived on scene, the husband
answered the door. The children and the
wife were not able to be woken up
easily. Um, when we asked to come
inside, the husband went in for a couple
minutes before he let us in. When he let
us in, the the man, the woman, and the
infant were covered in pock marks,
usually associated with use. The child
had what appeared to be ringorm on his
shoulder. And I know there's a a kid in
there that's of school age that is not
currently in school.
>> So, can you spell that for me? You say
it's used. They were covered in what
that usually indicate.
>> Pock marks that are associated with use.
And that was the mom and the baby
covered in that. Correct.
>> And the dad. I got to read some
paperwork on the child and it appeared
it was born premature as well.
>> And you said you got a call about a
possible over.
>> Yes, ma'am. The hotel staff was trying
to get a hold of them and they would not
wake up. They thought they were and
thought they had overdosed. I understand
your concerns today, but can you tell me
in your words right now how this has how
this is harm or affecting the children?
>> I'm fairly certain they're being exposed
to use inside the home,
>> but for various reasons, we cannot go in
there and prove it
>> and this is currently happening right
now. Correct.
>> Yes, ma'am.
>> Um, I want to thank you so much for
calling today. Your time and information
is very valuable to the department. Have
a great day. Okay.
>> Thank you. Following the initial welfare
check, the responding officer called the
state's child hotline to formally report
what he had observed. Pock marks on the
man and woman consistent with the use of
controlled substance along with a mark
resembling on the dependent shoulder. He
also noted a schoolage family member in
the home who was not currently enrolled
in school. Based on that report, a case
worker is now being dispatched to the
property for a follow-up assessment.
This was in there.
>> Yep.
>> Police department. Make sure he's not
asleep again.
>> Hello, police. We need to do a welfare
check again.
>> Okay. Hey, we need to make sure y'all
wasn't asleep again. You wouldn't come
to the door.
>> We were get We're cleaning up.
>> We would We didn't hear you or nothing.
>> I said, "Hold on a second.
>> Deax is here. They didn't talk to
y'all." Okay.
>> Okay. Well, we can we'll come up just a
second.
>> No. Open the door. All the way. All the
way.
>> There's stuff behind the door.
>> You're not going to come being mean to
me, ma'am.
>> Yeah, we have till 4:00 to get out. So,
I mean, we're need to clean our room.
>> Why does this room look like this?
>> Because our kids stuff everywhere.
>> Are you
Why he got
>> He don't have bruises. He's got
scratches.
>> He has what?
>> Bites your back. No, he doesn't.
>> That's actually skin tag.
very different.
>> No, that's skin tag. I know what a bug
bite is. He don't have bug bites.
>> Talking about the baby. You don't
>> My baby doesn't uh lift him up.
>> Okay, you're fine.
>> So, she can see his
>> How long have you guys been living here?
>> For a month.
>> A month? Are you behind on paying rent
or anything? What's going on?
>> I mean, my grandma pays every single
day.
>> Your grandmother does?
>> I'm allowed to tell you not to take
pictures of my kids.
>> No, you can't.
>> I don't live over here.
>> The babies are in here. They're in
danger. This is unsanitary living
condition. They're in danger. This is
like this cuz we're getting our stuff
ready to go.
>> Apparently,
>> and our clothes were like Our clothes
are like that because we didn't have to
pay to wash them.
>> It was like this already. There's
>> our clothes are like that cuz we have to
pay to wash them.
>> Where does the baby sleep?
>> Our baby sleeps in his play pin right
there where I just packed up.
>> My play pin is right there leaned up
against the bed.
>> What's her name?
>> None of your business.
>> What's her name?
>> This is an investigation.
>> Are you from Columbus?
>> No.
>> Do you have any relatives in here that
you know at all?
>> What do you mean? Any relatives here in
Columbus?
>> I mean, no. Why?
>> Because my mom lives in Harris County.
>> Yeah. Well, yeah, she lives in Harris
County, but she's at work right now.
>> She just moved there. Cuz I'm not going
to allow you to leave here with these
kids.
>> Well, she can come pick them up.
>> Call them.
>> Well, our phone is actually busted right
now. It just got broken yesterday. Can I
use your phone? But we're going back to
Alabama. So, I just don't understand why
you're not going to let us allow us to
leave here with our kids because our
room is like this because we're trying
to get our stuff together. We had to pay
to wash our phone.
>> What's your last name?
>> Unsanitary conditioners. You appear to
have track marks on your phone.
>> I don't have track marks.
>> Those are track marks.
>> No, that's not track. That's scars.
>> I do not have track marks. I SWEAR TO
GOD, IN MY LIFE, I DON'T use a needle. I
never have a test right here. You can
pass.
>> I've never used a needle. Yes.
>> I don't have track marks. You
>> don't have track marks?
>> No, ma'am. I mean, my kids are not in
danger. I've never put my kids. Her
phone's about to
>> Can I see your arms? So, do you owe the
hotel money? That's why you got to
leave.
>> No, they making us leave because of
rooms like this. We paid I don't I don't
even remember being behind every day.
>> They were two days behind. That's why
they
>> I don't understand how we're two days
behind. They said we didn't pay.
>> What did these bruises karma on her leg
from riding her scooter?
>> I don't understand this at all. My kids
are not in danger.
>> You can ask anybody.
>> You have a diaper for him?
>> Yes. I I He just got done peeing. She
just literally said that he's warm. Can
you take his doctor?
>> He's allergic to pampers and so I've
been having to put cream on him. I had
the cream right over there.
>> What doctor? Have you been taking a
kiss?
>> Dr. What's your name? Dr. Nichols.
>> Where's
>> I don't like you taking pictures of my
son's man.
>> That's
>> Are you allowed to do this?
>> Yes, sir. Yes.
>> And because he's been laying on his He's
got marks and a little tiny rash right
there.
>> That's not a tiny rash. That's all over
his
>> It's because he's allergic to that
diaper.
>> Get him another diaper.
>> I JUST GOT A WHOLE THING OF THOSE.
THAT'S THE ONLY THING THAT I WHY I HAVE
IT ON HIM right now. See them the
diapers right here. Where they at? Right
there behind him.
>> Yes,
>> we have pets in here. He's in the
bathroom.
>> I was not aware of any pets. It does
look
>> under there.
>> It does look better than when I was in
here earlier
>> because the toys ain't ON THE FLOOR.
>> THERE WAS TOYS ON THE FLOOR,
>> BROTHER. THERE'S ONLY 5 foot of room
here, brother.
>> YES, IT DID. WE LITERALLY CLEAN THIS
ROOM. IT'S KARMA. DO WE NOT CLEAN THIS
room every day?
>> Yes. I mean, I see the kids go out and,
you know, I do see them play on the
scooters all the time, you know, and
they do be out there watching them play
all the time. That's only because she
can't clean while they're in here
because they do dirty something. While
she was cleaning up, he was just
throwing stuff that she was put in the
trash out of the trash, you know, and
they were telling him to stop and he
wouldn't.
>> Ladies and gentlemen, I understand. I
have kids of my own. They are messy as
what I'm saying is this the level that
we have seen today is over unreasonable
>> cuz we're in one room with
>> I know, baby. I know, but this is beyond
what it should be.
>> I never put my kids in danger, right?
They've been with me since day one.
>> Okay, Miss Girls, you ever had a defense
case before?
>> No. Not at Alabama, not in Russ County,
Lee County, nowhere. Sure. Got a
criminal history?
>> You do? Cuz you said he did that out
there in the domestic.
You can open the door. You sweating. You
nervous. It's hot in here.
Open the door. It's hot out here.
Okay. At all. No.
>> You don't have a cell phone at all. It
just broke yesterday or something. Mine
>> broke about a month ago. So, we've been
using the same one. It broke yesterday.
>> Okay. What kind of dog y'all got?
>> He's a pit.
>> Is he here?
>> Yeah.
>> Oh, yeah. They're both and then her son.
>> We have We already took everything out.
>> Where is it?
>> We actually gave it to the people down
here.
>> I don't think Is she here still?
>> Can you go get them?
>> I think she's going to work. Did you
going to work?
>> Yeah, cuz I knocked on the door and
answered. Did they want it so that way
it didn't go bad?
>> You get booze downstairs anytime?
>> Yes, I did.
>> Alabama. You did. So, you don't anymore?
>> They just I didn't get them this month.
That's it.
>> Why you didn't get that?
>> Because I had to go turn in my
paperwork. I had to go up there and turn
my paperwork in.
>> But where?
>> Where's your baby milk at? I'm just
>> in his bag.
>> It's right there in his bag.
>> What about that?
>> Right there.
>> Can you open it up and see?
>> You can look at it right there.
>> You got weak?
>> No, I don't need it.
>> You don't need it? No, not right now.
>> So now
>> I buy this one.
>> How you buy it, babe?
>> What do you mean? With cash.
>> With cash. Do you work?
>> No, he does.
>> Where do you work at table?
>> Under the table.
>> Under the table.
>> So you don't have what? He don't work.
And Tyler is working under the table for
his buddy. Correct. I said that right.
>> My buddy's dad.
>> Your buddy's dad.
>> My buddy. No.
>> Does he own his own business or
>> correct?
>> We need the baby to go with Miss W.
>> I'll take him. You're not getting
>> No, she's just saying that she's getting
these guns.
>> I mean, okay. I was just saying nobody's
touching my child except for me.
>> During the follow-up visit, the case
worker pointed out marks on the woman's
arms that she identified as consistent
with introvenous use, which the woman
denied having. Officers also documented
a on the infant, which the parents
attributed to a diaper allergy, along
with marks on the family member's
forehead initially described as before
being characterized as bites and skin
tag. Go ahead and put down stuff, sir.
>> Put your hands on your back.
>> Put your hands behind your back.
>> Courtesy to children in the secondary
for negligence.
>> Go ahead and put your hand together like
I have bad wrists. I have bad.
>> Can I ask her a question? Can I talk to
her real quick? I just need to ask her a
question. Which one?
>> My grandmother. Well, she's my
grandmother, too. We'll let her walk
over. Look, we'll let her walk over to
the car and talk to you. We don't want
the kids to see you in handcuffs.
>> Can you explain to me how
>> you are underrest children in the second
degree?
>> What is the second?
>> Which means that there was a form of
negligence used and it's based on the
rash, the lack of food and the state.
>> We had food though and the arrangements
>> all of that and everything.
>> The what? the living conditions, the
sleeping arrangements, the whole room
within his.
>> But y'all didn't see how we really
sleep, man. This isn't fair
>> at all. I'm saying this is not okay for
us to be arrested for this.
>> You'll talk to a judge.
>> So, I can wait.
>> You'll have a a public defender come and
speak with you.
>> I really don't. I mean, my wrists are so
bad. I mean, they're
>> We're able to I can fit three fingers.
>> I'm not trying to hurt you, but I'm just
trying to show you. I'm not three
fingers. They always do my hands in the
front because we're
>> It's against our policy. Okay, go ahead
and have a seat. Bottom first. They're
not meant to be comfortable, but I'm
able to fit three fingers in the back of
those cups.
>> Like they just made they always make a
mess. And we're in one room
and so there was toys all over the
ground. We're having to pay to wash our
clothes. So our clothes are piled up and
they said it was cruelty to children. I
don't understand if there's a bond for
my child.
>> I assume there is one, but I don't know.
>> Do you know what it is?
>> No. No.
>> To children with second degree or
something.
>> So second degree is cruelty to children
as in negligence, which means the
child's needs weren't being met. They
didn't have food, water, or adequate
shelter.
>> Let me tell you something else. I just
gave the girl all of our food out of the
fridge,
and they went there. We didn't have food
for the kids.
>> I don't know what she just said.
>> We gave all this girl this girl down the
hall all of our food out of the freezer
and fridge cuz we were leaving, right?
Well, they went in there before I mean
afterwards and took pictures and said we
didn't have food for our kids. How's
that fair?
>> When's the last time your kids ate?
>> This morning.
>> I don't know, ma'am. Are the kids okay?
>> Yes. There's nothing wrong with my kids.
They're perfectly ill.
>> Where who are the kids with now? his my
fiance's grandmother.
>> Fiance's grandmother.
>> Yeah.
>> Okay. Well, as long as your kids are
safe, that's what really matters. The
rest of the stuff can be debated in
court.
>> As a result of the investigation, the
three children were kept safe and placed
in the temporary custody of a relative
while their parents faced arrest.
