[Music] This is 26-year-old Benjamin Lloyd Clover, bleeding out in the woods behind his own home, shot by a man he's never even met. [Music] And this is the man who killed him, 32-year-old Winford Terrell Adams, a sheriff deputy who spent his career protecting others. Tonight he followed his wife Charlotte and found her cheating on him. Unable to process the shock, he reacted emotionally and unloaded his gun into Benjamin. It was only after he'd unloaded the whole clip that he processed what he had done. >> Park County 911. >> Yes, ma'am. I'm at 64 or 6340 all Jefferson Road. I just shot somebody. But Benjamin had stumbled out of the back door and disappeared into the woods. Meanwhile, with Winford still having the gun in his hands and his wife Charlotte hiding somewhere nearby, responding officers had no idea if the body count was about to climb higher or if Winford would turn the gun on himself. >> He just one person that understood me. >> Put the gun on THE GROUND. >> Drop the gun. >> Drop the gun down. >> No, don't do it. Don't put the gun on the ground. >> Winfford and Charlotte's relationship had been unraveling for years. He was insecure. She was social. And the gap between them only grew wider with time when Charlotte started spending time with Lloyd. By all accounts, Lloyd was easygoing. The kind of guy who got along with everyone. That's probably what drew Charlotte to him. He had no idea that being her friend would cause the trust between Winford and Charlotte to collapse and eventually cause the shooting. There was a patrol car in the area, so officers arrived within minutes, but they had no idea what kind of horror they were walking into. The officers split up into two teams. Squad one went searching for Lloyd, hoping to find him alive. Squad two sped toward Winford because with Charlotte's location still unknown, she could easily become his next victim. It wasn't long before they found him. Right outside the property, gun still in his hands, and he was making it very clear he wasn't done. PUT THE GUN DOWN. PUT THE GUN DOWN. >> DROP THE GUN, SIR. >> I WILL COME TALK TO YOU. PUT THE GUN ON THE GROUND. >> PUT THE GUN DOWN. >> DROP THE GUN. >> PUT THE GUN DOWN, >> SIR. SIR, drop the gun. DROP THE GUN. NO, DON'T DO IT. DON'T DON'T DO IT. >> PUT THE GUN ON THE GROUND. >> DROP THE GUN. >> DROP THE GUN. >> DROP THE GUN. >> Drop the gun. Sir. >> Sir, drop the gun. Just drop the gun. >> Just drop the gun. >> JUST DROP THE GUN. >> TALK. >> Even though Winford had just shot someone, the officer's first priority was making sure he didn't shoot himself. No one wants to watch a man blow his brains out, no matter who he is or what he's done. But there was another problem. Charlotte was still unaccounted for. If this turned into a full-on shootout, they had no idea if she'd be caught in the crossfire. >> Drop the gun and we can talk. >> NO. JUST >> NO. PUT IT ON THE GROUND. >> DROP THE GUN. >> Scoot over to the gun. >> I can't see. I don't I can't see. >> Drop the gun. >> He's going on the other side of the car. >> Get to the tree cover. Get to the tree cover. >> Lester. Switch me. >> Put it down. >> Take this. Cover this. I'm going for my rifle. >> Drop back. >> Central. He has a gun to his throat. He's going back in the house. Put it down. >> DO NOT GO IN THE HOUSE. >> Please help him. >> Please. I'm going in here. >> We can't help you if YOU DON'T DROP THE GUN. >> I'm a cop. Drop the sheriff. >> Then drop the gun and we can talk >> after y'all go help him. >> We can't help him if you've got a gun in there. Come on. >> Over there by the house. >> We're not going to go over there with you standing there with a gun. >> That's when they spotted her hiding next to a car directly in Winford's line of sight. >> Ma'am. Ma'am, come to us. Come to us. >> Is anyone else in that car? Charlotte was secured, but Winford was still armed, still unstable, and refusing to listen to anyone on scene. So, they called in the one man Winford might not shoot. >> Oh, look at me, baby. >> I know, baby. Look, look. Hey, you going to come here, man. Come here. You know me. >> Yes, you. Hey, >> buddy. You got me. Come out here and talk to me. Jason Winford's lieutenant was the only person Winford was willing to talk to. But the gun was still in his hands and no one knew if he'd use it. >> He needs to talk to you. Get you okay and we're going to get deal with him. We can't deal with him till we talk to you, okay? And get you out safe. You good with that? All right. We'll walk over here. By walking toward Winford, Jason was putting his own life on the line. In situations like this, shooters sometimes opened fire at everyone nearby because they don't expect to, nor do they want to survive the encounter. But the other officers were ready, hands on triggers, watching Winford's every move. He's cut off my >> Yeah, I can't I can't >> Good lord, son. >> I can't >> I can't shoot him. >> I can't do nothing. [Music] Why are we moving? >> Cuz he's got all >> lead. >> What? >> Just lead it. Take a lead. >> We shouldn't be doing it. That's the point. >> Stop. Stop. Here, I got >> We'll talk about it. Okay, >> we're going to talk. You know that. >> Huh? >> You got a lot of people here. We're going to work for you. >> Winford was finally cuffed and removed from the porch. But while Squad 2 had secured the shooter, squad one was still out there searching the woods for a man who might already be dead. For Squad 2, however, there was still one question no one had answered yet. Was Lloyd the only victim tonight? >> I got long cover left. [Music] Clark County Police Department. Clark County Police Department. If you're inside, make yourself known. Do it now. Open door right. Open door left. >> Left. >> I can't slice. >> He has a lot of >> Cover me low. I'll go low. Cover high. Bedroom's clear. >> We're at the bottom. >> I got a kitchen. Kitchen's clear left. >> Clear right door there. >> Yep. >> Hard corner right. >> Hard corner left behind the door. Looks clear. His wall is facing. Cover my right. Cover my right. I'm going to go low. >> Dryer unless there's somebody sticks up. >> Okay. Behind the door looks clear. Pushing. Okay. >> All right. Back of the door is clear. Back porch is clear. Everything check. No. Everybody good? >> All right. Good. >> Yep. 66 central. >> Wait, you checked that far? >> Who checked that? >> No, I held it. >> [ __ ] >> I can't see that corner. Can you see behind the door? Uh, >> not really. Can you see behind the door now? >> Yeah. >> Good. >> Watch. I'm going low. [Music] Door's clear. Rim's clear. House is clear. Coming out. >> The house was clear. Two houses over. Squad one finally had eyes on Lloyd. He had been shot in the chest, though he was still breathing barely. What happened? >> How many times did you see this once? >> I can't. >> Ma'am, was this your husband? >> No, sir. >> Who was it? >> No, he lives here. >> Okay. >> It was that guy. >> What's the guy's name? >> No, his name's >> What was it? What was the guy's name? >> Trey. >> It's what? >> Trey. >> Trey. What's the last name? >> Dylan. Yeah. >> Go get me a trauma dressing. Get a last name. Run and get me a trial dressing. >> Go around the left side of that. Hey, go around the left side of that. I'll go with you. >> What is Trey's last name? >> Huh? >> Don't know. >> Get his name. >> What is your name? >> I can't remember. >> Benjamin Lloyd. >> Benjamin Lloyd. >> 1993 May 31st. Hey, keep talking to me, buddy. You allergic