Police department. If she's actually hurt in there, I don't want to wait. Right before they left, they heard a scream. Oh, it's hot. Getting there. Smoky? Kind of. Yeah, something's burning. I got this, dog. Get on the ground. Get on the On March 26th, 2024, in Pullman, Washington, Melissa a Spokane area hiring manager, was on the phone with 25-year-old Jamie Wilson Spray. Jamie was a chef, just a few weeks away from getting her master's degree. Her marriage had fallen apart. This job was going to be her fresh start. But the interview never ended. A few minutes in, Melissa heard what she described as a scream she will never forget. It was followed by a scuffle and then silence. The line went dead. Shaken, the interviewer didn't hesitate. She dialed 911 asking for a welfare check on Jamie, but she had no idea where she lived. For the next 24 hours, the police tried to find Jamie. She'd moved out of her permanent residence and by contacting her ex-husband Jacob Spray, they found out she was living at a trailer park. The first officers got there within minutes of getting her location. Immediately, they noticed Jamie's pickup truck was still outside, but things would only get stranger from here. Jamie's dog was heard barking from inside the trailer, but there was no sign of Jamie herself. Yeah, I'm dead now. Um That's the truck? Yep. Yeah. He said she said she should still be at work. He said he was just on his way back. Who are we talking to? Jacob. Oh. There's a dog in there. She has a dog. Um but >> She took one. She took one. He kept the other one. Uh no answer. Interesting. What do you think? He said he was going to come over here. I said, "Please don't until I go back cuz I don't want to." Yeah. Cuz like if if she's trying to You guys are trying to keep your distance, you're just going to freak her out. [Music] What? You think she took her vehicle to work? Yeah. Mm, that's enough to See if that phone rings. Yeah. Let's see if the door is open now. It's locked. Police department. Jamie? See if he has a key. Yeah, I got his wallet. Hello? Hello? Oh, I'm sorry. It was switching between my car and my phone. Um do you have a key? Okay. Um can we Well, her phone's ringing in the trailer. Yeah, can we force entry into the trailer? Well, if she's in there injured. Do you want to drive to Lewiston? Well, she's not She's not answering when we knock on the door. Her truck's here. Okay. I'm not sure I'm not sure we're going to wait that long. Okay. Okay. I'm sorry, but I'm not I'm not If she's actually hurt in there, I don't want to wait. Till you drive to Lewiston and back cuz it's an hour and a half. Yeah. That seems a little a little uh long to wait if something's going on, right? Well, I'm I'm obviously not trying to damage anybody's property. That's an exit window. That's what we're doing now. All right. Um call me back on this number if you find something. Um [Music] I will call you back if we find something. Jacob was willing to drive an hour and a half to get the spare keys for the trailer, but the officers decided to find an alternative way in. That's when they realized something even more concerning. [Music] [Music] Oh, I got one here. Oh, it's hot. Getting there. Smoky? Kind of. Yeah, something's burning. Burner's on. It's starting to get light. See if I can see. Hello? Oh, yeah, it's smoky in here. [Music] Hi, dog. Um Do you want to Hello? You got a Burner on. Inside of the trailer. Can you fit through that? Possibly. So, here's my only concern is if There's a dog over there. Some shoes right there. Yeah, I think I wonder if she's laying here. Evidence I don't hear. Let me see if I can reach in and grab my phone. [Music] There's a gun Glock right there. On the counter. See that? I didn't see her. Yeah. See her in the bed? Hello? >> Just the dog. Oh, that's [Music] All right, it's just that trailer sitting on space. I don't know if it's hers. But the fourth one in. [Music] 605 Fiske. Um I got a You got what? Oh, okay. I think the area I can't see is back to the left here for the most part. Yeah. She is He called me again. That's what I'm wondering. Hey, there's some keys right there on the counter. Can you reach them? That would That would get us in. What's that Say that? Her keys are right there on the on the end of the table. Oh, yeah. If we can grab those. Uh you got to ask. No. Oh, Jesus, it's hot in here. Yeah. I wondered when it was all kind of uh sweaty on the windows. I was like, "Man." There's a chair right below you I can I don't know what you can do. Be a little key here. Should I turn that off out here? Oh, yeah, you can. Is it hot in there? Nope. Oh, she's right there on the bed. Alive? Nope, doesn't look like it. Nope. She in there? Yeah. Yeah. She's She's got lividity on her arms. I see. Yeah. Holy She's got lividity. You got to check her pulse. Yeah. Okay, good. She's dead. The gas is on? The The stove's on. >> Stove is on. Yeah, it's like there It's like 120° in there. It's someone was trying to burn it down. She's right there. She's got scratches on her neck like someone choked her. I think we're out of luck. Unless the dog scratched at her. Her neck's all bruised. Her Yeah, it's cold. I don't feel anything in her feet. Oh, it's fairly warm. No breathing? I don't see any breathing. Hey, can we put the dog in a Come here, pup. Come here. Uh car? Yeah, someone tried to burn the stove. There's Yeah, there's stuff on the stove. Come on. Come on. Good boy. I turned the gas off at the tanks. So, the fire's out. What's the dog's name? What's the dog's name? Hi, Derek. Hey. Hey. How are you? So, you want to put the dog somewhere safe? Yep. Derek, come here. Come here. Come here. Come on. Can you load up? Can you go load up? Can you come load up? Hey, come on. Oh, oh, oh, you're okay. Here, here, here. Oh, come on. Come on. Come on. Come on. You're okay. I'm sorry. You going What you going to do, puppy? Count to Oh, good boy. Good boy. Jamie had been beaten, choked, and left for dead, locked in a trailer set to burn with a stove on full blast. From