Officers charged both the man and the
woman with the second degree, citing
involving food, shelter, and living
conditions. at nearly 230 mi. Just under
8 months later, officers responded to a
case with a different set of
circumstances, but a similar underlying
concern. Where the first case relied on
physical evidence and a hotline report
to bring the situation to officers
attention, this time the conditions were
apparent as soon as officers arrived on
the scene. On October 19th, 2023, Bay
County, Florida, officers responded to a
parking lot following a report of a
family living out of a disabled vehicle
for several days without proper
supervision. What started as a simple
request to move a broken down car would
turn into something much bigger as
officers began to notice details about
the younger occupants condition that
raised far greater concerns than a car
blocking a parking lot.
>> Good morning.
>> Morning.
>> Uh, my name's Rory Drew. I own the
property. I made the call in this
morning. Uh they've been in there about
three days and uh they've had a tough
time of it, I'm sure. I did offer them
to move over to the vacant lot with the
car till they got it fixed for as long
as they needed over there, but my
tenants are having problem with the
family living here. Really neat to get
them moved. I own all the property back
here, too. And it's a well lot.
>> It's that car.
>> Yeah, this is the car. So, I'd offered
if they want to move it over there, we
can push it over there, but uh they just
can't stay in the parking lot. Try to
call it now. See if you can help me push
it. Help me push it off the basket.
>> Can you help me push it over there?
>> I'd be happy to help you move it. I
don't have a problem with that parking
over there. Try to get it fixed.
>> Yeah. I also got some friends coming up
to help move it as well.
>> It only take a couple of us. I've got
coming out. Two of us can move this
thing out.
>> Yeah. Took me the kids in the car while
we moved it. But uh
>> Do you live around here, ma'am? Ma'am,
you keep ignoring me. That's the second
time I asked you.
>> Sorry. I'm trying to get my
three-year-old some
>> Do you live around here?
>> Currently, I do not.
>> Okay. Before you started living in your
car, where did you live?
>> You lived in shift.
>> Kids should be in school. I'm
sympathetic, but kids should still be in
school.
>> You got some ID, ma'am?
>> Yes, ma'am. Give me one second. Let me
find it. I wasn't I wasn't trying to
cause no harm.
>> I understand that. My concern right now
cuz he says he's got a place for you to
move your car to, and we'll help that
happen. But why aren't these kids in
school?
>> I just hadn't had a chance to get them
there yet. Like I said, my friend is on
the way. We overslept and I'm going to
get them and take them to school.
>> Did they go the past couple of days? He
said you've been here for 3 days.
>> Yesterday was no school yesterday for
parent teach or um teacher planning and
then the day before that.
>> What school did they go to?
>> Austin Patterson. Like I said, I'm not
trying to cause no ruckus or anything.
I'm just trying to get
>> Well, why don't you put some cheese on
so we can get this car going here in
just a second. Let me tell my husband.
>> This car is not very
>> What's wrong with it? We think it's the
starter. What is it? If it's not the
starter, then what? Okay. My husband
says the it's a lockout system or
something. I I don't I don't know. I
don't know nothing about cars.
>> Otherwise, 1201 Christelle. That's not
Chipley. It's right over here.
>> My husband's on the way. He'll be here.
>> Where is he at?
>> Over by McDonald's on Harrison. He'll be
here in a few minutes. Is he at work?
>> Oh, he was headed to work, but he turned
around and came back whenever.
>> Is he walking or something?
>> No, he's on a bike. He'll be here in
about 5 minutes. The gear shift thing
is, like I said, he'll be here in a few.
>> Little one's out again.
>> What's up, buddy? Hi.
>> Oh, hello. How are you?
>> No, you can't run through the parking
lot.
>> I tell you this all the time.
>> So, is it really necess?
We're going to push a car through
gravel. We need the assistance.
>> Are you guys living out of the car?
>> Temporarily. Yeah, we're about to get a
camper.
>> Where are you guys from?
>> She likes to ignore your question.
>> Where were you guys staying at before?
>> We were living in Chipley. We were
trying to get find a place here, but due
to a 3-year-old eviction, nobody will
rent to us.
>> So, you all drove down here from Chipley
4 days ago?
>> No, we actually we stayed in hotels and
stuff for the last year. hotels, renting
rooms.
>> You working?
>> Yeah, me and him both are.
>> Where you work at?
>> Um, I work at Applebee's on 21st Street.
>> Does he work at Applebee's, too?
>> No, he has his own little business he
started where he does construction and
remodeling and long skeping.
>> So, is he doing like day labor right
now?
>> Yeah.
>> So, you guys have been staying in the
car in the parking lot here for the last
3 days?
>> Yeah. We came up here to get cigarettes
and then
>> Is the car broken? Only thing broken
that was on it when we got it was the
key was a key was broke off in the
ignition, but it worked.
>> When's the last time the kids have had a
bath and had something to eat?
>> Get in the car. Do not do this. Y'all
got food and everything. Y'all got toys,
water, snacks, whatever.
>> Let me talk to you.
>> The way they are these days, would they
even care? I mean, you can see what they
say. Absolutely. cuz I'm not worried
about her. But the kids need better than
I
>> They haven't had a bad day.
>> They're just kids. I haven't seen
anything excessive. They're just kids
living in a car for 3 days. They're
going to be
>> Y'all need some resources?
>> No, we've got like I said,
>> your kids are sleeping in a parking lot.
I'm She does not want BC involved.
>> So, my friends are on the way. They'll
be here as well.
>> Why do you not feel you need resources?
>> Because we've got money coming in daily.
We've got food. We've got water. We've
got
>> But you slept with three kids in a
parking lot for 3 days?
>> Cuz we're not going to leave our car.
>> What's more important, the cars or the
kids?
>> Both. Cuz I can't get to and from work
when I
>> Well, it's not going anywhere. And your
kids are sleeping in a car.
>> Leaving my car here and going to a motel
room with the kids. I risk my car
getting towed. So, I don't have the
money.
>> He's already told you. I know you've
been talking to him.
>> I'm saying. Yeah. before I had a chance
to lock down. I wasn't going to take
that.
>> But when was that? 3 days ago.
>> I still wasn't going to get Do you see
where I'm talking?
>> But those kids are the priority, not a
car.
>> Okay. Can you not talk to me like that?
Cuz you had a nasty attitude since you
>> cuz you ignore me when I ask you
questions and I don't care.
>> I'm ignoring you. I am trying to focus
on making sure my kids don't get hit in
a parking lot. You've had a nasty
attitude.
>> I have not.
>> You have. You've talked to me like I was
low since you got here.
>> Nope. Yeah, I really don't appreciate
the way you're talking to me right now.
>> After the mother repeatedly declined
offers of assistance and grew
increasingly agitated with the officer's
questions, the responding officer stated
he was concerned enough about the
children's welfare to bring in a
detective who specializes in child
related investigations, escalating the
matter beyond a routine welfare check.
>> Shay's on the way.
>> Who?
>> A detective. The reason why I called
investigations is I'm concerned about
the welfare for your children because
they're obviously super duper filthy. I
literally just told my cousin today that
I needed her to come up here. She's
already here in Panama. It's taking you
to go take six showers.
>> Yeah, but like I asked you if you wanted
to help. No, I don't want help.
>> We're getting a camper here in the next
couple days.
>> Okay, so that's five days and then $154
at a shelter, but I could be spending
that $154 a week. Ma'am,
>> will you let me let me speak? So, I
offered you assistance. You said you
didn't want it. So, you're going to
allow your children to be in a bad
situation for two more days rather than
accepting help. That is concerning.
>> It's not going to be two more days cuz
I'm getting out of here today.
>> You just said two more days a breath
ago. Okay. So,
>> I did I had two more days to not come
out of my home. You said that I'm
getting a camper here in the next few
days.
>> Exactly.
>> But I will be out of this.
>> But so for that reason, we're going to
contact the Department of Children and
Families to try to assess the situation
better. Okay.
>> Okay. And they're going to tell me
everything they've already told me. They
got shelter over their over their head.
They got food and clothes on their back
there. They've got food. They've got
drinks. They've got clean clothes.
They've got blankets and pillows.
They're warm. They're fed every day.
>> Okay. Well, white bread from the dollar
store and cookies and cakes is not
appropriate for just feeding your kids.
It's not nutritionally.
>> The white bread from the dollar store is
lunch.
>> Okay.
>> The cake snack you see in there is for
an after lunch snack. Either way, that's
>> Piggly Wiggly and get it off the little
hot deli. They have all these other
restaurants around here. Dodges is right
there. They've got deli as well. They
get hot food every day. It's not like
they're getting bologoney sandwiches
three times a day.
>> Well, we're going to do our job and make
sure everything's done the right thing
it needs to be.
>> I'm doing my job as parents trying to
make sure my kids are taken care of. And
I just feel like they
>> It sounds like It sounds like you guys
were worried enough to come get
cigarettes, but you're not. You've been
sitting here for three days because you
needed cigarettes, not a situation to
improve it for your kids.
>> Um, if you actually talk to people
that's running this tobacco shop right
here, I've been filling them in every
step of the way. We've already gotten a
new starter. It's already been put in.
It's already been tested and it's still
not working. That's $125 and I SPENT OUT
OF MY POCKET. I spent the money, got the
starter, it's still not working. I've
had people coming out here every single
day since this broke down to try to get
this car so that we can get back on it.
It's not my fault that the car went out
when we were taking a pit stop.
People go through a hard time. That's
what nobody cares about. Nobody cares
about the past.
>> I care. That's why I'm trying to get
your kids. Make sure your kids are okay.
>> My kids are taken care of. My kids are
okay because they haven't had a shower.
>> I just I disagree. Their condition is
not acceptable with you.
>> Because they haven't had a shower in
maybe two days. We were going to take a
shower at her house. Two days. This
lovely man right here in the green
shirt, he's the one that's been working
on my car.
A motel worker who had been assisting
the family stepped in to speak with
officers, describing a room the family
had briefly stayed in as filthy with
food and crackers scattered throughout,
corroborating the officer's concerns
about the living conditions beyond just
the vehicle itself.
>> And I'm not particularly and I'm not
particularly worried about the condition
of the starter or whatever. I'm I'm
worried about the kids because the kids
are filthy
>> and they don't have in my opinion right
cheap white bread and cookies and cakes
is not an appropriate nutrition for
children.
>> Okay. So she's angry because
>> she feels like she's being whatever. I
don't know.
>> We work at a relaxable deal and stay
there.
>> Stay in the car, sweetheart.
>> And thank you.
>> How long has Jeremy been doing?
>> 20 plus years.
>> What?
>> How long?
>> That's the kid Shannon. That's mom right
there in the shirt with a
>> I think
better.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. I said something to her about that
yesterday. I was
>> obviously not been bathed in days.
>> She didn't work till like 1:00 this
morning.
>> She come to my room and bathe them all
and like she just got touched with me
like I do the house in management.
Relax. So
>> Okay.
>> That's how I she got a room there and
then the desk.
>> Yeah. But she's fine. You think they do
you think that they let her do some work
over there for her room again? So the
kids, you know,
>> the room was so filthy.
>> Okay. So what they
>> crackers all
>> everywhere?
>> Okay.
>> So it was the original call because they
wanted out of the parking lot, I guess.
>> Okay. Well, that's what initially got us
here is that they they've been here for
3 days and they want the car.
>> He called the cops car and then he
called DCS because
>> I don't know. I don't know who called.
>> When the parent is doing everything in
their power to make sure their kids are
taken care of, THAT IS THE WORST PLACE
TO spit in the
>> ma'am. I asked you if you wanted help.
You said no. You need help.
>> I know the resources is around here.
That's why I said no. You didn't give me
a chance to explain that I already know
about all this stuff.
>> But you're not. You told me no. That's
not a That's not okay. Let me give you
something.
>> BUT I HAVE RIGHT I'm allowed to say no.
I don't need help.
>> That's fine. And that's when I do my
job. Hey, I'll stay in the car. Hey,
>> have a seat, sweetheart. All the way
back. Okay.
>> This one has a man in school cuz he's
got lights and I got to take care of his
hair out every day. Make sure they have
food three, four, five, six times a day.
>> Ma'am, this car has not been cleaned
out. Yes, it has. I clean it out every
day just because it hasn't been
vacuumed. I literally just got back from
the store a few minutes ago, so there's
trash and toys and breakfast and
everything all day. I have not had a
chance to clean it out yet today. But
yes, it has it gets cleaned out every
single day, if not twice a day.
>> If it was clean out every day, it
wouldn't look like it looks right now.
Okay.
>> Well, look how it looks right now. I
just went and spent $55 at Dollar
General. Of course, there's going to be
trash in the floor. Of course, it's
going to be trash from dinner and
breakfast because I have not had a
chance to clean it out yet today. And my
husband when he gets here, he'll tell
you that we clean this car out two or
three times a day. We clean this car out
numerous times. So, I don't need no
judgment from you.