to anybody? >> The light doesn't work on this. No. >> Jesus. Any medicine? >> Lloyd's condition was critical, so he was rushed to the nearest hospital by ambulance. At the same time, officers were trying to transport Winford from the crime scene to the station without things escalating further. >> Everything I said to him, I consent. I I'm fine with talking. I'm fine with it being played before. >> I understand that. >> But I want to make sure it's clear. I'm not difficult, okay? >> I'm not going to be one of the [ __ ] people y'all have to talk to. Or >> listen to me. You know, you know the only concern I have right now >> and and the thing that is good out of all this, I'm happy that you did not put us in a situation to have to shoot you. >> I would have never >> I am Listen, I am also happy you did not shoot yourself. No matter what happened, I >> No, you should not have. >> Nope. Listen, listen to me. Listen to me. >> How old are you? Yeah, I think I'm 31 32. >> Okay. It ain't worth it. That's my opinion. Okay. You got plenty of life left to live. Live it. That's all I got to say. >> I don't know why. >> Listen. Hey. >> Well, no. When Lieutenant showed up, I don't know why. For some reason, I didn't feel like I could do it with him here. >> Good. I'm glad because it keeps you alive. >> Tonight, I lost a wife. Tonight, I'll probably lost my land. Well, listen to me. Don't Don't stress out about it. We're in the present. >> Don't worry about what's already happened. >> Move on. >> Own it. >> No, I know. >> I know. And that that's what I'm saying. Own it. You're already saying you want to deal with it. Move on with life. >> I don't know how I can ever >> listen. Hey, know how >> I'm gonna tell you one thing and one thing only. Okay. If you're legitimately upset about this as you say you are and you are you're portraying make something of your life for the rest of it for the positive. You clearly were already trying to do that by being police, right? We don't come into the job to be [ __ ] and kick in doors. We try to help people. Well, you know what? Those are the ones that don't need to be in the job, right? Go ahead and drive him down to East. >> We're going to we're going to take I'm pretty sure we're going to get the whole truck and everything. >> Meanwhile, another team made a discovery at the front of the house. Winford's truck. Bullet holes riddled the exterior as if Winford had been firing at someone trying to escape. The shooting didn't begin inside Lloyd's house. It began here. It appears Winford may have tried to kill himself before he ever made it to the house. And it also confirms something else. The gun he used on Lloyd wasn't the only weapon he brought that night. Winford may have been planning something much larger. While officers processed the vehicle, they turned to the one person who could explain why any of this happened in the first place, Charlotte. She was the whole reason Winford showed up here tonight. And yet somehow she seemed like the most clueless person in the entire investigation. >> I was scared. >> Where where were you when the shooting took place? >> Right next to >> And where was he? Where was he? >> The fellow that was shot. >> He was on the front. >> And where did Trey shoot from? From here. >> I don't know how that happened. I don't know when. Did Trey approach y'all up there at the house? >> No, he came burst in the door cuz he doesn't lock the door right there. >> I was just eating some ribs. I was just >> Okay. So, I'm trying to establish crime scene. >> Let me find that. You're trying to talk to me. Okay. Okay. >> So, you What's the fell's name that got shot? >> Lloyd Clover. Lloyd. Okay. >> So, you and Lloyd were in that white house? >> Yes, that's Lloyd's house where he's ringing. >> Is that where the shooting took place? >> Okay. >> But Lloyd had run over there and I didn't know he was over there. I didn't know where he was. >> But he shot Lloyd in the house. >> He shot Lloyd on Lloyd's porch. Trey was in the house. Lloyd was running away on the porch and Trey shot at him for >> while he had his back. >> We found out where it was maybe >> and Lloyd made it back to his house over here if that's his house. >> Who? That's somebody else's. I don't think he even knows them. >> Okay. Well, he made it to that house. And Okay. >> Yeah. So, there's probably a blood trail from the porch. Okay. >> Over there. >> And I know Trey is such a good person. I mean, he's a Madison County Sheriff's Deputy. He's just been a little off lately, and I was scared. >> And I I'm trying not to give up all my friends, but I was scared because he's been acting so weird. He This is not like him at all. I don't know what's wrong with him. You know, >> this was the moment Charlotte fully understood why Winford had done what he did. But instead of grief or remorse, her reaction was cold. so cold that when I was researching this case, I had to do a double take almost every time she opened her mouth. The minute she realized Winford was in cuffs, however, she stopped being the cheating wife and became the biggest victim on the scene. And as the night went on, she leaned further and further into that role. >> This is all a misunderstanding. Why is this gun here? I thought he had another gun in his hand and a shotgun. Like he said there's like eight guns in the boat. >> Okay. >> Did he like try to shoot himself before coming in here? >> I I don't know all the ins and outs of it now. >> How cool. J and I have been together forever like >> Okay, >> this is just this is so ridiculous and and uncalled for. I told him I was not cheating on him. Lloyd is my friend. Lloyd is seeing like eight other women. Eight. But I'm not included in that. Like literally, I haven't kissed the guy. Like literally, we aren't even That's not going to happen. We're not like that. Like this is so this is so ridiculous. But Trey is so like possessive and controlling. He doesn't want me to talk to a guy ever. >> Do you have some family coming in route to you? >> I haven't told them. >> Okay. I I I don't really have any friends. Like Lloyd was my friend. >> It is my friend. He's okay. Everything's fine. I hope. >> What Charlotte didn't know was that Lloyd had already died. He passed away shortly after arriving at the hospital right after surgery began. While she was still processing what happened, the case went from attempted murder to homicide. But somehow for Charlotte, this wasn't about Lloyd's life being taken. It was an attack on her independence. >> But I I mean I have some yoga friends, but this is just so embarrassing. >> Well, don't think of it as embarrassing. It's traumatic, right? Your friends are going to want to be there for you. >> I don't want my job to know and Lloyd's part of my work. >> Where do you guys work? >> They work at BGA. Oh, >> okay. >> And I They already hate me there because I went to Georgia Southern. I just This is the last thing I need right now. I'm just glad T's okay. I want him to I want everything to be okay. I want him to get out be okay. He's just He's not like this. But he was being so controlling and Lloyd's so brave. I told him I was like, "Lloyd, you know, I'm going to go any minute now, but just like put your arms around me like I'm scared. Just for a minute, you know, and Trey burst in the door." Oh. I have never seen I mean I've noticed some weird things with but that that's now I know I really did have everybody be worried and scared but I'm