the looks of it, the attacker wanted her and the dog to perish in a fire. But somehow it never got hot enough for that. Due to the temperature in the trailer, Jamie was still warm. Despite not being able to find a pulse initially, the medics tried to revive her, hoping she'd make it. Disconnected to the other incident target. For almost an entire hour after that, the officers continued CPR on Jamie, but it didn't help. She couldn't be revived. This was officially a homicide investigation, but gathering information was going to be difficult. The initial attack took place almost an entire day prior, and because no loud weapons were used and no cameras were facing Jamie's trailer, it was almost impossible to find out what could have happened. But then came in the neighbors, especially the woman who lived next door to Jamie. Hi. I'm Officer Kramer. Okay. Uh So, you live in the The black and white Malibu. >> The The black imagine. Number seven. Okay. What time did you leave? Um I don't know exactly what time I left. I went to the gym at 5:55 cuz I paid for parking, so the time time stamp's on there. Um So, maybe like a little bit before that, maybe like 10 15 minutes before that. So, you were at the gym 5:55. So, tell me you from like just before you left until you get to the gym. Yeah. So, actually the pizza got delivered as I was changing to go to the gym, so like it all was in within like a pretty close time frame. Okay. And then I got out there cuz I know the numbering's kind of weird, so I like stuck my head out and told the guy where to go, but I gave him the wrong direction and I told him to go that way. He got sent back this way, so the neighbor next to me should also know about the pizza. Okay. And then they came back and delivered it to the house. To your No, to the other house, the one that's on this So, it should be six. So, the cracked one. So, the white one. Okay. So, So, the Okay. So, like the pizza went to the Malibu. To the to the white RV. Directly next. Okay. Um and then I changed and I think it was like a little bit after the pizza got delivered that I heard the scream. Do you Do you remember what pizza? Was it like It was Domino's. Domino's? The delivery driver came. Do you remember what kind of car that was? >> Um it was white. I didn't get to see like the entire car, but it it was a white car. Okay. Was it a big car or No, it was like a sedan. A sedan? >> Yeah, totally mine. Okay. A little bigger than mine. Was the pizza person still here when you heard the scream or were they gone? >> had left. I don't know. I mean, I didn't see their car in the window anymore. And like I saw them go up to the door. Uh-huh. Uh cuz I watched him. I feel really bad for him cuz they're the numbers aren't on there, so I watched him go to the neighbor's the wrong neighbor's house. Um and then I saw that neighbor point him into the right direction of the right house. Mhm. And I saw him walk over to the right house and go in. Or like go around the corner. Can't really see him go through the whole thing. >> Okay. And then I did hear the car kind of like roll away, so. And when did you hear the scream shortly after? Yeah, it was like shortly after I Like I said, I couldn't really make out what kind of scream it was. I figured it was like an excited scream. I saw that the neighbor had a a visitor, which she normally doesn't have. And we're talking about the Mallard? >> Yeah, the white one, right? >> So, she She normally doesn't have anyone in there. It's usually just her. Uh it's just like her and her truck. Uh but I saw that she had like somebody else there and it was like a red SUV. Uh I think it might have been her significant other. I saw them like move their RV the day that like she got here. Uh-huh. And it was the RV and then another car. Well, the RV with the truck and then that red car had moved her in. And I did see the guy and they like kissed, so I'm guessing it was like her significant other. Okay. And I didn't know if it was like an excited scream or like a scary scream. Okay. So, was there a red SUV? Yeah, it was like maroon. And so, that was Where was that parked at? Um So, the truck usually parks like this and then this car was like this. It was like this? >> Yeah. So, like kind of like It's kind of hard to describe. Um Okay. I'm going to I'm going to do my best. Big. Here's the trailer. And she usually parks So, she's kind of like this. >> Yeah. And then that car was like next to her on this side, but I can't really I think it was like this. Okay. So, somewhere Yeah, somewhere like that. Yeah, yeah. >> Somewhere like that? This is the red one? Yeah. And you saw the visitor? I didn't see him, but I I mean, when he I saw him drive the car when she dropped when he dropped her off here. So, I know that it was a man. Like dropped her off today? No, like when she moved in. She moved in a little bit ago. Like I think like within the last like month and a half month. Okay. >> She hasn't been here for very long, so I like just happened to be home when she was pulling the RV in. Mhm. And so, it's her Moved in roughly month ago. And it was her and her truck with hauling the RV and then the maroon SUV. And that's when you saw that it was a man. Yeah. Okay. And they kissed, so I was guessing it was a significant >> Okay. The witness identified a man, possibly her current significant other, and heard the scream Melissa also heard on the phone. The pizza delivery was a new detail, though, and it's possible that the person who delivered it might have seen the man who attacked Jamie. No. Okay. Uh I need to track down the delivery driver that made the delivery earlier. Um I need to talk to him. It's not trouble. I don't know who it is. Can you look up an order or something? Um yeah, I only started a couple months ago, so I'm going to go ask my manager if they can look up Okay. Okay. So, I'm trying to track down the delivery driver. Not in trouble. Uh But I need to ask him some pretty sensitive questions. Uh Can you look up an order and tell me who that driver was? They said it was like a white sedan. [Music] Yes. Yeah, it's I just need to talk to him. They're not in any trouble. He delivered to a house and we just need to know what he saw. So it would have probably Yeah, today probably around 5:30 between 5:00 and 5:30. I can give you an address. The driver in question is on a delivery right now. He'll be back in a little while. 