>> I'm not I'm not casting judgment on you.
It's not It's not good enough. This is
not an appropriate place for your
children to be staying.
>> Sorry. I'm irritated. I'm aggravated.
I'm stressed. And I'm not trying to be
rude. I'm just
>> And neither am I. I'm just trying to get
my point across.
>> I I hear you. And I'm I'm not Nothing
that I've said today is meant to insult
you or be ugly or anything.
>> I feel judged by mainly you two. Where's
the other one go? The one with the nasty
attitude. That right there is
>> Oh, look. You might not like what I have
to say, but I've been completely
pleasant towards you the entire time
that I've been here.
>> Matter of fact, right before y'all
pulled up, I was about to start moving
everything out of the front seat and
trunk and start cleaning it out.
>> You got your ID on you, sir?
>> No, I don't.
>> Okay. You don't need it.
>> No, I do need it. I need to get your
identification, please.
>> What?
>> Because we're conducting an
investigation into the situation with
you and your children here in this
parking lot.
>> They've already called.
>> So, can I please get your
identification?
>> We're investigating a possible child
situation. So, I need your
identification.
>> Can I have your identification, please?
>> I'm going to tell you one more time.
>> I'm going to tell you one more time.
Right. You need to identify yourself to
me. Give me your identification.
>> What's your ID? What's your name?
>> Corpal Kelly 16 is right here. Give me
your identification. I'm not asking you.
I'm telling you. You don't demand me,
>> baby. Please just give them your ID.
That way they can see that you ain't got
>> baby. Come on now.
>> Put your hands back.
>> Really?
I mean,
>> come on.
>> Look, this is why you need to start.
>> You don't throw your ID at me. Okay,
>> throw my ID. I asked you to identify
yourself. So, we'll play it like that.
>> I asked you to identify yourself. Did I
not? How many times did I ask you? So,
you want to play games?
>> Playing games. I didn't commit a crime,
though.
>> Your children are filthy. This situation
is not acceptable. Okay. You want to be
slick? You want to throw your ID on the
ground and ask you for it? We're not
playing those games. You understand me?
>> Now, your kids are upset. All you had to
do is give him your ID, which you're
required to do in the middle of an
investigation.
>> I'm about to be detained for what?
>> They just told you.
>> You must identify yourself when I tell
you to. I asked you multiple times.
>> I don't commit a crime. You are under
investigation for a crime right now.
Child, a felony in the state of Florida.
>> Initial phone call was just to have us
remove some propert. And then more came
of it when we got here. So now we change
gears. Now you want to be smart.
>> Uh-uh. Back here. Back here.
>> I'm not running off. I'm not running.
>> I said back here.
>> I'm just standing here. I'm not running
off, man.
>> I said where to stand. Your rights have
been limited right now.
>> So you're taking my rights.
>> Some of your rights are limited right
now. You do not have the freedom to move
about.
>> I was just getting off my car because I
was
>> I don't care. I told you where to stand.
I did not say that.
>> Complete control.
>> Callie, where's your car? Come on.
>> I'll cooperate. Please.
>> Nope. I'm done. I ain't playing with
you.
>> Let me start really quick.
>> Over here, kids.
>> Come on.
>> You did this.
>> What did I do, man? I'm innocent.
>> You should have done as you were told
instead of being this morning. You got
anything going to poke me?
>> I don't think so.
>> I don't think so. Or you don't?
>> I don't.
>> No syringes, needles. I know I don't do
>> Well, the fact that you said I don't
think so is a problem.
>> Cuz I have a pocketk knife. I just
remember my pocket knife.
>> We're here trying to make sure your kids
are okay, right? And then you're out
here being some type of way whenever.
We're literally here to make sure your
kids are good to go. I offered your wife
services. She said, "No, I don't want
it."
>> What services?
>> Anything to help get the kids out of a
car and a bath.
>> There's no services to help.
>> Yes, there are.
>> We've tried the services. Nothing's
worked.
>> Do you think we don't have a hookup?
>> No, you don't. Because fine, you know
everything.
>> I'm not saying I know everything, but
>> you just did, man. You just did.
>> Can I explain something to you?
>> I'm waiting.
>> I put my guard down, but we've had the
cops give us information before. You
know, the list of resources and we've
called and none of them will help us
unless
>> Okay, I beat my wife.
>> We didn't offer to give you a phone
number. He offered help with getting
those services and she flat out turned
him down. And those kids are filthy.
They are filthy. Didn't go to school
today. I have no idea the last time they
actually went to school because
>> they were out today for uh teacher
thing.
>> You guys have got money for cigarettes
and you got a wallet full of cash, but
your kids are out here days without a
bath. Filthy. She's saying one's got
lice. They're eating white bread from
the piggly wiggly and cake. Right. Their
condition is not acceptable by the
letter of Florida statute of what child
is. You guys are neglecting your
children. Okay. We came here because
they want your car out of the parking
lot, right? Yeah.
>> We start talking to your wife, right? We
observe your children jumping in and out
of the car. They're filthy. Whatever. I
say, "Would you like services? I can
make a phone call right now to On Call
DCF to try to get you guys some help,
either room or money or food or anything
to help your situation better than broke
down in a parking lot with kids, maybe a
shower, whatever." Right.
>> We do need that.
>> Okay. I offered that. I was flatly
refused, right? And then you show up and
you want to be some type of way, right?
Refusing to saying what crime have I
committed? Why do I need first? I don't
have an ID. Why do I need to identify
myself? All this crap that is not
appropriate. Okay? When I am in
conducting a criminal investigation, cuz
that's what's happening. And I tell you
to identify yourself, you must identify
yourself, right? Failure to identify
yourself is a crime. When you get your
ID out finally and then throw it at me
on the ground, that is not an acceptable
way to behave towards the police. I I
tried honestly I tried to toss it in
your hand.
>> That's not appropriate either. You hand
it to me like a grown man right when I
asked you for it.
>> But can I talk to you seriously
>> from the car?
>> Do the services actually work until I
mean but the reason she turned it down
was because the services never work
before.
>> She never even gave me an opportunity to
her.
>> She's mad at us for questioning her
about the care of the children. Have a
seat.
>> I mean do the services actually work? I
mean we really need do you need help?
>> Well, and that's what I was trying to do
but then I got you guys acting both
acting some type of way towards me. Have
a seat.
>> I feel I just feel like we're just being
pushed around because of the situation
in
>> I tried to help her and she said no. So
then I got to change gears, right? I'm
here to make sure your kids are okay.
I'm not trying to harass either of you
guys. Your kids need help. I offered
help. She said no. Okay. When that
happens, I have my job to do, right? And
my job is to make sure the kids are
okay. So I told her, "This is what we're
doing now that you've denied. For that
reason, since you have now told me no, I
don't want help." And she's getting all
agitated, too. Right? Then I will change
gears. I will contact a detective who
specialize in child crimes. I will have
them come out and conduct a further
investigation beyond what patrol
officers do. Okay? What you did is a
crime. All right? So, this is what we're
going to do. We're going to determine
how we proceed now based upon how you
act and how this investigation goes from
this point forward. Okay? Right now, you
are detained, but you can very easily be
going to jail. Okay? Understand that?
>> Well, I'm trying to deflate my attitude.
I apologize. Can I apologize?
>> You can apologize. But you understand
that that is not acceptable. Throwing
this on the ground is not cool. I was
cool with you. I was not rude to you.
>> Really, it is it is important for me
>> to deflate and figure out what we can do
about this.
>> Okay. So, we'll have a seat. I'm going
to let you sit in the car for a little
bit and relax. Okay. Put your feet all
the way in for me, please.
>> Apologize for that.
>> Just take a minute and calm down. Okay.
>> Why does he do this?
>> Right now, he's detained until I
determine whether or not he's going to
be arrested for
>> Okay. Yeah. Just continue on. go to
school.
>> Yeah, me too. He's in kindergarten and
I'm in
my sister.
>> You thirsty, sweetheart? You need
something to drink?
>> No.
>> No. You guys got something to drink? You
okay?
>> Okay.
>> I'm not sure yet. Right now, he's just
calming down. Okay.
>> Yeah. if car can't get into neutral. But
uh I'll probably have the car at some
point. I'll just move it over to empty
lot. I don't want them to see they won't
get that car back if they get in.
>> No, they won't do it.
>> I will move it, but I'll leave it over
my empty lot.
>> Okay.
>> We'll leave it at that.
>> Yeah. I'm not sure what's going on. I
don't know if there's an issue with I'm
not quite sure why, but they can't get
it to shift into any gear.
>> So, whatever they've got going on, it's
>> it's bigger than the starter.
>> Yeah, it says well beyond starter.
>> Yeah.
Okay. So, we got called out here today
in reference from the property owner in
reference to that vehicle being parked
here for several days. They were
requested to have it moved. They can't
move it. And then through the course of
that situation, we started a separate
investigation into the children to make
sure that they're being taken care of
like they need to be. Okay. So, that's
where we're at.
>> What can I do for you?
>> Hey, sir. Take
the bottle of all this. Do you want
all those rice in mind? You wish to man.
>> So what's going on today?
>> I mean broke down in the parking lot and
trying to work and figure out what's
going on with my phone because
>> when did you guys get broken down in the
parking lot? Like how long you been
here?
>> Monday. What were you doing on Monday?
>> I went got off here
and I
do. So, you guys just been hanging out
in the parking lot for the last couple
days?
>> Pretty much. Uh, I've been going to
work. Yesterday, I didn't go to work
because I was seeing
>> What about the kiddos? Have they been
school?
>> They haven't been since
>> How you guys normally cleaning up,
washing up, bathing?
>> You go to the cab
showers.
>> When's the last time you were there?
>> Not right now, ma'am. She's taking a
statement.
>> Um, how often do you go there? Remember
the last time we had a case that came to
see us and then we didn't ever
>> have they ever came across you when you
were living in your car.
>> So you guys were living in the car last
year.
>> As the investigation continued, officers
arranged for a family member, a cousin
who had recently reconnected with the
children to take custody of them while
the situation with both parents was
resolved. So, I mean, how close are you
with the kids? Do they talk to you about
anything? Do they tell you how they feel
about all this? Is this just kind of
like how they feel?
>> How they call up their entire life. They
know me as fuzzy because of a text
message for auto correct and I've been
[ __ ] fuzzy. So, I've been fuzzy ever
since. I just got back into their life.
I haven't seen them for 4 years.
My ex had me stranded upstairs, you
know, and everything. And I got back and
I've been contact
shelter. That's why I really got into
contact with her. I started rehearsing.
>> I'm just getting a statement. This is
cousin to take the kiddos. Do you have
any questions? We're on a statement. So,
I'm just going to finish up with the
kids if I do have to take them or be a
issue if I don't have enough
SUV.
>> We'll talk about that here in a minute.
>> So, dad is in the back of that car. Mom
and all the kids, and your is it your
daughter or your son?
>> My daughter.
>> Daughter's in the car over there.
Officer parents are going to go. If
you're good with leaving the kids with
her, we can figure out the rest later.
>> Huh? Taking them out of your pockets.
Emptying your pockets
cuz I'm taking you to jail.
resisting and chopping.
>> Thought you did.
>> Are y'all trying to bring up charges on
my wife?
>> Yeah, she's on the rest of the law.
>> What?
>> Can I hug him as well?
>> Sure.
>> Get your together, dumb. The kids are
coming to stay with me. Okay.
>> You think I'm trying to do?
>> Get your together.
>> They think I'm out here doing what I'm
out here busting my ass to try to get
out of this situation.
>> 5 minutes. Shut up. Shut up.
They need their It's not their fuzzy.
They don't need their fuzzy raising
them. They need their mama and daddy
raising them. You understand me?
>> Please.
>> I'll take them.
>> Please get your
>> so I can do my work in the jail trying
to do but nobody sees you.
>> Nobody sees you. They think I'm out
here. I'm out here just being a
criminal.
>> I'm going to treat you like God. Stop.
>> They think I'm just being a criminal.
>> No. Stop.
>> No. Stop.
They just think I'm being a criminal
when I'm out here busting my ass. They
don't see it.
>> Well, what you expect when you throw an
ID at somebody? You lucky you ain't
getting charged with battery on a Leo.
Stop.
>> Killing me.
>> They'll be off in a second.
>> Neither moment. Not me right now.
>> I love you.
>> The guy that owns this property that
wanted you guys to leave is going to pay
with his own money to have your vehicle
moved out of his normal parking lot over
to here because it's going to cost him
money for a tow company to move it. So,
he's paying out of his own pocket to do
that. Otherwise, he could send it to an
impound lot. First of all, I can't tow a
vehicle from private property. That's
his prerogative.