really worried about because I didn't even know that he actually shot him. I didn't even know. I thought he missed cuz T got shot. >> Hearing Charlotte's perspective made one thing clear. There was a lot more going on beneath the surface of this marriage. And so, as Winford was taken into custody, Charlotte was brought in for questioning, too. What no one anticipated was just how complicated their stories were about to get. Detectives spoke to Charlotte first to gather more information about Winford and the events leading up to the shooting. But they made a strategic decision. They wouldn't tell her that Lloyd was dead. If Charlotte knew Lloyd had already passed, she'd choose her words very carefully. But if she believed Winford was going away and she might still have a future with Lloyd, she'd be relaxed and willing to talk. And that's exactly what investigators wanted. It's a technique called strategic ambiguity. When someone thinks they have the full picture, they filter everything. But when they don't, they speculate, they explain. They ramble important details. I wanted to talk to you first because you don't uh have a lot of answers to a lot of questions and you got to have to help fill in the blanks. Okay. >> Seeing she was still on edge, the detective started slow, letting Charlotte think she was in control. >> Tell me about tonight. When I got When Trey got home, I was trying to get out of there real quick, but he was right there in the driveway. And so anyway, but I just told him that like I was going to go eat dinner and I'll be right back and I was. Boy invited me over to his house for ribs. So I was going to go over there and I thought probably some of our AI people would show up cuz Lloyd knows this dude who's on the AI team who's >> No, first of all, who's Lloyd? Lloyd is my friend, >> okay, >> who got shot by. >> Throughout this conversation, Charlotte kept referring to Lloyd as her friend. But you can see the shift of when the boundaries of what friends are gets tested and how effortlessly the detectives catch her on it. As far as Charlotte believed though, she was playing the role of innocent wife perfectly. >> How long have you been a year? Like that's no noise, but Trey is so possessive and controlling and doesn't want me talking to guys. And I know it's just to protect me, but I get along with guys better than I get along with girls. So I ended up meeting Lloyd and just, you know, I just talked to him about stupid stuff like what not stupid stuff. I talk to him about everything because we're friends, but also we're on the same wavelength. >> So, y'all not lovers? >> No. >> You're platonic friends. >> Literally platonic friends. >> Like literally never kissed him. Never did anything with him. Never even We never even went anywhere with that. That's just like >> Does Trey know him? >> No. Trey doesn't know him. Never met him. >> Never met him. >> And then she started contradicting herself. >> I mean, it's not like I go over house every day. I mean, I I've been over there like five times, you know, for like various stuff. Like we all got together for an AI party one night and it was what is a party? >> I'm glad you asked cuz I didn't know. >> What is AI? >> I just made it up. It's like we just before we got together and um we just talked about like the artificial intelligence stuff that they're studying and >> I mean it was literally almost like >> getting together with your work friend. I mean that's how I view Lloyd. He's he's a work friend. He's been to yoga with me. He's a yoga friend. >> Okay. >> You know it's like >> Okay. So when you had told Trey that you were going to leave and get something to eat and come right back. What time was that? I don't know. I mean I I mean my wife's house is like 20 minutes away. So what time will we call? >> Um it's about 7:30. >> Well, I had a message to Lloyd saying I'm on my way to look up. >> So you had a lot. >> What do you mean? >> He's okay. Lloyd, his little spot is on. >> I don't understand what you're talking about. like the green light is on on his messenger and that left me was on it, right? >> Oh, does that mean he's looking at messenger right now? >> Hopefully. >> Okay. So, >> what time did you think >> What time did you uh text Lloyd? And had you all previously talked about meeting up and having something to eat or hooking up or whatever today? Yeah. >> Right here. Uh 509. What have you been up to? >> Uh cookie ran home from work. Waiting for this girl to message me. His other girlfriend. He and not other but his girlfriend. He has girlfriends because he's single. You know, it's not like that. Like we talk about like girls together. Like it's not you know what I mean? >> I mean that's fine. I'm trying to give time. >> Okay. So 509 is when we talked about it >> and just like that Charlotte slipped other girlfriend which made her what exactly? Now to be clear Charlotte didn't pull the trigger. That's all Winford. But the innocent wife she was playing that mask was starting to crack. >> And then at 5:38 I caught my rabbit and put him back in their hutches so I could come over. So I would say and he's like okay. So on Wayne. So, I would say I left at like 6 or 6:30 and got to Lloyd's house by 7 cuz I mean we lit there before everything happened. Had you just gotten there? Had you been there for an hour? >> It had not been an hour. >> Okay. >> What? All we talked about was his girlfriend. What else? which I told him about Trey's sort of old girlfriend, but I just called her his girlfriend. But we had had a fight like years ago about this girl that Trey worked with, which is the one who he called tonight who was calling me, who I guess called to have his truck towed. So, >> I mean, we talked for like 20 minutes, you know. Um, so the text messages started around 5:09. >> Yeah. And I had only eaten four ribs and then I was like, Ch like I'm like when I got to Ly's house, I only had time to talk to him a little bit for like 15 to 20 minutes and I ate like four ribs. >> Okay. So you got there, you think around 7:00, you say? >> Yeah. Like I feel like I had just got there, but I was going to leave because I knew Trey was tracking my phone. I cuz he had told me like >> her defense was that she couldn't have cheated. She was too busy eating. Four ribs to be exact. >> So, have you and your husband had had y'all been arguing about anything? Any other person? Tell me about that cuz uh we'll go back to what happened, >> but I'm just trying to kind of get a history of you and your husband and Lloyd. >> Oh, okay. >> And I'm trying to kind of get an understanding. Trey didn't know what >> that Lloyd existed. >> Okay. >> Until the Wild Ruff Parade in Athens. >> When was that? >> I think it was like a couple weeks ago. I had two mixed drinks and I have no tolerance for alcohol. So I But that is not the reason I lost my car. The reason I lost my car, like I couldn't figure out where my car was cuz when it was time to leave, which was like a long time, you know, like at the end of the night at like I don't know what time, like 3:00 a.m. I was like, "Okay, I drank like a billion things of water. I ate like enough time has passed like I can finally drive right. So I was looking for my car couldn't find it because I don't know Athens that well because Trey doesn't let me go out a lot. He is very against me going out. Doesn't trust me. And this is clearly one of the incidences. one of the incidents that have have led to him not