8 or 9 minutes if you want to talk to the person. Yeah. So again, he's not in trouble. I just need maybe like 5 or 10 minutes of his time. So but yeah, it's worth me waiting. [Music] Okay. I'm parked right over there. I don't want to talk to him in the car. Yeah, just where it's quieter. So I'll I'll just be sitting in my car. Okay, thanks man. When the delivery man came back, he knew exactly which customer the police were asking about. He remembered getting lost in the trailer park before finally finding Jamie's trailer. However, before he ever made it to the door, a truck parked up and a man claimed the pizza from him. The man then proceeded to enter the trailer, so he assumed that's who ordered the pizza. What he didn't know was that he just walked away from a murder. Jamie's current dating status was unknown and the one person who might know more was her ex-husband Jacob. But no one was prepared for how this conversation was going to go. Jacob? Hey, it's Sergeant Gordon. Oh, appreciate it, man. How are you doing tonight? Okay, I wouldn't shoot anything. You don't have any weapons on you, do you? Okay, can you keep it in there for me? We talked before or we talked road rage thing. Some guy was messing with you, right? Yeah. Yeah. But what's going on with Jamie? [Music] I can't talk to you right now and I'm just like literally in tears freaking the [ __ ] out and I just don't know what the [ __ ] is going on and you guys aren't really being forward with me. Yeah, we're trying to trying to make contact with her and figure out if she's okay. I guess there's some people concerned, so that's kind of what we're following up with everyone. I I talked to her today. I I gave I told I gave you guys my timeline. It was like 3:51 Okay. like that I had talked to her. And that's And that's Jamie? Yeah, my wife. She's still She We're still married. We're filing this Friday, but we've been separated since February 14th. But we've been very cordial. There's been like a couple like instances where we weren't totally agreed on stuff, but like I just gave her like $1,000 so she could cuz she was like wanting to move out of state. Um and I was like, well, she she was like, can I take the trailer? I go, well, I kind of want to keep the trailer. Um but I was like, what if I give you like $1,500 and then technically 1750. But technically 1750, but that was going to like pay for like the trailer insurance. The the 250 that I deducted was like trailer insurance and uh and the divorce paperwork. It's like $314 a month. I said that I'll take that off, but I'll give you the 500 when I get the trailer back. And then other than that, we both agreed no surprise visits. Um I did reach out to her on Monday and asked her if she could get her stuff out um because I was thinking I was possibly renting a room. Just [ __ ] lonely now. You know what I mean? Okay, so you you said the as far as timeline today, you said you lost her around 3:51. Is that p.m.? Yeah, I was like but I was I was still in Moscow. Got you. I work in Moscow. Got you. You Did you talk to her or did you see her? It was Snapchat. My phone's in there and charging, but if you want to see it In which room is it? In my house. I was just pointing in my like living room, but I can grab it real quick. So So you you talked to her at 3:51, but you haven't seen her today? No, I We don't really like cross paths. It's been kind of that thing. Got you. When What in the hell is going on? We're trying to We're trying to get a hold of her. I just You must be Was she like arrested? What's going on? No, no, no. Not arrested. Just We're trying to locate her or whatnot and someone concerned about her, so they haven't heard from her and trying to figure out what what's going on. Can you Uh she's got like a group of new friends. Her dog uh My phone would help me better. Um but You said the truck was there and you said you heard the phone. So she doesn't really leave. She can't leave home without either one really. So what the [ __ ] man? What are you trying to tell me right now? I'm not I'm not telling you anything right now. I'm just kind of trying to figure out what's going on so I can give the officers there what's going on. I just got here. I do you said, hey, can you come talk to She did hook up with a girl in that trailer park. We lived there like over the summer. Um this last summer. Like um and uh there was a girl that she used to hook up with, so And it was like a struggle in our marriage, but she was always like kind of bi. So like I mean, honestly, I know it's stupid to think, but it's better than somebody else. Some dude. So I'm just trying to figure out what happened today. What did she send you or what was the conversation at at You said 3:51. Is that in the after this afternoon? It was this afternoon. Okay, what what was the conversation then? We were just talking. Like we were just I had sent her a thing about that song um It's like a it's a real popular song right now uh Don't take her from me. Like like God can have God can give it, God can take it. And I said this song will always haunt me. And then I was like and then the other one from uh we were always on road trips and it says from strangers to friends to lovers to lovers to friends to strangers. And I always would tell her I never wanted that for us. And I said that one always rings in my head, too. She's like, yeah, like you know, I get it. I understand. And I just said, I hate this. I love you so much. Is that today? Yeah. Got you. And then So we we're still like cordial. Yeah. This seems like an amicable divorce, but the more Jacob talked, the stranger things became. I did call the police on her one