>> Right. Right. No, I understand. I'm just
saying.
>> So, he is paying out of his own pocket.
>> What's going on with the vehicle?
>> It's going to be moved over here
somewhere.
>> I love you, buddy.
>> Following the conclusion of their
investigation, the children were left
with a trusted family member as officers
followed with the parents arrest. Both
the man and woman were charged with
three counts of child reflecting the
number of children found to be affected
by the conditions officers documented
throughout the encounter. The man
additionally faced a charge of resisting
arrest stemming from his conduct during
the course of the investigation 1,200
miles away from the residence. Officers
had encountered a case with a different
starting point but a similar outcome. On
August 24th, 2023, Superior County,
Wisconsin, officers responded after a
young family member was seen on a roof
for more than 20 minutes after being
left unattended near an open window.
What started as a rescue effort to get
the family members safely back inside
would soon reveal conditions inside that
home far more troubling than anyone
expected.
>> We left nothing with us but the next
one. And this is our ladder. We just
>> right over in case the kid was up there
and we weren't able
>> He's been up there for over 20 minutes.
This is a vacation rental here. So he's
in
>> Okay. I'll let you guys get out of
there. Okay. Thank you.
>> You guys still need the ladder. Go
ahead. If you don't mind if you just put
in my front yard when you guys are
there.
>> At 10:20.
Uh, I don't know.
>> We don't need a police officer now.
>> Yeah. Thank you.
>> Good.
>> Hi.
>> Hi, buddy. How are you?
>> Good.
>> So, this this is Oh, yeah.
>> Yeah. I'm going to try to go through
here just to get him out of here. Okay.
>> Yep. I was trying to Oh, wow. There's a
hatchet. Okay. Okay.
>> Do you want to uh just make sure he's
[clears throat]
secure there?
>> Yeah.
>> You probably just put that on the corner
down in the corner over there.
Grab it.
>> That's fair. I guess it's been here.
>> YEAH.
>> OKAY.
>> All right, buddy. I'm going to make some
noise. Okay. Have
>> you reached through? Try and push stuff
out of the way.
>> Looks like it's just a vacuum. I see a
cat.
>> Hi.
>> Um, excuse me.
>> Uh, your kid was on the roof. Almost
fell down.
>> No, he wasn't.
>> Yes. Yes. [clears throat]
>> There's no way he was on the roof.
>> We just helped get him back in the
window.
>> What's your name?
>> My name is Christy. I am pretty much
naked, but there's no window.
>> Hey, Christie, put some clothes on.
>> Yes.
>> Yeah. Can you tell me how that window
was open?
>> He had it open. He was on the roof and
he's been here for a long time.
>> Want to get covered up and then we can
talk.
>> Hold on one second, Grayson. Okay.
>> Okay.
>> Okay. We're going to go down here. Okay.
>> Okay.
>> I just wanted to let you know that I've
had CPS here many times and it doesn't
always look like this. I for a whole
week straight, 15 hours a day.
>> I'll let you call my boss if you want.
>> I'll just meet you downstairs here in a
minute. Okay.
>> Yeah. I'm just going to find pants.
>> What would you like me to do? Do you
want me to deal with uh the health and
human services and the child or you want
me to stay with you?
>> This is probably the easier part and
then I'll come and take over when I'm
done deciding on like child.
>> That's what we're doing. So, yeah. So,
we're going to end up doing the same
thing.
>> Hi. So, are you guys ready to come down
or what are we doing? Are we hiding?
Whatever you guys were doing.
>> Okay, why don't you come down here?
What's your name? Jay,
>> I'll let you pass me.
>> What? Jay. Jay, come on down here.
>> I'm on the way.
Excuse me.
>> We're not away when that happens. And so
say if you were to get down here, get
something he's not supposed to have, you
know, maybe
>> cats out.
>> Choke something. We're asleep. We know
what happened.
>> Okay. So,
>> I don't even know what time it is.
>> Here, I'll I'll talk to you outside.
Just
>> Yeah.
>> Thank you. Yeah, he threw these out the
window. So, come come here.
Is that your son?
>> Yes.
>> Okay. And then who is this inside the
mail?
>> That's my We're engaged.
>> You're engaged. Okay. Do you both live
here?
>> Yes.
>> Okay. Like, how long have you both lived
here together?
>> Um, he's lived here almost 3 years. I've
been here for almost two.
>> What's name?
>> Grayson.
>> Grayson.
>> He's three.
>> How long was Grayson in there all by
himself?
>> Usually only until I wake up. I work
pretty late. He's usually up around 7 or
8.
>> So, like a range of hours. Like, when
did you barricade him in there? He was
He actually fell asleep in the hallway.
He usually does. So 10:00 at night,
we'll put him back in there. But then he
gets up when I get up. It depends. So I
work for Family Dollar. I'm usually
there open to close. So I go to work at
7:00 a.m. So Grayson I
>> So yesterday you would have worked at
700 a.m.
>> Yeah. I don't have a license. He drives
me. So they get up with me and then I'm
usually there all day.
>> What time do you think it was when
Grayson fell asleep in the hallway?
>> 9:30. We had church last night
>> and then you moved him into his room.
>> But usually it's about 10:00. He'll fall
asleep in the hallway watching whatever
we're watching. Would you say that
you're the primary caretaker or would
you say that um would you say that he
helps parents or or care or care for
Grayson?
>> Um he does. Okay.
>> For the last couple of weeks I've been
stuck at work a lot because we got a new
store opening up. We got new employees.
>> Sure.
>> My boss since I she has a license. I
don't. My other employees don't know how
to run the store. I've been there
running the store. So lately he's been
here more with him. But usually it would
be me would say half and half at least.
I would only work average. I mean before
the last few months or so it was uh 8
hour shifts and then it was 10 hour
shifts and now it's 15 about.
>> Let me just tell you what I saw that
>> I would like to know what you saw. He's
open.
>> This was one of the worst things I've
ever seen. It it was like he's been kept
in there like like a dog. There was a
dog dish of food. Okay. Yes. He has a
that's all that's in there for him is a
dog dish of of food. Um
>> Okay.
>> When we arrived the window was open. He
was on the roof. Obviously he's been
throwing his toys down.
>> Been doing it for a while.
>> Yes. Um, there's a hatchet on the floor
in there. What? There's dirty diapers
all over. There's poop rubbed all over
the wall.
>> I knew about the poop. I was supposed to
paint the walls this weekend.
>> Um, it's just there's no excuse for it.
And yeah, you said you had CPS here.
Yes, I did.
>> Okay. Well, and what was that about
before?
>> There was a call about Grayson playing
in a cat box. It's in my bathroom. He
thinks it's cat litter or that it's like
sand, you know.
>> And then coloring on the walls
>> is definitely more serious than that.
>> Yeah, I'm dealing with them for now. My
kid in Duth, I don't know what county
that is. Is that a hatchet?
>> Yes.
>> I don't even know if I own a hatchet.
So, I presume that you're taking him
into uh at least a 72-hour hold and then
probably
>> Grayson.
>> Yeah.
>> Upon further inspection of the room,
officers documented a hatchet lying on
the floor, soiled diapers scattered
throughout, and feces smeared across the
walls along with a dog food dish that
appeared to be the only food source
present. The mother acknowledged that
child protective services had been
involved with the family previously,
though she characterized past visits as
related to lesser concerns.
>> Then here, so I need your hands behind
your back, too. Okay.
>> It's going to be child.
>> Give Carol and my mom a call, please.
>> He's not the biological father. He's not
related to the child.
>> No.
>> I'm going to go up and take a few more
pictures of that room.
>> Yeah.
>> Been arrested before. This is new.
>> All right. Here we're going to walk to
this part here. Number five. We got like
a weird cavity search or something.
>> I'm not going to do anything like that,
but I'll search your your pockets.
>> I don't have any.
>> Is there anything in any pockets?
>> No, I don't have pockets.
>> You have nothing on you at all?
>> Nope.
>> Okay. It's easiest to step in and then
slide on. It's child that you're under
arrest for. Okay. I talked to her about
it. She said they've been living here
together for about 3 years. They're
engaged. I asked if uh he also helps
care for the child. She said he does.
>> Yeah. So I mean
>> and he referred to the child as a
stepchild
initially.
>> Right. You're leaving at the home as an
adult. I think you also have the burden
of caring for that kid.
>> Yeah, definitely.
>> Yeah. You have Paul here if you guys
want to do that.
>> Yeah.
>> Okay. Awesome.
>> So here's what we're going to do, Jay.
We got to take you to the police
department. Okay. I'm going to I'm going
to put you in handcuffs to bring you
down there. You can turn around for me.
Not let me catch up. That's cool. What's
that? You don't want to catch up. That's
cool.
>> I'll definitely not let the catch up.
You have to turn around. See?
All right, Jay. Uh, since we are going
to the police department, the jail,
actually, it's uh before we go over
here, do you have anything on you?
>> Just a blue phone truck.
>> Just the phone. Okay.
>> I can ring on the phone here. Okay.
>> All right. Do you mind transporting my
takes a bunch of pictures up here?
>> Okay. Um, so Jail and what's the um
>> Oh, Kitty over there. I'll try to roost
him back inside.
>> We looking at
>> uh it's going to be a child named
>> Okay, we'll do. All right.
>> Her name's uh Millie.
>> Millie.
>> Millie. I didn't catch. What was your
name? Jay.
>> J. Am I going to jail?
>> Yeah. Yep.
>> But help.
>> I don't know. I don't have an answer for
you there. That I was just asked to come
down and and give you a ride.
>> I do.
>> That's where we'd be processing.
>> One shoe on my ride. She has two.
>> I ain't got no shoes.
>> Yeah. Yours. You guys got left there.
>> I think I or an option.
>> Oh, okay. I I didn't hear anybody
talking about shoes when I got there.
>> No, I was I was more of like, "Is it
cool if I close my screen door so my
cats come down?" I'm like, "No, I'm just
stay right there." Okay, I'll stay right
here.
>> Yeah. Well, I'm sure Officer Mer got
your cat back.
>> I'm not going to be dumb and run. I
can't run.
>> No. Yeah.
>> Did my partner tell you exactly why you
were being arrested? Like what what it
is and everything?
>> He said something along the lines of
child.
>> Yes. Yep. It it is child and it is a
felony in this case because Grayson
hasn't turned 6 years old. There's a
there's a section in there where if they
haven't turned 6 years old, it changes
things a little bit.
>> Following the investigation, officers
arrested the mother and charged her with
endangerment, a felony given the
individual's young age. Her fiance was
also taken into custody and transported
to jail alongside her, facing charges
stemming from his role in the care of a
dependent. At nearly 655 miles, officers
found themselves back in a familiar
territory. A home showing the same kinds
of they documented before, but this time
what started as a case about living
conditions didn't stay there. On October
12th, 2023, Summit County, Ohio,
officers responded to a residence
following a report that young family
members were living in dangerous and
unhealthy conditions under their
mother's care. things would quickly open
into something far more serious as
officers uncovered circumstances inside
that home no one had anticipated.
>> But so the two cops that were actually
up there, they were called here 2 weeks
ago because the guy that was here, she
found out was a he's not supposed to be
around no kids. So she made the cops get
make him get his stuff and leave. Ever
since then, he got put on a GPS. He's
not allowed here. He's not around her or
the kids. She walked down the street
maybe an hour ago, met him, and she's
all the way at his house now. The kids
are here. If you guys walk in the house,
>> who who met her head?
>> Uh their mom. Her name is Britney Weber.
I mean you guys if you guys look at the
house inside like it's there's gnats.
The dishes like it's there's no food.
You there's nothing to cook with. They
have like no clothes, no diapers.
Everything's there's like poop
everywhere around the house. There's
like you can't even take a bath cuz
there's no water.
>> CSV been here.
>> Yeah, but they said that there's no
reason for them to be here.
>> You mean there's no reason for them?
>> I don't know. Supposedly that's what
they said. CPS said that they have no
reason to be here because they don't see
nothing wrong with the kids. CSV has no
reason to.
>> They said that they didn't even know why
they got involved cuz they they all have
lead poisoning. Their lead poisoning is
like really bad. And they were at the
hospital.
>> They have blood poisoning.
>> They all three kids got blood work done
and she got a thing in the mail that she
had to call the health department. They
went in today for more lead poisoning
checks and they still have it.
>> Do you live here?