trusting me. But >> according to Charlotte, Winford just didn't trust her and she didn't trust him to help her in emergencies. Her go-to person was always Lloyd. >> Once again, I put Lloyd in danger. I asked Lloyd because he was one of the only people who was still around. Everyone else had gone off with their boyfriend except for like a couple people that I didn't know that well. I asked her to give me a ride for my car and I remember Trey saying, "Don't go walking around like in front of the housing and stuff like in the middle of the night. You're putting yourself in danger, you know, because >> So Trey wasn't with you. >> No, >> you came to Athens. >> Yeah. >> You were drinking. You were hanging with Lloyd at the Wonder Bar. >> Yes. You you have a low tolerance. >> Okay. How did Trey know Lloyd that night? You said that was >> So Trey found on my phone. He said that well he saw my GPS dot was at Louis house for 2 hours which is ridiculous. >> So he was tracking you on your GPS that night. >> Yeah. While we was at work. >> Okay. >> And I thought he would be busier. SO >> OKAY. BUT MOSTLY I thought mostly I just wasn't thinking that much. I wasn't thinking through it I guess enough. >> Okay. Tell me what's happened. >> So what you're well so so Trey So the next day or maybe it was that night Trey is yelling at me like you were at some guy's house for two hours. I saw you on the GBS map or whatever he call he calls it the map. I guess he says the map and I'm like I was literally at Lloyd's house for literally 15 minutes. I have all my Uber stuff on there where you can see. I get to Lloyd's house. Lloyd played his violin for like 5 seconds to show me the newest song that he's been working on. And then I >> So you had an argument? >> Yeah. >> Was it in person or was it over the phone? >> Yeah. Trey and I argued in person, but he still met Lloyd. When I went home and he didn't know Lloyd at the time. He just knew you were somewhere for 2 hours. >> He never met Lloyd. >> Was there a physical altercation when you went home or was there just a bur confrontation? >> The trust between them had been crumbling for years and it showed. I mean, I have tried to be so good to try. I've tried to live within his rules and he scares me so bad because I know I know he's a good person, but he has some issues that he's struggling with and I've been trying to help him. You know, I've been trying to not piss him off. I I want to talk about the rules uh that you say he has. I want to talk about how he scares you so bad. and I wanted to talk about the issues you say that he's struggling with, but I kind of want to I kind of want to get some background, some general background first. Um, I want to talk about each time that you feel you felt threatened as well. Okay. That was the first time you talked about Okay. >> Have there been has there ever been any type of physical uh altercations? Okay. Uh, but there has been verbal confrontations. Okay. I guess I don't really feel like I mean. >> Okay. >> Not really. I don't know. I can't really remember anything. >> Okay. You said he scares you so bad. >> What do you mean he scares you so bad? >> It's just like his energy. Like just his actions. like I haven't felt like I just feel like he's always just really mad at me and like he doesn't respect me and like he's just like this close to just like stabbing and I don't know what he would do if if I mean I guess now I know. >> After several episodes where Charlotte disappeared or became disoriented while drinking, Winford insisted on knowing where she was at all times. So, they set up a tracking system, something that was supposed to help if she ever got lost again. That convenience ended up being the very thing that led Winford straight to Lloyd's house. >> He literally knew where I was. He was literally outside watching and burst down the door. Like, it updates every 30 seconds, which he was telling me like my GPS cuz he made me share. He didn't take me, but yeah, he requested that I share my location with him and then he shares his location with me >> just in general. >> Not tonight, but just in general. >> Yeah. And I almost turned off my location tonight. >> Mhm. >> And then I was like, "No, he's just going to get super mad at me later on." >> So why did you tell him you were going to get something to eat and he would be right back if you were going over to Ly's house? Yeah, cuz I was going to go in the loss for like 20 minutes, get some rest, and then leave. I was about to leave. Uh, I mean, it had only been like I don't even know how Trey got there that fast. Or maybe I lost track of time. >> But you knew that Trey would get upset if you knew if he knew that you were going to Lloyd's house. >> I thought I told her that I was going um to house. that I I I thought that I had told um that uh that I was going to Lloyd's house and and the AI people were going to come over cuz I assumed they would. I mean, Lloyd's cooking bread, you know. Uh so, I just I guess I wanted to believe that they would and that everything was normal and everything would be okay. like the last time that I went over to Louisy's house because uh you know everybody was there and it was just like this intellectual thing and it was so cool and and I wanted Trey to end up meeting my yoga people but only when he was acting right because there's just something off with him you know oh how did Trey find out about Lloyd how did he how did he how did he know about Lloyd Not just the address as to where you were, but how did you know about him? Did he know his name? >> Yeah, I told him his name after that while I see like I told his name or I told him that like he's connected with my people and you know he's just a friend that also explained to him the person how she were at. No, I told him I week ago, right? >> Yes. >> And when he was claiming that you've been here 2 hours, that's when you explained to him the world was. >> Yeah. And then I had only been there for 15 minutes. >> Okay. >> And then my lift driver came and got me. >> Okay. So, it's pretty cool with knowing that you had a friend, a platonic friend by the name of Lloyd. >> I >> two weeks ago. >> I No. No, he wasn't because he said that I uh he didn't want me like he didn't want me to go out anywhere where there would be guys. His rules were like no guys, no drinking, no something or other. I don't even remember. But I was like Trey literally this is the pro these are all the problems I'm having with the rules. The more control Winford tried to exert over Charlotte, the harder she pushed back until one night it all exploded. Ly just got caught in the toxicity of their marriage. >> Tell me what happened. Um once you got there and you had your ribs in your head. >> So So Lane kept asking me about training, you know. >> Yeah. I I kept looking out the window like always because I'm afraid that Trey is going to come up there and I'm afraid that he is going to kill me and whoever I'm with every time I Now what makes you think that though? I mean you said you have never had any physical altercations. You said that he hasn't met Lloyd. Uh you talked about the rules and that he scares you and that he's having some issues. >> Well, he has said before that he would kill himself and whoever if I ever cheated on him and that's what he thought was going on when he came over there. >> He said previously, how many times has he threatened to kill himself? >> I don't know. Maybe like three or