time because she like she had threatened me with domestic violence. Like she was like going to stage it. I got you. Um and so she had like showed up here to like She said to get her dog. But it was the same day that she had like threatened me with DV. And she showed up and I called the police and then she got all mad at me for that. But that's like Other than that, we've really been like chill. And you said you when you received those messages, where were you at? I was in Moscow. When did you come back? Uh 6:00, maybe 6:30. Dinner goes out at 6:00, so And you said you work at a you work at a restaurant or something like that, right? Uh sorry. I cook for a resort, yeah. Um but dinner goes out at 6:00, so I mean, it usually takes me a few minutes after that to like kind of wipe down counters, get everything going. I don't know. I usually get back here about 6:30. And did you drive back straight here from I stopped at Boot Barn. Well, for here. I didn't drink it on the way. I didn't drink it on the way, guys. So you left around 6-ish? 6-ish? 6-ish. Have you gone anywhere since since then? Nope. Okay. Um Are you going to tell me what the [ __ ] this is about? Like, do I need to go to the bank and get bail money or what the [ __ ] No. Um but we're trying to figure out, you know, what where you where you've been, where she's been, what's the what's going on with with everything. >> She hasn't responded to me since you got a hold of me because, like I said, I hadn't talked to her. And when did they when did the officer get a hold of you? I'd have to look at my phone. But, he called me and I was still working. So, before 6? Yeah. And so, I went to silent. I had my headphones in. I'm working. I didn't know who Kay Coy was. Um so, I'm like, whatever. He left me a voicemail. So, when I got off once I got home, I think I was I think I was pulling in and I actually called him back or I checked the voicemail. Oh, once you got got home? I think so. >> Okay. Um I might have called him when I was still in the parking lot, but I I feel like I called him when I got here. Got you. Cuz I was just like curious. I'm like, who is this person? And uh he was like, you got keys to that trailer? That's what I was like. One my wife sent? He's like, yeah. And I was like, no. We agreed I wouldn't have any. She's got the key set of keys and Go ahead. Um I have a set down in Lewiston. Mhm. And I offered to cuz he was like, well, we need to get in there. There was a disturbance like a checking on the peace. And that was all I ever heard. And then I think you called me or somebody called me and said I can hear a phone ringing in there. And so, now I'm worried because she was supposed to pick fix the propane thingy like the propane reader. Mhm. Um and it broke. And so, I was thinking maybe she got like carbon monoxide poisoning. But, also I know she's been hanging out with people, so I don't know like if she's like done some bad blow or something. These are not normal things for anyone to talk about. The stove being on was a very specific detail, one that no one but the officers on the scene knew about. Had there been an actual fire because of the stove, there would have been potential for carbon monoxide poisoning, but that never happened. Jamie and her dog were both unharmed by it. Um and then I called my dad just cuz I was trying to figure out what the hell was going on. And uh nobody was talking to me, so What's your dad's name? Uh Randy. Randy? What'd you tell him about what's going on? Not much. I just needed to know what I should do and if I needed to get Did they get money? Cuz I thought I was going to have to bail her out for something. Got you. Okay. So, I was just trying to figure out like how he does it. Got you. Um and you had So, you had your phone So, you made a call to What time would you think you called Randy? Dad's in town, your dad. What time did you call your dad? I don't know. What time is it now? Oh, 8:15. 35 minutes ago, maybe 40. Does Jamie have any health conditions or anything that you know of? Um she went to the doctor cuz she was worried she was like partially autistic or her little brother's autistic and she was worried she might have like like bipolar or like autism. Okay. Um she got on medication, but it wasn't working the way it was supposed to. So, she got off of it. And honestly, I thought she really didn't need it. Uh but other than that, bad knees, um she did have asthma, but um honestly, she was not running, not doing anything. Like I said, bad knees and asthma, so Uh she used to run track and she'd always tell me about that. Like but I I haven't seen her run at all in quite a while. >> So, you're the only one here, right? As far as you know? No one else is in the apartment or anything like that. We have neighbors. Oh, yeah, yeah, sorry. So, there there They go A and they go up and then you got downstairs. Got you. Correct. Okay. Is it a two-bedroom or Two-bedroom. Okay. And then when she asked for the divorce, she didn't have anywhere to go. Sure. So, we uh she'd already packed her bags. She went to stay with a friend. Friends eventually got tired of her. She stayed with her sister. She was tired of the commute. So, I said, just let me tow the [ __ ] trailer up and we'll put it back exactly where we were over the summer. And it's not great, >> Got you. but it's somewhere to live and you're close and you know, it's a little bit less of a commute from driving to Lewiston or from Tico. So, I put in my own lock on it so she didn't like move it or nothing. Oh, got you. On the Right. Yeah. Like I was like, yeah, it's it's going to stay here. Are you going to like ever tell me what's going on with my life? Well, so the the concern is that we found her at the at the trailer and she's not she's not doing well. And the medics are trying to help her. We're just trying to figure out what is going on and what happened to her and and and what's going on. Like what? I I don't know. That's what we're trying to So, I just got a message, "Hey, come ask him about what