>> Um I am, but I actually am going through
a rehab right now to get my son back and
so I leave Sunday. So I And that's why I
I can't I can't keep my mouth shut
anymore. I honestly can't. Like this is
sad. And the 5-year-old just told me
that because the youngest boy on here
and then her, I walked into the living
room, she had her legs spread open and
her little brother had his face on her.
I said, "Where did you learn that from?"
Gosh. She said, "Daddy Tim, that's my
lay." Those two cops were the ones that
were here when she called the cops last
night. And now she's back at their
house. You guys can feel free to go
inside.
>> Where are the babies?
>> You live here? I was staying with her,
but I just told them I'm I'm going to a
sobriety house on Monday. That's why I I
can't keep my mouth shut anymore about
this. I really can't. These kids don't
deserve this. I've been here for 4
months. I've been living with her. She's
at that guy's house that you guys were
here for that one day.
>> Okay. Where are her children?
>> This is one of them. And then the other
two are in there. And the oldest girl
just told me that Tim, she said, word
for word, he rubbed my while I was
laying in bed with them.
>> How old is she?
>> She's five. Before entering the
residence, officers learned from a woman
staying in the home that it lacked food
and running water and was littered with
waste conditions child protective
services had previously been made aware
of. She said that the mother had left
hours earlier to be with a man who had
been ordered to stay away from her under
electronic monitoring, leaving the
dependent without a caregiver present.
Um I know you
>> like then this is not the thing like
nobody knows but like Britney is not all
there in the head.
>> You want to sit down?
>> She's still dating him and she's dating.
>> Well, she's getting really close to
losing her kids.
>> I know. And that's what we keep telling
them and they don't listen. You guys can
go through the house and
>> hi kitty. Let's go back inside.
>> No, keep going.
>> You're so cute.
>> Okay. Hi.
>> Hi, sweetie.
>> Your mom left.
HE SAID IT AGAIN LATER.
>> She'll be back tomorrow. She's been gone
since yesterday. She came back today
because she had
said she was about
Thursday.
Yeah. Can you tell me
about
Come on.
>> Can you get the dog secured?
>> Oh, yeah.
>> Riley,
>> do you live downstairs? Do you live
here?
>> No.
>> You don't live here?
>> No.
>> So, what are you doing here right now?
>> Guess
what's going on back here?
>> I guess he's staying the night with his
cousin.
>> Uh, yeah.
>> Okay. Were you here last time we were
here about the Tim thing, the fight?
>> Yeah, I just came back today.
>> Yeah. No, you're fine. I was just
wondering if you were here.
>> Can you do me a favor and just have a
seat in here?
>> Oh my god. I know. And this is why I
honestly cannot. Exactly. This is what
I'm talking about.
>> There's maggots on the floor,
>> right?
>> No, I'm coming down. I don't need to see
the
>> Well, yeah. It's
>> I mean, the bathtub doesn't even drain.
This is the girls room.
>> Not a room.
>> This is Kylo's room.
>> Not a room. I I can't let these kids sit
in this anymore.
disgusting.
>> Yeah. In the kitchen, the second you
walk in, there are like thousands of
nats just
>> say there's no running water.
>> There is, but beside the toilet where
he's standing, you have to turn it on.
But the water does not drain. It's been
like that for 4 days.
>> No handle to turn on.
>> Nope. You have to turn it on behind
inside the wall.
>> Puppies. These are bedrooms. This one
has two puppies.
>> Those puppies are mine.
>> Yeah. Yeah. You're good.
>> The room that that boy's in, he's just
staying the night helping us watch the
kids. That the room he's in is the
little boy's room. And then the room
with the puppies are the two girls's
room.
>> Definitely seen worse. I've been to the
house many, many times. Really wanted
to.
>> Yeah, that's the thing. I've seen them
much worse. The kids are healthy.
>> Oh, thank you.
>> She said it's tough. Go to the garbage
bag and look down.
>> I don't really want to grab the garbage
bag.
>> Well, she said look at the garbage bag
and look down.
>> I see.
>> I don't see anything moving. See like
broken up ramen.
>> Yeah, that's what I saw on the stairs,
too.
>> Yeah. Grinding to the carpet.
>> No.
>> Walking through the residence, officers
documented maggots on the floor, a
bathroom without functioning running
water, and food ground into the floor
throughout multiple rooms, corroborating
the conditions described to them before
they went inside.
>> I could not anymore.
>> I know. I know. And CPS came the other
day and last week I was told that she
was talking to this guy from the next
street over came over with her. She's
been selling her food stamps and she's
been storing them and she refused to do
a test to CPS and then she re she
cleaned her body. She detoxed and then
took a test. That's why I had the girl
that's sitting right there. Her older
sister's mom is the one that called. So
I had her call that way it wasn't
through my phone. She didn't she didn't
know. Yesterday she was sitting in this
chair right here. He was on FaceTime. He
was in the shower and you could see
everything. I was sitting there and I
could see it. All three kids were
sitting there. Every time he showed her
something or did anything else, she's
like, "Man, do it again."
>> Sitting there.
>> They were videoing basically.
>> Not today.
>> Hold your cat.
>> Sorry.
>> No, you're okay. She gets out all the
time. She's just chase. I can't let
these kids sit in this stress. It's
>> Yeah, I don't blame you.
>> I'm like terrified to leave Monday
because I'm the one if it's not for me.
They don't get bathed. They don't get
changed. They don't eat. my partner and
I've been to this house a few times so
we are aware
>> also she's gonna look stupid because you
guys were the ones that were here when
she called the cops on him and now she's
with him
>> yes
>> that is she's choosing her kids she just
got also a notice 3 days ago about her
house being dirty from the city and
still she crumbed it up and threw away
she does not care
>> yeah I know
>> how many kids are in this house total
>> so it's just me the one night I Kaden
and then Britain them two are just here
helping me wash the kids overnight
that's This mom, what is her name?
>> Britney Weaver. But she's actually
calling me right now.
>> Are you going to answer it?
>> So, I just I'm just going to be like
somebody called the cops. They're here
for a little check. Can I just say that?
>> That's up to you. I'm not going to tell
you what to say.
>> I'm just going to tell her that. I said
that. Britney, my phone's on one and the
cops are all here doing a well check on
your kids. Just so you're aware. Don't
ask me. But I'm just letting you know.
Me, Kaden, Britain, and the three kids.
Not here. Grandma's. Well, they're all
talking at the car right now, so I don't
know. I'm I'm sitting here waiting, but
my phone's on one. I need to save my
batteries so if something happens I can
call you back. All right, let's go.
She's like I'm going to get your tag. I
guess she's having my mom come down
here.
>> Okay. All right. Real quick, start with
the oldest. Give me the names of these
kids.
>> How's it going?
>> Oh, I could be better, I guess.
>> Yeah,
>> I drove by and seen you guys sitting
here. So, I figured I'd stop by and see
what's going on.
>> Yeah. So, we're here for a welfare
check. Third party person called because
of basically the living conditions that
the kids are have been dealing with.
>> So, I haven't met you before.
>> I'm Andrew.
>> I'm her ex. I've pretty much raised the
kids. I'm here and not here. So, um
>> I'll say all the times that we've been
here, I've never seen them.
>> Yeah. I I haven't really tried to be
here. I I usually just stop and see the
kids here and there. I try.
>> Are you any of the children's
biological?
>> Not biological. No, but I've been there
since the oldest was 2 months old.
>> Gotcha.
>> If I need to, her parents are right up
the street.
>> Well, we have a supervisor coming, so we
can't just relinquish, right? We can't
take the kids out of here and give them
the parents. We're gonna have to go
through the whole process.
>> If that's even the route we're taking.
>> Yes. Okay.
>> I'm gonna tell you the way that the
house looks. I can't get
>> the last I heard CPS has been involved
and CPS has already told from what I've
heard CPS told her cleaned up and it was
nothing. But she told me what she needs
to do.
>> I've been trying to do that for years
now. I had a house with her. Things were
great. We broke up. She got here and
just went.
>> How long have you guys been split up?
>> Since November last year. Uh about
tracks.
>> Yeah. When we started getting calls
here.
>> Do you have mom and do you know their
number?
>> Grandparent information. You know where
they live with?
>> They live right on Fifth.
>> Okay.
>> So she talked to mom's calling grandma.
>> Yeah. I'm not worried about that. Do you
have a phone number for them?
>> I got a number for him.
>> That's fine. She didn't want her to know
that we were here in the first place. So
why are we calling her?
>> So she answered the call and said,
"Hey."
>> Oh.
>> You mind if I hold her?
I don't care.
>> Kids just got to stay here. I don't
care. That's fine.
>> Where is Britney right now?
>> She's at Tim's house. The same dude that
we were here before.
>> I don't know where Tim lives. Same dude
that we were here because of a giant
place the other night here
>> because of Tim.
>> I was just told recently that he wasn't
supposed to be around here and he hasn't
been around here.
>> He's not supposed to be around.
>> Well, was it last week we were here that
he was allegedly here?
>> Yeah. Trying to get his stuff off the
porch cuz he was living here.
>> The lies. That's why I got away from the
lies. The cheating. This is the only
reason I the kids the only reason I
stuck around.
>> You're not stepfather or anything.
Married to
>> married? No. No. They they all the kids
call me dad.
>> This is Kylo's room.
>> The food that's on the floor there. We
had to have someone bring us.
>> Whose room is this?
>> Huh? Oh, this is Kylo's room.
>> Okay.
>> We had to have someone bring us.
>> Yep.
>> It's her dad and her stepmom.
>> Yeah. Hi.
>> Hi.
>> I thought I recognized you.
>> Yeah.
>> And the didn't know you were late.
>> What's going on?
>> Well, we got an anonymous call from the
worker um at the house. There's
literally literally a piece of
>> They had another call.
>> Well, yeah. Yeah. Over here. Yeah.
>> And told him I call him back when I got
his and then take him. Go get in the
truck. Right here in him.
>> Oh yeah.
>> No, this is a mom.
>> That's the other kid's mom. This is a
family member.
>> Sister.
>> She had a CSB case a while back. It was
in there that I would have custody of
the kids.
>> That's not for us to decide.
>> So, how can I CSB wants to and when they
get here, if they want to relinquish it
to you, then they can. We don't do that.
We can't make that decision. The only
thing that we can do is take them out of
her custody, give them the children's
services, and then children's services
make calling, not us. All right.
>> Okay. So, did you give anybody your
information at all?
>> You're welcome to stay when they show up
>> to stay till they come because I would
prefer them to be with me.
>> Are not in their lives.
>> Um, he is dead in I think he's still in
jail or is he out? I have no idea. Kylo
Kylo's dead.
>> You're supposed to be getting out. I'm
sure the end of last month or the
beginning of this month.
>> Her dad her dad.
>> Yeah. Well, they wouldn't give them to
him anyways.
>> The only one that would probably have
any kind of
>> was
that. But he already
>> How old are the kids? Five.
>> She's one, Kyle's three. Mia's five.
>> I promise, baby. It'll be all right.
>> My son's coming now.
>> Your son's coming down?
>> Yeah.
>> For
>> I'm taking him with me.
>> I'm taking who with you?
>> My son. He was staying here.
>> Okay. So, [music and singing] so
>> maybe he don't live here.
>> All right, that's fine. The the kids are
being we're taking pictures.
>> I know that. I heard that.
>> Yes, your mommy's coming, baby.
>> But right now, we'll deal with it. Okay.
>> Mommy, you guys are all right. I kept
telling you, Mom, this was going to
happen. Well, I need you to stay with
them for a second while I tell Blake
something.
>> I'm going to try and get them to come
with me.
>> The officers came about that guy that
she was seeing. I was here when that was
going on
>> and I gave them my information so they
if they needed anything to call me but I
live in Utah and I work all the time but
obviously I can make
>> my schedule around kids.
>> What exactly did she tell you about
that?
>> Um so because when I walked on I saw
Kylo's face and
I pulled her outside. I said well one I
talked to both I said you guys cannot do
that. It's inappropriate. It's for warm
house. I put her outside. We were
sitting on the porch and the boys were
outside and I said she wasn't saying
that. I said, "Would you feel more
comfortable if you went on a walk and
then you can tell me away from boys?"
She said, "Yes." I said, "Did somebody
touch you?" She said, "No." I said, "Did
someone touch you in the private areas?"
She said, "Yes." I said, "Who?" She
said, "Daddy, it's Tim." I said, "What
did he do?" She said, "When I laid with
him, he rubbed me." She calls it who?
And I said, "Are you telling the truth?
Please do not lie to me." She said, "I
am not lying." With that account
documented alongside the condition of
the home, officers prepared to take the
mother into custody upon her return.
>> Relax.