four times. I don't know. But he's never threatened to kill you. And he's never threatened to kill anyone that you are associated with. Correct. >> I don't know. I don't think so. >> The threatening behavior wasn't normal for Winford, but even then, Charlotte was on edge earlier that night, almost as if she was doing something that she wasn't supposed to do. Lloyd might not have known the danger he was in, but Charlotte definitely had at least an ankling. I I was getting this feeling, you know, I was I was freaked out. I was like, >> what do you mean? >> I I kept looking out the window like this. >> Is that Chase car? Are those his headlights? Is he here? I know he's coming. >> Describe Describe the the house. Describe the driveway. Why were you looking out to see if anybody was outside? Were you nervous that he had followed you? Why were you nervous? >> I don't know. Because I felt >> that he called you. >> Trey had said that he wanted to meet my friends. Like he had said that he was going to plan a birthday thing where he would meet my friends >> tonight. >> Not tonight, but like in the future. >> Okay. What does that have to do with this though? Well, I felt like if he saw that I was at Lloyd's house, a I'm not supposed to be at a guy's house. >> And he already knew where he lived because of two weeks ago. >> Yeah. >> And I I swear I told him I was going to a lady's house because I >> Yeah. Because I thought he would understand that it was an AI thing, which you know, you told him you were going. You just didn't tell him that you were going to get something to eat and be right back. You told him you were going to Lord's house before you left. So, knowing that he didn't want you to go to Lord's house from your conversation with him two weeks ago, did he have anything to say about that about? >> I like uh I'll tell you about it or something. I don't know. >> Tell you about what? Just >> like I was going to tell him like, oh, all the all the AI people were there and we were talking cuz I was thinking it was going to be like that. Or maybe not. Maybe Lloyd was just gonna be there. >> And then what? Just tell me what happened. We'll go through what happened if we have any questions. >> So I was telling Trey about that was our last subject. >> You were telling Trey about >> I mean I was telling Lori about >> So you were talking to Lori about Joey. >> Uhhuh. So, that was my last story. And I had just gotten more ribs and I couldn't even finish my rib. And Lory's laying there on the floor and I'm and I was like uh saying something and then uh >> So L is on the floor. >> L's on the floor laying there. >> Just laying on his >> Yeah. With his feet up on the couch >> casually as one does. and I'm sitting here at his table sitting on a chair like eating my rib talking about stuff and then I you know once again I'm the instigator. I'm like I'm getting really scared like I'm really really scared. So I got on the floor and I curled up next to him in a ball. So then Lloyd got his arm around me and like uh he was kind of like laughing like I can't >> And why did you say you were really scared? >> Because I was getting really scared because I just kept getting all these feelings that Trey was out there. Trey was coming for me. Like why don't you just just leave? I WAS GOING to leave, but I just wanted I just wanted like one hug to like get me through cuz I knew I was going to get up by Trey and it was going to be a cold dark freaking next couple days and so I just wanted just a little bit of warmth. JUST JUST JUST A LITTLE HUG, you know, for like five minutes and then I was going to go. Well, then Lloyd's like, "Do you want to just like lay on the couch?" HOLD ON. NO IDEA. I'M LIKE, I guess Lloyd's maybe in pain or something. I'm like, okay, we'll lay here for like a second. And then and then I just stopped talking and I was like, I better not fall asleep. This is what happened last time. >> How long were y'all on the couch laying beside each other? Like >> we all holding EACH OTHER. >> NO, STRAIGHT UP a boy had his arms around me >> on the couch. >> On the couch. Fully girls never done anything like it's not like that. And um said, "Oh, I want cuddles, too." You know, like find cuddles, like whatever. Which I guess that's kind of borderline like we probably shouldn't have done that. I mean, obviously we shouldn't have done it. >> You had your clothes on, TOO? >> TOTALLY. HOLY GHOST. LIKE, I'm like, "Okay, so I'm just gonna get somewhere, you know, and then I'm going to go, you know, and I should have just gone right then." But all of a sudden, Lloyd heard something and he sat up and I started to sit up and the door comes open and Lloyd jumps up off of the couch. I jump up off of the couch and all of a sudden I see Trey and he's in his red sweatshirt and he's screaming uh at and at me and and then he uh >> all I remember is he started screaming you cheating. And I I kept saying he's a friend. He's a friend. It's not like that. And he was like, "You've been lying to me." And he said something like I think he said, "You hurt me at one point, but maybe that was outside when he said, "You hurt me so bad." I'm not sure. But he he was yelling at me about something. I don't know. I think that was what he was yelling at me about. Once I got up off of the couch and he was yelling at me somehow. I mean, I was trying to think where Lloyd was during all of this, but it's not really clear. >> Uh, I think Trey had shot Lloyd. >> So, he came in. >> Your husband Your husband screamed at you and you were cheating and >> Uhhuh. And and he said, "I saw you. I was looking through the window and I saw he had his arm around you and I was like, it was just a hug. He's just a friend. It's not like that. Uh, and >> Winford saw this moment, too. But his version would be very different. For now, though, Charlotte's story was already starting to fall apart. And I don't know if he kept if he had been if he was shoving Lloyd or something, but Lloyd was still over there by the couch, I think. But I could tell Lloyd was trying to get to the door. >> Okay. The front door. >> Uh-huh. Which was still open. And I was still trying to tell trying that was just a friend. And I was like pushing on him with my arm and and Trey got me on the other couch and he put his arms he put his hands around my neck and was screaming Gucci all this and I guess so I guess he had put his gun away to do this to me. >> Well, where was Tell me where the gun was when he pulled it out. At what point did he pull the gun out? I think he had pulled it out after he realized that I guess Lloyd was lingering right here. >> No, no, don't guess cuz you were there, >> right? >> You should you you're not on >> I was looking at Trey. >> Okay, that's fine. But you're you're not on any drugs. You're not on any type of medication that should alter your thinking. So, just like Detective Organ said, just don't be so rushed. It's easy when you're not under the influence and if you're telling the truth to go ABC to the Z bunch of wars. Just think about it. >> At this point, the detectives suspected Charlotte hadn't been sober during this so-called dinner. People don't just forget details when something this intense happens. >> I want you to try. >> Yeah. >> Because we're talking about this is very serious. You know, just kind of maybe stuff. You were the You were there. You and Lloyd were there, >> right? I was there. >> Okay. Uh, so was the door unlocked or