happened. He's the last one that that knew where she was as far as we know. And so, they're trying to figure out what that is. >> I talked I talked to her like like we're still friends. It makes sense. Email said PC. And so, you know, what's going on there and trying to figure out um what happened. Um do you When's the last time you've been over over to the trailer or something? Uh so, I was over there last night. Okay. Um I dropped off food. Got you. I dropped off jerk chicken with dirty rice and a rice crispy treat and Brussels sprouts that were sweet chili sauce. Okay. And she was about to leave. She was She was on her way out the door. I didn't even go in the trailer. Um we met outside. I tried to make out with her. She said, "I don't want to make out." Hey. Um she did kiss me and we hugged. Mhm. Um but she had she said she had to go to work to do a um a fruit fruit tray for 7:30, so she didn't have to come in and Got you. And I was just getting off work and it was about 6:00 p.m. Where does What does she work in food service, too? Yeah, she's a the catering chef. She's the executive catering chef for Vandal Eats. Like >> Oh, got you. Um I can't remember. I always forget what their company name is. Chartwells, I think is what it is. Oh, okay. But, she works in Moscow as well. Yeah, she worked at the street. I mean, we just work for different companies. Got you. And so, it sounds last night everything was was cool. You guys weren't fighting or anything like that? No. Everything was fine. And we were fine today, too. Everything was fine. Got you. Um like I literally texted her. I said I got the confirmation on our divorce paperwork. So, like I'll go pay that on Friday. Um so, we're all good. And she's like, do I need to be there? I said, "No. No, I guess it sounds to me like I just have to go and show them the stupid email and we're good." Okay. And then we'll have to go in front of a judge or something. Sure. Of course, but um yeah, like I don't know. Like everything was good. She told me she loved me. I said, "You promise?" She said, "Yes." Like I'm sorry. I'm kind of needy. Like I still love her even though she left me. Like I'm still like I I've told her numerous times. I was like, we can't go back. But, honestly, if she were to be like I'll take you back. I'd [ __ ] go back. Got you. Jacob's statement was clear. She was okay when he last saw her and he was still completely in love with her, but something about him was off. When you When you guys You said that like there she's claimed or was talking about claiming domestic violence. Was there any other physical fights between you guys ever in the past or anything? So, there was one about spring break of last year. Um she was pretty amped up about a an event she had where she had to fight in California. And it was kind of a cool event. It was like at a winery, but she she was feeling the pressure of it. And also, she had to like chaperone like I think 12 students, maybe 10, 12 students. So, she was just kind of like stressed out. I had an interview the next morning for Whitman County Hospital. So, I was stressed out. We both drank. We both were hitting not hitting each other, but like hitting each other with like words. And I tried to go to bed. She like grabbed me. I ended up macing her um because she was like swinging, you know what I'm saying? And all I could That's all I could think of. I was wearing this jacket, actually. And I don't have mace in here right now. But, I I had some, right? It was like and I don't have it now, but I had some and so it was like the first thing that I could think of. And she still came at me, now blind, really swinging. And I had like held her and she went the next day and filed a DV report on me, showed him the bruises. She ended up not pressing charges. Um we we talked through it. Uh but uh but like it was nothing I think it was just the stress of both of us. You know what I'm saying? Like we just both were like in a position of this is about to be crazy and can I pull this off? You know. Got you. Uh Will, you want to go inside? Go inside and then again. And as as far as the the split goes, you're you're describing it as as fairly amicable. Yeah. No, I'm I have papers in my car. Um we uh I I don't want it. Sure. Um but she wants it. I love her. We'll do it. Do I like I said earlier, if she were to be like take me back, I would [ __ ] do it in a heartbeat even though it's like throwing my whole dignity and my everything away, but um No. Like she was telling me today, she was saying that thousand bucks I gave her, she's like, I think I'm going to use it and go to California. I was just like, all right. Yeah, like you do you. I'm fine. Um I hate that you're going far away, but >> Sure. Like she's like move to California or just visit? So she said she was going to move to Spokane um and stay with Danny. And then her and Danny were going to go to California. He's like a California native. He's like a rich boy. Got you. Um and he's gay, so I I really wasn't worried about it. I'm like, yeah, I'll be roommates with him. Um but yeah, that's what what she was talking about today when we were chatting. Okay. On Snapchat? Or we No, we talked on the phone too. >> Okay, when was that? Like 1:00. Okay. Like I don't know. How long do you guys do you guys talk on the phone and what do you talk for? I don't know, 20 minutes. Like like I said, we're still best friends. We talk. What do you like? I don't know. My parents still don't get it. They're like pissed about it. They're like, you need to [ __ ] drop contact with her. She's just messing with you. And I was like, yeah, but I still love her and Sure. It's like It's hard when you're not there. >> It's just like easy to talk to her. Like I don't know. She gets me. So I guess then can you explain to me what what everything that was said at the the conversation at 1:00 then? It was mostly about the Spokane thing and then um going to California and um she was happy to She's like, I finally know what I'm doing with that thousand bucks. Got