>> Why are we going with us? Can you stay
over there, please, sir?
>> Can you stay over there, please? Sir,
>> can you tell me why I'm getting
arrested, please?
>> So, right now, you're getting arrested
for three counts of endangerment.
>> For what?
>> For the state of the living conditions
of home.
I already touched this CSV.
They told me I had this week to clean it
up.
>> I love you.
>> Just wait right here.
>> Do you have anything on you
that I need to know before I begin?
>> I'm also on my period just to let you
know.
As many of my family taking my kids
[snorts] is going to take your kids and
it's their decision from there.
>> Are you staying to talk to them?
>> Yeah. I'd like to talk to you and try to
get kids to my house.
>> I didn't
my kids, bro. Bro, my kids, bro. Angel.
Bro, there's nothing on my porch. They
don't have a search warrant. They're
getting I'm suing them, bro. Big bet.
They're getting sued.
>> You doing okay?
>> Yeah. Is there any way I can talk to my
dad, please?
>> All right. I will check.
>> And is there any way I can get my phone
numbers out of my phone so that way I
have them when I get there so I can call
my family?
>> Uh, I will check and we'll come back and
talk to you in just a minute. Okay.
>> All right. God, bro, I'm gettinging
irritated, bro. Oh,
>> you still doing okay?
>> Yeah. Can I talk to my sister or
somebody?
>> Not right now.
>> Oh my god. Freaking getting irritated.
>> Britney, can your dad have your stuff?
Your purse?
>> Yep. My purse and my phone.
>> Okay.
>> Can you tell me who called?
>> I don't know. It came in as anonymous.
>> Probably their dad.
>> Honestly, dear, it doesn't really
matter. With the way that house looks.
>> I know. I already had talked to CSB and
they me and CSB already talked and she
said she was coming back out sometime
this week and I was trying to wash
clothes and their blankets and stuff.
That's why I wasn't home tonight because
they needed blankets and clothes and
stuff like that and that's what I went
to do. And then all of a sudden all this
started.
>> So the copious amounts of trash and the
amounts of not just animal the human
that's all over the house.
>> There's not human all over the house. I
don't have vision and I didn't see all
the poop all over coming out of diapers
that are just thrown in the corner of
the house.
>> No,
>> Britney, I walked it. I mean, you don't
have to talk to me. That's fine. But
>> No, I am talking to you guys. I I don't
understand. Like,
>> I don't understand what you don't
understand.
>> There's not diapers everywhere.
>> Britney, I walked through the house. I
saw it all with my own two eyes.
>> So, are you calling me a liar?
>> Do you guys have a search warrant to be
in my house?
>> Uh, the girl that lives here with you,
>> who? Kylie? you. She's the one that
called in.
>> No, she let us in the house.
>> Okay. Well, you guys don't have a search
warrant.
>> I don't need a search. The one that lets
us in the house lives here.
>> She's not in charge of my house.
>> Doesn't matter. She lives here. She can
let us in.
>> She doesn't live here.
>> Okay. Well,
>> but she'll be getting out of my house,
too.
>> Okay. Well, that's fine.
>> Can I talk to Kylie, please?
>> Numb.
>> I love you guys. Give me kisses cuz
they're taking me
>> Kai. I love you.
>> Can I talk to my brother Blake right
there?
>> Uh, no. They're in the middle of trying
to put your children into the car.
>> Bro, I'm a freak out, bro. I'm standing
around [ __ ] but yet don't want to
let nobody [ __ ] to theiring family.
>> Call, bro.
>> I love y'all. Okay. Is there any way
that somebody can get phone numbers? I
literally have no phone number. Do you
have one number as you need or
>> No, I need my sister in there.
>> I'll ask. All right.
>> Would you able to get any numbers for
me?
>> They weren't
want to give any of
>> course
to keep keep
family.
>> Yeah. Well, the girl in the black wasn't
family. That's my nephew's my nephew's
girlfriend. They're supposed to be
around each other. So, have
>> you been before?
>> Nope. That's what you're going to do.
You step up here to the class speak.
>> All right. Thank you. Do you guys have a
boy sign?
>> Like like females and then males
>> or do they go together?
>> Okay.
>> Yeah.
I have a general idea. I think it's
separation.
>> Okay. But right now
>> I was just wondering like right now.
>> Okay.
You need to use your mouth and you can
see under your thumb as well. Okay,
we're going to head in. Take a few
pictures and I'll change you out. All
right.
>> After the investigation, the children
were handed over to children's services.
The officers arrested the mother,
charging her with six counts of
endangerment found inside the residence
nearly 150 m away. Officers arrived at a
case that looked at first glance like a
single lapse rather than the layered
situation seen before. On November 18th,
2024, Fyet County, Ohio, officers
responded to a motel after a young
family member was seen running
unsupervised through the parking lot
while his mother slept inside their
room. Officers started to uncover a
pattern far more troubling than a single
lapse. One that would leave
investigators asking just how many times
this had happened before.
>> How's it going, guys? Where's this child
at?
>> He's in room 22.
>> How long uh was
>> Yeah. How long How long was
>> forever to wake her up again?
>> That's her. It's you.
>> Yes, she was.
>> Come on down there. Come on, let's go.
>> Woke her up. I have to her.
>> Who? Where's [clears throat] the kid at?
>> 225 mine.
>> Okay. How long?
>> How long was the kid out here for?
>> For about 10 minutes.
>> All right. Your kid was gone for 10
minutes and you didn't know.
>> No, I didn't. The door was locked.
>> Where's the kid at?
>> Here. HE'S
>> I DON'T WANT IT ROAST, DUDE. He's fine.
>> How old is he?
>> He's four.
>> Your four-year-old was out here running
around for 10 minutes and you was in
here sleeping.
>> I didn't. He was by the door when I FELL
ASLEEP. COME HERE. I'll show you.
>> You work?
>> He was right by the door.
>> Where you work at?
>> I do door dash every day. I pay for this
room every day.
>> What time? What time do you door dash?
>> I do it all day long and I take a break
when I come. You can come in the room.
>> This is disgusting. I'm not going I'm
not coming in here.
>> No, this is it's nasty and it stinks.
>> It's because of any
>> This is disgusting.
>> It's clean every day.
>> Probably cuz I just used the bathroom. I
do. I am human. My room is clean. I'm
>> My room. If you don't want to be a
child, you play.
>> My room is clean. You should have seen
my trailer. My trailer was worse than
this. My room is cleaned every day. I do
work. I work all day. I do work out all
day long.
>> This is disgusting.
>> He takes the poop. I haven't
>> That's just not a poop smell. This
>> farted when I walked in the room.
>> But the room is dirty.
>> He's fine. They just got out of my life.
>> But there's probably a reason why.
>> NO, CUZ MY TRAILER WAS a mess. I'm not
the reason why this all looks like this.
I'm not the only person.
>> Well, all I hear so far, and I've been
here a total of about a minute, is the
blame game.
>> I'm not the only person that lives in
this place. I'm not the only person that
lives in the trailer. I'm not the only
person to take care of him. I'm trying
to just here now, right? Okay. So, he's
your responsibility,
>> guys. I'm just trying to relax, but she
is the god. She wants to fight with me
all the time. She doesn't like me.
That's why she called the cops.
>> Well, no, because your son got out and
ran around. Yeah, she's always fighting
with me. She wanted to fight with me
about my daughter.
>> Okay. Well, I'm not worried about that
today. I'm worried about him.
>> I'm sorry.
>> I got him. Please don't comment on me.
>> Yes, absolutely.
>> I went and got him from school cuz I had
to get him awake cuz he fell asleep when
he got him to school. He's possibly
autistic.
>> Okay.
>> But the door was locked and he pulled it
open. We can't get a lock until
Wednesday. Wednesday. Cuz he was paid
Wednesday.
>> So then don't you think that you should
be up watching him?
I didn't mean to fall asleep.
>> Not twice in a week.
>> I'm not going to do that.
>> Can you not hold his hand and walk to
your car at the same time and get it?
Are you not capable of that?
>> Yes, I am very capable, sir.
>> Okay. Well, obviously you just asked me
how you were going to do that. Who all
lives in the room? So, it's just you,
your husband, and
>> was my daughter, but my daughter's been
kicked out and she's in the hospital
right now.
>> How old is she?
>> 17. The mother told officers she works
for a delivery service and had picked
her son up from school after he fell
asleep there, saying he was seated by
the door when she dozed off. She also
disclosed that her teenage daughter, 17,
was no longer staying in the room
following a dispute and was currently in
the hospital. Officers noted her account
did not explain how the individual had
gotten past a locked door without her
noticing.
>> Oh.
>> Oh my god, honey. Oh lord.
>> You know that me off my head and my
feet.
>> The pinky toe hitting the pinky toe when
it
I wasn't shutting it on you.
>> So,
>> wait, he got some clothes.
>> You're the one that kicked your daughter
out the one night.
>> Leave the door shut. She was unable to
make it back into the room. Okay.
>> Yes. I didn't kick her out. He shut the
door away. He's the one that doesn't
like her.
>> Okay. So, you don't even want to be a
parent.
>> I do want
>> That's fine. We'll we'll get somebody
watch your kids. Um,
>> what's going on with his diaper? Does he
need another diaper?
>> No, we're just We'll get clothes on him.
>> I want to be a parent. Get some clothes
on them. It don't look like it. You got
your four-year-old out here running
around in the parking lot.
>> Hey, buddy.
>> Hey. Hey.
And you can't you can't even control
him. He's out here running around in the
parking lot.
>> COME HERE. COME HERE.
>> DADDY'S GOING to work, too.
>> I look behind you.
>> Shoes, socks with like What are we
doing? You
>> get shoes and so thought socks on them.
>> I don't know what the other one is.
>> Find it. Look.
>> I do my whole life.
>> Did you just your whole life?
>> Yeah.
>> You think you'd want to be better and
take care of your kids then?
>> Okay. I had my shoes.
>> Get shoes on them. Get shoes on them.
Get shoes on them. Everybody want to sit
in the back of the car. You want to sit
back in the police car?
>> What's going on? What's going on?
>> What is it?
>> What's going on? Well, we'll figure out
here in a minute.
>> We we we called CPS. CPS has to get
involved cuz you can't watch a kid or
take care of your kid.
>> Yes, I can.
>> No, you can't.
>> No, you can't.
>> Yes, I can. It was an accident.
>> If it was an accident, would I mean, it
happened last week.
>> I looked at HIM AND HE WAS SITTING BY
THE DOOR.
>> WELL, you got to be able to control your
kid. And you can't, obviously.
>> Yes, I can.
>> No, you cannot.
>> Yes, I can. He has health problems, too.
He has health problems.
>> So, let him run around. run around in in
the field in the parking lot where cars
are driving around.
>> My thing is WHY DID HE CALL MY HUSBAND
when he got out? And my daughter didn't
get she
>> know what day that was. Nick,
>> do you remember what day that was?
>> Did you call Carrie?
>> Yeah,
>> I called today.
>> Who called the other day? Do you know?
>> Johnny like Wednesday.
>> Yeah, Thursday.
>> Okay. And I know when we left, Charlie
told dispatch over the radio that she
was told what the officers were next
time we came out here.
>> I don't know if they long been in there.
He was almost to that building over
there when we got here.
>> I was out here running.
>> Yeah.
>> All right.
>> Nothing, but I did leave my phone number
just in case.
>> I don't even know if it's crap.
>> Honey, I got four babies and none of
them. They were very explosive, too.
>> How many times we made sure it was out
there?
>> They found little locks.
>> Did you find a car? once.
>> Well, I appreciate I'm assuming all
>> everybody around here was like watching
where he was going,
>> right?
>> You know, because um they told us, you
know, just call
>> how many times? Friday.
>> This has been Today is number eight and
I'm not playing with you. This started
right around the time they put that on
here.
>> You know, I've been stuck here for 2
years. I've been stuck in this
[clears throat] place for 2 years.
They're great. They're playing
basketball and
they
>> Is he working?
>> Yeah. All he's down at the He's down
there right now. Damn it. Really?
>> Yes. So, you're familiar?
>> Yeah, we know Sherry very well. Sherry
Showwater.
>> I guess it took them about 10 minutes
and they yelled at her five times
through the window for her to wake up.
>> Speaking with neighbors, officers
learned this marked the eighth reported
instance of the family member being
found outside unsupervised. Neighbors
described having to knock or call out to
the room multiple times before the
mother responded and said they had taken
to keeping an eye on the family member
themselves.
>> How old are you, ma'am?
>> 38.
>> 38. You used to live in Bloomingberg.
>> What brought you here?
>> She condemned our trailer cuz it was a
nasty mess.