do you know? Because doesn't lock his door. This time it was unlocked, but y'all were really afraid. You were really afraid because you're looking out, but the door is yet unlocked, >> right? >> You didn't You didn't lock the door. >> Well, it's not my house. I DON'T WANT TO WALK MYSELF in anywhere ever. >> Yeah, but you're afraid of your husband, you said, right? >> Yes. >> Okay. You didn't feel so afraid that you didn't LOCK THE DOOR. >> That's fine. No problem. >> No problem. >> Yeah. Because the last time I was at Rhode House, I had the same feelings and Trey didn't show up. >> But Trey didn't knock at the door. >> Okay. He just comes in. Now, do you remember he had if he had a gun? >> I mean, there was a noise at the door like he hit it. Did he ever uh physically touch Lloyd or anything? >> I think he shoved Lloyd. >> He shot Lloyd and he kept trying to shove me. >> Okay. >> Down next to Lloyd, like he was going to execute us both on the floor and then kill us. But I don't know. That's me speculating. >> But I were on the couch at the time when he came in. >> Mhm. Well, we were getting up out of the couch. >> Y'all were laying on the couch when he came. Right. >> Right. >> What do you mean getting up on the couch? >> When we tried opening, we were getting up. But yeah, when we originally Yeah, we were >> Yeah, we were on there >> and y'all were holding each other when he came in, right? >> Or no, >> no, we had already started. I mean, I guess I don't think his arms were still around me. Like, I think he heard him and was getting off of the couch. >> Okay. Okay. So, he's talking to you when he first comes in and he shoves Lloyd and then he takes you to the other sofa. He said that's on that's in the living area right there. >> Yeah. It's like right in front of that door >> and he puts his hands around your neck. >> Yeah. But it's weird because like every time he's ever done that other than like not in a threatening way, in a sex way, he will do it, you know, like hard. But >> so he wasn't doing it hard. >> He was doing it hard. >> Okay. >> Like almost like he wasn't going to do anything. Like he was just doing it to scare it. I guess I scared. Lloyd doing at the time. I feel like I think I saw Lloyd behind Trey at the time, but I would think I would hope Trey was I would hope Lloyd was trying to >> I just want to know what you saw. I just want to know what YOU SAW. I THOUGHT I saw or I saw Lloyd like here's Trey trying to pretend he's going to strangle me, screaming at me, but I mean he was legitimately upset, so I don't know why he wouldn't be strangling me at that point. But I FEEL LIKE, OKAY, I saw I don't know because it's like peripheral vision and I'm mostly focusing on like what am I going to do about this training in my face right now? Like I'm not sure if I was really focused on what Lloyd was doing. >> Okay, that's fair. >> But why else would you feel still be there? Yes, he was definitely there. >> And did he hit Trey or anything? Did he have a weapon in his hand or anything? Okay. So when Trey had his hands around your neck, did he have the gun in his hand at all? >> No, it must not have. >> Okay. So I guess Lloyd could have got the gun then too back was turned. But Lloyd's not like that. I don't think >> so. After he shoved Lloyd, I mean after he shoved Lloyd and he put his hands around your neck. >> I think he shoved Lloyd. Okay. That's not something I can fully say. I think he sheld him. I don't know. He definitely showed me a lot of times, but it wasn't it wasn't that much strength. So you believe Lloyd was still in the room >> and you I think he shoved Lloyd still in the room, >> but you know he shoved you. You know he put you on the other couch and had his hands around your neck, but he wasn't putting a lot of pressure on. >> Okay. And you said he kept shoving you. >> Yeah. He kept trying to shove me on the ground in front of the couch and I feel I'm not sure. I don't want to say like I keep saying like I feel like but >> I wasn't really focused on I kind of wasn't focused on Lloyd at all but I >> don't know why Trey would try to be shoving me down on the floor I kind of trouble babe >> after J had like his little fake strangling scene going on he had got up because I think he had seen that Lloyd escaping behind him now that he no longer had Lloyd distracted and worried about me or whatever, >> which is kind of flattering. Like Lloyd should have won. He should have been like, "F this girl. I don't even know her hardly and I don't care if she gets strangled AND HOW DARE SHE bring this guy." You know, like he even said before Trey came over, "Are you going to get me murdered? by your husband. He literally said that before we got on the couch. I forgot to say that. >> Charlotte seemed almost flattered that two men were fighting over her. But what she didn't know was the outcome. The detectives left the room to go over everything, leaving Charlotte alone with her phone. And while scrolling through Facebook, she stumbled onto the news herself. >> Oh my god. Hey, I'm Detect Johnson. I haven't spoken with you yet, but um I was over there. I was talking to um Detroit Trey and he wanted me to tell you to call Chrisa and Donnie and visit him. Come visit him. I guess those that >> I just found out that dude died. I just found out I don't know. It's not Did he die? >> Yeah, they they couldn't save him. I just saw it on Facebook that it said 38 minutes ago. >> What did it say? Or what what Facebook >> posted on his on Lloyd's face? >> Oh, really? >> Oh, yeah. I guess the doctors couldn't couldn't save him. >> How many times was he shot? >> That I don't know cuz I haven't I haven't been out of the hospital. But uh >> what am I going to do? I just can't believe this. I can't I don't know what to do. I don't want to do anything. Tra says, "I don't want to talk to any of these people. I don't care that I'm living in his house. He just killed the one person that understood me." >> Charlotte's phone had to be taken in as evidence, but at that point, she was too distraught to care. >> I just found out that >> Yeah, I was trying to minute before I came in here. I was scrambling around getting all this for you. >> He was in the O this whole time. Yeah, the last I heard before uh obviously, you know, for a long time we're in here going over everything and the last I heard was the hospital. But >> what am I going to do without Lloyd? >> Right now, don't worry about anything that you don't want to. You've already got enough on your mind. You want to go ahead and go to the bathroom? >> Yeah, I mean, Trey got his wish. I don't have anything now. Everybody who knows Lloyd is going to be like, "You let get killed." Well, it sounds that that's not really the way yoga people think. It sounds like you have a sympathetic group of friends who I mean, who knows? At least some of them are supportive and help me get through any of them though. >> So, close to the boys. He's the only reason I wanted to go anywhere, just to see him. THAT'S WHY I WILL PUT MYSELF IN DANGER just to see him because he just made me feel better about everything. And I knew I could see him for a little while. But I figured if I just just got this one hug from him and then I just left. But then he was like, I like just lay on the couch cuz I want cuddles. And if I had just left, maybe he would have got shot. Winford being a member of law enforcement himself already knew there was a chance Lloyd wouldn't survive