you. >> Did she say where she'd be or what her plans were for the rest of the day? No. I I thought she was at work. Okay. When does she usually get off work? So lately she used to do um salads, so she'd be there like 9:00 to 5:00 pretty much, but according to her, I don't know in the future because again, I'm not keeping tabs on her. But since we've been separated, she says she goes in around 11:00 or noon and then she takes a break between 4:00 and 5:00, lets Derek out. That's our Aussie that she took custody of. Okay, so and that's that's up there. That's Yeah, the trailer He should be Yeah. Yeah. I think they're all And uh yeah, that's Derek. And so she'll come back for an hour, walk him and then go back to work and she said she just eats on the drive and then gets off at like I don't know, 8:00 or 9:00. She's told me she's worked even like as late as like 10:00, but Did So did you think she'd be working until late tonight? Um I figured she'd probably like from what we were discussing earlier, it seemed like she was going out with her friends. Okay. So that's why I thought I was going to have to be like out when you guys started calling me. >> was talking about what she's going to do today. She's going to go out You thought she might go out tonight? That what It seemed like it. >> Okay. All right, man. Do you do you have weapons at the home or anything like that? I would rather not answer that question. Got you. I mean, unless I'm a stickler for safety, man. I just want to I don't got them on me. No, I mean that. I'm just talking about someone who's concerned about. I'm not planning on hurting anybody or myself. Okay. Um So I got you. Okay. That should be enough to answer your question. >> Well, fair enough. I was I was just making sure for you. It's just these stressful times and and whatnot. No, honestly, like I said, I'm at I'm at [ __ ] acceptance. Like I know and she's never coming Not that she's never coming back. She's supposed to be here Sunday and if you would tell me what hospital she's at, I would be more than happy to go see her. Uh I will call an Uber right now, but you're not giving me any information. All you're doing is questioning me and now I'm starting to worry like she did some like coke or something with fentanyl or something and you're talking about another officer coming and which Yeah, they said another It's like got me kind of jittery. Okay. It's just like we don't we don't know the whole story, right? We just got on shift and we were just told to come check on you. So we have we don't even know what's going on, so Well, I don't know the whole story. Yeah. Right. We'll get Hopefully he'll be able to follow He should be up here in a second. He's on his way. That's what you're saying. And so I'm just trying to Can I go grab another beer? I I prefer if you didn't. Um I can leave the door open. Hopefully we'll be wrapped up soon. Yeah. You don't mind waiting for that being I appreciate it. It's kind of inconvenient. Like I'm literally freaking out right now. Well, I have been for about I don't know what time it is now, but it feels like at least two and a half hours since that first call. Um and they were saying that her phone was ringing in the trailer. The truck was there. I asked them to check the windows. They found a window that was open. And then they never answered me after that. And I know her Her truck's there and her phone's there. She's there. And Derek he would be there too. He never leaves her side. That's one of the only truths Jacob told the officers. Derek didn't leave her side even with his own life at risk. So like she didn't have like a lot of people. Uh-huh. And uh my family is very vast. Um so she was just like, I know what I'm leaving behind. Yeah. Yeah, but I just I have to find myself. I need to be me. Almost like FOMO, fear of missing out. Yeah. >> Yeah. Cuz we we got together when she was 19 and we were married I'm still going to always check my pocket and I know my And uh and uh so we got together when she was 19, married or she got married with me at 21 and uh she's 25 now. >> About to be 26. Yeah. So quarter-life crisis, also like should I just waste my whole college career on just being educated and tied down? Yeah. Like I totally understood it. I didn't love it. Like I was telling them, I [ __ ] hated it. I was very bad the first two weeks. Um you know, I threatened to take my own life. Oh, jeez. I was I wasn't going to do it, but you know, trying to get that sympathy vote. Yeah. >> Um and uh you know, I was just sad and I tracked her location and um you know, did everything stupid that you can do um to show all you're a confident male. Yeah. You were saying that sarcastically? I'm just >> Yes. Okay. All right. Um and like that week three, I finally was like depressed Yeah. like she had. And then, you know, week four came around and she's like, can I come through? And I'm like, I would love to see you cuz I hadn't seen her, you know. >> Mhm. And uh and then after that like week three and four, moved on to week five, week six and we've like I said, I brought her dinner the other night. Yeah. Um we still we still talk and we trade Snapchats, we do everything like and then, you know what? It's just nice. I feel close to her even though I know she doesn't She loves me. Uh-huh. She still tells me she loves me. But she's like, I'm not in love with you. Yeah. Yeah. But still just to hear I love you is all I need. Yeah. And I just say, you promise? And she'll say yes. And I'm like, it's all I Okay. Um All right. You said that she you were you were able to to track her location? What? Not anymore. We We So we used to be on the same phone plan. Okay. >> It was my phone plan. >> Through Um Verizon. Oh, gotcha. Okay. >> But uh I had her get off of it. The only thing that we still share is uh a truck payment and uh insurance on that truck. But she's supposed to go take care of that. I don't know she She's supposed to do it this week. Um from with Chipman and Taylor. That's where we got it out of. Okay. He was going to