>> Was it nasty?
>> Not surprising. This is on its way. This
it stinks and it's disgusting.
>> Does this YouTube live here?
>> No. She has a daughter, too. She kicked
out in the middle of the night.
>> Where's his dad at?
>> He's at work right now. Working.
What?
>> I don't want to go to jail,
>> Sherry. My god.
>> I don't want to go to jail.
>> This has been nonstop since you've had
your kids back.
>> I don't have my daughter. My daughter
>> Where's she at? Hospital.
>> She went here by the
>> Because she was sleeping with the
Hispanic men around here.
>> Yeah. And my mom SAID, "I HAVE NO SAY
OVER IT."
>> You were in charge of her. So, you
didn't know as a 17-year-old, she was
sleeping with the men.
>> No, I didn't.
I'm trying to get
>> Sherry my
>> Hey, remember what we just talked about?
This is
>> I'm not doing
>> everything.
>> So, where's dad?
>> I have to go get somebody.
>> I don't have any stuff.
>> How can he get out when you're in a room
that's 250 ft? This door does come open.
Where are you?
>> I was right over there.
>> They said it took them four times to
knock on your door.
>> I work, you know, I work ALL DAY LONG. I
TOLD YOU THIS WHEN YOU GUYS do this
again.
>> Yes, I know.
>> It's 2:00 in the afternoon. I'M DONE
WITH THE EXCUSES.
>> I'M NOT I'M TRYING TO CAN I EXPLAIN,
PLEASE?
>> YOU DOOR DASH DURING THE DAY.
>> YOU DON'T NEED TO BE SLEEPING AT 1:00 in
the afternoon.
>> Well, I need you to call the his
[laughter]
>> I'm just
>> Did you tell him that you're going to
jail?
>> What am I going to jail? Please. You're
going to do
>> I can't afford it.
I can't move.
>> Would your mom take him?
>> No. She just gone to her point. I DON'T
WANT TO FIGHT.
>> SO, what about your grandparents that
live over on Jameson Road?
>> No. He has a a dog that is violent.
>> Okay. Well, then he's going into foster
care. So, you either give me a name or a
family member or I'm putting him into
foster care. Like, those are your only
options.
>> He doesn't work right now.
>> Then you I would suggest you call his
works.
You're making the situation so much
worse.
>> OH, HE'S CRYING.
>> I KNOW. SO, be be a mom in in coverage.
>> I DON'T WANT TO BE.
>> SO, what's going to happen tomorrow
while your husband's or while your
boyfriend's at work, Sherry? Do you
trust him with Alan without you?
>> Okay. So, you don't trust him without
you? So then what do you suggest we do?
We're just going to leave him here and
hope that
>> Please don't take me. I take him to
school and everything else.
>> Where do you take him to school at?
>> Go to the early morning.
>> Well, somebody's going to have to take
him tomorrow.
>> Please don't take me. I say please.
>> I'm not I'm not taking anywhere.
>> Please. I can't afford to go to jail.
>> Sherry. Gosh, stop.
>> Cedric already got orders from a
sergeant. Hi. I'm Ashley Ward from
Children's Services. We were called out
here because and multiple times back.
>> If I'm here, why are you taking him?
>> I'm not taking him.
>> We should be. We should be taking them.
>> Believe. [laughter] Hey, I was at work.
>> Come on. Come on.
>> Give him the boy and then come on. Let's
go.
>> Just do it. You're going to have to
>> step on out here. It's nasty in there.
I'm not going in there. Come on.
>> Come on.
>> So, listen. He gave you a walk order. If
you don't come here right now, we'll
rest it for
>> She's coming. She's putting her flip
flops on.
>> All right. Come on.
>> She's putting her shoes on.
>> Okay. Okay. Well, what do we say? Come
here.
>> I get it. I get it. I get it. I know.
>> Pull your pants up. Let's go.
>> Head over to the car. This way. This
way. This way.
>> Why does the people got to sit down here
and stare at me?
>> They can sit out here if they want.
We're going to do in the front. All
right. Cuz I don't
>> What do you got on you? The phone.
That's it.
>> That's my phone.
In the end, the children were safely
taken into children's services as no
immediate member would be able to take
them. Officers moved forward with
charging the woman with endangerment,
bringing the investigation to a close
with neighbors confirming this was far
from an isolated incident. The eighth
reported occurrence made clear that the
child's safety had been at risk well
before the officers ever arrived that
day. 950 m away, officers had responded
to a case that started small but didn't
stay that way for long. Where the
previous case was built slowly with a
pattern only coming into focus after
officers spoke with neighbors, this case
unfolded almost immediately, growing
within hours into one of the more
extensive investigations officers would
encounter. On January 8th, 2024, Broward
County, Florida, officers responded to a
residence after a caller reported two
family members running outside alone in
diapers, one covered in feces, the other
with from the hand.
>> She said that uh it happened for a
minute. She was in there sleeping. Mom
left. I told her she was leaving.
>> So, who was walking back and forth? Him.
>> Just two. Two. Two kids.
>> So, who's she on the phone with?
>> Mom.
>> Where's the other child?
>> Is she the mom or sister?
>> Sister.
>> Your hand hurt.
>> Ma'am, just do me a favor. Go ahead and
grab your ID.
>> He doesn't Why is he
>> Why did he grab my report on this
incident? Ma'am,
>> why is he not this?
>> It doesn't matter. You're the adult in
this house. You're responsible for these
children whether your mother told you or
not. She didn't tell me that.
>> It doesn't matter. You're still the
adult in this house with two kids
running out in the street. I NEED YOUR
ID.
>> I NEED YOUR ID cuz I need to write up
child neglect. That's what I'm doing
right now.
>> I was not telling you that.
>> Doesn't matter. You're the adult in this
house. YOU
>> SHE DIDN'T TELL ME. I WAS
>> THAT'S NOT HOW THE LAW WORKS.
>> GO AHEAD AND GRAB YOUR ID. GO AHEAD AND
GRAB YOUR ID. GRAB MY ID BECAUSE I
DIDN'T DO THAT THEN. HOW ABOUT THAT?
>> THIS IS NOT MY KIDS. YOU CAN'T I CAN'T
GO TO JAIL. HOW MUCH YOU WANT?
>> YOU NEED to grab your ID cuz you want to
go to jail.
>> You're an investigation. You have to
grab your ID.
>> How do you want to play it? How do you
want to play this game right now?
>> Like, what the [ __ ] I WANT TO GO.
That's crazy. What the
>> Not saying you going to jail, saying we
writing a report.
>> You're not going to hinder my
investigation, man.
>> Yeah, it's getting messed up.
>> Do you have any? Are you cut too? You
okay?
>> Let me see. Come on.
>> What's up, baby?
>> His big sister
>> 22.
>> Can she tell us what happened? I believe
you know what happened.
>> Do you know what happened? The mom.
>> The mom right there.
>> She doesn't want no parts of this. She
almost just got arrested.
>> People you did not tell her.
>> Do you know what happened to the child?
>> SHE KNOW WHAT HAPPENED. SHE KNOWS WHAT
HAPPENED. I DON'T KNOW. I WAS NOT HERE
when that happened. That's why I'm
telling you to tell her.
>> So stop lying to the people like I know.
What's your phone?
>> Just check out the other kid when y'all
get a chance. Just stand right there. I
need another diap. It sound like smells
like
>> I just took him
back.
>> Does he have chickens
or something?
>> A lot of these marks and stuff on him.
>> He has asthma.
>> Are you his dad?
>> He's got stuff under his arms.
>> Kid has crap all over his freaking
>> Yeah, he's got one on his leg, too.
>> Is your mom Angela?
>> No.
>> That was your mom that was here with the
kids?
>> I know.
>> Okay.
>> All the children live in this house.
>> Who's the guy that's in that?
>> We don't know.
So there's random people that are just
in the house.
>> That's not a real person. That's
probably somebody she know. But I don't
know who that is cuz I didn't see their
face. I was in my room.
>> So who was responsible for watching the
kids today?
>> I don't know. I was sleep.
>> So you don't normally watch any of your
siblings.
>> If she tell me I would sleep, ma'am. I
don't know. I was sleep.
>> Okay. There's no reason to get
defensive. I'm asking some question.
>> I just told you I was sleep. You asking
the same question.
>> There's nine of you children that love
you. Well, you're an adult, but
>> my brother is
>> four. He's not here at the moment.
>> So, that's eight. So, who else lives
here?
>> My mom and her kids.
>> Those four are in school.
>> Yeah.
>> So, who does the house belong to?
>> Does she rent it or she own it?
>> She rent it.
>> How long have you guys lived here?
>> About a year.
>> Do you know how the injury to the finger
occurred? How the baby got cut on the
finger and the foot?
>> I was not here.
>> You weren't here?
>> When those things happened, I was not
here. Happy hour.
>> What about your other sibling that's got
like a whole bunch of marks
>> through his back like healing scars on
his leg?
>> I know he got everything.
>> No, these are line marks. It's not like
I mean he's got a few little eczema
things up in the back.
>> I don't know. I don't cuz they play
rough. That's all I can say.
>> How does your mom usually discipline
them when they
>> She don't She let them do whatever they
want. That's why it's messed up.
>> You guys have any animals that live in
this house? I have to ask this. What is
that smell that's in the house? Because
it smells like feces. It smells like
crap. Like it smells like that urine and
whole bunch like dirty trash. And I mean
the house is a mess.
>> The kids dirty up the house every day
now. If you live with them, you will
know they dirt up the house every day.
Yes, we clean up after them every day.
They dirt up the house every day. They
put juice on the floor before they left.
They had juice on the floor everything
before they left. They terrorized the
house. If you live with them kids, then
you'll know. They mess up everything.
They don't They mess up everything.
>> I also had seen that there's no food in
the refrigerator. What?
>> It is food in the refrigerator. She got
food in. She just went to go buy food
last night and she got to go buy more.
And she got a lot of kids. What y They
eat like animals.
>> And I'm well aware of that.
>> Like what y'all saying? There's no food.
It's little food in there. She just got
to buy more. They eat like animals.
Y'all if y'all live if y'all need to
come live with people so y'all can stop
assuming like that's annoying. Y'all
saying it's no food. What the expect?
It's a lot of kids in the house. GOD
SPIT. WHAT THE HE SAY?
>> OKAY, I'm not going to sit here and
argue with you,
>> okay?
>> Cuz I'm going to tell you, you could
have very little money and I'm sure your
mom gets food stamps and other things
else like that.
>> Okay, and they eat like animals. They
eat like animals and you got to buy food
every day. That's why she wouldn't want
to argue with you.
>> Okay, then we don't have to talk at all.
Simple as that.
>> Then you can go back and
she just slammed her foot in the door.
Questioned further about the household,
the older sibling denied knowledge of
how the youngest had his hand and denied
knowing how healing marks on another
family member's back and leg occurred,
ultimately attributing them to rough
play. She also pushed back on officers
observations about the smell inside the
home and a lack of food, becoming
increasingly combative before ending the
conversation and shutting the door on
the officers.
>> Release your hands. I'm not doing
nothing. Come on. You better
with the police station. Yeah.
>> Seat belt.
>> I don't need no seat belt. I'm good. I
>> still got the seat belt on.
>> I'm not aggressive today.
>> Got you. So you don't hit this. Listen,
I don't know what happened. I'm just
here to transport you. All right.
>> I'm going to jail police station.
>> Uh to jail.
>> Officer, I need to change my pants,
please.
>> Your pants?
>> My maxi pants. Bloody.
>> You'll do that at the jail.
>> They don't have no pads over there.
>> They do?
>> You should call my daughter, please.
>> They're they're working with your your
kids right now.
>> No, but my daughter, my oldest daughter.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. They're working with
your daughters. They're in contact with
her.
>> No, but I want to I don't got a number.
>> You can't speak to anyone right now.
>> Why?
>> Cuz you're going to jail.
>> I'm not trying to fight.
>> I I understand that, but you can't.
>> I love my
little go
to me.
I'm happy. I don't have that. I'm going
to be happy. I'm a victim of domestic
violence. I ain't going to let nobody
trigger me and take me out of character.
But I want to know why you tell me put
my handcuffs. You ain't making me my
rights. Remember rights. I went to
school for criminal justice. I know
about the system. You ain't bring me my
rights. They trying to trigger me. Can I
speak to the sergeant? My kids could
tell them that what the officer did to
choke me off my son. They was there.
Hello.
>> Yeah.
>> So they could tell the people that they
too. But they talk very good proper. You
got to earn what they want. I take a
moment to deserve what I'm doing wrong.