his injuries. But his version of the marriage and what led to that night didn't sound anything like the picture of a controlling suffocating husband Charlotte had described. Well, I guess why don't we just go ahead and and kind of start from the beginning like what what happened today like the beginning of today or the beginning of all this. >> Yeah. Whatever you think is appropriate if you don't mind. I had told my lieutenant and I was actually able to get it out fairly quickly. >> Yeah. >> Um I met my wife in high school. >> Okay. And it was like threeish years before we finally talked to one another. Um, fast forward a while. Um, we had had kind of had problems because there was always somebody terrible in her life and I always tried to do my best to be there. And um, uh, there was somebody I had worked with at Publix that we all three went to high school. No three of us really knew each other, but somehow her and my wife, well, girlfriend at the time had gotten together. And um and um one night uh she didn't come home after hanging out with her. And it was after that she had told me um that they went to these guy's house and she sat on the couch and played video games all night. >> Yeah. Well, she started immediately acting weird to me after that day and she pretty much stopped hanging out with her friend about roughly a year later. I had gotten um she was acting weird to me. We got into a big fight where she said she wanted to leave me and I was at work and I started crying and uh they had to call the EAP because I I was upset. Yep. She's all I've ever had. She was going back to Georgia Southern to go to school and um I was actually looking for her a job and that's when I found out the PD down there was hiring and they were so desperate that their application system glitched and uh instead of me having to go through the 4-hour application, I literally typed my name, I wasn't a convicted felon, and signed to show that was my information. >> Yeah. >> I got a call back the next day. >> Wow. Yeah. Um, so I went through the application process. She was still acting really weird, really weird. Well, fast forward, I get hired, go through the academy, you're we're married. She's not part of this benefit. And we get in the car and she tells me and um she told me that she thought that she got taken advantage of uh at those guys house or apartment or whatever while she was playing video games. >> Okay. >> Everything didn't add up though because um I knew she was lying to me and I all I ever want is I don't care if it's good or bad. Just don't lie to me. That's why it's been really hard. And I know I don't think y'all are lying to me, but it's been really hard. I really hope he's okay. And I hope that y'all would tell me. >> Yeah. As soon as we know, as soon as we hear something, I'll definitely >> Winford suffered from extremely low self-esteem from the day he had met Charlotte. She was the opposite. Making friends came easy to her. She got along with just about anyone. Winford never outgrew his insecurities and over the years they festered until almost anything could set him off. >> I never thought anybody at the sheriff's office really liked me and um I still don't >> really I mean it sounds like they're you know I don't really know for sure. I just kind of glanced at the call but it sounded like they were kind of concerned about you. my lieutenant came out and he he was nice to me. But I know what it's going to be cuz I mean we've done it and I'm sure y'all have done it too. You talk to somebody, you kind of have a halfway hearttohe heart and then it's over. And I know I've done it before and I understand that and that's what I feel like it's happening with them too, but I never really felt part of the group with them. And I haven't had any friends. I've just been inside and um I've had trouble sleeping. I haven't really slept at all in like four nights. I got sick. Um but anyways, I'm working up here. I hate it. But um fast forward to now. I guess leading up to tonight, the weekend before Halloween, that's like the 25th or whatever. Um she um went out to hang out with her friends. >> Yeah. Well, we have the find my person, I guess. They just changed it to find my is what I think it says. >> Yeah, I think is that on the iPhone? >> Yeah. >> Yeah, I think I know what you're talking about. >> Well, we have always shared locations because she gets lost all the time. And a lot of the times she'll call me and say, "How do I get to home?" >> And I Yeah. She She'll tell me stuff like there's a palm tree. Well, that doesn't happen, right? >> So, I'll tell her to stop somewhere and I'll pull up her location and all that. Well, after the last the previous incident years ago, we kind of had I'm just going to say rules about if she went out. >> Yeah. >> Which we're supposed to be no drinking, no guys, you know, if things get weird, call me, >> right? >> I watched her and all night and all night and all night. Um she was out and then she the house tonight she was uh she ended up there and she told me later that she was only there 10 minutes but the GPS thing it was like 2 hours. >> Okay. >> She told you where she was going? >> No. >> This was the complete opposite of what Charlotte had claimed >> tonight. She said she was going out with some AI people is what she said. What is AI? I'm assuming artificial intelligence cuz she works at UG. >> Okay. >> And um but she said she was going to go get food. I actually looked at her location to see where she was going only because I've been sick today and I was hungry and if she was going somewhere I was going to discreet leaking something back. >> Right. >> And I saw she was there. >> She didn't tell you where she was going to get something to eat. She just said she was going to go meet the AI people and they were having dinner. >> I just feel so terrible. >> Well, you definitely got a lot going on. That's >> I should have done this tonight. >> Well, I think you did. >> I didn't mean to. Like, I will go ahead and say that there was no intention of me going there to do this. I ended up driving by because I felt bad and I wanted to see like are there a bunch of cars there? There wasn't. There was our car and one other car >> and I drove by like six or seven times and um I finally parked wherever my truck was. I don't exactly know what house it was in front of. And I was like, "This is wrong." but I I need to know for sure. >> She's never been straight with me and I need to know for sure. >> And so I locked my truck and um I walked up and there were some windows that were kind of open and all I was looking for was was there a table? Was there people around? You know, maybe one car picked up a bunch of people. Right. >> Where did you park? >> It was Pico or whatever that little side street is going to 129. Oh, you didn't park in a driveway? >> No. I I was afraid because if I was wrong, I didn't want her to see me and be mad. I didn't want to seem like I was jealous. I didn't want to be crazy, you know? I just I feel bad. And when I have nobody on my side, you know. So, she she blamed me, too, after the Halloween thing. She blamed me because she said, "Now, none of her friends want to see her." And it's my fault she has no friends. And um so I walked around, there were a couple windows. I didn't see anything. And then I saw on the front porch there was an open window. And then I see her laying on the couch and he's behind her and he's got his arms