take it back and we were going to do uh restructure loan and get her in something different and then that way my name's off of the loan. >> Yeah. And that way we don't have to communicate over insurance because like I said um the whole separation part of this is like we're trying to separate our lives. >> Yeah. Um and if I have to get a hold of her for bills, that was another thing that she was like "You're always parenting me. You're always like oh, the bill's due on this day." Right. Well, it's due though. That's the thing. Like I'm not going to be a about it. Like you got to You got to talk to Avista cuz like they're saying hey, you're past due. Ziply's about to get shut off. You know. So she's driving the truck, is that right? What kind of truck does she have? >> So yeah, she She loves driving a pickup. Okay. And what kind of pickup does she have? It's like a They call it brown, but it almost looks gray. Okay. Um but it's like a Chevy Silverado 2500. Okay. And then what do you drive? A Ford Escape. Oh, okay. Gotcha. Um All right. So What You're saying that you used to be on the same phone plan. You were talking about being able to see where she was, but not anymore. Yeah, no, I can't. Um she turned her location off. So was that through Verizon? Did they have a a service like that or was that like a I'm not even sure. Okay. Yeah. Uh and then uh you said that uh she moved out uh Valentine's Day or what? Valentine's Day. She She packed her first bag and she went up to Tekoa. Okay. She stayed in Tekoa for 2 weeks. Maybe 2 and 1/2 or 3? >> Huh? Um but her friend Sammy uh kind of got tired of it cuz you know, you can only have the guy on the couch for so long like Half Baked. >> For sure. You remember that movie Half Baked? The guy on the couch? Um and yeah, so um she got kind of kicked out, so she brought Derek back here and she went down to her sister's and then that's when I brought the trailer up, which was spring break and I moved her into that got the water hooked up, got the water heater going uh couldn't get the actual heater going, but I did get a little little space heater um yeah, I'm just like got the everything going, propane and all that jazz um and yeah, just like set it up and she did have to move it once. I hadn't put the the actual pin lock in it yet. Yeah. Um but she had it down lower and then moved it up and then when she came here to actually grab more stuff um she was having problems with the water heater. I had I didn't I didn't move them out. Yeah. So I went down there fixed the valve and I actually put the pin in it. And but that was like 3 weeks ago. I don't know. That was like during spring break. Which spring break? Well college spring Okay. Like WSU spring break? Uh well, Moscow cuz that's where I work cuz I'm at >> You work at U of I? Yeah. Okay. Yeah. What do you do for U of I? Well, I don't work for the I work for a third-party culinary institute that cooks for like sororities. So you Okay, you like contract through >> Yeah, I contract and I'm Do you say you have an Escape? Yeah. Uh where is it? Over there. Or on the corner. Is this where you parked it around the corner? No, it's just my my driveway's Or your driveway's around I'm sorry. I got here at night. So I'm looking here. I was thinking this is your driveway. All right. Well, he's already over there looking at Okay, I gotcha. As soon as I brought it up, he went over and started looking at it. Okay, I gotcha. Um so what um what happened tonight? I know you got a phone call. How did you find out that that we were concerned about her? Well, I was at work um and like I said, it was like KO or something. Yeah. Um called me. I missed the call. There was a voicemail. Uh-huh. And I got off work. You know, unwind, get my headphones out, do everything, put on my music and then I stopped over at Krog Mart grabbed some beer and then um I saw that voicemail sign. Played it on my way back and then I called him when I got here and he was super concerned about Jamie Mhm. and saying that there was a wellness check on her Mhm. and wanting to know if it was here or in a trailer and I said yeah, it would be in the trailer. Yeah. Um she doesn't stay here anymore. And then he called me back and goes "I can't get in, but her phone's ringing." Mhm. And I go, "Well, I don't have a key. That was part of the deal. Um there's one down in Moscow." He goes, "I don't think I can wait." Mhm. And I go, "You should check the windows. Please don't damage it if you can. Um but check the windows cuz I know she's She's not right. Okay. Like But she leaves them unlocked? >> Yeah, she She leaves them unlocked. You know what I mean? So I'm like check the [ __ ] windows like before you crowbar the door open. Yeah. And uh back. And then I texted him. I started calling Jamie. Um I couldn't get a hold of Jamie. Um and it actually rang and rang and rang. It's not like her phone was dead. Mhm. Um it went all the way to voicemail. And then I texted her. I texted that guy. Um and I even I think I even called No, I just kept calling him. I was going to say I might have called dispatch, but I did not. I just kept calling him. I was trying to figure it out like I still don't know what's going on and I feel like you guys are just dragging this out like Well, like I said, it's you know, we unfortunately cuz the way the way that uh I I really I really I really want to see her. Yeah, no, I got you. Uh you said you're at work. What specific location you work at? I know you said you work for a sorority. You cook for them. You work through a a It's like contract. Like Fourth Elm. Like Fourth and Elm, I think. What's the name of the place this is? Oh, uh Alpha Phi. Alpha Phi. Over at U of I. Yeah. Okay, I gotcha. Um and so you went from Alpha Phi to uh Krog Mart, is that right? >> Yep. Okay. And then what did you say you got there? Case of beer. Case of beer. Okay. And then where did you go after that? Here. You went straight here. Yeah. Um it's pretty much a straight shot. Yeah. Who are you working with? Um You work by yourself? I