Whatever help they need, I try to get it
myself. Who helping me? But now I'm
going to [ __ ] like me. That's not
right. That's not true.
>> I can call her.
>> No.
So, I'm not trying to think. So, I got
Who I got to wait here for?
>> The detective. When she comes, she's
going to talk to you.
>> She at the hospital.
>> She coming out.
>> I'm going to get the sergeant to come
talk to you.
>> I was in the hospital thing. I had this
mulling. And I'm going go drop my son
off. My other kids, four kids off to
school. My other two kids came out, but
my daughter was home at the house. And
they trying to say I'm the one is my my
reason that my daughter my kids came
out.
>> Okay.
>> I went to the kids out. So when I got to
the hospital cuz my son had a cut right
here.
>> Okay.
>> And um it came this but you know it's
open to close. It got closed on its own.
>> Okay.
>> So um I had wrapped but he took it out.
But when I I bought more wrap and I came
back home.
>> Okay. But I stopped to call the man
said, "Let me get the car first because
I'm doing remodeling in my house."
>> Okay.
>> So now when I get to the hospital, she
said, "Put hands around you." She slam
me on the floor
while I'm getting arrested for it. She
slam me in the front of my
scratch me and I got back injury.
>> Got scratched.
Right here. Just scratch me on. Were you
resist?
>> No, I was not doing nothing.
>> Even when he came, I was not resisting.
I walk no more. I know resist. I learned
that cuz I was a victim to me. So my
baby that was attacking me, I learned
how to be calm for my classes. So I know
I can resist extra charge.
>> So you went to me and I'm in pain and I
eat all day and I'm dehydrated.
>> Do you need fire rescue?
>> Yeah, I'm in pain. I need some pain
medicine.
>> What What pain are you in? They was
stepping on my bag and my back. My I had
that rod in my bag.
>> So they stepped on your back.
>> Yeah. The one this one step on my bag
and then I have to go outside for the
people in the hospital to see me cuz
>> they close the curtain and I have to
slide outside and I tell Gab come off
the curtain.
>> So nobody stop rescue for you.
>> I was in the hospital. They didn't care.
I was okay. And you'll see how tight
they put it. All the bruises. Mhm.
>> How about my kids? What's going on with
my kids?
>> I don't know. The kids were there,
right?
>> In hospital. Yeah.
>> So, DCF might have came and took custody
of the kids or a relative or something.
>> I don't know. We'll find out.
>> But I want to know what's going on and
I'm hungry. I got to be here for how
long?
>> I don't know. I'll find out though.
>> Can you tell me the charges while I'm
here for it?
>> I will.
>> I don't understand how you I'm in here,
but I don't know why I'm arrested for
it.
>> I don't know.
>> That's what I'm trying to say. Back at
the residence, officers informed one of
the family members that their mother
would be facing charges related to the
altercation at the hospital with
additional charges pending review by the
detective handling the case. Child
protective services began taking custody
of the children in the home.
>> What's going on, Michaela? How you
doing? This is my friend, Mrs. Reed.
Okay,
>> she's going to holl at y'all for a
little bit. I got to talk to Michaela.
You guys talk, you guys step over here
and I'll talk to Michaela. Let her know
what's happening. I don't know what
happened with your mom, but she flipped
out on the hospital and she ended up
fighting me and fighting the detective
that showed up. And so she's at the
police station now. So at the very
least, she's going to get charged with
resisting since she decided to go
berserk on us, which is why DCF is
grounding up all the kids. So the kids
tonight are going to be going with her.
Well, all the kids. I think the other
two are there as well.
So your mom is definitely going to get
arrested for what she did at the
hospital. And then if there are
additional charges, reference, child,
anything, then that's the detective is
going to decide that. All right, bro.
Let me see your back. Turn around for
me.
>> I'm going to figure out how he got all
these scars.
>> Yeah. Where all those scars from,
>> can I use my phone to play Roblox?
>> You got these marks on you, too?
>> Yeah.
>> Let me see. I don't I don't believe you.
>> I do got
>> Come here. You got bumps. I don't got
marks.
>> Let me see what you got going on, man.
>> You know you got a bump lock here.
>> What is all that?
>> I don't know.
>> What happened to your head? I got pushed
into a TV.
>> You got pushed into the TV by who?
>> No, I just tripped in a a table and then
I start right there. What happened to
your eye?
>> That is a good lie. I got hit in the
oven. It makes no sense.
>> So, tell me what happened to your face.
>> A dog bit me right here.
>> Okay. And what happened to your eye?
>> Good. Good truth.
>> And I got hit in the oven with this.
>> Hit in the oven.
>> I accidentally hit myself in the oven
with my eye. But how you got that bump?
>> Yeah. How'd you get the bump? You said
you pushed into a TV.
>> Someone pushed me into the table.
>> Did you go to the hospital for that?
>> Not yet. Did you go to the hospital for
any of these cuts that you have on you?
>> He did go. I didn't go for this cut. She
was supposed to take me because
>> she don't have no car.
>> All right. Hold your shirt up for me,
young man. Oh my god.
>> How'd you get all this stuff on?
>> Oh my god.
>> So I spoke to the detective. Okay. She
told me that it was seven counts of
child,
>> seven counts of child neglect and seven
counts of delinquency contributing to
delinquency of the life. What do you
know?
>> Like you contributed to whatever they
were doing that they weren't supposed to
do or whatever your kids.
>> Which way?
>> I don't know.
>> I don't know.
>> Listen, when you go down to the jail,
okay, and you get released or whatever.
You can see all of that. You can see
what you wrote. And I
fool,
>> okay? Listen, I just informed you of
what I was supposed to inform you of.
Okay? You asked me what the charges
were. Okay? I'm explaining to you what
the charges are.
>> I can't find my kids either.
>> The kids are fine. They are in custody
of either DCF or a relative of yours.
>> That's crazy.
>> Okay.
>> I dropped the kids.
I need nothing. My son had a cut, but
that cut it can't be no stitches. So I
had to wrap my son and I left off. I'm
like, "Why you put handcuffs on me? Why
you doing this for my kids?" That's she
pushed me. Just hold my hand. You don't
want to see all the scratches.
>> She grabbed your hand.
>> You see the scratches?
>> Let me let me snap her pictures.
>> My daughter's 21 years old. She don't
want to allow the kids to come outside,
right? Well, that's not a child. But you
you know I have to get the other kids.
>> You have to go get the other kids.
>> I'm going to drop the other kids off
from school.
And then I was trying to go get me a car
and I went to get stuff more clean.
I'm going go to big block to get the
bunk bed. Um the match for the bunk bed
and one bed. That's why I was missing
and I got a pass in pink cuz I'm fixing
my house up and my furniture was to
come. How did I come outside? I don't
understand.
>> That's going to be up to the detective.
You get obviously you get opportunity to
see the my
>> All right. Here's what's going to
happen. What is What did you do with
that?
>> No. No. Oh, listen. That's my bra. I'm
going to tell you what happened. How you
got in trouble last time. Now, I'm going
to explain it to you before I put your
hand up. That's fine. Here's the issue
we have.
>> That's my bra.
>> You taking your bra and you putting
stuff around your neck. That's a
problem. Okay. No, no. We don't want you
to do that. Okay. So, do me a favor. I
want you to comply with me. Do you
understand?
>> Yeah. Let me sit down.
>> Okay. No. No. Let you sit down. I need
you to comply with me on you. Huh? I'm
going to put in the back. Okay.
>> In the front.
>> I'm not put it hurt in the back.
>> I understand it hurt, but if you were
doing what you're supposed to, it
wouldn't happen. So, do me a favor. Do
me a favor because
listen to
>> do me a favor. I understand you don't
want to be here but there's a process.
So this is what you're going to do. I
need you to stand up.
>> I need you to stand up for me. Okay? Cuz
you can't make allegations saying that
anybody did anything to you. I'm
explaining to you. I need you to stand
up. Please stand up.
>> Okay. Now put your other hand behind
your back.
>> Put your other hand.
It does not work. We don't have Put your
>> We don't I understand that. But if you
would stop doing what you're supposed to
do, then you won't have to worry about
being bruised.
>> I'm going to sit in the front.
>> Do me a favor. Put your hand behind your
back.
>> I know. Wait. Wait.
>> Wait. There's no weight at this point.
>> Put your hand behind your back.
>> It hurts.
>> It's going to hurt if you don't put your
hand on your back.
>> Squeezing it too hard.
>> Put your hand on your back. And it's
actually Yeah,
>> I know. I understand.
>> Let me ask you a question. What is the
problem? Do you know why you
>> No, they just told me.
>> What you mean? They just told me about a
tell me nothing. I ain't call nobody or
nothing. I left my son with my daughter
and they came outside. I'm going to pat
you down. Make sure you don't have
nothing else on you. Okay. I'm using the
back of my hands. Okay.
>> Yeah. I don't like nothing. Like that's
that's what And then I'm here to eat all
morning.
>> Why you kicking the door acting like
that?
>> It just it just hurtful
my kids.
>> Yeah. But we just got a job to do
though.
>> But I didn't eat all day and the
detective play. She
>> just had to do what now?
>> She make me stay for all this time.
>> How long you been?
>> Since 10:00
>> this morning.
>> Yeah. 10:20.
>> Oh wow.
>> You kept me time stuff around your neck
though.
>> I know. Just out and I'm here. I need to
eat all day. I just got my
>> Well, soon as we get you soon, we try to
get you something to eat as soon as
possible.
>> And then look, I don't really know
what's going on.
>> I don't know what to eat. I just got
here.
>> How long you going to be here to talk to
before you get transferred?
>> Good. They monitor you on the camera.
You tap stuff around your neck.
>> Like,
>> but you trying to
because I I lost my kids. I don't
>> you don't get your kids back. They going
to help you,
>> right? But you you act like this, you
won't get them back. DCF will assist you
cuz they don't want to keep the kids.
>> They want to keep the families together.
But what you got to do is you got to
keep a level head. Listen, go through
the process and then DC.
>> I've been through that, but I was at
home. What happened was I got my money.
>> So, have you DONE DEAL WITH THESE? AND
WHAT HAPPENED? I know how to deal with
it. They never said, "Look, I got my
money today. Now I'm going to jail
today, but the kids go outside when I go
pick up my car to go buy my friendship
for my kids."
>> But who was home with the kids?
>> My daughter.
>> How is your daughter?
>> 21 check cuz she was sleeping. That's
what she told them.
>> You know, I left. I got my money now.
You want my card number? That's what I'm
trying to say.
>> Who want your car number?
>> Her she think your daughter set you up?
Yeah, cuz like I said, I'm get when I go
pick up my car or she was sleeping. How
you sleeping? I see you all dressed up
when I come home.
>> You and your daughter get along. Y don't
get along.
>> I don't know how she is. She called for
me last time.
>> Oh, your daughter did?
>> Yeah. I already talked to the detective.
>> No,
>> the detective left her already do that.
>> What you mean? She gone. What you mean?
>> My charges. Can I see my charges?
>> No, I already told you what your charges
were.
>> Seven counts of child. Seven count. How?
Hey, let me tell you. You asked the
charges. THAT'S THE CHARGES.
>> THAT'S WHERE YOUR charges are.
>> She lied on the thing. Only two kids at
my house. I wasn't even home.
>> You said you say you want to go. We out
of here now.
>> I can't believe I'm just saying this.
>> I got Listen, you have your day in
court. Don't worry. The detective is she
wrong? She wrong.
>> But at the same time,
>> drop them.
>> I know. But um how about my barn to come
out and they took my kids? Come on.
>> It's going to be a no bond. The jail got
a setup bar.
>> That's the thing, right? And I did have
food in the refrigerator in the top in
the bottom. I cleaned it out to go buy
um milk and stuff cuz yesterday when I
went to Walmart, I bought breakfast
stuff so they could eat something quick
in the morning and they had meat in
there.
>> Okay. Well, listen. We cleared that up
already. Your results already came back
that you had nothing in your system. So
that that helps your case. Okay. That
helps your you got to think positive
especially for your kids.
>> And you Okay. Okay. Well, then whenever
you get out, you have to do right by
your other kids. And if and if you think
that she needs to go, then then you have
to make those those changes. Okay.
>> I want to j.
>> Yep.
>> I left my daughter home with the kids
she lied said she was sleeping. I think
I got set up.
>> In the end, what began as a report of
two family members running outside
unsupervised unfolded into one of the
most extensive cases officers had
encountered involving nearly every
member in the household. The woman was
ultimately charged with seven counts of
aggravated CA, seven counts of CN, and
seven counts of contributing to the
delinquency of a in addition to a charge
of resisting arrest.