wrapped around her like they're sitting up. >> No, they're laying down. >> Okay. >> Were they closed? >> They were closed. Um, and I uh I opened the door and as soon as I opened the door, they both jumped up and the deer had like, "Look, >> yeah, >> it was locked or open." >> It was unlocked. And um I initially wanted to yell at both of them. And I looked them both in the eyes and then she said, "He's just a friend. He's just a friend." And I think I said something along the lines of you don't do that with friends, you know. >> Yeah. >> That's not just cool. >> Yeah. No, that's totally you're totally right on that. >> I had forgotten I had my gun on cuz I blocked my truck cuz I know y'all found all the guns in there. That >> was that your work service weapon or was it a personal? >> It was my personal weapon. Um, >> what kind was it? >> It's a Glock 19 third generation. These pants I usually keep sitting by the door. >> Yeah. And this is going to sound disgusting, but sometimes I just keep a pair of go pants that I can just throw on real quick. >> No, it makes sense. >> I keep the the gun and the holster on and um I've always done that because I've had people kick at the door. Weird crap happened outside and we don't have kids. So I >> Yeah, there's nothing wrong with that. That's >> And I put them on and I just I've carried that gun for so many years. I've had that gun for several years now. And um >> weird almost be weird if you didn't have, you know, I'd feel weird if you didn't have it. >> And um the guns you found in the truck were not for tonight. I've been um past three weeks I've been trying to work up to myself also. Um two of them were guns I thought about it with and the other ones I were ones that I enjoy shooting or wanted to shoot. A couple of them I hadn't even ironed yet and I figured before I went out I wanted to shoot them. >> Okay. So, I had some extra ammo for some of them like the AK and the AR pistol and but that's why I locked the truck cuz I >> Right. Well, you don't want >> I didn't want anybody to steal them, but I didn't want there to even be an inclination to go back to the truck, you know? >> Right. >> Um, but yeah, they looked at me and Charlotte started like saying stuff. I don't even remember what she said for whatever reason. I don't know why I didn't think I >> He just reacted and with the gun conveniently holstered on his hip, he started shooting. >> As dumb as it sounds, everything went in slow-mo at that moment and it felt like I had no control over any of it. Like I I was being forced to watch it, but I didn't. >> Yeah. Yeah. Imagine that. And I pulled the gun out and I pointed it at him. And uh >> where was he at the time? >> They were still, if you walk in the front door and the couch is off to the left, >> I had taken two or three steps in the front door. So they were still in front of the couch. >> They were getting up. >> Well, they had jumped under as soon as I I came in. >> And um then there was another couch with a violin on it. And Charlotte started yelling at me like I don't remember what she said but she was screaming and she started grabbing at me and I will say I pushed her but I was afraid the gun was going to go off cuz she was clawing all over me and I was scared. And then he bolted and >> I don't know I didn't even aim it. I was holding it out like that and I know two or three rounds. I don't I know two or three went off and um >> inside the house or outside >> inside the house. >> Mhm. >> He was running out the front door and and then it was immediate Oh my god. >> So when you were shooting Yeah. He was running away. >> Yeah. >> Okay. How many times did you shoot? >> Two to three times. >> Okay. >> Like I said, he was running. I didn't even aim. My arm was just kind of out. I So, you didn't uh have a physical confrontation with him at all? You didn't touch him or anything? >> I pulled the gun on him initially and then he took off. And when he when he started running, it scared me. And I I don't know. Like I said, it was still just that situation where I'm watching it happen, but I felt like I didn't have any like you're almost outside your body. That's I don't know how to explain it. like, you know, it's like obviously I know I'm a person. I I know what I'm doing and I should have control, but I couldn't physically I couldn't talk. I couldn't do anything on my own. And he ran out and I was like, "Oh my god." >> How far away were you when he was away and he was shooting? >> Maybe from here, me to you, maybe roughly >> um when he got to the door, it may have been another couple of feet. I'm not 100%. I was more towards the right by that point. Was he ever outside? >> No. Um the only shot that was fired while he was outside and I was outside, I didn't know where he was, but I shot the window out of my truck. >> Um and I did it because um I immediately felt bad. And as dumb as that sounds, that's why I called y'all. I immediately felt bad. I feel like I cannot believe that I did this and I my life is over. And because of his inability to process his own emotions, so is Lloyd's. Seeing his wife with another man was painful enough, but it was what Winford saw inside that house that truly sent him over the edge. >> I was still pacing all around and um I happened to walk by his bedroom and I looked in and um there's his bed and there's condoms and lube and all this stuff on the side like on >> or when you're in the house waiting for the But I wanted before I before I surrendered. >> Okay. And that's kind of it's hard to see. >> You don't just have that stuff. I mean, even if he's just masturbating, you don't have condoms. >> You don't just have them right there. I mean, you roll around in your bed, that stuff's going to get everywhere and it's going to hurt. >> Yeah. >> It was preparing. >> Yeah. >> And and I'm just so upset. And then I I went outside and I should have just shot myself and saw Jason and I don't know why I just felt like I couldn't do it in front of Jason. >> So Jason showed up on the scene. >> Jason ring the sheriff's home >> later. He the sheriff is not happy with me. I'm fired. Like he doesn't want to talk to me. I'm dead to him. Which I understand. >> Yeah. It's definitely a tough situation for for you and for him and for everybody. >> And then um I surrendered to him and I tried to talk with him, but he kind of had that he kind of had that half listening thing like I'm going to listen because I told you I would feel like everybody's done to me. I just want I want help. I wanted help. I just can't find it. >> He'll get help now, but it'll be behind bars. What should have been a difficult but survivable conversation, two adults confronting the problems in their marriage ended with a life taken and a family destroyed. We'll never know if Lloyd was actually planning anything more than cuddling on the couch as friends with Charlotte. He's no longer here to tell his side of the story. After nearly 3 years of pre-trial proceedings, Winfred Adams accepted a plea deal in March 2022. The agreement dropped the malice murder and home invasion charges, but held him fully responsible for killing Lloyd as he ran for the door. The judge sentenced him to life in prison with a possibility of parole after 30 years, plus a concurrent 10-year sentence for aggravated assault. 26-year-old Benjamin Lloyd Clover didn't know Winford Adams. Never met him, never threatened him. He was just a man who befriended the wrong woman.