do. Okay. Um and I mean there's girls around. >> There's girls around. Yeah. Jacob was beginning to panic, but he didn't know what was coming next. Um and who else have you called tonight? I called my father. Okay. What did you tell your father? Um that I'm freaking out because the police called and that Jamie is not answering my phone calls and I don't know what to do and I asked him if he could call her and see if she's okay and maybe she's just ignoring me yeah and not like actually hurt. Okay. And he was at the casino and I don't think he heard me because he was there in like Coeur d'Alene casino and so we were cutting in and out, so I don't think he heard me and then the phone went dead. Okay. Um what else did you talk to him about? That was it. Okay. Um would he have told us anything differently? No. Okay. Um How's your relationship with with with him? He's my best friend. Your father's your best friend. Okay. My hero. He's your hero. Yeah. Dude. Tell me about that. Well, he's a vet. Um you know, he worked his ass off in a lumber mill which ended up breaking his body down. Oh, wow. Um he had to get bones fused and removed out of his neck where they had to pull his esophagus to the side Yeah. and put a cage in on it. He's still going through pain. He's survived three different types of cancer. Wow. Um he's Dude, he's got the best [ __ ] looking lawn. In spite of all that, right? Uh uh yeah. No. No, he's got the best looking lawn. Yeah, he walks like this. Yeah. But best [ __ ] lawn. Yeah. Like said that you really respect your mom. Yes. Um Yeah. So, when when when Jamie had told you that she didn't want to be married anymore, um did you talk with him at all or Oh, yeah. We Well, I go down there every weekend now. It's lonely here. You know what I mean? Um Nobody else is with you here? Nope. Okay. Um and so, yeah, like I go down there every weekend. Um Yeah, Fridays, I take care of whatever business I have to do here in town. I go down there. I'll stay Friday night, Saturday night. I come back Sunday. You know, write some menus for work. Um touch up the apartment a little bit, like cleanly wise. Mhm. And uh Yeah, like rest of the week, I'm just like I'm watching Modern Family. Yeah. Yeah, I I was saying earlier. So, you said you said your father was at the casino or something or They're at the Coeur d'Alene Casino right now. >> They're at the Coeur d'Alene. Got you. Um what did he say when you got off the phone with him? Uh we cut out. Okay. I don't think he could hear me. Um and uh I was trying to trying to talk to him and uh it was just cutting out and then it just clicked out and then that was it. Okay. Um but you told him that what did he say when you told him again? So, the cops called about Jamie. Yeah. And I can't get a hold of her. I said, "Would you call her?" Uh-huh. Like but I don't think he heard me because like he didn't say yes. Uh-huh. Um and uh then it just like cut out. Yeah. Yeah, I got you. Um Cuz I thought maybe she's ignoring me. It's where like You're not talking. So, All right. So, that you know, he had we we had been in we had a chance to talk with him. And he shared something a little bit different that you had shared with him. Can you tell me a little more about that part of it though? What did he say? Well, he told us he told us something slightly different. I suspect you might know what he SAID DIFFERENTLY. I GOT THIS ARMPIT. DUDE, GET ON THE GROUND. GET ON THE GROUND. GET ON THE GROUND. Get on the ground. I got this armpit. I got this armpit. I'm locking up. Oh, me me me. Me, [ __ ] That's me. That's me. STOP. OKAY. OH, MAN. I'M DONE. I'M DONE. I'M DONE. I'm done. I'm done. You're under arrest. I'm done. I'm done. I got left armpit. Dude, I'm done. I'm done. Back. I will do whatever you say. Let go. Yes. Roll. Ouch. So, we can go prone. Dude, I'm done. I'm done. I'm going to give you another one if I think you're doing something. >> I'm not doing nothing. Hello. I'm done. I'm done. Okay. I got left. Come on. Don't tighten. I got left so we can go prone. Let me finish to the floor. I'm done. Okay. I hear you. Once we get you in cuffs, we'll figure it out. There's something weird going on in here with the cuffs. You guys left here? It's my left. I got left. It's not going anywhere. I'm not even moving, guys. Do you sleep all right? No. There's nobody here. There's a dog and a cat. Normal pocket items. I know. Time is 21:14. Well, someone's sitting on it. Someone's sitting on it, so I can't give it to you. I need you to say "I do not consent." Do you understand your rights? Jacob's father, Randy Spray, called the police hours earlier. Jacob begged his father not to call. Said he'd rather kill himself than face the consequences. But, Randy made the call anyway. Randy wished he did if it meant no harm would come to anyone else. Evidence proved Jacob had Jamie's skin under his nails, matching the bruises on her neck. Not only that, but he also sexually assaulted her before her death. The coroner ruled homicide, asphyxia due to the compression of the neck. A deep dive into his past showed there was a restraining order against him filed by his ex-girlfriend, the woman he was dating right before Jamie. He also harassed and stalked her as well as threatened to hurt himself if she didn't stay with him. Luckily, she reached out to the authorities and got help getting away from him. Jamie wasn't that lucky. On January 23rd, 2025, the jury found Spray guilty of first-degree murder and first-degree after about 4 hours of deliberation. With the confession and evidence, there was no question about what happened that night. On March 24th, 2025, Spray was sentenced to 26 years in prison plus 3 years of community custody after release. In Washington, that is the maximum life sentence. If he were one state over, he would have received the death penalty. Jacob will be 56 years old at the time of his release. That is, if he serves the entire sentence. He will still have another shot at life, the shot he took away from Jamie with his bare hands.
